Convex relaxations can be used to obtain lower bounds on the optimal objective function value of nonconvex quadratically constrained quadratic programs. However, for some problems, significantly better bounds can be obtained by minimizing the restricted Lagrangian function for a given estimate of the Lagrange multipliers. The difficulty in utilizing Lagrangian duality within a global optimization context is that the restricted Lagrangian is often nonconvex. Minimizing a convex underestimate of the restricted Lagrangian overcomes this difficulty and facilitates the use of Lagrangian duality within a global optimization framework. A branch-and-bound algorithm is presented that relies on these Lagrangian underestimates to provide lower bounds and on the interval Newton method to facilitate convergence in the neighborhood of the global solution. Computational results show that the algorithm compares favorably to the Reformulation–Linearization Technique for problems with a favorable structure.  相似文献

We establish several convexity results which are concerned with nonconvex quadratic matrix (QM) functions: strong duality of quadratic matrix programming problems, convexity of the image of mappings comprised of several QM functions and existence of a corresponding S-lemma. As a consequence of our results, we prove that a class of quadratic problems involving several functions with similar matrix terms has a zero duality gap. We present applications to robust optimization, to solution of linear systems immune to implementation errors and to the problem of computing the Chebyshev center of an intersection of balls. This paper presents a perfect duality theory and a complete set of solutions to nonconvex quadratic programming problems subjected to inequality constraints. By use of the canonical dual transformation developed recently, a canonical dual problem is formulated, which is perfectly dual to the primal problem in the sense that they have the same set of KKT points. It is proved that the KKT points depend on the index of the Hessian matrix of the total cost function. The global and local extrema of the nonconvex quadratic function can be identified by the triality theory [11]. Results show that if the global extrema of the nonconvex quadratic function are located on the boundary of the primal feasible space, the dual solutions should be interior points of the dual feasible set, which can be solved by deterministic methods. Certain nonconvex quadratic programming problems in {\open {R}}^{n} can be converted into a dual problem with only one variable. It turns out that a complete set of solutions for quadratic programming over a sphere is obtained as a by-product. Several examples are illustrated.  相似文献

In this paper we present an algorithm for solving nonconvex quadratically constrained quadratic programs (all-quadratic programs). The method is based on a simplicial branch-and-bound scheme involving mainly linear programming subproblems. Under the assumption that a feasible point of the all-quadratic program is known, the algorithm guarantees an -approximate optimal solution in a finite number of iterations. Computational experiments with an implementation of the procedure are reported on randomly generated test problems. The presented algorithm often outperforms a comparable rectangular branch-and-bound method.  相似文献

We consider a recent branch-and-bound algorithm of the authors for nonconvex quadratic programming. The algorithm is characterized by its use of semidefinite relaxations within a finite branching scheme. In this paper, we specialize the algorithm to the box-constrained case and study its implementation, which is shown to be a state-of-the-art method for globally solving box-constrained nonconvex quadratic programs. The subject of this article is a class of global optimization problems, in which the variables can be divided into two groups such that, in each group, the functions involved have the same structure (e.g. linear, convex or concave, etc.). Based on the decomposition idea of Benders (Ref. 1), a corresponding master problem is defined on the space of one of the two groups of variables. The objective function of this master problem is in fact the optimal value function of a nonlinear parametric optimization problem. To solve the resulting master problem, a branch-and-bound scheme is proposed, in which the estimation of the lower bounds is performed by applying the well-known weak duality theorem in Lagrange duality. The results of this article concentrate on two subjects: investigating the convergence of the general algorithm and solving dual problems of some special classes of nonconvex optimization problems. Based on results in sensitivity and stability theory and in parametric optimization, conditions for the convergence are established by investigating the so-called dual properness property and the upper semicontinuity of the objective function of the master problem. The general algorithm is then discussed in detail for some nonconvex problems including concave minimization problems with a special structure, general quadratic problems, optimization problems on the efficient set, and linear multiplicative programming problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we will develop an algorithm for solving a quadratic fractional programming problem which was recently introduced by Lo and MacKinlay to construct a maximal predictability portfolio, a new approach in portfolio analysis. The objective function of this problem is defined by the ratio of two convex quadratic functions, which is a typical global optimization problem with multiple local optima. We will show that a well-designed branch-and-bound algorithm using (i) Dinkelbach's parametric strategy, (ii) linear overestimating function and (iii) -subdivision strategy can solve problems of practical size in an efficient way. This algorithm is particularly efficient for Lo-MacKinlay's problem where the associated nonconvex quadratic programming problem has low rank nonconcave property.  相似文献

Motivated by weakly convex optimization and quadratic optimization problems, we first show that there is no duality gap between a difference of convex (DC) program over DC constraints and its associated dual problem. We then provide certificates of global optimality for a class of nonconvex optimization problems. As an application, we derive characterizations of robust solutions for uncertain general nonconvex quadratic optimization problems over nonconvex quadratic constraints.  相似文献

A nonconvex generalized semi-infinite programming problem is considered, involving parametric max-functions in both the objective and the constraints. For a fixed vector of parameters, the values of these parametric max-functions are given as optimal values of convex quadratic programming problems. Assuming that for each parameter the parametric quadratic problems satisfy the strong duality relation, conditions are described ensuring the uniform boundedness of the optimal sets of the dual problems w.r.t. the parameter. Finally a branch-and-bound approach is suggested transforming the problem of finding an approximate global minimum of the original nonconvex optimization problem into the solution of a finite number of convex problems.  相似文献

In this paper we analyze difference-of-convex (d.c.) decompositions for indefinite quadratic functions. Given a quadratic function, there are many possible ways to decompose it as a difference of two convex quadratic functions. Some decompositions are dominated, in the sense that other decompositions exist with a lower curvature. Obviously, undominated decompositions are of particular interest. We provide three different characterizations of such decompositions, and show that there is an infinity of undominated decompositions for indefinite quadratic functions. Moreover, two different procedures will be suggested to find an undominated decomposition starting from a generic one. Finally, we address applications where undominated d.c.d.s may be helpful: in particular, we show how to improve bounds in branch-and-bound procedures for quadratic optimization problems.  相似文献

In Floudas and Visweswaran (1990, 1993), a deterministic global optimization approach was proposed for solving certain classes of nonconvex optimization problems. An algorithm, GOP, was presented for the solution of the problem through a series ofprimal andrelaxed dual problems that provide valid upper and lower bounds respectively on the global solution. The algorithm was proved to have finite convergence to an -global optimum. In this paper, new theoretical properties are presented that help to enhance the computational performance of the GOP algorithm applied to problems of special structure. The effect of the new properties is illustrated through application of the GOP algorithm to a difficult indefinite quadratic problem, a multiperiod tankage quality problem that occurs frequently in the modeling of refinery processes, and a set of pooling/blending problems from the literature. In addition, extensive computational experience is reported for randomly generated concave and indefinite quadratic programming problems of different sizes. The results show that the properties help to make the algorithm computationally efficient for fairly large problems.  相似文献

We show that SDP (semidefinite programming) and SOCP (second order cone programming) relaxations provide exact optimal solutions for a class of nonconvex quadratic optimization problems. It is a generalization of the results by S. Zhang for a subclass of quadratic maximization problems that have nonnegative off-diagonal coefficient matrices of quadratic objective functions and diagonal coefficient matrices of quadratic constraint functions. A new SOCP relaxation is proposed for the class of nonconvex quadratic optimization problems by extracting valid quadratic inequalities for positive semidefinite cones. Its effectiveness to obtain optimal values is shown to be the same as the SDP relaxation theoretically. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate that the SOCP relaxation is much more efficient than the SDP relaxation.  相似文献

The quadratic sum-of-ratios fractional program problem has a broad range of applications in practical problems. This article will present an e?cient branch-and-bound algorithm for globally solving the quadratic sum-of-ratios fractional program problem. In this algorithm, lower bounds are computed by solving a series of parametric relaxation linear programming problems, which are established by utilizing new parametric linearizing technique. To enhance the computational speed of the proposed algorithm, a rectangle reducing tactic is used to reject a part of the investigated rectangle or the whole rectangle where there does not contain any global optimal solution of the quadratic sum-of-ratios fractional program problem. Compared with the known approaches, the proposed algorithm does not need to introduce new variables and constraints. Therefore, the proposed algorithm is more suitable for application in engineering.  相似文献

We propose a branch-and-bound algorithm for solving nonconvex quadratically-constrained quadratic programs. The algorithm is novel in that branching is done by partitioning the feasible region into the Cartesian product of two-dimensional triangles and rectangles. Explicit formulae for the convex and concave envelopes of bilinear functions over triangles and rectangles are derived and shown to be second-order cone representable. The usefulness of these new relaxations is demonstrated both theoretically and computationally.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving a general nonconvex quadratic minimization problem with nonconvex constraints. By using the canonical dual transformation developed by the first author, the nonconvex primal problem can be converted into a canonical dual problem with zero duality gap. A general analytical solution form is obtained. Both global and local extrema of the nonconvex problem can be identified by the triality theory associated with the canonical duality theory. Illustrative applications to quadratic minimization with multiple quadratic constraints, box/integer constraints, and general nonconvex polynomial constraints are discussed, along with insightful connections to classical Lagrangian duality. Criteria for the existence and uniqueness of optimal solutions are presented. Several numerical examples are provided.  相似文献

In this paper we study a class of nonconvex quadratically constrained quadratic programming problems generalized from relaxations of quadratic assignment problems. We show that each problem is polynomially solved. Strong duality holds if a redundant constraint is introduced. As an application, a new lower bound is proposed for the quadratic assignment problem.  相似文献
