In this paper we first give the value of a periodic continued fraction which was recorded incorrectly by Ramanujan on page 341 of his lost notebook. Next, we describe several pairs of equivalent continued fractions in which one is the odd part of the other. One of the results is for the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction which was recently proved by Berndt and Yee. Finally, using the Bauer-Muir transformation we prove the equivalence of two continued fractions. One was recorded on page 44 in Ramanujan’s lost notebook, and the other is found in the unorganized pages at the end of Ramanujan’s second notebook.This work was supported by Yonsei University Research Fund of 2003.  相似文献

 This paper describes the cutting sequences of geodesic flow on the modular surface with respect to the standard fundamental domain of . The cutting sequence for a vertical geodesic is related to a one-dimensional continued fraction expansion for θ, called the one-dimensional Minkowski geodesic continued fraction (MGCF) expansion, which is associated to a parametrized family of reduced bases of a family of 2-dimensional lattices. The set of cutting sequences for all geodesics forms a two-sided shift in a symbol space which has the same set of forbidden blocks as for vertical geodesics. We show that this shift is not a sofic shift, and that it characterizes the fundamental domain ℱ up to an isometry of the hyperbolic plane . We give conversion methods between the cutting sequence for the vertical geodesic , the MGCF expansion of θ and the additive ordinary continued fraction (ACF) expansion of θ. We show that the cutting sequence and MGCF expansions can each be computed from the other by a finite automaton, and the ACF expansion of θ can be computed from the cutting sequence for the vertical geodesic θ + it by a finite automaton. However, the cutting sequence for a vertical geodesic cannot be computed from the ACF expansion by any finite automaton, but there is an algorithm to compute its first symbols when given as input the first symbols of the ACF expansion, which takes time and space .  相似文献

Our main theorem is a characterization of a totally geodesic K?hler immersion of a complex n-dimensional K?hler manifold M n into an arbitrary complex (n + p)-dimensional K?hler manifold by observing the extrinsic shape of K?hler Frenet curves on the submanifold M n . The continued fractions studied by Tasoev are not widely known although their characteristics are very similar to those of Hurwitz continued fractions. Recently, the author found several general forms of Tasoev continued fractions, and by applying this method he also obtained some more general forms of Hurwitz continued fractions belonging to so called tanh-type and tan-type. In this paper, we constitute a new class of general forms of Hurwitz continued fractions of e-type. The known continued fraction expansions of e1/a (a 1), ae1/a and (1/a)e1/a are included as special cases. The corresponding Tasoev continued fractions are also derived.  相似文献

It is proved that some velocity changes in flows on the torus determined by quasi-periodic Hamiltonians on : where α12 is an irrational number with bounded partial quotients, lead to singular flows on with an ergodic component having a minimal set of self-joinings.  In this paper, we show that if (u n ) n ≥ 0 is a Lucas sequence of integers whose roots are real quadratic units (like the Fibonacci sequence, for example), then for every integer b > 1 the density of the set of positive integers n such that |u n | is a base b palindrome (i.e., the string of its base b digits reads the same from the left and from the right) is zero. We consider a class of countable Markov shifts and a locally H?lder potential φ. We prove that the existence of φ-optimal measures is closely related to the behaviour of the pressure function tP(tφ). Using a Theorem by Sarig it is possible to prove that there exists a critical value t c ∈ (0, ∞] such that for t < t c the pressure is analytic and for t > t c is linear. We prove that if t c is finite, then there are no φ-optimal measures, and if it is infinite, then φ-optimal measures do exist. Here f is a polynomial of degree g and the D are certain polynomials of degree deg . Specifically, (so q divides ). Note that, morally, one expects such integrals to produce inverse elliptic functions and worse, rather than an innocent logarithm of an algebraic function. Abel went on to study, well, abelian integrals, and it is Chebychev who explains – using continued fractions – what is going on with these ‘quasi-elliptic’ integrals. Recently, the second author computed all the polynomials D over the rationals of degree 4 that have an f as above. We will explain various contexts in which the present issues arise. Those contexts include symbolic integration of algebraic functions; the study of units in function fields; and, given a suitable polynomial g, the consideration of period length of the continued fraction expansion of the numbers as n varies in the integers. But the major content of this survey is an introduction to period continued fractions in hyperelliptic – thus quadratic – function fields. We consider a spinning charge coupled to the Maxwell field. Through the appropriate symmetry in the initial conditions the charge remains at rest. We establish that any time-dependent finite energy solution converges to a sum of a soliton wave and an outgoing free wave. The convergence holds in global energy norm. Under a small constant external magnetic field the soliton manifold is stable in local energy seminorms and the evolution of the angular velocity is guided by an effective finite-dimensional dynamics. Diophantine Properties of Lehmer’s Continued Cotangent Developments. This article deals with an algorithm devised by Lehmer which enables us to write any real positive number as the sum of an alternating series of cotangents of integers n ν, ν ≥ 0, in a unique way. We continue the work begun by Lehmer and continued by Shallit: amongst other things, we give explicitly the link between the rational approximations of a given real number coming from this algorithm and the usual convergents of the same real number and we produce a quasi-optimal bound for the growth of the sequence (n ν)ν ≥ 0 associated to an algebraic number. We also determine the regular continued fractions of an exceptional class of continued cotangent developments, which enables us to produce optimal irrationality measures of these expansions.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the mean value of the product of multiplicative arithmetic functions with shifted argument. The investigated functions have to satisfy the following conditions: their moduli do not exceed 1; the values on the set of primes are close to 1 for one of the functions and close to a fixed complex number for the other function.  For a real or p-adic unipotent algebraic group G, given a T∈ Hom(G, G) and T-decomposable measure on G which is either ‘full’ or symmetric, we get a decomposition , where μ0 is T-invariant and , and this decomposition is unique upto a shift. We also show that ν0 is T-decomposable under some additional sufficient condition and give a counter example to justify this. We generalise the above to power bounded operators on p-adic Banach spaces. We also prove some convergence-of-types theorems on p-adic groups as well as Banach spaces. We consider mixing d-actions on compact zero-dimensional abelian groups by automorphisms. Rigidity of invariant measures does not hold for such actions in general; we present conditions which force an invariant measure to be Haar measure on an affine subset. This is applied to isomorphism rigidity for such actions. We develop a theory of halfspace entropies which plays a similar role in the proof to that played by invariant foliations in the proof of rigidity for smooth actions.  相似文献
