The study of fast response nematic liquid crystal display material mixture and synthesis about compounds has always been an important subject in recent years. In this article, one type of high birefringence liquid crystal based on phenyl-diacetylenes was synthesized by sonogashira coupling reaction. A research is conducted on the effect of electro-optic properties of a widely used nematic liquid crystal mixture doped with the prepared high birefringence liquid crystal molecule which concentrations ranging from 1% to 5 wt%. While the results show that the steepness of electro-optic curves first increase and then decrease with the prepared high birefringence liquid crystal molecule content increasing, when the content of high birefringence liquid crystal molecule reaches 3%, electro-optic properties of the mixture liquid crystals are excellent.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We present a new fabrication approach to achieve a high birefringence film by means of photopolymerization based on an alkylthio-containing rod-like liquid crystalline molecule exhibiting large temperature dependence of birefringence. We designed a new reactive mesogen having alkylthio linkages (BPM–S). It was found that BPM–S had a larger increment of birefringence with decreasing temperature, relative to commercially available alkoxy analog LC242. This result could be thought to be due to enhanced intermolecular attractive interaction for an alkylthio mesogen implied by the proximity of laterally neighboring molecules and cybotactic nematic tendency based on wide-angle X-ray measurement. The uniaxially-aligned photo-polymerized film for BPM–S showed higher birefringence than that for LC 242.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterisation are carried on liquid crystalline (LC) p-dodecyloxy benzoic acid (12OBA) with 1 and 2 wt% for PdCl2 nanoparticles dispersion. Further, characterizations are carried out by different spectroscopic techniques like X-ray diffraction spectrometric studies, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Textural determinations of the synthesised compounds are recorded by using polarising optical microscope (POM) attached with a hot stage and camera. The results show that the dispersion of PdCl2 nanoparticles in 12OBA exhibits Nematic phases as same as the pure 12OBA with reduced clearing temperature as expected. Further, the nematic thermal ranges are quenched and the smectic C thermal range has been increased while performing both DSC and POM with the dispersion of 1 wt% PdCl2 nanoparticles. Size dependence on bonding nature with LC compounds is established.  相似文献

In order to investigate the influence of the central linking group and effect on flexibility on mesophase behavior of liquid crystal we have synthesized newly homologous series viz. 3-(4-Octyloxyphenyl)-1-(4′-n-alkoxy phenyl) prop-2-en-1-one (Series-l) consists of thirteen homologues (C1 to C8, C10, C12, C14, C16, C18). Textures of a nematic phases are threaded or Schlieren type. The textures of smectic and nematic phase are directly judged from the heating and cooling condition. Group efficiency order for mesophases is derived on the basis of thermal stabilities from the comparative study of thermometric data determined from structurally analogous series. A transition curve as depicted in a phase diagram behaves in normal manner. Structural and conformational characterization of these new compounds had achieved by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR, and elemental analysis.  相似文献

In this work, we explore the refractive index of the phasmidic columnar liquid crystal for homeotropic oriented samples (column perpendicular to the plates). To measure the ordinary index no of the columnar liquid crystal C10, a simple and accurate method is presented using the deflection by reflection of a laser beam (λ = 633nm) through a prismatic phasmidic thin film placed between two glass plates in the homeotropic orientation. For the C10 samples, we found no = 1.5512 ± 0.0002 at T = 100°C. We used the same method to determine the isotropic index nl of the isotropic phase and found nl = 1.5301 ± 0.0002 at T = 120°C. Using the precision of the same method in polychromatic laser beam, we measured the variation of the ordinary index with the wavelength λ and characterize the dispersion by the known Cauchy's dispersion relationship no = A + B/λ2. We deduce an estimation of the birefringence for several samples.  相似文献

Four liquid crystal compounds of the form 2-sec-butyl-4-[(4-X-phenyl) diazenyl) phenyl-4-(octadecyloxy] benzoate symbolized as I18a, I18b, I18c, and I18d were prepared in which the substituent (X) was taken CH3O-, CH3-, Br-, and -NO2, respectively. Characterization of prepared compounds is done using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Their mesophase was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Their antioxidant efficiency for Egyptian lubricating base oil was tested via monitoring the oxidation reaction through the change in total acid number. The obtained results showed that the efficiency of these compounds was ranked as follows I18d > I18c > I18b > I18a.  相似文献

Two novel gallic trimer 7 and tetramer 8 based on acylhydrazone structures were designed and synthesized in yields 76% and 81%, respectively. Their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, ESI-MS, and elemental analysis. Their mesomorphic properties were investigated by DSC, POM, and XRD analyses. The mesomorphic results suggested that they possessed good room-temperature columnar liquid crystalline property with wide range of mesomorphic temperature. The ranges of mesomorphic temperatures for compounds 7 and 8 were as wide as 115°C and 124°C, respectively.  相似文献

Refractive index studies are carried out on two highly polar liquid crystals: 1. N-(p-n-methoxy benzylidene)-p-amino benzonitrile, PmBAB, 2. N-(p-n-ethoxy benzylidene)-p-amino benzonitrile, PeBAB. The experimental investigations are carried out in the visible region at four different wavelengths, namely, 633, 589, 546 and 436 nm. The two compounds exhibit only the nematic liquid crystalline phase in between the isotropic and crystalline solid. The dispersive power ω is estimated for two consecutive wavelengths for the case of <n>, ne and no for different wavelengths and found to be constant with temperature. Further the temperature gradients of ne and no are estimated, and the crossover temperature is obtained using dno/dT for all the wavelengths.  相似文献

In this study, the synthesis, structural characterization and mesomorphic properties of newly thirteen calamitic shaped compounds derived from allylidene amino chalcone and 4-n-alkoxy benzoyloxy benzoic acid. Comp.H1 to H3 exhibited nonliquid crystalline nature, while comp.H4 to comp.H18 displayed enantiotropical smectic C phase. Phase transition temperatures of present synthesised compounds were determined by optical polarising microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) techniques. Thermal stabilities of smectic to isotropic phase are 150.0 °C and temperature range of mesophase is in decreasing order from comp.H3 to comp.H18 respectively. The presences of SmC phase are the type of broken fan and needle type in present synthesized series. It is also shown that presence of chalcone amino allylidene central linking group favors a calamitic liquid crystalline behaviour in molecules with lower member to higher member aliphatic side chain in alkoxy group (-OR).  相似文献

The 6CB/8CB/8OCB liquid crystal mixture has been studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), polarised optic microscopy (POM), Semiconductor Characterization System, and Ultra-violet spectrophotometry (UV). DSC and POM results indicate that the 6CB/8CB/8OCB mixture exhibits liquid crystalline properties. The capacitance-voltage and conductance-voltage measurements were performed in the frequency range of 200-500 kHz and in the temperature range of 30oC–50oC. The 6CB/8CB/8OCB mixture showed an extremely large positive dielectric anisotropy. The molar absorptivity ? for the 6CB/8CB/8OCB mixture was calculated and found to be higher than the absorptivity values of the binary mixtures due to the alkyl chain length with H-aggregation.  相似文献

Effect of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) in ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) geometry has been studied for low and high concentrations of dopant. The results are compared with the characteristics of pure FLC system. An appreciable change in dielectric permittivity, relaxation behavior and other vital parameters has been observed for SWCNT doped FLC system, which shows the adaptability of carbon nanotubes with that of pure FLC molecule. Under high electric field, highly concentrated SWCNT doped FLC shows enormously large values of dielectric loss. This is due to the high conductivity of SWCNT at higher electric field. Interestingly, such effect is not much prominent for the low concentration of the SWCNT doped FLC system.  相似文献

We synthesized 102 new 1,4-bis-[4-subst.-benzoyloxy]-2-n-alkylbenzenes of the general formula with R = alkyl, alkyloxy, alkanoyloxy, alkyloxycarbonyloxy and n = 0 to 16. Surprisingly all of the new compounds are liquid crystalline nematic. Thus it is proved that lateral long chain substituents are compatible with liquid crystalline properties.  相似文献

Hexagonal titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) crystals were prepared by vacuum sintering of Ti, Si, and C powders at 1300 °C. The microstructure and grain deformations of Ti3SiC2 were examined by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The tribological properties of hexagonal Ti3SiC2 crystals as lubrication additive in HVI500 base oil were investigated by a UMT‐2 ball‐on‐plate friction and wear tester. The Ti3SiC2 additives exhibited good friction reduction. Under determinate conditions, the friction coefficient of base oil containing Ti3SiC2 crystals is lower than that of pure base oil. A hydrogen bonded complex molded between p-n-octylbenzoicacid (8BA) and m-fluorobenzoic acid (FBA) is isolated and doped with predetermined quantity of Multi Walled Carbon Nano Tube (MWCNT) in order to achieve better thermal and electrical performance. The obtained series of liquid crystal nano systems comprising of three mesogens, varying in the weight percentage of MWCNT are analyzed by Polarizing Optical Microscope (POM), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy. Different aspects of the MWCNT – liquid crystal combination, evaluation of MWCNT's effect on selected properties of liquid crystals which are relevant to display related applications are discussed. In addition, Frederik's transitions of MWCNT dispersed liquid crystals reveal the direct effect of bundles of MWCNT on liquid crystal reorientation.  相似文献

In this paper a novel lateral block size characterization method based on X‐ray diffractometry (XRD) is presented. The developed method based on scans of plans perpendicular to the surface visible from the edge of the sample and subconsequent numerical analysis based on Scherrer equation. In presented investigations as a reference sample bulk GaN substrate fabricated by AMMONO Ltd. was used. The GaN layers deposited on sapphire substrate were investigated as a case of study. Moreover, a method of analyzing the magnitude of the tilt and twist mosaicity based on the scans of rocking curves and reciprocal lattice maps (RLM) from the edge of sample is presented. As an example for this methodology highly mosaicited SiC crystal was used. Presented approach allows to directly determine the value of the angular deviation of mosaicity in a direction perpendicular and parallel to the sample surface.  相似文献

Alkoxy/halostyrylbenzoic acids were synthesized and evaluated for their mesomorphic and photophysical properties. The trans geometry of the molecules was established by the presence of large coupling constants in 1H-NMR spectra and confirmed further by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of two of the compounds. The straight-chain acids were found fairly stable showing first sign of decomposition above 290°C. The enantiotropic mesophases could only be studied in acids with seven or more methylene groups in the alkoxy chain. Textures of nematic and smectic phases were exhibited by these acids under polarizing optical microscope. Photophysical behavior of the compounds in solution was also investigated.  相似文献

Laminated Ti3SiC2 crystals are prepared of Ti, Si, C and Al powders by the method of hot isostatic pressing with NaCl additive in argon at 1350 °C. The laminated morphology of Ti3SiC2 is presented through the SEM and TEM observations. The results of high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns combined, it can be seen that the layers are of Ti3SiC2 crystals. The growth mechanism of Ti3SiC2 crystals, controlled by two‐dimensional nucleation, is also explained. The tribological properties of Ti3SiC2 crystals as additives in HVI500 base oil are investigated by a UMT‐2 ball‐on‐plate friction and wear tester. The study shows that under determinate conditions, the friction coefficient of the base oil containing Ti3SiC2 crystals is lower than that of pure base oil, and it decreases with the increase of mass percent of Ti3SiC2 nanolayers when its proportion is lower than 5wt. %.
