We study boundary control in critical time by elastic forces at two ends of an inhomogeneous rod consisting of two parts of distinct densities and elasticities for the case in which the wave propagation time over each of these parts is the same. We present a closed-form expression for the boundary control by elastic forces bringing the originally quiescent stick into a given terminal state specified by a given terminal displacement and a given terminal velocity in a given critical time.  相似文献

The gluing formula of the zeta-determinant of a Laplacian given by Burghelea, Friedlander and Kappeler contains an unknown constant. In this paper we compute this constant to complete the formula under an assumption that the product structure is given near the boundary. As applications of this result, we prove the adiabatic decomposition theorems of the zeta-determinant of a Laplacian with respect to the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions and of the analytic torsion with respect to the absolute and relative boundary conditions.

In this contribution the isolation of real roots and the computation of the topological degree in two dimensions are considered and their complexity is analyzed. In particular, we apply Stenger's degree computational method by splitting properly the boundary of the given region to obtain a sequence of subintervals along the boundary that forms a sufficient refinement. To this end, we properly approximate the function using univariate polynomials. Then we isolate each one of the zeros of these polynomials on the boundary of the given region in various subintervals so that these subintervals form a sufficiently refined boundary.  相似文献

Harmonic mappings from the Sierpinski gasket to the circle are described explicitly in terms of boundary values and topological data. In particular, all such mappings minimize energy within a given homotopy class. Explicit formulas are also given for the energy of the mapping and its normal derivatives at boundary points.

Gourlay & Morris (1970) presented a multistep formulationof a scheme proposed by Strang (1968) for the numerical solutionof non-linear hyperbolic systems. This formulation did not takeaccount of given boundary data and led to instability in certainproblems. We study the solvability of the mixed boundary value problem for the Laplace equation with three distinct boundary conditions, two of which include two directional derivatives with distinct tilt angles and the remaining one is the first boundary condition. An example of a nontrivial solution of the homogeneous problem is given, and conditions under which the problem has a unique solution are established. In this paper, the method of matching asymptotic expansions is used to construct an asymptotics (in a small parameter) of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator in a domain when the boundary-condition type changes on a narrow flattened strip, provided that on the narrow strip of the boundary a Neumann condition is given and on the remaining part of the boundary a Dirichlet condition is given. We consider the following controllability problem for the Navier-Stokes equations: ensure, by dynamically varying the boundary values of the total fluid head, that the solution at a given time has a given projection onto some finite-dimensional subspace. If a nonconstant solution u of the Helmholtz equation exists on a bounded domain with u satisfying overdetermined boundary conditions (u and its normal derivative both required to be constant on the boundary), then under certain assumptions the boundary of the domain is proved to be real-analytic. Under weaker assumptions, if a real-analytic portion of the boundary has a real-analytic extension, then that extension must also be part of the boundary. Also, an explicit formula for u is given and a condition (which does not involve u) is given for a bounded domain to have such a solution u defined on it. Both of these last results involve acoustic single- and double-layer potentials.  相似文献

A new method to construct C1 triangular patches which satisfy the given boundary curves and cross-boundary slopes is presented. The Boolean sum of an approximation operator and an interpolation operator is employed to construct the triangular patch. The approximation operator is used to construct a polynomial patch of degree six. The polynomial of degree six affords more freedoms, which makes the approximation operator not only approximate the given boundary interpolation conditions but also have a better approximation precision in the interior of the triangle, so that the triangular patch has a better precision on both the boundary and the interior of the triangular domain. The interpolation operator is utilized to build an interpolation patch which satisfies the given boundary conditions. The Boolean sum of the approximation and interpolation patches forms the triangular patch. Comparison results of the new method with other three methods are given.  相似文献

Under study are some problems of elasticity theory with nonclassical boundary value conditions. We assume that the load and displacement vectors are given on a part of the boundary, while on the other parts of the boundary, the load vector or the displacement vector may be given separately, and no conditions are imposed on the remaining part of the surface (of some nonzero measure).We consider the questions of uniqueness for the solutions to these problems. In [6], T. I. Vogel studied a free boundary problem originating in the galvanization process. He showed that if the given boundary Γ* is starlike or convex, then so is the free boundary solution Γ. Our purpose is to generalize Vogel's second result by showing (under certain assumptions) that Γ cannot have more (local) maxima or minima (relative to a given direction) than Γ*; also that Γ cannot have more inflection points or greater total curvature than Γ*. The author has already proven analogous results for the Bernoulli free boundary problem in [1], [2] and [3].  相似文献
