In this paper, we investigate the impact of EDFA and SOA amplifiers over BER and Q-parameter of a Radio-over-Fiber (Rof) system consisting of two different system set-ups using direct- and external-laser modulation techniques. In this work, we also measured and compared the electric Rf power at receiver at different modulating Rf frequencies up to 20 GHz using two different optical amplifiers, i.e. EDFA and SOA. Further, we also compared the received electric Rf power at different optical powers without and with different optical amplifiers. An improvement of −11 dB (approx.) of received Rf power was observed using EDFA with the external modulation technique, on comparing with direct modulation.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigated a Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system consisting of two different system set-ups using direct- and external-laser modulation techniques to study frequency response. Further, second- and third-harmonic generations of single- and two-tone RoF systems have been studied. In this work, we also measured the electric Rf power of two receiving channels and BER at received optical power at different modulating Rf frequencies up to 20 GHz using EDFA or SOA amplifiers. The results have been compared for the electric Rf power of receiving channels obtained using a sin2 Mach Zehnder modulator and a linear modulator, and an improvement in the received Rf power with linear modulator in comparison with the sin2 modulator is observed.  相似文献

Since the introduction of erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in optical fiber communication systems at 1550 nm, the fiber loss is no longer considered as the limiting factor but the fiber dispersion and chirp parameters play an important role in degrading the performance of optical communication systems. Further, the invention of external modulators of Mach-Zehnder (MS) type minimizes the transmission power penalty due to fiber chromatic dispersion as these modulators are consider almost chirp-free modulators. Also, better suppression of nonlinear distortions consists of harmonic distortions (HDs) and intermodulation distortions (IMDs) were achieved by using Mach-Zehnder external modulator [8]. In this work, a simulation comparison of external- and direct-modulation schemes using different optical amplifiers; SOA and EDFA in single-tone RoF system is reported. A single-tone channel of 20 GHz is transmitted over single-mode fiber (SMF) either externally modulated by using single-electrode (SEMZM) - and dual-electrode (DEMZM) - Mach-Zehnder modulator or by direct-modulation scheme. Better improvements in the measurement of received RF power of a 20 km linked single-tone RoF system are achieved by using SEMZM with EDFA, which means maximum optical link is achieved between Central Office (CO) and Base Station (BS). Further, this scheme provides better BER as compare to other schemes discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Digital radio communications uses nowadays different modulation schemes with high data rate possibilities. Designing a multi-standard linearized transmitter is an interesting goal for which OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) modulation is the worst case at the moment. Transmission of multi-carrier signals like OFDM ones are subject to high dynamic variation, quantified by the PAPR (Peak to Average Power Ratio) signal property. Nonlinearities occurring at the power amplification part implies the transmitter to be linearized for preserving the information integrity. This paper presents a new multi-standard linearized RF transmitter architecture based on both EER and LINC techniques. The goal is to cancel the influence of the high PAPR of an OFDM signal as soon as possible in the different steps of the transmitter. In order to maintain the overall efficiency, the use of switched PAs is promoted, which is possible thanks to the constant (envelope) power property occurring by the proposed EER–LINC method. New circuit designs are necessary, and comparison with classical EER and LINC solutions is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigated the post-, pre- and symmetrical power compensation methods for a different position of hybrid optical amplifier RAMAN–EDFA in fiber link. The effect of increase in signal input power for three power compensation methods is compared in terms of bit error rate, eye closure penalty and output received power. It is found that the post power compensation method is superior to pre- and symmetrical power compensation methods. Further, the effect of variation in length of the standard single mode fiber and dispersion-compensated fiber for three power compensation configurations has also been observed. We observed that RAMAN–EDFA as post power compensation method provides least bit error rate (10?40) and high output power (12 dBm) at ?15 dBm signal input power at fiber link.  相似文献

This paper presents a multitone RoF system employing a central station and a remote antenna station to transmit modulated microwave or mm-wave signals. Two configurations of the system employing direct and external modulation are presented. First, at the central station, the modulating signal is directly and externally modulated at 1549.5 and 1550.5 nm, respectively, and the combined signal is then transmitted using wireless mode. In the second configuration, the combined signal is transmitted over 20 km to the remote antenna station using optical fibre connectivity. At the remote antenna station, both channel wavelengths are separated and amplified with an EDFA and SOA and are detected. The demonstration results show that there exists a small power penalty between the direct and the external modulation. But a large power penalty is reported depending upon the choice of optical amplifier viz. EDFA or SOA. Better performance is recorded in later case. The results also show that power is being distributed among the operating frequency and sidebands adjacent to it after transmission over a fibre link.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the performance of the optical system consisting of chain of EDFA amplifiers for different data formats such as non-return-to-zero (NRZ), return to zero (RZ) and Manchester. Their effect on the spectral loss variations produced in fiber output is analyzed. We show that when the RZ raised cosine and Manchester raised cosine modulation formats are used, the non-linear ties are produced in power spectrum plots which severely distort the signals obtained at the output of the chain of the EDFA amplifiers. On the other hand, the NRZ raised cosine modulation format best compensates the spectral loss variations in the power spectrum plots obtained at the output. We further show that NRZ raised cosine has good eye opening as compared to other modulation formats.  相似文献

A novel tunable fiber ring laser configuration with a combination of bidirectional Raman amplification and dual erbium-doped fiber (EDF) amplification is proposed for realizing high optical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), long-distance, quasi-distributed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing systems with large capacities and low cost. The hybrid Raman-EDF amplification configuration arranged in the ring laser can enhance the optical SNR of FBG sensor signals significantly owing to the good combination of the high gain of the erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and the low noise of the Raman amplification. Such a sensing system can support a large number of FBG sensors because of the use of a tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter located within the ring laser and spatial division multiplexing for expansion of sensor channels. Experimental results show that an excellent optical SNR of approximately 60 dB has been achieved for a 50 km transmission distance with a low Raman pump power of approximately 170 mW at a wavelength of 1455 nm and a low EDFA pump power of approximately 40 mW at a wavelength of 980 nm, which is the highest optical SNR achieved so far for a 50 km long FBG sensor system, to our knowledge.  相似文献

In this paper, the design, implementation and performance analysis of various one dimensional codes in an OCDMA system for different data formats is presented. A number of different codes are used with optical CDMA to improve its error performance. Here, three such codes, optical orthogonal codes (OOC), Walsh Hadamard codes and zero cross-correlation (ZCC) codes have been compared using different data formats, NRZ raised cosine, NRZ rectangular, RZ raised cosine and RZ rectangular. It is found that NRZ raised cosine has the best system performance for all the codes used. After that, the three codes have been compared in terms of the BER, eye diagrams and received optical power using NRZ raised cosine modulation format. It is analyzed that ZCC codes have zero cross-correlation property. The simulation results revealed that ZCC codes can provide a better BER compared to the OOC and Walsh Hadamard codes and it is most suitable to be employed in the OCDMA systems.  相似文献

为克服长距离光纤有线电视(CATV)系统中采用高增益掺铒光纤放大器(EDFA)所带来的非线性损伤.对在残留边带调幅(AM—VSB)外调制光纤有线电视系统中采用光纤分布拉曼放大时的组合二阶失真(CSO)进行了,理论研究。根据拉曼放大对信号光强的增益作用。导出了分布拉曼放大条件下的薛定谔方程。并采用微扰法解出了存在拉曼分布放大时,残留边带调幅外调制有线电视系统中.自相位调制(SPM)导致的组合二阶失真的解析表达式。相应数值计算结果表明.相对于采用掺铒光纤放大器功放.采用相同放大倍数的分布托曼放大可使长距离系统中自相位调制导致的组合二阶失真性能改善10dB以上。因此可以得出结论:在长距离残留边带调幅凋制的有线电视系统中,采用分布式光纤拉曼放大可以较好地改善由自相位调制导致的组合二阶失真恶化。  相似文献

An adaptively modulated optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OOFDM) based system has been simulated in present research. Performance analysis in terms of bit error rate (BER) and signal to noise ratio (SNR) has been carried over the system using fixed modulation for different M-array quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM). An adaptive modulation over OOFDM has been analyzed over three different algorithmic schemes. Impact of adaptive modulation on spectral efficiency has also been investigated for OOFDM. Simulation results show the enhancement in terms of spectral efficiency and capacity for adaptively modulated OOFDM system.  相似文献

A short wavelength band brillouin–erbium fiber laser (S-band BEFL) with enhanced characteristics is demonstrated using an additional erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in the sub-loop of the laser system. Compared with the conventional BEFL without the additional EDFA, the enhanced BEFL has improved the number of channels as well as the flatness of the brillouin Stoke's peak power. By incorporating a double-pass EDFA, a stable output laser comb up to 8 channels was obtained at 1503 nm wavelength region with peak power variation for the first three Stokes is reduced from 30.9 to 5.4 dB. The incorporation of additional EDFA also increases the tuning range of the BEFL, which the maximum tuning range of 1.8 nm was obtained with the single-pass scheme. The S-band BEFL has constant spacing of 0.09 nm or 11 GHz, which has a potential application in dense wavelength division multiplexed system.  相似文献

Space radiation effect on EDFA for inter-satellite optical communication   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The erbium-doped fiber (EDF) has been irradiated by electron with a dose of 1000 krad to analyse the space radiation effect on EDF amplifier (EDFA) in inter-satellite optical communication. This is the first work to analyse the effect on actually applied systems. Three critical parameters of EDFA, most important for external module subsystems, have been tested. The output power comes down to −57.21 dBm and the noise figure (NF) climbs up to 18.14 dB at dose 1000 krad, when the input power is −2.00 dBm. Although there is a strong ability to recover after the radiation experiment, EDFA deterioration is really huge. Apart from that, the central wavelength of EDFA never changes. To guarantee the accuracy of analysis of the radiation effect on EDFA, WDM coupler and isolator are also irradiated with the EDF at the same time. According to the results of all the tests, the EDFA could be directly used in the low-radiation dose orbits if doses are less than 20 krad. And the radiation experiment data will also be a good reference for the design of the actual systems in inter-satellite optical communication with different dose orbits.  相似文献

A systematic experimental and numerical evaluation of several basic approaches to multiple-quantum magic angle spinning (MQMAS) NMR is presented for spin-32 nuclei. The approaches use identical MQ excitation, via a single RF pulse of high power, and three types of methods for conversion to observable coherence: (a) nutation by strong continuous wave pulse; (b) rotation-induced adiabatic coherence transfer (RIACT), and (c) fast amplitude modulation (FAM-1). The optimization strategies and maximum achievable MQMAS efficiencies of (87)Rb in RbNO(3) and LiRbSO(4) are investigated using several coherence transfer schemes under a wide range of experimental parameters. These parameters include the strength of the RF magnetic field nu(RF), the sample rotation speed nu(R), the length of the conversion period, and the modulation frequency in FAM-1. The data provide new insights into the spin dynamics involved in these techniques and the experimental guidelines for achieving the best sensitivity. The RF requirements for maximum efficiency of conversion depend on the method to be used. In general, FAM-1 performs better than the nutation and RIACT methods in terms of efficiency and off-resonance behavior, especially when nu(RF) is small compared to the quadrupole frequency nu(Q). The experiments performed using nutation, RIACT, and FAM-1 methods yield similar resolution in the isotropic dimension, regardless of nu(RF).  相似文献

In this paper, the analytical investigations for the crosstalk in fiber amplification for WDM channels have been reported. The crosstalk between WDM channels with external Raman amplification including second-order dispersion terms has been investigated. It has been shown that the higher-order dispersion severely degrades the performance of optical communication systems. To ensure small crosstalk, the signal gain and the injected pump power should be limited to the value well below the threshold of Raman amplification. Analytical formula for signal interference ratio (SIR) and gain in fiber Raman amplifier including the impact of second-order dispersion terms for WDM systems has been derived at different wavelengths. It has also been shown that there is increase in crosstalk due to second-order dispersion.  相似文献

In this paper, we have proposed a long-haul optical transmission system, based on a single sideband (SSB) modulation scheme. Analytical and simulation models have been developed, optimised and demonstrated for the proposed SSB system configurations. The SSB modulation scheme was proposed to overcome dispersion in the fibre. We have shown that the related link losses can be minimized by increasing the quality of the optical signal at the modulation. We have optimised the radio over fibre configuration scheme based on dual parallel dual drive Mach–Zehnder Modulator, thereby increasing transmission length of the fibre. With the proposed SSB, by suppressing some of the harmonics and cancelling one of the sidebands, we have halved the RF power fading and interference. The developed analytical (theoretical/mathematical) model agrees very well with the simulation results using two (both) different commercial simulation tools. The optical signal is boosted while minimizing the number of repeaters. We report a SSB configuration, compensation and amplification with individual spans of 150 km, by extending the length of the link up to 3250 km. The proposed system configuration exhibits high performance with less complexity and lower cost.  相似文献

Starting from the modeling of isolated ions and ion-pairs, a closed form rate and power evolution equations for pulse amplification in high-concentration erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) are constructed. According to the equations, the effects of ion-pairs on the performance of a high-concentration EDFA in steady state including upper-state population, ASE powers without input signal are analyzed numerically. Furthermore, the effects of ion-pairs on the dynamic characteristics of low-repetition-rate pulse amplification in the EDFA including the storied energy, output pulse energy and evolution of pulse waveform distortion are systematically studied by using the finite-difference method. The results show that the presence of the ion-pairs deteriorates amplifier performance, such as the upper-state population, ASE power, storied energy, output pulse energy, and saturated gain, etc. For the high-concentration EDFA, the optimum fiber length should be modified to achieve a better performance. The relations between the evolution of pulse waveform distortion or output pulse energy and the input pulse peak power are also discussed. The results can provide important guide for the design and optimization of the low-repetition-rate pulse amplification in high-concentration EDFAs.  相似文献
