Summary For a commutative cancellative semigroup S, we define the rank of S intrinsically. This definition implies that the rank of S equals the usual rank of its group of quotients. We also characterize the rank in terms of embeddability into a rational vector space of the greatest power cancellative image of S.  相似文献

Given a metrizable compact convex setX of a locally convex Hausdorff space, a positive projectionT:C(X, )C(X, ) and a continuous function :X[0, 1], it is shown that under suitable assumptions there exists a positive contraction semigroup onC(X, ) that can be represented in terms of the Lototsky-Schnabl operators associated withT and . Several properties of this semigroup are investigated. In particular, its infinitesimal generator is determined in a core of its domain. Let S be a cancellative semigroup which is a semilattice of left reversible semigroups S, . This article studies the relationship between the group of quotients G of S and the groups of quotients G of S, . It is shown that G is the maximum group homomorphic image of an inverse semigroup which is a semilattice of groups G (up to isomorphism).The technique used here which involves the use of Ore's quotients also applies to the study of the maximum group homomorphic image of a semigroup which is a semilattice of inverse semigroups.  相似文献

Consider a closed subgroup of the automorphism group of a homogeneous treeT, and assume that acts transitively on the vertex set. Suppose that is a probability measure on which has continuous density with respect to Haar measure and whose support is compact open and generates as a closed semigroup. It is shown that the Martin boundary of with respect to the random walk with law coincides with the space of ends ofT. This extends known results for free groups and applies, for example, to the affine group over a non archimedean local field.  相似文献

In this paper, it is proved that the Boolean centre of a semigroup S with sufficiently many commuting idempotents is isomorphic to the inverse limit of the directed family of Birkhoff centres (or Boolean centres) of a class of bounded semigroups. The Birkhoff centre is defined for any poset and proved that it is a relatively complemented distributive lattice whenever it is nonempty. It is observed that for a semilattice S, the Birkhoff centres as a semigroup and as a poset coincide. Also it is observed that for a Lattice (L, , ), the Birkhoff centres of the semilattices (L, ) and (L, ) coincide with the Birkhoff centre of L. The paper is a study of the limiting behaviour of the [n t]-th iterates of the well-known Post-Widder operatorsL n, x used in the real inversion of the Laplace transform. It is shown that the limiting operators constitute a semigroup T t;t0 of class (C 0) on a family C ,; , >0 of Banach spaces. We consider a general class of singularly perturbed delay differential systems depending on a singular parameter and another parameter . For =0, the equation defines a mapT which undergoes a generic period doubling at =0. If the bifurcation is supercritical (subcritical), these period two points define a stable period two square wave (unstable period two pulse wave). We discuss the structure of the Weierstrass semigroup at a pair of points on an algebraic curve. It is known that the Weierstrass semigroup at a pair (P, Q) contains the unique generating subset (P, Q). We find some characterizations of the elements of (P, Q) and prove that, for any point P on a curve, (P, Q) consists of only maximal elements for all except for finitely many points QP on the given curve. Also we obtain more results concerning special and nonspecial pairs.  相似文献

In 1986, Kowol and Mitsch studied properties of the so-called natural partial order on T(X), the total transformation semigroup defined on a set X. In particular, they determined when two total transformations are related under this order, and they described the minimal and maximal elements of (T(X), ). In the framework of the theory of D. Kendall's delphic semigroups are considered problems of divisibility in the semigroup of convex characteristic functions on the semiaxis (0,). Letn ()={:1¦11 or 1=}, and Io()={: 1¦ 1 N()}. The following results are proved: 1) The semigroup is almost delphic in the sense of R. A tower in an ordered set (X, ) is defined to be a subsetS ofX which has the property that for everysS there is a maximal chainC in {xX|xs} which is wholly contained inS. An ordered set (X, ) is called tower-homogeneous if every order isomorphism between towers in (X, ) can be extended to an automorphism of (X, ).
