We define the Sheffer group of all Sheffer-type polynomials and prove the isomorphism between the Sheffer group and the Riordan group. An equivalence of the Riordan array pair and generalized Stirling number pair is also presented. Finally, we discuss a higher dimensional extension of Riordan array pairs.  相似文献

The automorphism group of the group generated by all the affine reflections in a Desarguesian plane is isomorphic to the full collineation group of the plane. The author wishes to express his thanks to J. We introduce families $ \mathcal{B}_n^S\left( {{z_1},\ldots,{z_n}} \right) $ and $ \mathcal{B}_{{n,\hbar}}^S\left( {{z_1},\ldots,{z_n}} \right) $ of maximal commutative subalgebras, called Bethe subalgebras, of the group algebra $ \mathbb{C}\left[ {\mathfrak{S}n} \right] $ of the symmetric group. Bethe subalgebras are deformations of the Gelfand?Zetlin subalgebra of $ \mathbb{C}\left[ {\mathfrak{S}n} \right] $ . We describe various properties of Bethe subalgebras.  相似文献

It is proven that if K is a commutative ring of characteristic pm while group G contains p-elements, then the multiplicative group UKG of group ring KG is nilpotent if and only if G is nilpotent and its commutant G is a finite p-group. Those group algebras KG are described for which the nilpotency classes of groups G and UKG coincide.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 11, No. 2, pp. 191–200, February, 1972.In conclusion, the author wishes to express her gratitude to A. A. Bovdi for his scientific direction.  相似文献

LetG be a one-ended, word-hyperbolic group. Let Γ be an irreducible lattice in a connected semi-simple Lie group of rank at least 2. Ifh: Γ→Out(G) is a homomorphism, then Im(h) is finite. Dedicated to Professor Takushiro Ochiai for his sixtieth birthday  相似文献

Let be an almost crystallographic (AC-) group, corresponding to the simply connected, connected, nilpotent Lie group and with holonomy group . If , there is a faithful representation . In case is crystallographic, this condition is known to be equivalent to or . We will show (Example 2.2) that, for AC-groups , this is no longer valid and should be adapted. A generalised equivalent algebraic (and easier to verify) condition is presented (Theorem 2.3). Corresponding to an AC-group and by factoring out subsequent centers we construct a series of AC-groups, which becomes constant after a finite number of terms. Under suitable conditions, this opens a way to represent faithfully in (Theorem 4.1). We show how this can be used to calculate . This is of importance, especially, when is almost Bieberbach and, hence, is known to have an interesting geometric meaning.

Let ψ be the projectivization (i.e., the set of one-dimensional vector subspaces) of a vector space of dimension ≥ 3 over a field. Let H be a closed (in the pointwise convergence topology) subgroup of the permutation group $\mathfrak{S}_\psi $ of the set ψ. Suppose that H contains the projective group and an arbitrary self-bijection of ψ transforming a triple of collinear points to a non-collinear triple. It is well known from [Kantor W.M., McDonough T.P., On the maximality of PSL(d+1,q), d ≥ 2, J. London Math. Soc., 1974, 8(3), 426] that if ψ is finite then H contains the alternating subgroup $\mathfrak{A}_\psi $ of $\mathfrak{S}_\psi $ . We show in Theorem 3.1 that H = $\mathfrak{S}_\psi $ , if ψ is infinite.  相似文献

In this note, we study the torsion of extensions of finitely generated abelian by elementary abelian groups. When the action is trivial , we make a specific choice of a 1-cochain for a vanishing multiple of the cohomology class defining the extension and use it to completely describe the torsion of central extensions. As an application, one gets that, under the assumption of trivial action on homology, Zpr may act freely on (S1)k if and only if r?k, providing an alternative proof of the main theorem in [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 352 (6) (2000) 2689-2700] for central extensions.  相似文献

We study the group of interval exchange transformations and obtain several characterizations of its commutator group. In particular, it turns out that the commutator group is generated by elements of order 2.  相似文献

Let G be a group and let n be a positive integer. A polynomial function in G is a function from G n to G of the form , where f(x 1, . . . , x n ) is an element of the free product of G and the free group of rank n freely generated by x 1, . . . , x n . There is a natural definition for the product of two polynomial functions; equipped with this operation, the set of polynomial functions is a group. We prove that this group is polycyclic if and only if G is finitely generated, soluble, and nilpotent-by-finite. In particular, if the group of polynomial functions is polycyclic, then necessarily it is nilpotent-by-finite. Furthermore, we prove that G itself is polycyclic if and only if the subgroup of polynomial functions which send (1, . . . , 1) to 1 is finitely generated and soluble.   相似文献

Let k be a field with algebraic closure , G a semisimple algebraic k-group, and a maximal torus with character group X(T). Denote Λ the abstract weight lattice of the roots system of G, and by and the n-torsion subgroup of the Brauer group of k and G, respectively. We prove that if chark does not divide n and n is prime to the order of Λ/X(T) then the natural homomorphism is an isomorphism.  相似文献
