Abstract— Zinc chlorins possessing 31-hydroxyl and 131-carbonyl groups self-assemble in nonpolar solvents, such as hexane, in a manner similar to bacteriochlorophyll c in the chlorosomes of green photosynthetic bacteria. Visible absorption and steady-state fluorescence measurements of zinc chlorin aggregates containing a small amount of the bacteriochlorin-zinc chlorin dyad molecules showed that singlet excitation energy transfer from the zinc chlorin aggregate to the bacteriochlorin moiety of the coaggre-gated dyad occurs in the homogeneous solution. In the coaggregated dyad, the bacteriochlorin moiety plays the role of an efficient energy trap and the chlorin moiety the role of an anchor to the donor aggregate. The artificial assembly thus mimics the structure and function of natural chlorosomes and can be considered as the first in vitro supramolecular light-harvesting antenna.  相似文献

Optically active ethynylhelicene pentamers and hexamers linked by disulfide bonds were synthesized. They formed self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with double helix structure on gold surfaces, which were analyzed by infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IR-RAS), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), and circular dichroism (CD). Double helix SAMs could be formed on gold surfaces either from double helices or random coils in solution. The double helices on the surface were more stable than in solution. This result suggested the presence of strong intercomplex interactions between double helix complexes on the surface.  相似文献

We describe a two-step conversion of C-alkylated zinc chlorins to zinc oxochlorins wherein the keto group is located in the reduced ring (17-position) of the macrocycle. The transformation proceeds by hydroxylation upon exposure to alumina followed by dehydrogenation with DDQ. The reactions are compatible with ethyne, iodo, ester, trimethylsilyl, and pentafluorophenyl groups. A route to a spirohexyl-substituted chlorin/oxochlorin has also been developed. Representative chlorins and oxochlorins were characterized by static and time-resolved absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, resonance Raman spectroscopy, and electrochemistry. The fluorescence quantum yields of the zinc oxochlorins (Phi(f) = 0.030-0.047) or free base (Fb) oxochlorins (Phi(f) = 0.13-0.16) are comparable to those of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) or free base tetraphenylporphyrin (FbTPP), respectively. The excited-state lifetimes of the zinc oxochlorins (tau = 0.5-0.7 ns) are on average 4-fold lower than that of ZnTPP, and the lifetimes of the Fb oxochlorins (tau = 7.4-8.9 ns) are approximately 40% shorter than that of FbTPP. Time-resolved absorption spectroscopy of a zinc oxochlorin indicates the yield of intersystem crossing is >70%. Resonance Raman spectroscopy of copper oxochlorins show strong resonance enhancement of the keto group upon Soret excitation but not with Q(y)()-band excitation, which is attributed to the location of the keto group in the reduced ring (rather than in the isocyclic ring as occurs in chlorophylls). The one-electron oxidation potential of the zinc oxochlorins is shifted to more positive potentials by approximately 240 mV compared with that of the zinc chlorin. Collectively, the fluorescence yields, excited-state lifetimes, oxidation potentials, and various spectral characteristics of the chlorin and oxochlorin building blocks provide the foundation for studies of photochemical processes in larger architectures based on these chromophores.  相似文献

2,9,16-Tri(tert-butyl)-23-(10-mercaptodecyloxy)phthalocyanine (8) and its disulfide (9) have been synthesized and characterized, and their self-assembling behaviors on gold substrates have been studied. Characteristic Q-bands were observed at about 630 nm in the UV/visible spectra of the self-assembling monolayers (SAMs). They were broadened and blue-shifted relative to those observed in solution. Binding energies for S2p have the same values (161.70 eV) and are in accord with those for gold thiolates. The application of the SAMs in organic light-emitting diode was investigated. It shows that the SAM promotes the hole injection process from the anode.  相似文献

The first self-assembly of a C60 pi-extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) dyad on a gold surface is reported. Four fullerene derivatives, two of them containing p-quinonoid pi-extended tetrathiafulvalenes (exTTFs), have been synthesized, and their solution electrochemistry has been investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry. Fullerene-containing SAMs of thioctic acid derivatives 3 and 6 have also been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The cyclic voltammograms of both compounds exhibit three reversible reduction waves, and for compound 6, one irreversible oxidation process corresponding to the oxidation of the exTTF subunit is observed. Stable self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of fullerene derivative 3 were formed on gold surfaces, whereas dyad 6 does not present a very clear electrochemical response, most probably as a result of structural rearrangements on the monolayer or charge transfer between the C60 and exTTF moieties.  相似文献

In the present study, a biomimetic reaction center model, that is, a molecular triad consisting of a chlorin dimer and an azafulleroid, is synthesized and its photophysical properties are studied in comparison with the corresponding molecular dyad, which consists only of a chlorin monomer and an azafulleroid. As evidenced by 1H NMR, UV/Vis, and fluorescence spectroscopy, the chlorin dimer–azafulleroid folds in nonpolar media into a C2‐symmetric geometry through hydrogen bonding, resulting in appreciable electronic interactions between the chlorins, whereas in polar media the two chlorins diverge from contact. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy studies reveal longer charge‐separated states for the chlorin dimer–azafulleroid; ≈1.6 ns in toluene, compared with the lifetime of ≈0.9 ns for the corresponding chlorin monomer–azafulleroid in toluene. In polar media, for example, benzonitrile, similar charge‐separated states are observed, but the lifetimes are inevitably shorter: 65 and 73 ps for the dimeric and monomeric chlorin–azafulleroids, respectively. Nanosecond transient absorption and singlet oxygen phosphorescence studies corroborate that in toluene, the charge‐separated state decays indirectly via the triplet excited state to the ground state, whereas in benzonitrile, direct recombination to the ground state is observed. Complementary DFT studies suggest two energy‐minima conformations, that is, a folded chlorin dimer–azafulleroid, which is present in nonpolar media, and another conformation in polar media, in which the two hydrophobic chlorins wrap the azafulleroid. Inspection of the frontier molecular orbitals shows that in the folded conformation, the HOMO on each chlorin is equivalent and is shared owing to partial π–π overlap, resulting in delocalization of the conjugated π electrons, whereas the wrapped conformation lacks this stabilization. As such, the longer charge‐separated lifetime for the dimer is rationalized by both the electron donor–acceptor separation distance and the stabilization of the radical cation through delocalization. The chlorin folding seems to change the photophysical properties in a manner similar to that observed in the chlorophyll dimer in natural photosynthetic reaction centers.  相似文献

We newly synthesized various sized gold nanoparticles covered with photochromic polymers consisting of diarylethenes with various structures to investigate an effect of the gold nanoparticles on the photocycloreversion reaction of the diarylethene chromophores upon irradiation with visible light. The gold nanoparticles covered with the photochromic polymers exhibited reversible changes in localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption along with the photochromic reaction depending on the diameter of the particle, the distance between the gold surface and the chromophore, and the structure of the diarylethene chromophore. The rate of the photocycloreversion reaction of the chromophores around the particle was enhanced by the gold nanoparticles and the degree of the enhancement was affected by the diameter of the particle and the distance from the gold surface, while a structural difference in the diarylethene chromophore had no effect on the degree of the enhancement. The larger enhancement of the photocycloreversion reaction was observed by irradiation at longer wavelength side than visible light corresponding to the LSPR frequency.  相似文献

The Qy absorption band of two chlorophyll derivatives, zinc chlorin e6 (ZnCe6) and zinc pheophorbide a (ZnPheida), in aqueous solution is bathochromically shifted on addition of quinones, e.g., 1,4-benzoquinone (BQ), with a corresponding shift of the fluorescence band. This is due to a complex formation of zinc chlorins induced by BQs and subsequent rearrangement. The time-resolved absorption spectra after laser pulse excitation show triplet quenching of the pigments by BQ and other quinones via electron transfer. The effects of electron transfer to noncovalently bound BQs were also studied with de novo synthesized peptides, into which ZnCe6 and ZnPheida were incorporated as model systems for the primary steps of photosynthetic reaction centers. Whereas the photophysical properties are similar to those of the unbound zinc chlorins, no BQ-mediated complex formation was observed.  相似文献

The use of chlorins as photosensitizers or fluorophores in a range of biological applications requires facile provisions for imparting high water solubility. Two free base chlorins have been prepared wherein each chlorin bears a geminal dimethyl group in the reduced ring and a water-solubilizing unit at the chlorin 10-position. In one design (FbC1-PO3H2), the water-solubilizing unit is a 1,5-diphosphonopent-3-yl ("swallowtail") unit, which has previously been used to good effect with porphyrins. In the other design (FbC2-PO3H2), the water-solubilizing unit is a 2,6-bis(phosphonomethoxy)phenyl unit. Two complementary routes were developed for preparing FbC2-PO3H2 that entail introduction of the protected phosphonate moieties either in the Eastern-half precursor to the chlorin or by derivatization of an intact chlorin. Water-solubilization is achieved in the last step of each synthesis upon removal of the phosphonate protecting groups. The chlorins FbC1-PO3H2 and FbC2-PO3H2 are highly water-soluble (>10 mM) as shown by 1H NMR spectroscopy (D2O) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The photophysical properties of the water-soluble chlorins in phosphate-buffered saline solution (pH 7.4) at room temperature were investigated using static and time-resolved absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. Each chlorin exhibits dominant absorption bands in the blue and the red region (lambda = 398, 626 nm), a modest fluorescence yield (Phi f approximately 0.11), a long singlet excited-state lifetime (tau = 7.5 ns), and a high yield of intersystem crossing to give the triplet state (Phi isc = 0.9). The properties of the water-soluble chlorins in aqueous media are comparable to those of hydrophobic chlorins in toluene. The high aqueous solubility combined with the attractive photophysical properties make these compounds suitable for a wide range of biomedical applications.  相似文献

We report visible, Raman, and infrared spectra of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) formed by the donor-(pi-bridge)-acceptor chromophore, Z-beta-[N-(omega-acetylthioalkyl)-4-quinolinium]-alpha-cyano-4-styryldicyanomethanide (CH3CO-S-CnH2n-Q3CNQ where n=8, 10), on gold-coated substrates. The data are compared with the spectra collected for the same compound in solution and in the solid state, and with those obtained for a Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayer of C16H33-Q3CNQ deposited on gold. Spectral analysis confirms that in solution, in the solid state and in the LB film the chromophore has a zwitterionic (D+-pi-A-) ground state. At variance with this well-known result, our data show that in SAMs deposited on gold the chromophore has a more neutral, quinoid ground state. We relate this difference to the different packing of the molecules in the two different films: in SAMs in fact the chromophores stand almost vertical with respect to the substrate, whereas in LB films they make an angle of about 45 degrees. The Q3CNQ molecule is a well-known molecular rectifier, and for SAMs we were able to check the direction of electron flow at forward bias on the same samples that have been characterized spectroscopically, shedding light on the rectification mechanism.  相似文献

Two new polychlorotriphenylmethyl (PTM) derivatives bearing a thioacetate and a disulfide group have been synthesized to anchor on gold substrate. On the basis of these molecules, three strategies were followed to prepare self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of electroactive PTMs. The resulting SAMs were fully characterized by contact angle, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (ToF-SIMS). The high coverage surface and stability of the SAMs were demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry. In addition, the electrochemical experiments proved that these SAMs are bistable since it is possible to reversibly switch between the PTM radical state to the corresponding anion. The magnetic response was investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance. We observed that when the PTM SAMs are in their radical form they confer magnetic functionality to the surface, whereas when they are in the anionic state, the surface is diamagnetic. Thus, the PTM-modified substrates are multifunctional surfaces since they combine magnetic and electroactive properties. The reported results show the high potential of these materials for the fabrication of surface molecular devices.  相似文献

Systematically synthetic zinc 3-hydroxymethyl-131-oxo-chlorins esterified by different linear alcohols (methanol, 1-propanol, 1-hexanol, 1-dodecanol and 1-octadecanol) at the 17-propionate were self-assembled in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in an aqueous solution. These zinc chlorins exhibited red-shifted Q y absorption bands and circular dichroism (CD) signals in the corresponding Q y region after incubation for 17 h, indicating that the zinc chlorins formed self-aggregates like those in natural chlorosomes of green photosynthetic bacteria. Visible absorption and CD spectra of self-aggregates of the zinc chlorins depended on the length of their esterifying alcohols. Zinc chlorins esterified by shorter alcohols gave larger changes in their visible absorption and CD spectra after incubation above 40°C, whereas zinc chlorins esterified by longer alcohols afforded smaller changes. These results indicate that hydrophobic interaction among esterifying chains of chlorin molecules as well as that between the esterifying chains and peripheral surfactants or lipids play an important role in the stability of chlorosomal self-aggregates.  相似文献

A set of chlorin-chlorin and oxochlorin-oxochlorin dyads has been prepared with components in the same or different metalation states. In each case a 4,4'-diphenylethyne linker spans the respective 10-position of each macrocycle. The dyads have been studied using static and time-resolved absorption and emission spectroscopy, resonance Raman spectroscopy, and electrochemical techniques. Excited-state energy transfer from a zinc chlorin to a free-base (Fb) chlorin occurs with a rate constant of (110 ps)(-1) and an efficiency of 93%; similar values of (140 ps)(-1) and 83% are found for the corresponding oxochlorin dyad. Energy transfer in both dyads is slower and less efficient than found previously for the analogous porphyrin dyad, which displays a rate of (24 ps)(-1) and a yield of 99%. The slower rates and diminished efficiencies in the ZnFb chlorin and oxochlorin dyads versus the ZnFb porphyrin dyad are attributed to substantially weaker linker-mediated through-bond (TB) electron-exchange coupling (as indicated by resonance Raman data). Although the through-space (TS, i.e., dipole-dipole) coupling in the ZnFb-chlorin and -oxochlorin dyads is enhanced relative to the ZnFb porphyrin dyad (as indicated by F?rster calculations), this enhancement is insufficient to compensate for the greatly diminished TB coupling. Taken together, the chlorin and oxochlorin dyads examined herein serve as benchmarks for elucidating the energy-transfer, electrochemical, and other properties of light-harvesting arrays containing multiple chlorins or oxochlorins.  相似文献

Telomers of N,N-dimethyl-N-(3-sulfopropyl)-3'-methacryloylaminopropanaminium inner salt (SPB), 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC), and N,N-dimethyl-N-(1-carboxymethyl)-2'-methacryloyloxylethanaminium inner salt (CMB) were prepared by UV irradiation in the presence of N,N,N',N'-tetraethylthiuram disulfide and a disulfide-group-carrying iniferter (a compound which pursues initiation, chain transfer, and termination), Cys-BDC, which had been prepared by coupling N,N-diethyldithiocarbamoylmethylbenzoic acid succinimidyl ester with cystamine dihydrochloride. The telomers formed a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on a gold electrode and a monolayer of colloidal gold deposited on a glass plate, as confirmed by the increase in potential difference (DeltaE(p)) of the voltammogram for hydroquinone as a probe using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and the increase in absorbance using localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption spectroscopy, respectively. Nonspecific adsorption of various proteins onto the surfaces of various telomer SAMs was examined from the decrease in peak current (DeltaI) using CV and the absorption increase at 550 nm using LSPR absorption spectroscopy. The zwitterionic telomer SAM in general did not adsorb proteins significantly, suggesting the usability of zwitterionic polymer SAMs and brushes to coat various materials used in biomedical fields. The correlation between the structure of water in the vicinity of zwitterionic telomers and the resistance of the zwitterionic telomer SAMs against the nonspecific adsorption of proteins was discussed.  相似文献

Synthesis of Sulfolenobilins and Their Cyclization Directed to Chlorinatozinc‐Fullerene Dyads A novel chlorinatozinc‐fullerene dyad 18 was synthesized to model the photosynthetic reaction center. The synthetic key step for the formation of the dyad 18 is an unusual one‐pot reaction of the (sulfolenobilinato)nickel rac‐ 16a , b with concomitant generation of the chlorin macrocycle and linkage to the [5,6]fullerene‐C60Ih. This one‐pot reaction is a complex cascade of single reaction steps with a total yield of 32% and an average yield of 83% for the individual steps. The chlorinatozinc‐fullerene dyad is so far one of three examples that contain chlorin moieties, the chromophores in naturally occurring photosynthetic systems.  相似文献

Self-assembled monolayers(SAMs) of thiol-derivatized porphyrin molecules on Au substrate have attracted extensively interest for use in sensing, optoelectronic devices and molecular electronics. In this paper,tetra-[p-(3-mercaptopropyloxy)-phenyl]porphyrin was synthesized and self-assembled with thiol on Au substrate for porphyrin SAMs(PPS 4).The electrochemical results demonstrated that PPS 4 could form excellent SAMs on gold surface.Self-assembled nanojunctions of PPS 4 were fabricated by using gold nanogap electrodes(gap width:ca.100 nm). With the light on/off,the nanojunctions showed current high/low as nanometer scaled photo switch.  相似文献

Chlorin e6 derivative and water-soluble dyad resulting from covalent bonding of polyanionic fullerene С60 derivative to chlorin e6 derivative were synthesized and studied for spectral properties and photochemical activity. A considerable change in the absorption spectra and pronounced fluorescence quenching for the chlorin moiety included in the dyad were identified. The singlet excited state of chlorin is quenched via electron transfer from the excited chlorin to the fullerene core. A comparison of the photochemical activities of the test compounds in aqueous solutions showed a tenfold increase in the photochemical activity of the chlorin–fullerene dyad compared with free chlorin per absorbed light quantum.  相似文献

Chlorins provide the basis for plant photosynthesis, but synthetic model systems have generally employed porphyrins as surrogates due to the unavailability of suitable chlorin building blocks. We have adapted a route pioneered by Battersby to gain access to chlorins that bear two meso substituents, a geminal dimethyl group to lock in the chlorin hydrogenation level, and no flanking meso and beta substituents. The synthesis involves convergent joining of an Eastern half and a Western half. A 3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydrodipyrrin (Western half) was synthesized in four steps from pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde. A bromodipyrromethane carbinol (Eastern half) was prepared by sequential acylation and bromination of a 5-substituted dipyrromethane followed by reduction. Chlorin formation is achieved by a two-flask process of acid-catalyzed condensation followed by metal-mediated oxidative cyclization. The latter reaction has heretofore been performed with copper templates. Investigation of conditions for this multistep process led to copper-free conditions (zinc acetate, AgIO(3), and piperidine in toluene at 80 degrees C for 2 h). The zinc chlorin was obtained in yields of approximately 10% and could be easily demetalated to give the corresponding free base chlorin. The synthetic process is compatible with a range of meso substituents (p-tolyl, mesityl, pentafluorophenyl, 4-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]phenyl, 4-iodophenyl). Altogether four free base and four zinc chlorins have been prepared. The chlorins exhibit typical absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, and fluorescence quantum yields. The ease of synthetic access, presence of appropriate substituents, and characteristic spectral features make these types of chlorins well suited for incorporation in synthetic model systems.  相似文献

Zinc 3-hydroxymethyl-13-formyl-chlorin, 1, and its 3,13-inverted (3-formyl-13-hydroxymethyl) regioisomer, 2, and their corresponding 17,18-dehydrogenated porphyrins, 3 and 4, were synthesized for models of natural bacteriochlorophylls-c/d/e possessing 3(1)-OH and 13-C=O groups which self-aggregate in main light-harvesting antenna systems of green photosynthetic bacteria. Zinc chlorins 1 and 2 were monomers in neat THF and gave an obvious difference in their visible absorption spectra, indicating that sole inversion of the 3- and 13-substituents in a chlorin chromophore controlled their optical properties. In an aqueous Triton X-100 solution (a nonionic surfactant), zinc 3(1)-OH-13-CHO-chlorin 1 and porphyrin 3 self-aggregated as do natural bacteriochlorophylls, while zinc 3-CHO-13(1)-OH chlorin 2 and porphyrin 4 (the 3,13-inverted regioisomers of 1 and 3) hardly formed such large oligomers, showing that the inversion of the peripheral 3,13-substituents made their oligomerization unfavorable. FT-IR spectra of aggregated 1-4 in the solid film and their molecular modeling calculations suggested that the 17(2)-C=O moiety in inverted 2/4 interacted with its own 13(1)-OH group to disturb further aggregation.  相似文献

The enantiomerically pure chlorins 19 and 21 were synthesised from tripyrrolic nickel complex rac-17 and pyrrole building blocks 12 and 16. The pyrroles are annelated with norbornane moieties which contain the chiral information as well as two different functionalities. The functional groups, namely a carboxylic acid ester and a carbonitrile group, of chlorin 21 finally allowed the formation of an amino acid functionality at the periphery of the macrotetracycle. By using principles of peptide chemistry, the two chlorin subunits were joined to form the peptide-linked chlorin-chlorin dyad 24, which mimics the molecular parts of the natural photosynthetic reaction centre.  相似文献
