An elliptic boundary-value problem on a domain with prescribedDirichlet data on I is approximated using a finite-elementspace of approximation power hK in the L2 norm. When is a polyhedron, an O(h2K2)approximation is given. We use these results to study the finite-elementapproximation of elliptic equations when the prescribed boundarydata on I is the total flux.

We consider a reformulation of the unilateral obstacle problem presented by the authors (Addou and Mermri in Math-Rech. Appl.
2:59–69, 2000). This reformulation introduces a continuous function, whose subdifferential characterizes the noncontact domain. Our goal
in this paper is to give a numerical approximation of the solution of the reformulated problem. We consider discretization
of the problem based on finite element method. Then we prove the convergence of the approximate solution to the exact one.

The continuous casting Stefan problem is a mathematical model describing the solidification with convection of a material being cast continuously with a prescribed velocity. We propose a practical piecewise linear finite element scheme motivated by the characteristic finite element method and derive an error estimate for the scheme which is of the same convergence order as that proved for Stefan problem without convection. 相似文献

We consider the problem of a self-consistent determination of an essentially inhomogeneous equilibrium state of classical plasma. The solutions of the stationary Vlasov–Poisson equations are constructed in the form of a localized transition layer that separates the domains of homogeneous plasmas with different equilibrium parameters. The layer can also transform into a local perturbation inside a homogeneous plasma. In both cases, the solution contains neither mass currents nor electric currents, and all electrodynamic and hydrodynamic quantities and their derivatives are continuous. The parameters of the adjacent domains uniquely determine the transition layer structure. 相似文献

We consider a family of models that arise in connection with sharp change in hazard rate corresponding to high initial hazard rate dropping to a more stable or slowly changing rate at an unknown change-point . Although the Bayes estimates are well behaved and are asymptotically efficient, it is difficult to compute them as the posterior distributions are generally very complicated. We obtain a simple first order asymptotic approximation to the posterior distribution of . The accuracy of the approximation is judged through simulation. The approximation performs quite well. We consider a nonstandard elliptic eigenvalue problem of second order on a two-component domain consisting of two intervals with a contact point. The interaction between the two domains is expressed through a coupling condition of nonlocal type, more specifically, in integral form. The problem under consideration is first stated in its variational form and next interpreted as a second-order differential eigenvalue problem. The aim is to set up a finite element method for this problem. The error analysis involved is shown to be affected by the nonlocal condition, which requires a suitable modification of the vector Lagrange interpolant on the overall finite element mesh. Nevertheless, we arrive at optimal error estimates. In the last section, an illustrative numerical example is given, which confirms the theoretical results. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider a reverse convex programming problem constrained by a convex set and a reverse convex set, which is defined by the complement of the interior of a compact convex set X. We propose an inner approximation method to solve the problem in the case where X is not necessarily a polytope. The algorithm utilizes an inner approximation of X by a sequence of polytopes to generate relaxed problems. It is shown that every accumulation point of the sequence of optimal solutions of the relaxed problems is an optimal solution of the original problem. 相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new iterative method based on the hybrid viscosity approximation method for finding a common element of the set of solutions of a general system of variational inequalities, an equilibrium problem, and the set of common fixed points of a countable family of nonexpansive mappings in a Hilbert space. We prove a strong convergence theorem of the proposed iterative scheme under some suitable conditions on the parameters. Furthermore, we apply our main result for W-mappings. Finally, we give two numerical results to show the consistency and accuracy of the scheme. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of finding the initial distribution for the linear inhomogeneous and nonlinear biparabolic equation. The problem is severely ill-posed in the sense of Hadamard. First, we apply a general filter method to regularize the linear nonhomogeneous problem. Then, we also give a regularized solution and consider the convergence between the regularized solution and the sought solution. Under the a priori assumption on the exact solution belonging to a Gevrey space, we consider a generalized nonlinear problem by using the Fourier truncation method to obtain rigorous convergence estimates in the norms on Hilbert space and Hilbert scale space. 相似文献

Wills has shown that there exist irrational numbers α1,..., αn and real numbers β1,..., β1 with max1≤i≤n ‖qαi-βi‖ > 1/2 – 1/2n for all integers q (‖·‖ denotes the distance to the nearest integer). His example is αi = α and βi = i/n + δ, δ suitably chosen. Beyond that, he asked if αi can be found with pairwise different ‖αi‖.
