In this article, supposing that the velocity, pressure, and temperature are approximated by the elements , and applying the orthogonal projection technique, we introduce two Gauss integrations as a stabilizing term in the common variational multiscale (VMS) method and derive a new VMS (Two Gauss VMS) method for steady‐state natural convection problem. Comparing with the common VMS method, the Two Gauss VMS method does not need to introduce any extra variable and reduces the degrees of freedom of the discrete system a lot, but gets the same stabilized result. The effectiveness and stability of the Two Gauss VMS method are further demonstrated through two numerical examples. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a two‐level variational multiscale method for incompressible flows based on two local Gauss integrations is presented. We solve the Navier–Stokes problem on a coarse mesh using finite element variational multiscale method based on two local Gauss integrations, then seek a fine grid solution by solving a linearized problem on a fine grid. In computation, we use the two local Gauss integrations to replace the projection operator without adding any variables. Stability analysis is performed, and error estimates of the method are derived. Finally, a series of numerical experiments are also given, which confirm the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the efficiency of the new method. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a decoupled two grid finite element method (FEM) is proposed and analyzed for the nonsteady natural convection problem using the coarse grid numerical solutions to decouple the nonlinear coupled terms, and the corresponding optimal error estimates are derived. Compared with the standard Galerkin FEM and the usual two‐grid FEM, our algorithm not only keeps good accuracy but also saves a lot of computational cost. Some numerical examples are provided to verify the performances of the decoupled two‐grid FEM. Both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments show the efficiency and effectiveness of the decoupled two‐grid FEM for the nonsteady natural convection problem. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work presents a variational multiscale method based on polynomial bubble functions as subgrid scale and a numerical implementation based on two local Gauss integrations. This method can be implemented easily and efficiently for the convection-dominated problem. Static condensation of the bubbles suggests the stability of the method and we establish its global convergence. Representative numerical tests are presented.  相似文献

We formulate a subgrid eddy viscosity method for solving the steady‐state incompressible flow problem. The eddy viscosity does not act on the large flow structures. Optimal error estimates are obtained for velocity and pressure. The numerical illustrations agree completely with the theoretical results. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we analyze a quadratic equal‐order stabilized finite element approximation for the incompressible Stokes equations based on two local Gauss integrations. Our method only offsets the discrete pressure gradient space by the residual of the simple and symmetry term at element level to circumvent the inf‐sup condition. And this method does not require specification of a stabilization parameter, and always leads to a symmetric linear system. Furthermore, this method is unconditionally stable, and can be implemented at the element level with minimal additional cost. Finally, we give some numerical simulations to show good stability and accuracy properties of the method. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2010  相似文献

A combined method consisting of mixed finite element method (MFEM) for the pressure equation and expanded mixed finite element method with characteristics(CEMFEM) for the concentration equation is presented to solve the coupled system of incompressible miscible displacement problem. To solve the resulting nonlinear system of equations efficiently, the two‐grid algorithm relegates all of the Newton‐like iterations to grids much coarser than the original one, with no loss in order of accuracy. It is shown that coarse space can be extremely coarse and our algorithm achieve asymptotically optimal approximation when the mesh sizes satisfy H = O ( h 1 4 ) . Numerical experiment is provided to confirm our theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Crank‐Nicolson extrapolation scheme for the 2D/3D unsteady natural convection problem. Our numerical scheme includes the implicit Crank‐Nicolson scheme for linear terms and the recursive linear method for nonlinear terms. Standard Galerkin finite element method is used to approximate the spatial discretization. Stability and optimal error estimates are provided for the numerical solutions. Furthermore, a fully discrete two‐grid Crank‐Nicolson extrapolation scheme is developed, the corresponding stability and convergence results are derived for the approximate solutions. Comparison from aspects of the theoretical results and computational efficiency, the two‐grid Crank‐Nicolson extrapolation scheme has the same order as the one grid method for velocity and temperature in H1‐norm and for pressure in L2‐norm. However, the two‐grid scheme involves much less work than one grid method. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to verify the established theoretical results and illustrate the performances of the developed numerical schemes.  相似文献

A two‐grid stabilized mixed finite element method based on pressure projection stabilization is proposed for the two‐dimensional Darcy‐Forchheimer model. We use the derivative of a smooth function, , to approximate the derivative of in constructing the two‐grid algorithm. The two‐grid method consists of solving a small nonlinear system on the coarse mesh and then solving a linear system on the fine mesh. There are a substantial reduction in computational cost. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solution of the discrete schemes on the coarse grid and the fine grid and obtain error estimates for the two‐grid algorithm. Finally, some numerical experiments are carried out to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the method.  相似文献

A finite element variational multiscale method based on two local Gauss integrations is applied to solve numerically the time‐dependent incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. A significant feature of the method is that the definition of the stabilization term is derived via two local Guass integrations at element level, making it more efficient than the usual projection‐based variational multiscale methods. It is computationally cheap and gives an accurate approximation to the quantities sought. Based on backward Euler and Crank–Nicolson schemes for temporal discretization, we derive error bounds of the fully discrete solution which are first and second order in time, respectively. Numerical tests are also given to verify the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present a scheme for solving two‐dimensional, nonlinear reaction‐diffusion equations, using a mixed finite‐element method. To linearize the mixed‐method equations, we use a two grid scheme that relegates all the Newton‐like iterations to a grid ΔH much coarser than the original one Δh, with no loss in order of accuracy so long as the mesh sizes obey . The use of a multigrid‐based solver for the indefinite linear systems that arise at each coarse‐grid iteration, as well as for the similar system that arises on the fine grid, allows for even greater efficiency. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two‐grid variational multiscale (VMS) algorithms for the incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations with friction boundary conditions are presented in this article. First, one‐grid VMS algorithm is used to solve this problem and some error estimates are derived. Then, two‐grid VMS algorithms are proposed and analyzed. The algorithms consist of nonlinear problem on coarse grid and linearized problem (Stokes problem or Oseen problem) on fine grid. Moreover, the stability and convergence of the present algorithms are established. Finally, Numerical results are shown to confirm the theoretical analysis. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The paper presents finite element error estimates of a variational multiscale method (VMS) for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The constants in these estimates do not depend on the Reynolds number but on a reduced Reynolds number or on the mesh size of a coarse mesh. We develop a variational multiscale proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) reduced‐order model (ROM) for turbulent incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations. Under two assumptions on the underlying finite element approximation and the generation of the POD basis, the error analysis of the full discretization of the ROM is presented. All error contributions are considered: the spatial discretization error (due to the finite element discretization), the temporal discretization error (due to the backward Euler method), and the POD truncation error. Numerical tests for a three‐dimensional turbulent flow past a cylinder at Reynolds number show the improved physical accuracy of the new model over the standard Galerkin and mixing‐length POD ROMs. The high computational efficiency of the new model is also showcased. Finally, the theoretical error estimates are confirmed by numerical simulations of a two‐dimensional Navier‐Stokes problem. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A two‐grid finite volume element method, combined with the modified method of characteristics, is presented and analyzed for semilinear time‐dependent advection‐dominated diffusion equations in two space dimensions. The solution of a nonlinear system on the fine‐grid space (with grid size h) is reduced to the solution of two small (one linear and one nonlinear) systems on the coarse‐grid space (with grid size H) and a linear system on the fine‐grid space. An optimal error estimate in H1 ‐norm is obtained for the two‐grid method. It shows that the two‐grid method achieves asymptotically optimal approximation, as long as the mesh sizes satisfy h = O(H2). Numerical example is presented to validate the usefulness and efficiency of the method. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

A conservative two‐grid finite element scheme is presented for the two‐dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. One Newton iteration is applied on the fine grid to linearize the fully discrete problem using the coarse‐grid solution as the initial guess. Moreover, error estimates are conducted for the two‐grid method. It is shown that the coarse space can be extremely coarse, with no loss in the order of accuracy, and still achieve the asymptotically optimal approximation as long as the mesh sizes satisfy in the two‐grid method. The numerical results show that this method is very effective.  相似文献

In this paper, we will investigate a two grid finite element discretization method for the semi‐linear hyperbolic integro‐differential equations by piecewise continuous finite element method. In order to deal with the semi‐linearity of the model, we use the two grid technique and derive that once the coarse and fine mesh sizes H, h satisfy the relation h = H2 for the two‐step two grid discretization method, the two grid method achieves the same convergence accuracy as the ordinary finite element method. Both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments are given to verify the results.  相似文献

Based on fully overlapping domain decomposition and a recent variational multiscale method, a parallel finite element variational multiscale method for convection dominated incompressible flows is proposed and analyzed. In this method, each processor computes a local finite element solution in its own subdomain using a global mesh that is locally refined around its own subdomain, where a stabilization term based on two local Gauss integrations is adopted to stabilize the numerical form of the Navier–Stokes equations. Using the technical tool of local a priori estimate for the finite element solution, error bounds of the discrete solution are estimated. Algorithmic parameter scalings are derived. Numerical tests are also given to verify the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We formulate a projection-based stabilization finite element technique for solving steady-state natural convection problems. In particular, we consider heat transport through combined solid and fluid media. This stabilization does not act on the large flow structures. Based on the projection stabilization idea, finite element error analysis of the problem is investigated and optimal errors for the velocity, temperature and pressure are established. We also present some numerical tests which both verify the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the method?s promise.  相似文献

Based on two‐grid discretizations, a two‐parameter stabilized finite element method for the steady incompressible Navier–Stokes equations at high Reynolds numbers is presented and studied. In this method, a stabilized Navier–Stokes problem is first solved on a coarse grid, and then a correction is calculated on a fine grid by solving a stabilized linear problem. The stabilization term for the nonlinear Navier–Stokes equations on the coarse grid is based on an elliptic projection, which projects higher‐order finite element interpolants of the velocity into a lower‐order finite element interpolation space. For the linear problem on the fine grid, either the same stabilization approach (with a different stabilization parameter) as that for the coarse grid problem or a completely different stabilization approach could be employed. Error bounds for the discrete solutions are estimated. Algorithmic parameter scalings of the method are also derived. The theoretical results show that, with suitable scalings of the algorithmic parameters, this method can yield an optimal convergence rate. Numerical results are provided to verify the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
