Let A be the generator of a uniformly bounded C 0-semigroup in a Banach space B, and let A have a densely defined inverse A -1 . We present sufficient conditions on the resolvent (A-I -1, Re > 0, under which A -1 is also the generator of a uniformly bounded C 0-semigroup.Dedicated to V. B. LetA be the transformation groupC *-algebra associated with an arbitrary orientation-preserving homeomorphism of . ThisC *-algebra contains an infinite family of projections, called Rieffel projections, each of which generates theK 0-groupK 0(A). Although these projections must beK-theoretically equivalent, it is easy to see that most are not Murray-von Neumann equivalent. The mystery of how large the matrix algebra must be to implement theK-theory equivalence, is solved by explicitly constructing the equivalence in the smallest possible algebra:A with unit adjoined.Partially supported by NSF Grant DMS 8901923.  相似文献

In this paper we find a closed form of the solution for the factored inhomogeneous linear equation
Under the hypothesis A 1, A 2, …, A n are infinitesimal generators of mutually commuting strongly continuous semigroups of bounded linear operators on a Banach space X. Here we do not assume that A j s are distinct and we offer the computational method to get explicit solutions of certain partial differential equations.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the proof of Lp -Lq decay estimates for solutions of the Cauchy problem for utt -λ2(t)b2(t)/Δu =0. The coefficient consists of an increasing smooth function λ and an oscillating smooth and bounded function b which are uniformly separated from zero. The authors‘ main interest is devoted to the critical case where one has an interesting interplay between the growing and the oscillating part.  相似文献

We show that every contractive C 0-semigroup on a separable, infinite-dimensional Hilbert space X can be approximated by unitary C 0-groups in the weak operator topology uniformly on compact subsets of ℝ+. As a consequence we get a new characterization of a bounded H -calculus for the negatives of generators of bounded holomorphic semigroups. Applications of our results to the study of a topological structure of the set of (almost) weakly stable contractive C 0-semigroups on X are also discussed. Employing Bak's dimension theory, we investigate the nonstable quadratic K-group K 1,2n (A, ) = G 2n (A, )/E 2n (A, ), n 3, where G 2n (A, ) denotes the general quadratic group of rank n over a form ring (A, ) and E 2n (A, ) its elementary subgroup. Considering form rings as a category with dimension in the sense of Bak, we obtain a dimension filtration G 2n (A, ) G 2n 0(A, ) ; G 2n 1(A, ) ... E 2n (A, ) of the general quadratic group G 2n (A, ) such that G 2n (A, )/G 2n 0(A, ) is Abelian, G 2n 0(A, ) G 2n 1(A, ) ... is a descending central series, and G 2n d(A)(A, ) = E 2n (A, ) whenever d(A) = (Bass–Serre dimension of A) is finite. In particular K 1,2n (A, ) is solvable when d(A) < .  相似文献

It is shown that an n × n matrix of continuous linear maps from a pro-C^*-algebra A to L(H), which verifies the condition of complete positivity, is of the form [V^*TijФ(·)V]^n i,where Ф is a representation of A on a Hilbert space K, V is a bounded linear operator from H to K, and j=1,[Tij]^n i,j=1 is a positive element in the C^*-algebra of all n×n matrices over the commutant of Ф(A) in L(K). This generalizes a result of C. Y.Suen in Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 112(3), 1991, 709-712. Also, a covariant version of this construction is given.  相似文献

Let −A be a linear, injective operator, on a Banach spaceX. We show that ∃ anH functional calculus forA if and only if −A generates a bouned strongly continuous holomorphic semigroup of uniform weak bounded variation, if and only ifA(ζ+A) −1 is of uniform weak bounded variation. This provides a sufficient condition for the imaginary powers ofA, {A−is} sεR, to extend to a strongly continuous group of bounded operators; we also give similar necessary conditions.  相似文献

It is shown in [4] that if a normal matrix,A satisfies some conditions then |C,1| k summability implies |A| k summability wherek≥1. In the present paper, we consider the converse implication.  相似文献

The Evens-Lu-Weinstein representation (Q A , D) for a Lie algebroid A on a manifold M is studied in the transitive case. To consider at the same time non-oriented manifolds as well, this representation is slightly modified to (Q A or , Dor) by tensoring by orientation flat line bundle, Q A or =QAor (M) and D or=D⊗∂ A or . It is shown that the induced cohomology pairing is nondegenerate and that the representation (Q A or , Dor) is the unique (up to isomorphy) line representation for which the top group of compactly supported cohomology is nontrivial. In the case of trivial Lie algebroid A=TM the theorem reduce to the following: the orientation flat bundle (or (M), ∂ A or ) is the unique (up to isomorphy) flat line bundle (ξ, ∇) for which the twisted de Rham complex of compactly supported differential forms on M with values in ξ possesses the nontrivial cohomology group in the top dimension. Finally it is obtained the characterization of transitive Lie algebroids for which the Lie algebroid cohomology with trivial coefficients (or with coefficients in the orientation flat line bundle) gives Poincaré duality. In proofs of these theorems for Lie algebroids it is used the Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence and it is shown the general fact concerning pairings between graded filtered differential ℝ-vector spaces: assuming that the second terms live in the finite rectangular, nondegeneration of the pairing for the second terms (which can be infinite dimensional) implies the same for cohomology spaces.  相似文献

Let (X, F) be an Alexandroff space, let A(F) be the Boolean subalgebra of 2 X generated by F, let G be a Hausdorff commutative topological lattice group and let rbaF(A(F), G) denote the set of all order bounded F-inner regular finitely additive set functions from A(F) into G. Using some special properties of the elements of rbaF(A(F), G), we extend to this setting the first decomposition theorem of Alexandroff.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that under theF 4 conditions, anyL log+ L bounded two-parameter Banach spece valued martingale converges almost surely to an integrable Banach space valued random variable if and only if the Banach space has the Radon-Nikodym property. We further prove that the above conclusion remains true if theF 4 condition is replaced by the weaker localF 4 condition. Let ℋ be a separable infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space, and let ℒ(H) denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators on ℋ into itself. Let A = (A 1, A 2,..., A n), B = (B 1, B 2,..., B n) be n-tuples of operators in ℒ(H); we define the elementary operators Δ A,B : ℒ(H) ↦ ℒ(H) by
. In this paper, we characterize the class of pairs of operators A, B ∈ ℒ(H) satisfying Putnam-Fuglede’s property, i.e, the class of pairs of operators A,B ∈ ℒ(H) such that implies for all TC 1 (H) (trace class operators). The main result is the equivalence between this property and the fact that the ultraweak closure of the range of the elementary operator ΔA,B is closed under taking adjoints. This leads us to give a new characterization of the orthogonality (in the sense of Birkhoff) of the range of an elementary operator and its kernel in C 1 classes. UniversalC*-algebrasC*(A) exist for certain topological *-algebras called algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. A Frechet *-algebraA has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if every operator representation ofA mapsA into bounded operators. This is proved by showing that every unbounded operator representation π, continuous in the uniform topology, of a topological *-algebraA, which is an inverse limit of Banach *-algebras, is a direct sum of bounded operator representations, thereby factoring through the enveloping pro-C*-algebraE(A) ofA. Given aC*-dynamical system (G,A,α), any topological *-algebraB containingC c (G,A) as a dense *-subalgebra and contained in the crossed productC*-algebraC*(G,A,α) satisfiesE(B) =C*(G,A,α). IfG = ℝ, ifB is an α-invariant dense Frechet *-subalgebra ofA such thatE(B) =A, and if the action α onB ism-tempered, smooth and by continuous *-automorphisms: then the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,B,α) satisfiesE(S(ℝ,B,α)) =C*(ℝ,A,α). WhenG is a Lie group, theC -elementsC (A), the analytic elementsC ω(A) as well as the entire analytic elementsC є(A) carry natural topologies making them algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. Given a non-unitalC*-algebraA, an inductive system of idealsI α is constructed satisfyingA =C*-ind limI α; and the locally convex inductive limit ind limI α is anm-convex algebra with theC*-enveloping algebraA and containing the Pedersen idealK a ofA. Given generatorsG with weakly Banach admissible relationsR, we construct universal topological *-algebraA(G, R) and show that it has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if (G, R) isC*-admissible.  相似文献

In this paper we consider not necessarily symmetric co-positive as well as semi-monotoneQ-matrices and give a set of sufficient conditions for such matrices to beR 0-matrices. We give several examples to show the sharpness of our results. Construction of these examples is based on the following elementary proposition: IfA is a square matrix of ordern whose first two rows are identical and bothA 11 andA 22 areQ-matrices whereA ii stands for the principal submatrix ofA obtained by deleting rowi and columni fromA, thenA is aQ-matrix.Dedicated to our colleague and friend B. We say that A has fractional powers {A t } t≥0 if there exists a nondegenerate C-regularized semigroup {W(t)} t≥0 such that A=C −1 W(1); then A t C −1 W(t). We show that this generalizes the usual definition of fractional powers for nonnegative operators, and enables many operators with spectrum containing the entire unit disc to have fractional powers. Our definition gives clear, simple proofs of the basic properties of fractional powers. We show that, for nonnegative operators, the fractional powers with the property that, if A is of type θ, then A t is of type t θ, whenever t θ<π, are unique. More generally, for injective GB(X) commuting with A, we show that an operator A of G-regularized type θ has a unique family of fractional powers with the property that A t is of G-regularized type t θ whenever t θ<π. This leads to a construction of fractional powers of operators with polynomially bounded resolvent outside of an appropriate sector. We show that an operator is of regularized type if and only if it has exponentially bounded regularized imaginary powers. Let X be a connected finite CW complex. We show that, given a positive homomorphism Hom(K *(C(X)), K *(A)) with [1 C(X)][1 A ], where A is a unital separable simple C *-algebra with real rank zero, stable rank one and weakly unperforated K 0(A), there exists a homomorphism h: C(X)A such that h induces . We also prove a structure result for unital separable simple C *-algebras A with real rank zero, stable rank one and weakly unperforated K 0(A), namely, there exists a simple AH-algebra of real rank zero contained in A which determines the K-theory of A.  相似文献

We are concerned here with certain Banach algebras of operators contained within a fixed II factor N. These algebras may be thought of as noncommutative classifying spaces for the functor Ext * N The basic objects of study are the algebras A kN (for n=1, 2,...). Here, we are given an essentially unique representation of the complex Clifford algebra C k N and the elements of A k are those operators in N which exactly commute with the first k–1 generators of C k and also commute with the kth generator modulo a symmetric ideal N. Up to isomorphism, these algebras are periodic with period 2.We determine completely the homotopy types of A 1 –1 and A 2 –1 Here, A 1 –1 is homotopy equivalent to the space of (Breuer) Fredholm operators in N, while A 2 –1 is homotopy equivalent to the group K N –1 ={x N–1¦ x=1+k, k KN}. We use these results to compute the K-theory of A 1 and A 2.For a fixed C *-algebra A, we define abelian groups G k,N(A) of equivalence classes of homomorphisms AA k. Letting N = M (H) for a II1 factor M we define similar abelian groups G k(A, M) where we replace N by L(E) for countably generated right Hilbert M-modules E with (left) actions C k L(E). Using ideas of Skandalis, we show that G k,NGk(A, M) so that the G k,N are stable half-exact homotopy functors because the G k(·, M) are such.In general, we show that G k(A, M)KK k(A, M) and so our theory fits neatly into Kasparov KK-theory. We investigate many interesting examples from our point of view.  相似文献
