The projective dimension of three cubics is at most 5

Let R be a polynomial ring over a field and I an ideal generated by three forms of degree three. Motivated by Stillman's question, Engheta proved that the projective dimension $\mathrm{pd}(R/I)$ of $R/I$ is at most 36, although the example with largest projective dimension he constructed has $\mathrm{pd}(R/I)=5$. Based on computational evidence, it had been conjectured that $\mathrm{pd}(R/I)\le 5$. In the present paper we prove this conjectured sharp bound.     

On configuration spaces and Whitehouse's lifts of the Eulerian representations

S. Whitehouse's lifts of the Eulerian representations of ${\mathfrak{S}}_n$ to ${\mathfrak{S}}_{n+1}$ are reinterpreted, topologically and ring-theoretically, building on the first author's work on A. Ocneanu's theory of permutohedral blades.     

Applications and homological properties of local rings with decomposable maximal ideals

We construct a local Cohen–Macaulay ring R with a prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}\in \mathrm{Spec}(R)$ such that R satisfies the uniform Auslander condition (UAC), but the localization $R_{\mathfrak{p}}$ does not satisfy Auslander's condition (AC). Given any positive integer n, we also construct a local Cohen–Macaulay ring R with a prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}\in \mathrm{Spec}(R)$ such that R has exactly two non-isomorphic semidualizing modules, but the localization $R_{\mathfrak{p}}$ has $2^n$ non-isomorphic semidualizing modules. Each of these examples is constructed as a fiber product of two local rings over their common residue field. Additionally, we characterize the non-trivial Cohen–Macaulay fiber products of finite Cohen–Macaulay type.     

Divisibility of L-polynomials for a family of Artin–Schreier curves

In this paper we consider the curves $C_k^{(p,a)}:y^p?y=x^{p^k+1}+ax$ defined over ${\mathbb{F}}_p$ and give a positive answer to a conjecture about a divisibility condition on L-polynomials of the curves $C_k^{(p,a)}$. Our proof involves finding an exact formula for the number of ${\mathbb{F}}_{p^n}$-rational points on $C_k^{(p,a)}$ for all n, and uses a result we proved elsewhere about the number of rational points on supersingular curves.     

Affine flag varieties and quantum symmetric pairs,II. Multiplication formula

We establish a multiplication formula for a tridiagonal standard basis element in the idempotent version, i.e., the Lusztig form, of the coideal subalgebras of quantum affine ${\mathfrak{gl}}_n$ arising from the geometry of affine partial flag varieties of type C. We apply this formula to obtain the stabilization algebras ${\dot{\mathbf{K}}}_n^{\mathfrak{c}}$, ${\dot{\mathbf{K}}}_{\mathfrak{n}}^{??}$, ${\dot{\mathbf{K}}}_{\mathfrak{n}}^{??}$ and ${\dot{\mathbf{K}}}_{\eta }^{??}$, which are idempotented coideal subalgebras of quantum affine ${\mathfrak{gl}}_n$. The symmetry in the formula leads to an isomorphism of the idempotented coideal subalgebras ${\dot{\mathbf{K}}}_{\mathfrak{n}}^{??}$ and ${\dot{\mathbf{K}}}_{\mathfrak{n}}^{??}$ with compatible monomial, standard and canonical bases.     

Rigid cohomology via the tilting equivalence

We define a de Rham cohomology theory for analytic varieties over a valued field $K^{?}$ of equal characteristic p with coefficients in a chosen untilt of the perfection of $K^{?}$ by means of the motivic version of Scholze's tilting equivalence. We show that this definition generalizes the usual rigid cohomology in case the variety has good reduction. We also prove a conjecture of Ayoub yielding an equivalence between rigid analytic motives with good reduction and unipotent algebraic motives over the residue field, also in mixed characteristic.     

Hyperplane sections of determinantal varieties over finite fields and linear codes

We determine the number of ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-rational points of hyperplane sections of classical determinantal varieties defined by the vanishing of minors of a fixed size of a generic matrix, and identify the hyperplane sections giving the maximum number of ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-rational points. Further we consider similar questions for sections by linear subvarieties of a fixed codimension in the ambient projective space. This is closely related to the study of linear codes associated to determinantal varieties, and the determination of their weight distribution, minimum distance, and generalized Hamming weights. The previously known results about these are generalized and expanded significantly. Connections to eigenvalues of certain association schemes, distance regular graphs, and rank metric codes are also indicated.     

Asymptotic behavior of representations of graded categories with inductive functors

In this paper we describe inductive machinery to investigate asymptotic behavior of homology groups and related invariants of representations of certain graded combinatorial categories over a commutative Noetherian ring k, via introducing inductive functors which generalize important properties of shift functors of FI-modules. In particular, a sufficient criterion for finiteness of Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of finitely generated representations of these categories is obtained. As applications, we show that a few important infinite combinatorial categories appearing in representation stability theory (for example ${\mathrm{FI}}^d$, ${\mathrm{OI}}^d$, ${\mathrm{FI}}_d$, ${\mathrm{OI}}_d$) are equipped with inductive functors, and hence the finiteness of Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of their finitely generated representations is guaranteed. We also prove that truncated representations of these categories have linear minimal resolutions by relative projective modules, which are precisely linear minimal projective resolutions when k is a field of characteristic 0.     

Gaps in the number of generators of monomial Togliatti systems

Let $I_{d,n}?k[x_0,?,x_n]$ be a minimal monomial Togliatti system of forms of degree d. In [4], Mezzetti and Miró-Roig proved that the minimal number of generators $\mu (I_{d,n})$ of $I_{d,n}$ lies in the interval $[2n+1,\left(\begin{array}{c}n+d?1\\ n?1\end{array}\right)]$. In this paper, we prove that for $n\ge 4$ and $d\ge 3$, the integer values in $[2n+3,3n?1]$ cannot be realized as the number of minimal generators of a minimal monomial Togliatti system. We classify minimal monomial Togliatti systems $I_{d,n}?k[x_0,?,x_n]$ of forms of degree d with $\mu (I_{d,n})=2n+2$ or 3n (i.e. with the minimal number of generators reaching the border of the non-existence interval). Finally, we prove that for $n=4$, $d\ge 3$ and $\mu \in [9,\left(\begin{array}{c}d+3\\ 3\end{array}\right)]?\{11\}$ there exists a minimal monomial Togliatti system $I_{d,n}?k[x_0,?,x_n]$ of forms of degree d with $\mu (I_{n,d})=\mu$.     

Fq-linear codes over Fq-algebras

Huffman (2013) [12] studied ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-linear codes over ${\mathbb{F}}_{q^m}$ and he proved the MacWilliams identity for these codes with respect to ordinary and Hermitian trace inner products. Let S be a finite commutative ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-algebra. An ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-linear code over S of length n is an ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-submodule of $S^n$. In this paper, we study ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-linear codes over S. We obtain some bounds on minimum distance of these codes, and some large classes of MDR codes are introduced. We generalize the ordinary and Hermitian trace products over ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-algebras and we prove the MacWilliams identity with respect to the generalized form. In particular, we obtain Huffman's results on the MacWilliams identity. Among other results, we give a theory to construct a class of quantum codes and the structure of ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-linear codes over finite commutative graded ${\mathbb{F}}_q$-algebras.
