The oxidation reaction of M(tpfc) [M = Mn or Cr and tpfc = tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrole] with aryl azides under photolytic or thermal conditions gives the first examples of mononuclear imido complexes of manganese(V) and chromium(V). These complexes have been characterized by NMR, mass spectrometry, UV-vis, EPR, elemental analysis, and cyclic voltammetry. Two X-ray structures have been obtained for Mn(tpfc)(NMes) and Cr(tpfc)(NMes) [Mes = 2,4,6-(CH(3))(3)C(6)H(2)]. Short metal-imido bonds (1.610 and 1.635 Angstroms) as well as nearly linear M-N-C angles are consistent with triple M triple-bond NR bond formation. The kinetics of nitrene [NR] group transfer from manganese(V) corroles to various organic phosphines have been defined. Reduction of the manganese(V) corrolato complex affords phosphine imine and Mn(III) with reaction rates that are sensitive to steric and electronic elements of the phosphine substrate. An analogous manganese complex with a variant corrole ligand containing bromine atoms in the beta-pyrrole positions, Mn(Br(8)tpfc)(NAr), has been prepared and studied. Its reaction with PEt(3) is 250x faster than that of the parent tpfc complex, and its Mn(V/IV) couple is shifted by 370 mV to a more positive potential. The EPR spectra of chromium(V) imido corroles reveal a rich signal at ambient temperature consistent with Cr(V) triple-bond NR (d(1), S = 1/2) containing a localized spin density in the d(xy) orbital, and an anisotropic signal at liquid nitrogen temperature. Our results demonstrate the synthetic utility of organic aryl azides in the preparation of mononuclear metal imido complexes previously considered elusive, and suggest strong sigma-donation as the underlying factor in stabilizing high-valent metals by corrole ligands.  相似文献

The pump-probe polarization anisotropy is computed for molecules with a nondegenerate ground state, two degenerate or nearly degenerate excited states with perpendicular transition dipoles, and no resonant excited-state absorption. Including finite pulse effects, the initial polarization anisotropy at zero pump-probe delay is predicted to be r(0) = 3/10 with coherent excitation. During pulse overlap, it is shown that the four-wave mixing classification of signal pathways as ground or excited state is not useful for pump-probe signals. Therefore, a reclassification useful for pump-probe experiments is proposed, and the coherent anisotropy is discussed in terms of a more general transition dipole and molecular axis alignment instead of experiment-dependent ground- versus excited-state pathways. Although coherent excitation enhances alignment of the transition dipole, the molecular axes are less aligned than for a single dipole transition, lowering the initial anisotropy. As the splitting between excited states increases beyond the laser bandwidth and absorption line width, the initial anisotropy increases from 3/10 to 4/10. Asymmetric vibrational coordinates that lift the degeneracy control the electronic energy gap and off-diagonal coupling between electronic states. These vibrations dephase coherence and equilibrate the populations of the (nearly) degenerate states, causing the anisotropy to decay (possibly with oscillations) to 1/10. Small amounts of asymmetric inhomogeneity (2 cm(-1)) cause rapid (130 fs) suppression of both vibrational and electronic anisotropy beats on the excited state, but not vibrational beats on the ground electronic state. Recent measurements of conical intersection dynamics in a silicon napthalocyanine revealed anisotropic quantum beats that had to be assigned to asymmetric vibrations on the ground electronic state only [Farrow, D. A.; J. Chem. Phys. 2008, 128, 144510]. Small environmental asymmetries likely explain the observed absence of excited-state asymmetric vibrations in those experiments.  相似文献

The origin band in the electronic transition to the dipole bound excited state of C(5)H(D)(-) anions was measured using two-color photodetachment spectroscopy. The rotational analysis of the partially resolved contour is consistent with a linear structure of the anion in both the ground X(3)Σ(-) and excited A(3)Π electronic states, in contrast with an earlier interpretation. The following spectroscopic constants are inferred for C(5)H(-): T(00) = 19248.0(1), B' = 0.0835(1), B' = 0.0826(2), A'(SO) = -11.96(1), λ(SS)' = 1.97(8) λ(SS)' = 0.24(15). Ab initio calculations at the UHF-MP2 level support the conclusion that C(5)H(-) is linear in the ground state. The experimentally determined ground state rotational constant can be used in the search for the millimeter wave spectrum of C(5)H(-).  相似文献

Introducing substituents in the 6‐position of the 2‐pyridyl rings of tris(pyridyl)aluminate anions, of the type [EtAl(2‐py′)3]? (py′=a substituted 2‐pyridyl group), has a large impact on their metal coordination characteristics. This is seen most remarkably in the desolvation of the THF solvate [EtAl(6‐Me‐2‐py)3Li?THF] to give the monomer [EtAl(6‐Me‐2‐py)3Li] ( 1 ), containing a pyramidal, three‐coordinate Li+ cation. Similar monomeric complexes are observed for [EtAl(6‐CF3‐2‐py)3Li] ( 2 ) and [EtAl(6‐Br‐2‐py)3Li] ( 3 ), which contain CF3 and Br substituents (R). This steric influence can be exploited in the synthesis of a new class of terminal Al?OH complexes, as is seen in the controlled hydrolysis of 2 and 3 to give [EtAl(OH)(6‐R‐2‐py)2]? anions, as in the dimer [EtAl(OH)(6‐Br‐2‐py)2Li]2 ( 5 ). Attempts to deprotonate the Al?OH group of 5 using Et2Zn led only to the formation of the zincate complex [LiZn(6‐Br‐py)3]2 ( 6 ), while reactions of the 6‐Br substituted 3 and the unsubstituted complex [EtAl(2‐py)3Li] with MeOH give [EtAl(OMe)(6‐Br‐2‐py)2Li]2 ( 7 ) and [EtAl(OMe)(2‐py)2Li]2 ( 8 ), respectively, having similar dimeric arrangements to 5 . The combined studies presented provide key synthetic methods for the functionalization and elaboration of tris(pyridyl)aluminate ligands.  相似文献

Neutral superexcited states in molecular oxygen converging to the O(2)(+) c (4)Σ(u)(-) ion state are excited and probed with femtosecond time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to investigate predissociation and autoionization relaxation channels as the superexcited states decay. The c (4)Σ(u)(-) 4sσ(g) v=0, c (4)Σ(u)(-) 4sσ(g) v=1, and c (4)Σ(u)(-) 3dσ(g) v=1 superexcited states are prepared with pulsed high-harmonic radiation centered at 23.10 eV. A time-delayed 805 nm laser pulse is used to probe the excited molecular states and neutral atomic fragments by ionization; the ejected photoelectrons from these states are spectrally resolved with a velocity map imaging spectrometer. Three excited neutral O* atom products are identified in the photoelectron spectrum as 4d(1)?(3)D(J)°, 4p(1) (5)P(J)° and 3d(1) (3)D(J)° fragments. Additionally, several features in the photoelectron spectrum are assigned to photoionization of the transiently populated superexcited states. Using principles of the ion core dissociation model, the atomic fragments measured are correlated with the molecular superexcited states from which they originate. The 4d(1) (3)D(J)° fragment is observed to be formed on a timescale of 65 ± 5 fs and is likely a photoproduct of the 4sσ(g) v = 1 state. The 4p(1) (5)P(J)° fragment is formed on a timescale of 427 ± 75 fs and correlated with the neutral predissociation of the 4sσ(g) v = 0 state. The timescales represent the sum of predissociation and autoionization decay rates for the respective superexcited state. The production of the 3d(1) (3)D(J)° fragment is not unambiguously resolved in time due to an overlapping decay of a v = 1 superexcited state photoelectron signal. The observed 65 fs timescale is in good agreement with previous experiments and theory on the predissociation lifetimes of the v = 1 ion state, suggesting that predissociation may dominate the decay dynamics from the v = 1 superexcited states. An unidentified molecular state is inferred by the detection of a long-lived depletion signal (reduction in autoionization) associated with the B (2)Σ(g)(-) ion state that persists up to time delays of 105 ps.  相似文献

The geometries of 1H-7-azaindole and the 1H-7-azaindole(H(2)O)(1-2) complexes and the respective 7H tautomers in their ground and two lowest electronically excited pi-pi(*) singlet states have been optimized by using the second-order approximated coupled cluster model within the resolution-of-the-identity approximation. Based on these optimized structures, adiabatic excitation spectra were computed by using the combined density functional theory/multireference configuration interaction method. Special attention was paid to comparison of the orientation of transition dipole moments and excited state permanent dipole moments, which can be determined accurately with rotationally resolved electronic Stark spectroscopy. The electronic nature of the lowest excited state is shown to change from L(b) to L(a) upon water complexation.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(L)(2) (L = CH(3)OH, THF = tetrahydrofuran, PPh(3) = triphenylphosphine, py = pyridine) were explored upon excitation with visible light. Time-resolved absorption shows that all the complexes possess a long-lived transient (3.5-5.0 micros) assigned as an electronic excited state of the molecules, and they exhibit an optical transition at approximately 760 nm whose position is independent of axial ligand. No emission from the Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(L)(2) (L = CH(3)OH, THF, PPh(3), py) systems was detected, but energy transfer from Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(PPh(3))(2) to the (3)pipi excited state of perylene is observed. Electron transfer from Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(PPh(3))(2) to 4,4'-dimethyl viologen (MV(2+)) and chloro-p-benzoquinone (Cl-BQ) takes place with quenching rate constants (k(q)) of 8.0 x 10(6) and 1.2 x 10(6) M(-1) s(-1) in methanol, respectively. A k(q) value of 2 x 10(8) M(-1) s(-1) was measured for the quenching of the excited state of Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(PPh(3))(2) by O(2) in methanol. The observations are consistent with the production of an excited state with excited-state energy, E(00), between 1.34 and 1.77 eV.  相似文献

We report electronic polarization spectroscopy of tryptamine embedded in superfluid helium droplets. In a dc electric field, dependence of laser induced fluorescence from tryptamine on the polarization direction of the excitation laser is measured. Among the three observed major conformers A, D, and E, conformers D and E display preference for perpendicular excitation relative to the orientation field, while conformer A is insensitive to the polarization direction of the excitation laser. We attribute the behavior of conformer A to the fact that the angle between the permanent dipole and the transition dipole is close to the magic angle. Using a linear variation method, we can reproduce the polarization preference of the three conformers and determine the angle between the transition dipole and the permanent dipole. Since the side chain exerts small effect on the direction of the transition dipole in the frame of the indole chromophore, all three conformers have a common transition dipole more or less in the indole plane at an angle of approximately 60 degrees relative to the long axis of the chromophore. The orientation of the side chain, on the other hand, determines the size and direction of the permanent dipole, thereby affecting the angle between the permanent dipole and the transition dipole. For conformer D in the droplet, our results agree with the Anti(ph) structure, rather than the Anti(py) structure. Our work demonstrates that polarization spectroscopy is effective in conformational identification for molecules that contain a known chromophore. Although coupling of the electronic transition with the helium matrix is not negligible, it does not affect the direction of the transition dipole.  相似文献

Nonadiabatic theory of molecular spectra of diatomic molecules is presented. It is shown that in the fully nonadiabatic framework, the rovibrational wave functions describing the nuclear motions in diatomic molecules can be obtained from a system of coupled differential equations. The rovibrational wave functions corresponding to various electronic states are coupled through the relativistic spin-orbit coupling interaction and through different radial and angular coupling terms, while the transition intensities can be written in terms of the ground state rovibrational wave function and bound rovibrational wave functions of all excited electronic states that are electric dipole connected with the ground state. This theory was applied in the nearly exact nonadiabatic calculations of energy levels, line positions, and intensities of the calcium dimer in the A (1)Sigma(u) (+)(1 (1)S+1 (1)D), c (3)Pi(u)(1 (3)P+1 (1)S), and a (3)Sigma(u) (+)(1 (3)P+1 (1)S) manifolds of states. The excited state potentials were computed using a combination of the linear response theory within the coupled-cluster singles and doubles framework for the core-core and core-valence electronic correlations and of the full configuration interaction for the valence-valence correlation, and corrected for the one-electron relativistic terms resulting from the first-order many-electron Breit theory. The electric transition dipole moment governing the A (1)Sigma(u) (+)<--X (1)Sigma(g) (+) transitions was obtained as the first residue of the frequency-dependent polarization propagator computed with the coupled-cluster method restricted to single and double excitations, while the spin-orbit and nonadiabatic coupling matrix elements were computed with the multireference configuration interaction wave functions restricted to single and double excitations. Our theoretical results explain semiquantitatively all the features of the observed Ca(2) spectrum in the A (1)Sigma(u) (+)(1 (1)S+1 (1)D), c (3)Pi(u)(1 (3)P+1 (1)S), and a (3)Sigma(u) (+)(1 (3)P+1 (1)S) manifolds of states.  相似文献

The rotationally resolved electronic spectra of the electronic origin of the 7-azaindole-(H(2)O)(1) and of the 7-azaindole-(H(2)O)(2) clusters have been measured in a molecular beam. From the rotational constants the structures in the S(0) and S(1) electronic states were determined as cyclic with the pyrrolo NH and the pyridino N atoms being bridged by one and two water molecules, respectively. Excited state lifetimes of about 10 ns for both clusters have been found. In the spectrum of the 7-azaindole-(H(2)O)(2) cluster a splitting of the rovibronic band is observed, which can be traced back to a large amplitude motion, involving the out-of-plane hydrogen atoms of the water chain. Both the changes of the rotational constants upon electronic excitation and the orientation of the transition dipole point to a solvent induced state reversal between the L(a) and the L(b) states upon microsolvation.  相似文献

Emission, excitation spectra, quantum yields, and emission lifetimes are reported for the mixed-ligand, bis(2.2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes, cis-[Ru(bpy)(2)(PPh(3))X](n+) with X = Cl(-), Br(-), CN(-), and NO(2)(-) (n = 1) and pyridine (py), 4-aminopyridine (NH(2)py), 4,4'- bipyridine (4,4'-bpy), NH(3), and MeCN (n = 2) in EtOH-MeOH, 4:1 (v:v), at 77 K. Radiative, k(r), and nonradiative, k(nr), decay rate constants were determined for the series of complexes, and a linear dependence of ln k(nr) on E(00), with E(00) being the 0-0 energy gap determined by emission spectral fitting, was obtained with a slope of -(0.6 ± 0.1) × 10(-3). On the basis of emission quantum yields and apparent k(r) values, possible metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) deactivation by direct population of excited (1)dd states from initially excited (1)MLCT states is discussed.  相似文献

The ground state and lowest triplet-state structures of [Re(4,4'-(COOEt)(2)-2,2'-bpy)(CO)(3)py]PF(6) photosensitizer (bpy=bipyridine, py=pyridine) have been studied with density functional theory (DFT). Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) was carried out to predict the photophysical properties of the photosensitizer. The effects of the solvents were evaluated using the conductor-like polarizable continuum (CPCM) method in dichloromethane, chloroform, acetonitrile, acetone, ethanol and dimethylsulfoxide. The electronic transition energies computed with BLYP, MPWPW91, B3LYP and MPW1PW91 functionals are compared with the experimental spectra. Based on the calculated excited energies, the experimental absorption maximum is assigned as metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) and ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT) mixed transition, and the luminescence originates from the lowest triplet state that is ascribed as the mixed transition of MLCT/LLCT.  相似文献

The exploration of the NiX(2)/py(2)CO/Et(3)N (X = F, Cl, Br, I; py(2)CO = di-2-pyridyl ketone; Et(3)N = triethylamine) reaction system led to the tetranuclear [Ni(4)Cl(2){py(2)C(OH)O}(2){py(2)C(OMe)O}(2)(MeOH)(2)]Cl(2)·2Et(2)O (1·2Et(2)O) and [Ni(4)Br(2){py(2)C(OH)O}(2){py(2)C(OMe)O}(2)(MeOH)(2)]Br(2)·2Et(2)O (2·2Et(2)O) and the trinuclear [Ni(3){py(2)C(OMe)O}(4)]I(2)·2.5MeOH (3·2.6MeOH), [Ni(3){py(2)C(OMe)O}(4)](NO(3))(0.65)I(1.35)·2MeOH (4·2MeOH) and [Ni(3){py(2)C(OMe)O}(4)](SiF(6))(0.8)F(0.4)·3.5MeOH (5·3.5MeOH) aggregates. The presence of the intermediate size Cl(-) and Br(-) anions resulted in planar tetranuclear complexes with a dense hexagonal packing of cations and donor atoms (tetramolybdate topology) where the X(-) anions participate in the core acting as bridging ligands. The F(-) and I(-) anions do not favour the above arrangement resulting in triangular complexes with an isosceles topology. The magnetic properties of 1-3 have been studied by variable-temperature dc, variable-temperature and variable-field ac magnetic susceptibility techniques and magnetization measurements. All complexes are high-spin with ground states S = 4 for 1 and 2 and S = 3 for 3.  相似文献

The electronic spectrum of the confacial bioctahedral complex Cs(3)Mo(2)Br(9) has been investigated by single-crystal absorption, Zeeman, and MCD spectroscopies. A total of seven distinct band regions were resolved and assigned to transitions essentially within the t(2)(2)t(2)(2) configuration that arises when the pair of t(2)(z)() orbitals in the t(2)(3)t(2)(3) configuration is decoupled by strong Mo-Mo sigma bonding. The excited state separations, and in particular the orbital g values, are sensitive to Mo-Mo pi bonding and show clearly that the pi bonding is weaker in the bromide than in the chloride complex.  相似文献

A combined experimental and theoretical investigation of photodissociation dynamics of IBr(-) and IBr(-)(CO(2)) on the B ((2)Σ(1/2)(+)) excited electronic state is presented. Time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy reveals that in bare IBr(-) prompt dissociation forms exclusively I? + Br(-). Compared to earlier dissociation studies of IBr(-) excited to the A' ((2)Π(1∕2)) state, the signal rise is delayed by 200 ± 20 fs. In the case of IBr(-)(CO(2)), the product distribution shows the existence of a second major (~40%) dissociation pathway, Br? + I(-). In contrast to the primary product channel, the signal rise associated with this pathway shows only a 50 ± 20 fs delay. The altered product branching ratio indicates that the presence of one solvent-like CO(2) molecule dramatically affects the electronic structure of the dissociating IBr(-). We explore the origins of this phenomenon with classical trajectories, quantum wave packet studies, and MR-SO-CISD calculations of the six lowest-energy electronic states of IBr(-) and 36 lowest-energy states of IBr. We find that the CO(2) molecule provides sufficient solvation energy to bring the initially excited state close in energy to a lower-lying state. The splitting between these states and the time at which the crossing takes place depend on the location of the solvating CO(2) molecule.  相似文献

A series of aluminum complexes containing the tridentate, redox-active ligand bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-phenol)amine ([ONO]H(3)) in three different oxidation states were synthesized. The aluminum halide salts AlCl(3) and AlBr(3) were reacted with the doubly deprotonated form of the ligand to afford five-coordinate [ONHO(cat)]AlX(solv) complexes (1a, X = Cl, solv = OEt(2); 1b, X = Br, solv = THF), each having a trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry at the aluminum and containing the [ONHO(cat)](2-) ligand with a protonated, sp(3)-hybridized nitrogen donor. The [ONO] ligand platform may also be added to aluminum through the use of the oxidized ligand salt [ONO(q)]K, which was reacted with AlCl(3) in the presence of either diphenylacetylacetonate (acacPh(2)(-)) or 8-oxyquinoline (quinO(-)) to afford [ONO(q)]Al(acacPh(2))Cl (2) or [ONO(q)]Al(quinO)Cl (3), respectively, with well-defined [ONO(q)](-) ligands. Quinonate complexes 2 and 3 were reduced by one electron to afford the corresponding complexes K{[ONO(sq)]Al(acacPh(2))(py)} (4) and K{[ONO(sq)]Al(quinO)(py)} (5), respectively, containing well-defined [ONO(sq)](2-) ligands. The addition of tetrachloro-1,2-quinone to 1a in the presence of pyridine resulted in the expulsion of HCl and the formation of an aluminum complex with two different redox active ligands, [ONO]Al(o-O(2)C(6)Cl(4))(py) (6). Similar results were obtained when 1a was reacted with 9,10-phenanthrenequinone to afford [ONO]Al(o-O(2)C(14)H(8))(py) (7) or with pyrene-4,5-dione to afford [ONO]Al(o-O(2)C(16)H(8))(py) (8). Structural, spectroscopic and preliminary magnetic measurements on 6-8 suggest ligand non-innocent redox behavior in these complexes.  相似文献

π‐Conjugated segments, chromophores, are the electronically active units of polymer materials used in organic electronics. To elucidate the effect of the bending of these linear moieties on elementary electronic properties, such as luminescence color and radiative rate, we introduce a series of molecular polygons. The π‐system in these molecules becomes so distorted in bichromophores (digons) that these absorb and emit light of arbitrary polarization: any part of the chain absorbs and emits radiation with equal probability. Bending leads to a cancellation of transition dipole moment (TDM), increasing excited‐state lifetime. Simultaneously, fluorescence shifts to the red as radiative transitions require mixing of the excited state with vibrational modes. However, strain can become so large that excited‐state localization on shorter units of the chain occurs, compensating TDM cancellation. The underlying correlations between shape and photophysics can only be resolved in single molecules.  相似文献

The sulfur-rich osmium nitrosyl complexes Bu(4)N[Os(NO)((bu)S(2))(2)] (1) [(bu)S(2)(2-) = 3,5-tert-butyl-1,2-benzenedithiolate(2-)] and [Os(NO)(py(bu)S(4))]Br ()[py(bu)S(4)(2-) = 2,6-bis(2-sulfanyl-3,5-di-tert-butylphenylthio)dimethylpyridine(2-)] have been synthesized. The molecular structure of 1 exhibits a square-pyramidal geometry with the NO group at the apical position. A pseudo-octahedral geometry with two thiolate and two thioether donors in trans configuration is found for 2. Compound 2 shows two quasi-reversible one-electron redox waves at E(1/2) = 0.51 and -0.46 V vs. NHE for the redox couples [Os(NO)(py(bu)S(4))](+1/0) and [Os(NO)(py(bu)S(4))](0/-1), respectively. 2 reacts with NaAlH(4) to produce Na[Os(H)(py(bu)S(4))] (3), which exhibits a typical hydride resonance in the (1)H NMR spectrum at delta =-15.03 ppm. Protonation of 3 with HBF(4)/CD(3)OD at 20 degrees C rapidly releases H(2)/HD to afford the dinuclear complex [Os(py(bu)S(4))](2) (4). Low temperature (1)H and (2)H NMR spectra of in [D(8)]THF with CH(3)OH or CD(3)OD at -80 degree C allow the observation of the formation of [Os(H(2)/HD)(py(bu)S(4))]. A 1 : 1 : 1 triplet at delta = -7.84 ppm [J(HD) = 31.2 Hz] and a relaxation time of T(1)(min) = 6 ms (-65 degrees C, 270 MHz) firmly establish the presence of eta(2)-H(2)/HD ligand. At room temperature, 3 interacts with D(2) (1 atm) and undergoes heterolytic D(2) cleavage followed by H/D exchange to form Na[Os(D)(py(bu)S(4))] (3a). A plausible cyclic mechanism has been proposed.  相似文献

Chlorophyll a (Chl a) is the most abundant pigment on earth. In all plants, algae, and cyanobacteria, it plays a pivotal role as an antenna and reaction center pigment in the primary steps of photosynthesis. In the past, a true three-dimensional (3D) experimental determination of the Qy electronic transition dipole moment orientation could not be obtained. With combined femtosecond polarization resolved VIS pump-IR probe experiments and theoretical calculations of the infrared transition dipole moments (tdm's) in the electronic ground state, we determined the 3D orientation of the Qy electronic tdm of Chl a within the molecular structure. Polarization resolved experiments provided angles of the Qy electronic tdm with three different infrared tdm's, whose orientations within the molecular structure were taken from our theoretical calculations. The orientation of the Qy tdm results from the intersection of all three angles and was found to have an angle of (78 +/- 3)degrees with the x-axis, (12 3)degrees with the y-axis, and (86 +/- 2)degrees with the z-axis.  相似文献

The reaction of the mixed-valent metal triangles [Mn(3)O(O(2)CR)(6)(py)(3)] (R = CH(3), Ph, C(CH(3))(3)) with the tripodal ligands H(3)thme (1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)ethane) and H(3)tmp (1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)propane) in MeCN, produces a family of manganese rodlike complexes whose structures are all derived from a series of edge-sharing triangles. Variable temperature direct current (dc) magnetic susceptibility data were collected for all complexes in the 1.8-300 K temperature range in fields up to 7.0 T. Complex 1, [Mn(12)O(4)(OH)(2)(PhCOO)(12)(thme)(4)(py)(2)], has an S = 7 ground state with the parameters g = 1.98 and D = -0.13 K. Complex 2, [Mn(8)O(4)((CH(3))(3)CCO(2))(10)(thme)(2)(py)(2)] has a ground state of S = 6, with g = 1.81 and D = -0.36 K. Complex 3, [Mn(7)O(2)(PhCO(2))(9)(thme)(2)(py)(3)], has a spin ground states of S = 7 with the parameters g = 1.78 and D = -0.20 K. The best fit for complex 4, [Mn(6)((CH(3))(3)CCO(2))(8)(tmp)(2)(py)(2)], gave a spin ground state of S = 3 with the parameters g = 1.73 and D = -0.75 K, but was of poorer quality than that normally obtained. The presence of multiple Mn(2+) ions in the structure of 4 leads to the presence of low-lying excited states with energy levels very close to the ground state, and in the case of complex 5, [Mn(6)(CH(3)CO(2))(6)(thme)(2)(H(2)tea)(2)], no satisfactory fit of the data was obtained. DFT calculations on 4 and 5 indicate complexes with spin ground states of S = 4 and S = 0 respectively, despite their topological similarities. Single-crystal hysteresis loop and relaxation measurements show complex 1 to be a SMM.  相似文献
