A CO stretching frequency analysis is presented for the adsorption of CO on various Au(110) surfaces from density functional theory calculations. The structure sensitivity of the adsorption has been studied by considering the unreconstructed (1 x 1) surface, the missing-row reconstructed (1 x 2) surface, the vicinal stepped (20) surface, and the adsorption on adatoms deposited on the (110)-(1 x 2) surface. The calculated CO stretching frequencies are compared with infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) measurements carried out at room temperature and pressure below 1 atm. The overall stability of the systems is discussed within the calculations of surface free energies at various coverages. At room temperature, the adsorption of CO on the ridge of the missing-row reconstructed surface competes in the high pressure regime with more complex adsorption structures where the molecule coadsorbs on the ridge and on adatoms located along the empty troughs of the reconstruction. This result is supported by the CO stretching frequency analysis.  相似文献

The adsorption of nitric oxide (NO) on a Pt (111) surface modified with irreversible adsorbed bismuth adatoms is reported. While the voltammetric results reveal a close interaction between the two co-adsorbed compounds. In-situ infrared spectroscopy and scanning tunnelling microscopy indicate the formation of segregated adlayers. Formation of compressed Bi adlayers with modified redox properties is proposed to reconcile both results. This agrees with the observation of Bi islands in the STM images when NO is coadsorbed, not observed in the absence of NO.  相似文献

It is very important to understand metal-molecule interface characteristics for the development of efficient molecular wires in molecular electronics. Because isocyanide is potentially a good alligator clip, we have investigated in this work the adsorption characteristics of 2,6-dimethylphenylisocyanide (DMPI) on Au and Pt electrodes by recording the potential-dependent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra. First of all, we confirmed that Pt nanoaggregate films were efficient SERS-active substrates, not only in ambient conditions, but also in electrochemical environments. Second, we confirmed that aryl isocyanide should adsorb on Au and Pt by forming exclusively metal-CN bonds, via a pure sigma type interaction in the case of gold compared with a sigma/pi synergistic interaction on Pt. This implies that DMPI should adsorb on Au only via the on-top site, whereas not only the on-top site, but also the 2-fold bridge and 3-fold hollow sites, could be used in the surface adsorption of DMPI on Pt. Despite these differences, DMPI was assumed to possess a vertical orientation with respect to the Au and Pt substrates, irrespective of the potential variation between +0.2 and -0.6 V relative to the Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The latter characteristics of the Au-CN and Pt-CN combinations are presumed to be useful in designing molecular-scale wires.  相似文献

Time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF‐SIMS) has been used to perform a chemical analysis of long‐chain thiol (CH3(CH2)11SH)‐treated gold, silver, copper and platinum surfaces. All the mass peaks from positive and negative ion spectra within the range m/z = 0–2000 u are studied. ToF‐SIMS data revealed that on gold, silver and copper substrates 1‐dodecanethiol form dense standing‐up phases, but on platinum being a catalytically active substrate, we were able to identify also surface‐aligned parallel lying molecules in addition to a standing thiolate layer. Our study shows that when ToF‐SIMS spectra are analyzed, not only the existence of oligomers but also metal + hydrocarbon fragments give information about the order of SAM. Orientational order of surfactant micelles and proteins on crystalline templates has been observed but, given that the template unit cell is significantly smaller than the characteristic size of the adsorbate, this order cannot be attributed to lattice epitaxy. We interpret the template-directed orientation of rodlike molecular assemblies as arising from anisotropic van der Waals interactions between the assembly and crystalline surfaces where the anisotropic van der Waals interaction is calculated using the Lifshitz methodology. Provided the assembly is sufficiently large, substrate anisotropy provides a torque that overcomes rotational Brownian motion near the surface. The probability of a particular orientation is computed by solving a Smoluchowski equation that describes the balance between van der Waals and Brownian torques. Torque aligns both micelles and protein fibrils; the interaction energy is minimized when the assembly lies perpendicular to a symmetry axis of a crystalline substrate. Theoretical predictions agree with experiments for both hemi-cylindrical micelles and protein fibrils adsorbed on graphite.  相似文献

Crystal-face-selective adsorption of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) was achieved on polycrystalline boron-doped diamond (BDD) surface via the self-assembly method combined with a UV/ozone treatment. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of crystal-face-selective adsorption on an inorganic solid surface. Hydrogen-plasma-treated BDD samples and those followed by UV/ozone treatment for 2 min or longer showed almost no adsorption of AuNP after immersion in the AuNP solution prepared by the citrate reduction method. However, the samples treated by UV/ozone for 10 s showed AuNP adsorption on their (111) facets selectively after the immersion. Moreover, the sample treated with UV/ozone for 40-60 s showed AuNP adsorption on the whole surface. These results indicate that the AuNP adsorption behavior can be controlled by UV/ozone treatment time. This phenomenon was highly reproducible and was applied to a two-step adsorption method, where AuNPs from different batches were adsorbed on the (111) and (100) surface in this order. Our findings may be of great value for the fabrication of advanced nanoparticle-based functional materials via bottom-up approaches with simple macroscale procedures.  相似文献

Metalloporphyrin molecules have a wide range of potential applications in diverse technological areas ranging from electronics to optoelectronics, electrochemistry, photophysics, chemical sensors, and catalysis. In particular, self-assembled monolayers of porphyrin molecules have recently attracted considerable interest. In this work we have studied for the first time the self-assembly of a novel Cu deutero porphyrin functionalized with disulfide moieties using electrochemical techniques, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy, and photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS and UPS). Experimental results indicate that the molecule adsorbs retaining its molecular integrity without forming molecular aggregates via the formation of Au-S covalent bonds. Furthermore, the monolayer consists of a packed array of molecules adsorbed with the plane of the porphyrin molecule at an angle of around 30° with respect to the surface normal. Interestingly, adsorption induces reduction of the Cu center and its consequent removal from the center of the porphyrin ring resulting in porphyrin demetalation. Our results are important in the design of self-assembled monolayers of metallo porphyrins where not only blocking of the metal center by the functional groups that drive the self-assembly should be considered but also possible adsorption induced demetalation with the consequent loss in the properties imparted by the metal center.  相似文献

Understanding interactions between Nafion (perfluorosulfonic acid) and Pt catalysts is important for the development and deployment of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. However, study of such interactions is challenging and Nafion/Pt interfacial structure remains elusive. In this study, adsorption of Nafion ionomer on Au and Pt surfaces was investigated for the first time by in situ surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. The study is made possible by the use of uniform SiO(2)@Au core-shell particle arrays which provides very strong enhancement of Raman scattering. The high surface sensitivity offered by this approach yields insightful information on interfacial Nafion structure. Through spectral comparison of several model compounds, vibration assignments of SERS bands were made. The SER spectra suggest the direct interaction of sulfonate group with the metal surfaces, in accord with cyclic voltammetric results. Comparison of present SERS results with previous IR spectra was briefly made.  相似文献

We have used primarily temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) to investigate CO adsorption on a Au(211) stepped single-crystal surface. The Au(211) surface can be described as a step-terrace structure consisting of three-atom-wide terraces of (111) orientation and a monatomic step with a (100) orientation, or 3(111) x (100) in microfacet notation. CO was only weakly adsorbed but was more strongly bound at step sites (12 kcal mol(-1)) than at terrace sites (6.5-9 kcal mol(-1)). The sticking coefficient of CO on the Au(211) surface was also higher ( approximately 5x) during occupation of step sites compared to populating terrace sites at higher coverages. The nu(CO) stretching band energy in IRAS spectra indicated that CO was adsorbed at atop sites at all coverages and conditions. A small red shift of nu(CO) from 2126 to 2112 cm(-1) occurred with increasing CO coverage on the surface. We conclude that the presence of these particular step sites at the Au(211) surface imparts stronger CO bonding and a higher reactivity than on the flat Au(111) surface, but these changes are not remarkable compared to chemistry on other more reactive crystal planes or other stepped Au surfaces. Thus, it is unlikely that the presence or absence of this particular crystal plane alone at the surface of supported Au nanoparticles has much to do with the remarkable properties of highly active Au catalysts.  相似文献

The adsorption of phenol on flat and stepped Pt and Rh surfaces and the dissociation of hydrogen from the hydroxyl group of phenol on Pt(111) and Rh(111) were studied by density functional calculations. On both Pt(111) and Rh(111), phenol adsorbs with the aromatic ring parallel to the surface and the hydroxyl group tilted away from the surface. Furthermore, adsorption on stepped surfaces was concluded to be unfavourable compared to the (111) surfaces due to the repulsion of the hydroxyl group from the step edges. Transition state calculations revealed that the reaction barriers, associated with the dissociation of phenol into phenoxy, are almost identical on Pt and Rh. Furthermore, the oxygen in the dissociated phenol is strongly attracted by Rh(111), while it is repelled by Pt(111).  相似文献

The CO adsorption on ordered Cu-Pd alloy surfaces and surface alloys has been studied using density functional theory (DFT) within the framework of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). On the surface alloys, the CO adsorption energy at the top sites decreases with increasing concentration of the more reactive metal Pd. This surprising ligand effect is caused by the effective compressive strain induced by the larger size of the Pd atoms. On the other hand, at the most favorable adsorption sites the CO binding becomes stronger with increasing Pd concentration which is caused by an ensemble effect related to the availability of higher coordinated adsorption sites. At the surfaces of the bulk alloys, the trends in the adsorption energy as a function of the Pd concentration are less clear because of the strong Pd-Cu interaction and the absence of effective strain effects.  相似文献

Sum frequency generation (SFG) surface vibrational spectroscopy and kinetic measurements using gas chromatography have identified at least two reaction pathways for benzene hydrogenation on the Pt(100) and Pt(111) single-crystal surfaces at Torr pressures. Kinetic studies at low temperatures (310-370 K) show that benzene hydrogenation does not proceed through cyclohexene. A Langmuir-Hinshelwood-type rate law for the low-temperature reaction pathway is identified. The rate-determining step for this pathway is the addition of the first hydrogen atom to adsorbed benzene for both single-crystal surfaces, which is verified by the spectroscopic observation of adsorbed benzene at low temperatures on both the Pt(100) and Pt(111) crystal faces. Low-temperature SFG studies reveal chemisorbed and physisorbed benzene on both surfaces. At higher temperatures (370-440 K), hydrogenation of benzene to pi-allyl c-C(6)H(9) is observed only on the Pt(100) surface. Previous single-crystal studies have identified pi-allyl c-C(6)H(9) as the rate-determining step for cyclohexene hydrogenation to cyclohexane.  相似文献

Adsorption of CO on Pt(100), Pt(410), and Pt(110) surfaces has been investigated by density functional theory (DFT) method (periodic DMol(3)) with full geometry optimization and without symmetry restriction. Adsorption energies, structures, and vibrational frequencies of CO on these surfaces are studied by considering multiple possible adsorption sites and comparing them with the experimental data. The same site preference as inferred experiments is obtained for all the surfaces. For Pt(100), CO adsorbs at the bridge site at low coverage, but the atop site becomes most favorable for the c(2 x 2) structure at 1/2 monolayer. For Pt(410) (stepped surface with (100) terrace and (110) step), CO adsorbs preferentially at the atop site on the step edge at 1/4 monolayer, but CO populates also at other atop and bridge sites on the (100) terrace at 1/2 monolayer. The multiple possible adsorption sites probably correspond to the multiple states in the temperature-programmed desorption spectra for CO desorption. For Pt(110), CO adsorbs preferentially at the atop site on the edge for both the reconstructed (1 x 2) and the un-reconstructed (1 x 1) surfaces. When adjacent sites along the edge row begin to be occupied, the CO molecules tilt alternately by ca. 20 degrees from the surface normal in opposite directions for both the (1 x 2) and (1 x 1) surfaces.  相似文献

The adsorption and thermal chemistry of (S)-(+)-2-methylbutanoic acid ((S)-2MBA) on Pt(111) single-crystal surfaces was characterized by using temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and reflection-adsorption infrared (RAIRS) spectroscopies. Particular emphasis was placed on the characterization of the chiral superstructures formed upon the deposition of the submonolayer coverages of enantiopure (S)-2-methylbutanoate species that are produced by thermal dehydrogenation of the (S)-2MBA. The enantioselectivity of the empty platinum sites left open on those structures were identified by their difference in behavior toward the adsorption of the two enantiomers of propylene oxide. It was found that a significant enhancement in adsorption is possible on surfaces with the same chirality of the probe molecule, specifically that the uptake of (S)-propylene oxide is larger than that of (R)-propylene oxide on (S)-2-methylbutanoate adsorbed layers. This contrasts with the lack of enantioselectivity previously reported for the same adsorbate on Pd(111). Detectable differences in adsorption energetics of (R)- vs (S)-propylene oxide on the (S)-2-methylbutanoate/Pt(111) overlayers were measured but deemed not to be the controlling factor in the enantioselectivity reported in this system.  相似文献

The vibrational spectra of CO adsorbed on Ru-modified Pt(100) surfaces prepared by chemical vapor deposition (condensation of Ru(3)(CO)(12) at 105 K followed by X-ray irradiation and thermal decomposition at 650 K in ultrahigh vacuum, UHV) was investigated by time-resolved infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) in UHV. Spectra were recorded while Ru/Pt(100) bimetallic surfaces (theta(Ru) = 0.24 and 0.52 by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, XPS) were dosed with gas-phase CO. Analysis of the data revealed that for a wide range of calibrated CO exposures, the linear CO-stretching region displays two features: a higher energy peak (2085-2100 cm(-1)), attributed to CO adsorbed on pristine Pt(100) sites, and a lower energy peak (2066-2092 cm(-1)), ascribed to adsorption of CO on sites on the surface induced by the presence of Ru. Similar experiments were performed on bimetallic specimens annealed repeatedly in UHV to 650 K to promote partial Ru dissolution into the lattice and thus render surfaces gradually enriched in Pt. For all surfaces and CO exposures examined, the total integrated area under the two CO spectral features remained fairly constant and equal in value to the corresponding areas found for bare Pt(100). If it is assumed that a fixed exposure leads to a fixed coverage on both bare and Ru-modified Pt(100)surfaces, and the thermal treatment leads to an exchange of Ru by Pt sites without altering significantly the total number of metal sites on the surface, the absorption cross sections for both of these peaks are virtually the same.  相似文献
