We analyse the evolution of a system of finite faults by considering the non‐linear eigenvalue problems associated to static and dynamic solutions on unbounded domains. We restrict our investigation to the first eigenvalue (Rayleigh quotient). We point out its physical significance through a stability analysis and we give an efficient numerical algorithm able to compute it together with the corresponding eigenfunction. We consider the anti‐plane shearing on a system of finite faults under a slip‐dependent friction in a linear elastic domain, not necessarily bounded. The static problem is formulated in terms of local minima of the energy functional. We introduce the non‐linear (static) eigenvalue problem and we prove the existence of a first eigenvalue/eigenfunction characterizing the isolated local minima. For the dynamic problem, we discuss the existence of solutions with an exponential growth, to deduce a (dynamic) non‐linear eigenvalue problem. We prove the existence of a first dynamic eigenvalue and we analyse its behaviour with respect to the friction parameter. We deduce a mixed finite element discretization of the non‐linear spectral problem and we give a numerical algorithm to approach the first eigenvalue/eigenfunction. Finally we give some numerical results which include convergence tests, on a single fault and a two‐faults system, and a comparison between the non‐linear spectral results and the time evolution results. We investigate nonlinear pseudodifferential equations with infinitely many derivatives. These are equations of a new class, and they originally appeared in p-adic string theory. Their investigation is of interest in mathematical physics and its applications, in particular, in string theory and cosmology. We undertake a systematic mathematical investigation of the properties of these equations and prove the main uniqueness theorem for the solution in an algebra of generalized functions. We discuss boundary problems for bounded solutions and prove the existence theorem for spatially homogeneous solutions for odd p. For even p, we prove the absence of a continuous nonnegative solution interpolating between two vacuums and indicate the possible existence of discontinuous solutions. We also consider the multidimensional equation and discuss soliton and q-brane solutions.  相似文献

This paper applies Nevanlinna theory of value distribution to discuss existence of solutions of certain types of non‐linear differential‐difference equations such as (5) and (8) given in the succeeding paragraphs. Existence of solutions of differential equations and difference equations can be said to have been well studied, that of differential‐difference equations, on the other hand, have been paid little attention. Such mixed type equations have great significance in applications. This paper, in particular, generalizes the Rellich–Wittich‐type theorem and Malmquist‐type theorem about differential equations to the case of differential‐difference equations. We consider a two‐component Camassa–Holm system which arises in shallow water theory. We analyze a wave breaking mechanism and the global existence of solutions. First, we discuss the local well posedness and a blow up mechanism, then establish some new blow up criteria for this system formulated either on the line or with space‐periodic initial conditions. We present several new existence results for a Volterra integral equation with infinite delay. We discuss periodic and bounded solutions. Sufficient conditions for the existence of positive periodic solutions are also provided. The techniques we employ have not been used for this equation before. In this article, we primarily focuses to study the order‐reduction for the classical natural boundary element (NBE) method for the two‐dimensional (2D) hyperbolic equation in unbounded domain. To this end, we first build a semi‐discretized format about time for the hyperbolic equation and discuss the existence, stability, and convergence of the time semi‐discretized solutions. We then establish the classical fully discretized NBE format from the time semi‐discretized one and analyze the existence, stability, and convergence of the classical NBE solutions. Next, using proper orthogonal decomposition method, we build a reduced‐order extrapolated NBE (ROENBE) format containing very few unknowns but having adequately high accuracy, and we also discuss the existence, stability, and convergence of the ROENBE solutions. Finally, we use some numerical examples to show that the ROENBE method is far superior to the classical NBE one. It shows that the ROENBE method is reliable and effective for solving the 2D hyperbolic equation with the unbounded domain.  相似文献

In this paper, we first establish some user‐friendly versions of fixed‐point theorems for the sum of two operators in the setting that the involved operators are not necessarily compact and continuous. These fixed‐point results generalize, encompass, and complement a number of previously known generalizations of the Krasnoselskii fixed‐point theorem. Next, with these obtained fixed‐point results, we study the existence of solutions for a class of transport equations, the existence of global solutions for a class of Darboux problems on the first quadrant, the existence and/or uniqueness of periodic solutions for a class of difference equations, and the existence and/or uniqueness of solutions for some kind of perturbed Volterra‐type integral equations. In this paper we study travelling wave solutions to a system of four non‐linear partial differential equations, which arise in a tissue interaction model for skin morphogenesis. Under the ‘small‐stress’ assumption we prove the existence and uniqueness (up to a translation) of solutions with the dermis and epidermis cell densities being positive, which are a perturbation of a uniform epidermal cell density. Here we discuss three-dimensional so-called basic and mixed boundary value problems (BVP) for steady state oscillations of piecewise homogeneous anisotropic bodies imbedded into an infinite elastic continuum. Uniqueness is shown with the help of generalized Sommerfeld–Kupradze radiation conditions, while existence follows for arbitrary values of the oscillation parameter by the reduction of the original interface transmission BVPs to equivalent uniquely solvable boundary integral or pseudodifferential equations on the interfaces. For the basic BVPs, we show classical regularity and, in addition for the mixed BVPs that the solutions are Hölder continuous with exponent α ∈ (0, 1/2) in the neighbourhood of the curves of discontinuity of the boundary and transmission conditions.  相似文献

We consider a class of degenerate parabolic equaitons on a bounded domain with mixed boundary conditions. These problems arise, for example, in the study of flow through porous media. Under appropriate hypotheses, we establish the existence of a nonegative solution which is obtainable as a monotone limit of solutions of quasilinear parabolic equations. The present paper deals with the mixed boundary value problem for elliptic equations with degenerate rank 0. We first give the formulation of the problem and estimates of solutions of the problem, and then prove the existence of solutions of the above problem for elliptic equations by the above estimates and the method of parameter extension. We present an H1‐Galerkin mixed finite element method for a nonlinear parabolic equation, which models a compressible fluid flow process in subsurface porous media. The method possesses the advantages of mixed finite element methods while avoiding directly inverting the permeability tensor, which is important especially in a low permeability zone. A finite‐volume scheme for the stationary unipolar quantum drift‐diffusion equations for semiconductors in several space dimensions is analyzed. The model consists of a fourth‐order elliptic equation for the electron density, coupled to the Poisson equation for the electrostatic potential, with mixed Dirichlet‐Neumann boundary conditions. The numerical scheme is based on a Scharfetter‐Gummel type reformulation of the equations. The existence of a sequence of solutions to the discrete problem and its numerical convergence to a solution to the continuous model are shown.
