The paper deals with the theoretical investigation of nonlinear surface polaritons (NSP) in isolated two-dimensional electron system (2DES) arranged at the interface between linear and nonlinear media and placed into the external quantizing magnetic field directed perpendicularly to 2DES. We consider that nonlinear medium dielectric permeability depends upon the tangential component of electric field only. It is shown that under the integer quantum Hall effect conditions all NSP characteristics are represented by the quantized values. It is found that the NSP spectrum contains two NSP modes - high-frequency and low-frequency ones. It is shown that the NSP can exist only in the case where the value of tangential component of electric field at the interface is less than a certain critical value. It is found that the resonant interaction between the NSP high-frequency mode and surface polariton mode occurs in the vicinity of the cyclotron resonance subharmonic. We construct a supersymmetric field theory for the problem of a two-dimensional electron gas in a random, static magnetic field. We find a new term in the free energy in addition to those present in the conventional unitary sigma model, whose presence relies on the long-range nature of the disorder correlations. Under a perturbative renormalization group analysis of the free energy, the new term contributes to the scaling function at one-loop order and leads to antilocalization.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate light scattering by electrons of a 2D system in a strong magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the system (the filling factor is smaller than two, i.e., only the states of the zeroth Landau level are filled). Analysis is carried out in the resonance approximation, in which the frequencies of the incident and scattered light are close to the effective separation between the conduction band and one of the branches of the valence band of the semiconductor. Spin splitting of the Landau level in the conduction band associated with Zeeman and the spin-orbit interactions is taken into account. The dynamic screening effects are considered in the random phase approximation (RPA).  相似文献

According to recent photoconductivity measurements in 2D electron semiconductor systems in magnetic fields normal to the 2D plane, the photoconductivity as a function of magnetic field exhibits oscillations in the region of fields much weaker than those necessary for the observation of the Shubnikov-de Haas effect. In this paper, the aforementioned oscillations are interpreted as a two-dimensional analogue of magnetophoton (phonon) oscillations studied in detail by different authors on 3D samples.  相似文献

The magnetic field of complete spin polarization is calculated in a disorderless single-valley strongly-interacting 2D electron system. In the metallic region above the Wigner-Mott transition, nonequilibrium spin states are predicted, which should give rise to hysteresis in the magnetization.  相似文献

We show that the smectic layer orientation in side-chain liquid-crystalline polymers depends on the molecular weight and the shear rate. Parallel orientation is obtained with the low molecular weight polymer and reveals a shear induced decrease of the smectic layer thickness. In contrast with usual liquid crystals, the shear torque acts at the mesogen scale through an efficient coupling between the polymer main chain and the mesogens resulting in a smectic- A-smectic- C transition.  相似文献

The Wigner function of a two-dimensional electron gas in an arbitrary magnetic field perpendicular to the plane in which the electrons are confined is constructed rigorously. The function is useful in taking various statistical averages and illuminates the roles played by the hyperbolic functions of the field which appear in the expressions of the susceptibility and other physical quantities.  相似文献

An approximate analytic solution is constructed for the 2D space-charge-limited emission by a cathode surrounded by nonemitting conducting ledges of width Lambda. An essentially exact solution (via conformal mapping) of the electrostatic problem in vacuum is matched to the solution of a linearized problem in the space charge region whose boundaries are sharp due to the presence of a strong magnetic field. The current density growth in a narrow interval near the edges of the cathode depends strongly on Lambda. We obtain an empirical formula for the total current as a function of Lambda which extends to more general cathode geometries.  相似文献

We have studied negative magnetoresistance due to the weak localization effects in a 2D electron gas (2DEG) grown on dimpled substrates. Since the 2DEG is sensitive only to the normal component of B, depending on the orientation of the external magnetic field, electrons will move in a spatially inhomogeneous (B perpendicular to the substrate-B) or sign alternating, random magnetic field (B parallel to the substrate B). A difference in the magnetoresistance at B and B is seen for the sample with a coherence length larger than the spatial periodicity of magnetic field. We believe that the difference in the magnetic flux through the closed electron trajectories at B and B, taken into account random character of B, is responsible for this behaviour. Features connected with Aharonov Bohm flux through the different areas on the dimpled surface were observed.  相似文献

Under an external magnetic field, new branches of spin- and charge-density waves have been studied in a quasi-two-dimensional electron system whose ground state has more than one Landau level occupied by electrons. These collective excitations can be treated as manifestations of the multicomponent nature of the electron system in magnetic field, whereas the occupied Landau levels should be associated with degrees of freedom.  相似文献

The 2D semimetal consisting of heavy holes and light electrons is studied. The consideration is based on the assumption that electrons are quantized by magnetic field while holes remain classical. We assume also that the interaction between components is weak and the conversion between components is absent. The kinetic equation for holes colliding with quantized electrons is utilized. It has been stated that the inter-component friction and corresponding correction to the dissipative conductivity σ xx do not vanish at zero temperature due to degeneracy of the Landau levels. This correction arises when the Fermi level crosses the Landau level. The statement will keep in force until the degeneracy remains. The limits of kinetic equation applicability were found. We also study the situation of kinetic memory when particles repeatedly return to their meeting points.  相似文献
