Nonlinear susceptibility of a quantum dot (QD) embedded in a two-sided cavity, is studied theoretically from a weak-coupling to a strong-coupling regime. In the relevance of a quantum logic gate, the corresponding nonlinear phase shifts (Kerr effect) are estimated for coherent wavepackets including one photon on average. In the weak-coupling regime, the phase shift enhances strongly as a function of a coupling constant between the cavity photon and QD, and eventually saturates in the strong-coupling regime. We also show transmission spectra to evaluate the efficiency of the phase shift. Although the efficiency decreases monotonically in the weak-coupling regime, it rises in the strong-coupling regime.  相似文献

Four wave mixing analysis is stated for quantum dot semiconductor optical amplifiers (QD SOAs) using the propagation equations (including nonlinear propagation contribution) coupled with the QD rate equations under the saturation assumption. Long wavelength III-nitride InN and AIInN QD SOAs are simulated. Asymmetric behavior due to linewidth enhancement factor is assigned. P-doping increases efficiency. Lossless efficiency for InAlN QDs for longer radii is obtained. Carrier heating is shown to have a considerable effect and a detuning dependence is expected at most cases. InN QD SOAs shown to have higher efficiency.  相似文献

The linear optical properties and Kerr nonlinear optical response in a four-level loop configuration Ga As/Al Ga As semiconductor quantum dot are analytically studied with the phonon-assisted transition(PAT). It is shown that the changes among a single electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) window, a double EIT window and the amplification of the probe field in the absorption curves can be controlled by varying the strength of PAT κ. Meanwhile, double switching from the anomalous dispersion regime to the normal dispersion regime can likely be achieved by increasing the Rabi energy of the external optical control field. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the group velocity of the probe field can be practically regulated by varying the PAT and the intensity of the optical control field. In the nonlinear case, it is shown that the large SPM and XPM can be achieved as linear absorption vanishes simultaneously, and the PAT can suppress both third-order self-Kerr and the cross-Kerr nonlinear effect of the QD. Our study is much more practical than its atomic counterpart due to its flexible design and the controllable interference strength, and may provide some new possibilities for technological applications.  相似文献

The optical Kerr effect in a quantum disc is investigated with the density-matrix approach, most emphasis is devoted to the electron-phonon interactions on the optical Kerr effect. The numerical results are presented with characteristic parameters of a GaAs quantum disc. It is shown that the optical Kerr effect increases as the disc thickness D decreases. LO-phonons impose greater influence on the optical Kerr effect than SO-phonons. The smaller the disc thickness D, the sharper the peak, and the larger the peak intensity. When the disc thickness is greater than 30, the peak will disappear gradually.  相似文献

本文利用密度矩阵方法研究了柱形量子线中的光学克尔效应, 重点讨论了电子-声子相互作用对其的影响,并以GaAs量子线为例进行了数值计算。结果显示,随着量子线半径R0的减小,光学克尔效应会逐渐增强;考虑了电子-声子相互作用时的光学克尔效应比未考虑电子-声子相互作用时的大20%多;量子线半径R0越小,峰越尖锐,峰值越强;当量子线半径R0大〖WTBZ〗于40 nm时,峰会逐渐消失.  相似文献

The propagation of exciton polaritons in near-field-coupled quantum-dot (QD) chains is modeled by a density-matrix formalism. It is shown that at least for low-temperature operation it is possible using electronically controlled switching by the quantum-confined Stark effect in such QD chains to rival and outperform room-temperature CMOS electronics in footprint and switch energy, though not in speed.  相似文献

The contour integration technique applied to calculate the optical conductivity tensor at finite temperatures in the case of inhomogeneous surface layered systems within the framework of the spin-polarized relativistic screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker band structure method is extended to arbitrary polarizations of the electric field. It is shown that besides the inter-band contribution, the contour integration technique also accounts for the intra-band contribution. Introducing a layer-resolved complex Kerr angle, the importance of the first, non-magnetic buffer layer below the ferromagnetic surface on the magneto-optical Kerr effect in the Co | Pt m multilayer system is shown. Increasing the thickness of the buffer Pt, the layer-resolved complex Kerr angles follow a linear dependence with respect to m only after nine Pt mono-layers.  相似文献

Ion-beam-synthesized Fe3Si thin films are studied using the magneto-optical Kerr effect, ferromagnetic resonance, electron diffraction, and Auger spectroscopy. A change in the direction of rotation of the plane-polarized light as a function of film-synthesis conditions is discovered when the meridional Kerr effect is recorded. It is shown that the observed effect is related to the presence of thin interference films with different thicknesses on the surfaces of the magnetic layers.  相似文献

We investigate the suppression of Kerr nonlinearities by optical phase conjugation (OPC) in a fiber transmission system without power symmetry by including all the manifestations of the Kerr nonlinearities. We found that OPC cannot completely compensate for all Kerr nonlinearities in absence of power symmetry, and some nonlinearities may become even worse if one of the nonlinearities is fully compensated. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the compensation system to eliminate the most dominating nonlinearity. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the interplay of various kinds of nonlinearities. The need of proper design for transmission systems to suppress the dominating nonlinear effect is shown when all manifestations of Kerr nonlinearity are not compensated simultaneously.  相似文献

The Kerr nonlinearity of a left-handed material is analyzed in a four-level atomic system.It is shown that,due to the effect of quantum interference,a large enhanced Kerr nonlinearity accompanied by vanishing absorption can be realized via choosing appropriate parameters in this negative refraction atomic medium.It not only shows the large nonlinearity but also acts as the phase and amplitude compensating effects.  相似文献

Based on the diffraction theory model for hot image formation, the evolution of the hot image effect in a high-power laser system structured by cascaded Kerr medium with gain and loss is numerically investigated. For a sample simulation system with five pieces of Kerr medium plates arrayed in parallel, the dependences of the peak intensity and the location of the hot image on different parameters of the scatterer and the system are analyzed. It is shown that the possible damage spots caused by the beam peak intensity would be repetitious in the laser system with cascaded medium. Arranging the Kerr medium plates and the downstream optical components in a rational way (for instance increasing the interval between two adjacent medium plates, arranging the Kerr medium plates aperiodically or certain optical components properly) may be helpful to relax or avoid the optical damage caused by the hot image effect.  相似文献

This paper reports on the results of research into low-dimensional magnetic structures that have been intensively studied over previous decades due to the discovery of novel effects that are exhibited by these structures but not observed in bulk magnetic materials. A nonlinear optical analog of the magnetooptical Kerr effect is revealed in the optical third-harmonic generation in thin magnetic metallic films and nanogranular structures. It is shown that the magnetic nonlinear optical Kerr effect observed in the third harmonic exceeds the magnetooptical analog by more than one order of magnitude.  相似文献

The conditions of unambiguous determination of band gap edges of the perfect one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystal in the polar Kerr effect configuration are considered for normal incidence of a plane monochromatic wave. The consequence of their fulfillment is the identical turn into unity of reflectances of waves with right and left circular polarizations. Analytical expressions for edges are derived for a particular case. Kerr effect features are shown for frequencies coinciding with midgaps.  相似文献

The problem of the electromagnetic wave reflection on the second optical harmonic from a semi-infinite optically isotropic magnetic medium is considered for the uniform magnetization direction corresponding to the polar Kerr effect. In the first approximation in magnetization, the method of Green’s tensor functions is used to derive expressions for the complex amplitudes of the wave fields for the incidence of s-and p-polarized waves (as well as of their superposition) on the medium. It is shown that, in the latter case, the nonlinear polar Kerr effect is of the intensity type. The dependences of the intensity effect on the angle of incidence of the inducing wave and on the angle of its polarization, which were obtained in numerical experiments, are presented. A comparative analysis of the linear and nonlinear intensity Kerr effects is carried out.  相似文献

Majorana fermions(MFs) are exotic particles that are their own anti-particles. Currently, the search for MFs occurring as quasiparticle excitations in condensed matter systems has attracted widespread interest, because of their importance in fundamental physics and potential applications in topological quantum computation based on solid-state devices. Motivated by recent experimental progress towards the detection and manipulation of MFs in hybrid semiconductor/superconductor heterostructures, in this review, we present a novel proposal to probe MFs in all-optical domain. We introduce a single quantum dot(QD), a hybrid quantum dot-nanomechanical resonators(QD-NR) system, and a carbon nanotube(CNT) resonator implanted in a single electron spin system with optical pump-probe technology to detect MFs, respectively. With this scheme, a possible Majorana signature is investigated via the probe absorption spectrum and nonlinear optical Kerr effect, and the coupling strength between MFs and the QD or the single electron spin is also determined. In the hybrid QD-NR system, vibration of the NR will enhance the nonlinear optical effect, which makes the MFs more sensitive for detection. In the CNT resonator with a single electron, the single electron spin can be considered as a sensitive probe, and the CNT resonator behaved as a phonon cavity is robust for detecting of MFs. This optical scheme will provide another method for the detection MFs and will open the door for new applications ranging from robust manipulation of MFs to quantum information processing based on MFs.  相似文献

The microscopic quantities that determine the magnitude and frequency position of peaks in the Kerr rotation spectrum are studied on the basis of first-principles band-structure theory. The transition metals Fe, Co and Ni serve as model systems. The magnitude of the magnetooptical Kerr effec (MOKE) is basically brought about by the spin-orbit (SO) coupling strength and it is shown that the Kerr rotation scales linearly with the SO-coupling. Exchange splitting (or magnetization) is found to influence the Kerr effect in a rather complicated way: enlarging the magnetization can both enhance and diminish spectral peaks. A strong effect is found for the dependence of the position of spectral peaks on the lattice spacing: a 3 to 6% increase in lattice parameters can lead to shifts of about 1 eV of the main MOKE peak.  相似文献

We investigated the spatiotemporal modulation instability (MI) in a medium with a non-instantaneous Kerr response in which the nonlinear contribution to the refractive index is governed by a relaxing Debye type equation. The expression for the MI gain spectrum in non-instantaneous Kerr medium is obtained, which clearly reveals the influence of the finite time of the nonlinear response (relaxation effect) on the spatiotemporal MI. It is shown that, due to the relaxation effect, the spatiotemporal MI can appear for the case of anomalous dispersion and defocusing nonlinearity, while it cannot appear in instantaneous Kerr medium for the same case, and a new MI gain spectrum appears, adding to the conventional MI gain spectrum similar to that in an instantaneous Ker medium. In addition, the bandwidth of MI gain spectrum is extended and the maximum MI gain is reduced with increasing of the relaxation time. Interestingly, spatiotemporal MI can appear for any spatial frequencies in non-instantaneous Kerr medium for any combination of dispersion and nonlinearity. We have performed an experiment of MI in carbon disulfide (CS2), a typical non-instantaneous Kerr medium, which shows quantitative agreement with the theoretical analyses.  相似文献
