The quantification of quantum correlations (other than entanglement) usually entails labored numerical optimization procedures also demanding quantum state tomographic methods. Thus it is interesting to have a laboratory friendly witness for the nature of correlations. In this Letter we report a direct experimental implementation of such a witness in a room temperature nuclear magnetic resonance system. In our experiment the nature of correlations is revealed by performing only few local magnetization measurements. We also compared the witness results with those for the symmetric quantum discord and we obtained a fairly good agreement.  相似文献

We introduce a measure Q of bipartite quantum correlations for arbitrary two-qubit states, expressed as a state-independent function of the density matrix elements. The amount of quantum correlations can be quantified experimentally by measuring the expectation value of a small set of observables on up to four copies of the state, without the need for a full tomography. We extend the measure to 2×d systems, providing its explicit form in terms of observables and applying it to the relevant class of multiqubit states employed in the deterministic quantum computation with one quantum bit model. The number of required measurements to determine Q in our scheme does not increase with d. Our results provide an experimentally friendly framework to estimate quantitatively the degree of general quantum correlations in composite systems.  相似文献

Uncertainty relations based on information theory for both discrete and continuous distribution functions are briefly reviewed. We extend these results to account for (differential) Rényi entropy and its related entropy power. This allows us to find a new class of information-theoretic uncertainty relations (ITURs). The potency of such uncertainty relations in quantum mechanics is illustrated with a simple two-energy-level model where they outperform both the usual Robertson–Schrödinger uncertainty relation and Shannon entropy based uncertainty relation. In the continuous case the ensuing entropy power uncertainty relations are discussed in the context of heavy tailed wave functions and Schrödinger cat states. Again, improvement over both the Robertson–Schrödinger uncertainty principle and Shannon ITUR is demonstrated in these cases. Further salient issues such as the proof of a generalized entropy power inequality and a geometric picture of information-theoretic uncertainty relations are also discussed.  相似文献

A state of a quantum system can be regarded as classical (quantum) with respect to measurements of a set of canonical observables if and only if there exists (does not exist) a well defined, positive phase-space distribution, the so called Glauber-Sudarshan P representation. We derive a family of classicality criteria that requires that the averages of positive functions calculated using P representation must be positive. For polynomial functions, these criteria are related to Hilbert's 17th problem, and have physical meaning of generalized squeezing conditions; alternatively, they may be interpreted as nonclassicality witnesses. We show that every generic nonclassical state can be detected by a polynomial that is a sum-of-squares of other polynomials. We introduce a very natural hierarchy of states regarding their degree of quantumness, which we relate to the minimal degree of a sum-of-squares polynomial that detects them.  相似文献

Entropy and information provide natural measures of correlation among elements in a network. We construct here the information theoretic analog of connected correlation functions: irreducible N-point correlation is measured by a decrease in entropy for the joint distribution of N variables relative to the maximum entropy allowed by all the observed N-1 variable distributions. We calculate the "connected information" terms for several examples and show that it also enables the decomposition of the information that is carried by a population of elements about an outside source.  相似文献

The exponential speedup achieved in certain quantum algorithms based on mixed states with negligible entanglement has renewed the interest on alternative measures of quantum correlations. Here we discuss a general measure of quantum correlations for composite systems based on generalized entropic functions, defined as the minimum information loss due to a local measurement. For pure states, the present measure becomes an entanglement entropy, i.e., it reduces to the generalized entropy of the reduced state. However, for mixed states it can be nonzero in separable states, vanishing just for states diagonal in a general product basis, like the quantum discord. Quadratic measures of quantum correlations can be derived as particular cases of the present formalism. The minimum information loss due to a joint local measurement is also considered. The evaluation of these measures in a simple yet relevant case is also discussed.  相似文献

The quantification of the quantumness of a quantum ensemble has theoretical and practical significance in quantum information theory. We propose herein a class of measures of the quantumness of quantum ensembles using the unitary similarity invariant norms of the commutators of the constituent density operators of an ensemble. Rigorous proof shows that they share desirable properties for a measure of quantumness, such as positivity, unitary invariance, concavity under probabilistic union, convexity under state decomposition, decreasing under coarse graining, and increasing under fine graining. Several specific examples illustrate the applications of these measures of quantumness in studying quantum information.  相似文献

I introduce an algorithm to detect one-way quantum information between two interacting quantum systems, i.e. the direction and orientation of the information transfer in arbitrary quantum dynamics. I then build an information-theoretic quantifier of one-way information which satisfies a set of desirable axioms. In particular, it correctly evaluates whether correlation implies one-way quantum information, and when the latter is transferred between uncorrelated systems. In the classical scenario, the quantity measures information transfer between random variables. I also generalize the method to identify and rank concurrent sources of quantum information flow in many-body dynamics, enabling to reconstruct causal patterns in complex networks.  相似文献

Perturbation method based on the group theory is developed for the radial solution of the Schrödinger equation with screened Coulomb potential. It may be treated as an alternative to the analytic perturbation theory proposed recently by McEnnan, Kissel, and Pratt (Phys. Rev. A, 2 (1976), 532) and is based on the expansion of the potential of the following form V(r) = ?(ar) × (1 + λV1r + λ2V2r2 + …). Corrections to the point-Coulomb energy levels are given as series in λ and also the screened Coulomb eigenstates are given in the form of expansions in powers of λ. The method is applied also to the continuous spectrum and similar expansions are found. The problem of the normalization of both discrete and continuous spectrum eigenstates is discussed and we find some differences in the case of the scattering states. Can quantum-information theory shed light on black-hole evaporation? By entangling the in-fallen matter with an external system we show that the black-hole information paradox becomes more severe, even for cosmologically sized black holes. We rule out the possibility that the information about the in-fallen matter might hide in correlations between the Hawking radiation and the internal states of the black hole. As a consequence, either unitarity or Hawking's semiclassical predictions must break down. Any resolution of the black-hole information crisis must elucidate one of these possibilities.  相似文献

The capacity of QED is demonstrated in explaining atomic collision phenomena in Coulomb gauge and depending on energy, in relativistic Lorentz gauge. The new approach to string scattering proposed by the authors is generalized to include multi-loop contributions. As an example, the planar one-loop contribution, including its integration measure, to the open bosonic stringS-matrix is computed. Unconditionally secure nonrelativistic bit commitment is known to be impossible in both the classical and the quantum world. However, when committing to a string of n bits at once, how far can we stretch the quantum limits? In this Letter, we introduce a framework of quantum schemes where Alice commits a string of n bits to Bob, in such a way that she can only cheat on a bits and Bob can learn at most b bits of information before the reveal phase. Our results are twofold: we show by an explicit construction that in the traditional approach, where the reveal and guess probabilities form the security criteria, no good schemes can exist: a + b is at least n. If, however, we use a more liberal criterion of security, the accessible information, we construct schemes where a = 4log2(n) + O(1) and b = 4, which is impossible classically. Our findings significantly extend known no-go results for quantum bit commitment.  相似文献
