In this work, we investigate the angular dependence of transmission and reflection in the single-negative (SNG) materials.
We consider a model structure of a SNG bilayer which consists of the epsilon-negative (ENG) and mu-negative (MNG) layers.
The wave transmission and reflection properties due to the losses from the ENG and MNG materials are specifically investigated.
With the presence of losses in the ENG and MNG materials, some unusual wave properties will be explored and numerically demonstrated. 相似文献

The properties of the wave transmission in the lossy single-negative (SNG) metamaterials
are experimentally investigated. The model structure of lossy epsilon-negative (ENG)
monolayer and SNG bilayer consisting of a lossy ENG material and a mu-negative (MNG) are
considered in this work. Simulation and experimental results show that the transmittance
of the lossy SNG materials can be enhanced by two approaches, increasing dissipation
coefficient and increasing the thickness of the lossy SNG. The lossy ENG material is
physically fabricated by using composite right- and left-handed transmission lines grafted
with radiation unit cell. The experimental results are in very good agreement with the
previous theoretical analysis. 相似文献

We study the trapping properties of transverse magnetic (TM) waves in single-negative metamaterial waveguides including epsilon-negative (ENG) metamaterial and mu-negative (MNG) metamaterial. The relationship between effective refractive index and reduced core width is analyzed when the permittivities of ENG and MNG metamaterials are different, and the inflection on this curve can be regarded as the trapping point. Simulation results show that the properties in an ENG–MNG–ENG metamaterial waveguide are contrary to that in a MNG–ENG–MNG metamaterial waveguide. The sensitivity of trapping point to the change of permittivity makes the single-negative metamaterial waveguides to be an effective method to detect the permittivity variation and can be used as a new kind of waveguide sensor. 相似文献

A type of photonic multiple quantum well (PMQWs) structure made of two different photonic crystals (PCs) with two kinds of single-negative materials is investigated. It is demonstrated by transfer matrix method that omnidirectional resonance modes are generated. The number of the resonance modes can be controlled by adjusting the periodic structure of the constituents. The resonance tunneling modes are weak dependence on incident angle and the scaling of the barrier photonic crystals. When the losses are taken into account, the effects of the losses coming from ENG media and MNG media on the resonance modes are striking difference. 相似文献

Negative-index refraction is demonstrated in a lamellar composite with
epsilon-negative (ENG) and mu-negative (MNG) materials stacked alternatively. Based
on the effective medium approximation, simultaneously negative effective
permittivity and permeability of such a lamellar composite are obtained
theoretically and further proven by full-wave simulations. Consequently, the
renowned left-handed metamaterial comprising split ring resonators and wires is
interpreted as an analogy of such ENG--MNG layers. In addition, beyond the
effective medium approximation, the propagating field squeezed near the ENG/MNG
interface is demonstrated to be left-handed surface waves with backward phase

We present a theoretical and experimental investigation into the energy transport in a conjugate matched bilayer consisting of ε-negative (ENG) and μ-negative (MNG) slabs. It is proved that the conjugated matched ENG/MNG bilayer is a subwavelength open-cavity resonator, in which the resonance frequency is determined by the complete tunneling condition, and the Q factor increases exponentially with the slab thickness. It is revealed that the wave is not evanescent inside the bilayer, but it is a hybrid of a traveling wave and a reactive standing wave. It is also manifested during the transient wave propagation that the reactive field energy stored inside the bilayer is provided by the incident wave. 相似文献

Electromagnetic scattering of an incident uniform plane wave from a perfect electromagnetic conductor (PEMC) circular cylinder, coated with a metamaterial is investigated theoretically. In the analysis the coating layer may be double-positive (DPS), double-negative (DNG), epsilon-negative (ENG) or mu-negative (MNG). It is assumed that both PEMC cylinder and the coating layer are infinite along the cylinder axis. Both parallel and perpendicular polarization cases are considered for the analysis. Comparison between the monostatic and bistatic echo widths, of a PEMC cylinder coated with metamaterial and coated with ordinary dielectric material (DPS), is presented. The numerical results are compared with the published literature, and comparison is found to be in good agreement. 相似文献

The transmission properties of one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystals containing two kinds of single-negative (ENG and MNG) material are investigated theoretically. A type of photonic gap with zero effective phases (zero-φeff) and the effects of absorption on the properties of the zero-φeff gap were shown. Specifically, it is demonstrated that strong absorption creates photon states inside the gap and this makes the band gap to be of zero width. 相似文献

We present a theoretical investigation into the energy transport and transient wave propagation in metamaterial tunneling structures consisting of ??-negative (ENG) and ??-negative (MNG) materials. It is proved that a conjugated matched ENG/MNG bilayer and a (zero-index-material doped) photonic crystal heterostructure can work as a sub-wavelength resonator at tunneling frequency. The tunneling modes need a certain time to achieve the steady state and the charge up characteristic time increases (nearly) exponentially with the thickness of the structures. Under the steady state, the wave in the single-negative-material structures is not evanescent, but a hybrid of a traveling wave and a reactive standing wave. The phase difference between the electric field and the magnetic field varies with the position and time. The investigation of transient wave propagation in the metamaterial tunneling structures will help us to understand the interaction process between wave and metamaterial and to design special functional apparatus. 相似文献

通过传输矩阵法,理论研究了损耗型单负材料双层结构在不同入射角时的反射率和偏振度。结果表明,损耗型单负材料双层结构不同于常规介电材料,随着入射角的增大,p分量反射率比s分量的反射率大。随着损耗(电损耗和磁损耗)的增大,p波的反射率和s波的反射率差异减小,直到重合,偏振度变为0。对于损耗型单负材料双层结构,当MNG层厚度增大时,偏振度变化幅度减小;而当ENG层厚度增大时,偏振度变化幅度增大。 相似文献

The interaction of optical vortices (or phase singularities, or screw dislocations) with ordinary matter is treated with a simple approach. Using the total internal reflection phenomenon and the superposition of four plane waves incident on a material with a refractive index lower than the original propagating medium, we are able to show the birth and annihilation of optical vortices in an evanescent field with curved topological features. Until now, this phenomenon has been explored only in free space propagation. By a suitable tuning process involving the incident angles and the amplitudes of the incident plane waves, it is possible to create unusual topological features of optical vortices in the vicinity of the material. We believe that this work can open new aspects of curved optical vortex manipulation in near-field optics. 相似文献

On the basis of the theory of coupled waves the amplitudes of the first-order diffracted waves and the diffraction efficiency is calculated for sequentially superposed phase gratings stored in dielectric reflection holograms. The investigations are restricted to the case of a fixed reference wave during recording and Bragg-angle incidence.By analogy to the transmission volume grating the coupling effects which appear between incident beams and diffracted waves give the possibility of building up beam-couplers and -splitters with certain coupling parameters determined by the recording process. Moreover, reflection gratings allow a favourable combination between coupling and reflecting properties and avoid the diffraction efficiency oscillations that are characteristic of transmission gratings. The performance of the reconstruction process with several waves simultaneously allows the tuning of the intensities of diffracted waves with dependence on amplitude or phase differences between incident beams. 相似文献

The paper numerically studies the harmonic Rayleigh wave scattering at the 90-degree corner of isotropic substrate. The finite element method is used. The main attention is paid to two cases. The first one is the apex of the substrate corner is rounded off. The second one consists in that a layer of foreign material is deposited on the face which scatters the Rayleigh wave. The dependence of the reflection and the transmission coefficients on the Poisson ratio, the angle of incidence, the fillet radius, and the layer thickness are obtained. It is found that if the Rayleigh wave is incident perpendicularly to the substrate border, then the fillet of small radius as compared to the wavelength increases the reflection coefficient and decreases the transmission coefficient by factors 1.3–1.8. At normal incidence, the Poisson ratio does not change qualitatively the dependence of the reflection and transmission coefficients on the fillet radius. But the Poisson ratio can substantially affect the angle dependence of these coefficients if the wave is incident obliquely on the corner rounded off. It is also found out that a layer can modify the conditions of scattering such that the incident wave is totally reflected without transmission and conversion into bulk waves in a wide interval of angle of incidence, although, in principle, the bulk wave generation is allowed within a part of this angle interval. 相似文献

A simple reflection and transmission theory of plane waves at the interface of pyroelectric media is studied in this paper. In an infinite homogeneous pyroelectric medium, there are four bulk wave modes: quasi-longitudinal (QL), two quasi-transversal (QT) and one temperature (T) waves, whose velocities depend on the frequency and incident angle. Simultaneously, a quasi-surface (QS) wave on each side of the interface of pyroelectric bi-materials will appear in the general reflection and transmission problem. The quasi-surface wave has the same wave vector component with the incident waves along the interface plane. So, the reflection and transmission problem is different with the propagation wave in the infinite homogeneous space, but it is still solvable. In the reflection and transmission problem, there are ten complex continuous conditions on the interface, which are satisfied by the bulk and quasi-surface waves together. Numerical calculations are performed for bi-material PZT-6B/BaTiO3. Incidences of the quasi-longitudinal and quasi-transversal waves from the side of PZT-6B or BaTiO3 medium are discussed. The reflection and transmission amplitude coefficients and energy flow ratios varying with the incident angle are examined. 相似文献
