This review addresses recent advances in carbon‐nanotubes (CNT) based electrochemical biosensors. The unique chemical and physical properties of CNT have paved the way to new and improved sensing devices, in general, and electrochemical biosensors, in particular. CNT‐based electrochemical transducers offer substantial improvements in the performance of amperometric enzyme electrodes, immunosensors and nucleic‐acid sensing devices. The greatly enhanced electrochemical reactivity of hydrogen peroxide and NADH at CNT‐modified electrodes makes these nanomaterials extremely attractive for numerous oxidase‐ and dehydrogenase‐based amperometric biosensors. Aligned CNT “forests” can act as molecular wires to allow efficient electron transfer between the underlying electrode and the redox centers of enzymes. Bioaffinity devices utilizing enzyme tags can greatly benefit from the enhanced response of the biocatalytic‐reaction product at the CNT transducer and from CNT amplification platforms carrying multiple tags. Common designs of CNT‐based biosensors are discussed, along with practical examples of such devices. The successful realization of CNT‐based biosensors requires proper control of their chemical and physical properties, as well as their functionalization and surface immobilization.  相似文献

A novel MB‐SWNT‐sol‐gel nanocomposite material was prepared by the sol‐gel process incorporating a redox mediator and carbon nanotubes. The electrocatalytic properties of the nanomaterial based sensor toward NADH oxidation were studied by electrochemical measurements. Significant enhancement of oxidation current is obtained at electrodes modified by MB‐SWNT‐sol‐gel in comparison with the analogous carbon black and/or graphite composite modified electrode. The usefulness of the nanocomposite material as a matrix for immobilizing enzymes is also demonstrated. Analytical parameters of D ‐lactate biosensors with and without SWNT in the hybrid film were compared demonstrating that performance of the biosensor was significantly improved when introducing SWNT.  相似文献

Organophosphorus (OP) pesticides are primarily used as insecticides and chemical warfare agents worldwide. Due to their impact on the environment and health, it is important to develop prompt and accurate pesticide analysis method. This review addresses recent advances and new trends in nanotechnology‐based biosensors for biological monitoring of exposures to OP pesticides and nerve agents. In order to determine them, we have to find the corresponding biomarkers. In 1989, the national academy of sciences (NAS)divided biomarkers into the following three categories: biomarker of exposure, biomarker of effect and biomarker of susceptibility (Figure 1A). The unique chemical and physical properties of nanomaterial have paved the way to new and improved sensing devices, in general, and electrochemical/optical biosensors, in particular. In this paper, background information and a general overview of electrochemical/immunoassay detection techniques are provided. Various nanomaterial labels are discussed. Usually nanomaterials can be roughly divided into nanometer powder, nanometer fiber, nanometer film, nanometer block and so on four classes, such as colloidal gold, semiconductor nanoparticles and carbon nanomaterial (Figure 1B). In addition, we discuss some future considerations and opportunities for advancing the use of biosensors for environmental and health studies.  相似文献

Early diagnosis of diseases with minimal cost and time-consumption has become achievable due to recent advances in the development of biosensors. These devices use biorecognition elements for the selective interaction with an analyte and the signal read-out is obtained via different types of transducers. The operational characteristics of biosensors have been reported as improving substantially when a diverse range of nanomaterials is employed. This review presents the construction of electrochemical biosensors based on graphene, atomically thin 2D carbon crystals, a nanomaterial currently the subject of intensive studies. Here, the most attractive directions for graphene applications in biosensor preparation are discussed, including novel detection and amplification schemes exploiting graphene’s unique electrochemical, physical and chemical properties. There is probably a very bright future for graphene-based biosensors, but much further work is required to fulfill the high expectations.  相似文献

The application of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) based screen printed graphite electrodes (SPEs) was explored in this study for the electrochemical monitoring of DNA hybridization related to specific sequences on Hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA. After the microscopic characterization of bare MWCNT‐SPEs and DNA immobilized ones was performed, the optimization of assay has been studied. The development of screen printing process combined with nanomaterial based disposable sensor technology leads herein a great opportunity for DNA detection using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) by measuring the guanine oxidation signal observed at +1.00 V in the presence of DNA hybridization between HBV probe and its complementary, target. The detection limit estimated for signal to noise ratios =3 corresponds to 96.33 nM target concentration in the 40 μL samples. The advantages of carbon nanotube based screen printed electrode used for electrochemical monitoring of DNA hybridization are discussed with sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility in comparison with previous nanomaterial based electrochemical transducers developed for DNA or other biomolecular recognitions.  相似文献

Development of electrochemical DNA hybridization biosensors based on carbon paste electrode (CPE) and gold nanoparticle modified carbon paste electrode (NGMCPE) as transducers and ethyl green (EG) as a new electroactive label is described. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques were applied for the investigation and comparison of bare CPE and NGMCPE surfaces. Our voltammetric and spectroscopic studies showed gold nanoparticles are enable to facilitate electron transfer between the accumulated label on DNA probe modified electrode and electrode surface and enhance the electrical signals and lead to an improved detection limit. The immobilization of a 15‐mer single strand oligonucleotide probe on the working electrodes and hybridization event between the probe and its complementary sequence as a target were investigated by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) responses of the EG accumulated on the electrodes. The effects of some experimental variables on the performance of the biosensors were investigated and optimum conditions were suggested. The selectivity of the biosensors was studied using some non‐complementary oligonucleotides. Finally the detection limits were calculated as 1.35×10?10 mol/L and 5.16×10?11 mol/L on the CPE and NEGCPE, respectively. In addition, the biosensors exhibited a good selectivity, reproducibility and stability for the determination of DNA sequences.  相似文献

Au–ZnS core–shell nanostructures were grown onto the transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film-coated glass surface by successive electrodeposition of Au and ZnS in cyclic voltammetry. The resulting hybrid nanostructures were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV–vis spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The glucose oxidase (GOD) was immobilized onto the surface of the Au–ZnS hybrid nanostructures in silica sol–gel network. Furthermore, the Au–ZnS nanostructures demonstrate an enhanced direct electron transfer between GOD and the electrode due to their unique chemical and electrocatalytic properties and their synergy effect. The analytical performance of the GOD-based electrode was improved greatly compared with that of ITO substrate modified by Au or ZnS nanostructures alone. The proposed enzyme electrode based on Au–ZnS hybrid nanomaterials displays high sensitivity and wide linear range in the determination of glucose. The Au–ZnS hybrid nanostructures have potential for “green chemistry” application in the fabrication of enzyme-based electrochemical biosensors.  相似文献

Over the past few decades, the (bio)functionalization of carbon nanomaterials (CNMs), such as nanohorns, carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphite and related with a wide range of (bio)modifiers have been extensively studied for their incorporation on different pure metal or carbon electrode surfaces via drop‐casting. However, CNMs are also shown to be important functional additives for polymers, having great potential to produce rigid nanocomposite materials with a range of enhanced properties, including mechanical, optical, electrical, thermal and electrochemical. The high malleability derived from the host polymer allows alternative strategies that can be carried out in order to incorporate different types of (bio)modifiers in/on/into a polymeric nanocomposite electrode. Accordingly, this mini review overviews the main methodologies used for the bio‐functionalization of electrochemical transducers based on nanocomposite carbon paste electrodes (NC‐CPEs). Additionally, the most extensively (bio)modifiers used in electrochemical (bio)sensing, together with their various electrocatalytical performance are also discussed, fact that might serve as a general outlook for planning further research.  相似文献

From diagnosis of life‐threatening diseases to detection of biological agents in warfare or terrorist attacks, biosensors are becoming a critical part of modern life. Many recent biosensors have incorporated carbon nanotubes as sensing elements, while a growing body of work has begun to do the same with the emergent nanomaterial graphene, which is effectively an unrolled nanotube. With this widespread use of carbon nanomaterials in biosensors, it is timely to assess how this trend is contributing to the science and applications of biosensors. This Review explores these issues by presenting the latest advances in electrochemical, electrical, and optical biosensors that use carbon nanotubes and graphene, and critically compares the performance of the two carbon allotropes in this application. Ultimately, carbon nanomaterials, although still to meet key challenges in fabrication and handling, have a bright future as biosensors.  相似文献

Abstract

Carbon nanomaterials are in the forefront of research in a variety of chemical and physical disciplines. Of these, certain nanostructures seem to be suitable for the development of electrochemical biosensors. In particular carbon nanotubes, and carbon nanofibers have specific chemical and physical characteristics that lent them ideal for the development of biosensors with unique analytical characteristics. In particular, their conductivity, surface area, inherent and induced chemical functionalities, and biocompatibility provide the grounds for the development of a new era of electrochemical biosensors. In this review, we will examine the recent developments of biosensor design based on these new nanostructures.  相似文献

In this article, electrochemical properties of CuO nanostructures based dopamine (DA) sensor was investigated. The morphology, structure, optical, and compositional properties of the CuO nanostructures were characterized by using SEM, XRD, UV‐Vis, and XPS techniques. The electrochemical properties were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The CV results indicate that biosensors based on CuO nanostructures exhibit a high selectivity and sensitivity of 0.1975 μA μM–1 toward DA and effectively avoids the interference of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA). The obtained EIS spectra for CuO sensors were analysed using an electrical equivalent circuit to understand the bulk and surface response via the capacitive and resistive parameters. The EIS measurement also leads to the direct determination of parameters like series resistance and ion diffusion phenomena at electrode‐electrolyte interface. The experimental CV and EIS results along with their analysis will have a significant impact on understanding the mechanism of high sensitivity and selectivity performance of CuO based sensors. This study may also lay the basis for efficient characterization of biosensors by coupling both the CV and EIS characterization techniques.  相似文献

Biofuel cells (BFCs) based on enzymes and microorganisms have been recently received considerable attention because they are recognized as an attractive type of energy conversion technology. In addition to the research activities related to the application of BFCs as power source, we have witnessed recently a growing interest in using BFCs for self‐powered electrochemical biosensing and electrochemical logic biosensing applications. Compared with traditional biosensors, one of the most significant advantages of the BFCs‐based self‐powered electrochemical biosensors and logic biosensors is their ability to detect targets integrated with chemical‐to‐electrochemical energy transformation, thus obviating the requirement of external power sources. Following my previous review (Electroanalysis 2012 , 24, 197–209), the present review summarizes, discusses and updates the most recent progress and latest advances on the design and construction of BFCs‐based self‐powered electrochemical biosensors and logic biosensors. In addition to the traditional approaches based on substrate effect, inhibition effect, blocking effect and gene regulation effect for BFCs‐based self‐powered electrochemical biosensors and logic biosensors design, some new principles including enzyme effect, co‐stabilization effect, competition effect and hybrid effect are summarized and discussed by me in details. The outlook and recommendation of future directions of BFCs‐based self‐powered electrochemical biosensors and logic biosensors are discussed in the end.  相似文献

Recent advancement in nanoscience and nanotechnologies inspired a wide spectrum of uses of nanodimensional materials ranging from industrial sector to biomedical applications. Inorganic nanomaterials made of noble metals, which are corrosion-resistant, are often included as electrode modifiers in designing electrochemical chemosensors and biosensors because of their unique catalytic, electric, and surface-related properties. This review summarizes the developments in electrochemical biosensors with integrated in their architecture metal nanostructures reported mainly during the last two years with a summary on some of the commonly used methods for the synthesis of metallic nanostructures. Nanodimensional noble metal structures might be considered as multipurpose electrode modifiers because of their abilities to act at the same time as electrocatalysts, signal amplifiers, and tools for immobilization and spatial orientation of redox proteins/enzymes or other type of bioreceptors.  相似文献

Point‐of‐care (PoC) biosensors offer promising solutions to today's adverse and costly healthcare issues by moving diagnostic tools closer to the patient. The ubiquity of smartphones has brought about an emergence of PoC devices, which leverage the smartphone's capabilities, enabling the creation of low‐cost and portable biosensors. Electrochemical biosensors are well suited for PoC testing since the transducers can be miniaturized and inexpensively fabricated. This review paper discusses recent developments in smartphone‐based electrochemical biosensors for PoC diagnostics. These peripherals utilize the various connectivity options (for example proprietary ports, audio headphone‐jack, or wireless radio) to offload functionality to the smartphone. The smartphone‐based implementations of various electrochemical techniques, such as amperometry, potentiometry, and impedance spectroscopy are explored. Major challenges include reducing power, area, and cost of measurement circuitry, while maintaining adequate performance for PoC diagnostic applications.  相似文献

Biomass‐derived carbon materials have received special attention as efficient, low‐cost, active materials for charge‐storage devices, regardless of the power system, such as supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries. In this Minireview, we discuss the influence of biomass‐derived carbonaceous materials as positive or negative electrodes (or both) in high‐energy hybrid lithium‐ion configurations with an organic electrolyte. In such hybrid configurations, the electrochemical activity is completely different to conventional electrical double‐layer capacitors; that is, one of the electrodes undergoes a Faradaic reaction, whilst the counter electrode undergoes a non‐Faradaic reaction, to achieve high energy density. The use of a variety of biomass precursors with different properties, such as surface functionality, the presence of inherent heteroatoms, tailored meso‐/microporosity, high specific surface area, various degrees of crystallization, calcination temperature, and atmosphere, are described in detail. Sodium‐ion capacitors are also discussed, because they are an important alternative to lithium‐ion capacitors, owing to the low abundance and high cost of lithium. The electrochemical performance of carbonaceous electrodes in supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries are not discussed.  相似文献

A review (350 references) is given to the interest of mesoporous materials for designing electrochemical sensors. After a brief summary of the implication of template‐based ordered mesoporous materials in electrochemical science, the various types of inorganic and organic‐inorganic hybrid mesostructures used to date in electroanalysis and the corresponding electrode configurations are described. The various sensor applications are then discussed on the basis of comprehensive tables and some representative illustrations. The main detection schemes developed in the field are (volt)amperometric sensing subsequent to preconcentration and electrocatalytic detection.  相似文献

Enzymes, primarily different types of oxidases and most commonly peroxidase, are often used in the construction of biosensors. Enzymatic biosensors, due to their small size, easy to handle construction, accuracy and specificity, are powerful healthcare tools commonly used for the diagnosis of diseases for more than 20 years. Unfortunately, the loss of enzymatic activity during the immobilization of enzymes into biosensors has been a recent major problem. Hence, nonenzymatic electrochemical sensors based on organic and inorganic nanostructures have gained great attention in the last few years. In this short review, different types of nanostructures and nanocomposites and their practical applications in the construction of nonenzymatic electrochemical sensors in healthcare and diagnosis are described and summarized.  相似文献
