We find bright and dark solitary wave solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation with cubic–quintic–septic terms adopting the ansatz solution of Li et al. [Li Z, Li L, Tian H, Zhou G. Phys. New types of solitary wave solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Phys Rev Lett 2000;84(18):4096–99.] which may describe propagation of pulses upto the order of 10 fs in a non-Kerr media. In this context, we have taken into account both the Raman and the self-steepening effect. All the solitary wave parameters and the parametric conditions for the solitary wave solutions are worked out.  相似文献

We consider the higher-order dispersive nonlinear Schrödinger equation including fourth-order dispersion effects and a quintic nonlinearity. This equation describes the propagation of femtosecond light pulses in a medium that exhibits a parabolic nonlinearity law. By adopting the ansatz solution of Li et al. [Zhonghao Li, Lu Li, Huiping Tian, Guosheng Zhou. New types of solitary wave solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Phys Rev Lett 2000;84:4096], we find two different solitary wave solutions under certain parametric conditions. These solutions are in the form of bright and dark soliton solutions.  相似文献

By using coupled amplitude-phase formulation, we construct the quartic anharmonic oscillator equation from the coupled higher order nonlinear Schrödinger equation. For arbitrary physical parameter values, we discuss the construction of new cnoidal wave solutions and the exact solutions of both bright (GVD < 0) and dark (GVD < 0) solitary waves. In addition, we investigate the pairs of dark–dark and bright–bright solitary waves.  相似文献

We present a method to prove nonlinear instability of solitary waves in dispersive models. Two examples are analyzed: we prove the nonlinear long time instability of the KdV solitary wave (with respect to periodic transverse perturbations) under a KP-I flow and the transverse nonlinear instability of solitary waves for the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation.  相似文献

In this paper, coexistence and simplified formulations of the solitary waves of the cubic–quintic non-linear Schrödinger equation (CQNLS) are investigated by analyzing the steady bifurcation and the energy integral of the conservative dynamical system satisfied by the wave packet. It is found that the bright solitary waves can coexist with kinks and anti-kinks in a range of the bifurcation control parameter. There exists a critical parameter value at which the dark solitary waves are distinguished from the bright solitary waves, kinks and anti-kinks. All of the simplified solitary wave solutions, kinks and anti-kinks are obtained by using our previously developed approximate method.  相似文献

The exact analytical solution of the optical soliton equation with higher-order dispersion and nonlinear effects has been obtained by the method of separating variables. The new type of optical solitary wave solution, which is quite different from the bright and dark soliton solutions, has been found under two special cases. The stability of the solitary wave solutions for the optical soliton equation is discussed. Some new conclusion of the stability are obtained, for the solitary wave solutions of the nonlinear wave equations, by using the Liapunov direct method.  相似文献

Recent theoretical advances in connecting the wave‐induced mean flow with the conserved pseudomomentum per unit mass has permitted the first rational derivation of a model that describes the weakly nonlinear propagation of internal gravity plane waves in a continuously stratified fluid. Depending on the particular parameter regime examined the new model corresponds to an extended bright or dark derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation or an extended complex‐valued modified Korteweg‐de Vries or Sasa–Satsuma equation. Mass, momentum, and energy conservation laws are derived. A noncanonical infinite‐dimensional Hamiltonian formulation of the model is introduced. The modulational stability characteristics associated with the Stokes wave solution of the model are described. The bright and dark solitary wave solutions of the model are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the fourth‐order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with parameterized nonlinearity that is generalized from regular cubic‐quintic formulation in optics and ultracold physics scenario. We find the exact solution of the fourth‐order generalized cubic‐quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation through modified F‐expansion method, identifying the particular bright soliton behavior under certain external experimental setting, with the system's particular nonlinear features demonstrated. A generalized method, which is called the generally projective Riccati equation method, is presented to find more exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations based upon a coupled Riccati equation. As an application of the method, we choose the higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation to illustrate the method. As a result more new exact travelling wave solutions are found which include bright soliton solutions, dark soliton solution, new solitary waves, periodic solutions and rational solutions. The new method can be extended to other nonlinear differential equations in mathematical physics.  相似文献

We provide a simple proof of the existence of dark solitons of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic inhomogeneous nonlinearity. Moreover, our proof allows for a broader class of inhomogeneities and gives some new properties of the solutions. We also apply our approach to the defocusing cubic–quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a periodic potential.  相似文献

Propagation of nonlinear shear horizontal (SH) waves in a homogeneous, isotropic and incompressible elastic plate of uniform thickness is considered. The constituent material of the plate is assumed to be generalized neo-Hookean. By employing a perturbation method and balancing the weak nonlinearity and dispersion in the analysis, it is shown that the nonlinear modulation of waves is governed asymptotically by a nonlinear Schr?dinger (NLS) equation. Then the effect of nonlinearity on the propagation characteristics of asymptotic waves is discussed on the basis of this equation. It is found that, irrespective of the plate thickness, the wave number and the mode number, when the plate material is softening in shear then the nonlinear plane periodic waves are unstable under infinitesimal perturbations and therefore the bright (envelope) solitary SH waves will exist and propagate in such a plate. But if the plate material is hardening in shear in this case nonlinear plane periodic waves are stable and only the dark solitary SH waves may exist.  相似文献

In the present work, we study the generation of nonlinear modulated waves in a modified version of Noguchi electrical tr ansmission network. In the continuum limit, we have considered the semi discrete approximation and showed that wave modulations in the network are governed by a generalized Chen-Lee-Liu (G-CLL) equation whose “self steepening” parameter is free from line parameters. We have investigated the effects of the “self steepening” parameter of the equation on the dynamics of modulated waves propagating in the network and shown that it can be adequately used either to enhance or to soften the instability of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. Our investigations showed that the introduction of the “self steepening” term in the NLS equation of the network allows bright and dark solitonlike waves to coexist in the same modulational stable and unstable frequency regions of the NLS. Our analytical studies of the G-CLL equation of the network showed that the amplitude of the solitonlike waves propagating in the network decreases as the “self steepening” parameter of the G-CLL equation increases.  相似文献

We describe a computational method to compute spectra and slowly decaying eigenfunctions of linearizations of the cubic–quintic complex Ginzburg–Landau equation about numerically determined stationary solutions. We compare the results of the method to a formula for an edge bifurcation obtained using the small dissipation perturbation theory of Kapitula and Sandstede. This comparison highlights the importance for analytical studies of perturbed nonlinear wave equations of using a pulse ansatz in which the phase is not constant, but rather depends on the perturbation parameter. In the presence of large dissipative effects, we discover variations in the structure of the spectrum as the dispersion crosses zero that are not predicted by the small dissipation theory. In particular, in the normal dispersion regime we observe a jump in the number of discrete eigenvalues when a pair of real eigenvalues merges with the intersection point of the two branches of the continuous spectrum. Finally, we contrast the method to computational Evans function methods.  相似文献

This paper studies optical solitons with non-Kerr law nonlinearity, in the presence of inter-modal dispersion. The coefficients of group velocity dispersion, nonlinearity and inter-modal dispersion terms have time-dependent coefficients. The types of nonlinearity that are considered are Kerr, power, parabolic and dual-power laws. The solitary wave ansatz is used to carry out the integration of the governing nonlinear Schrödinger’s equation with time-dependent coefficients. Both, bright and dark optical solitons, are considered, in this paper. Finally, numerical simulations are also given in each of these cases. The only necessary condition for these solitons to exist is that these time-dependent coefficients of group velocity dispersion and inter-modal dispersion are Riemann integrable.  相似文献

We examine the possibility to generate localized structures in effectively one-dimensional Gross–Pitaevskii with a time-dependent scattering length and a complicated potential. Through analytical methods invoking a generalized lens-type transformation and the Darboux transformation, we present the integrable condition for the Gross–Pitaevskii equation and obtain the exact analytical solution which describes the modulational instability and the propagation of bright solitary waves on a continuous wave background. The dynamics and stability of this solution are analyzed. Moreover, by employing the extended tanh-function method we obtain the exact analytical solutions which describes the propagation of dark and other families of solitary waves.  相似文献

In this study, we use two direct algebraic methods to solve a fourth-order dispersive cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which is used to describe the propagation of optical pulse in a medium exhibiting a parabolic nonlinearity law. By using complex envelope ansatz method, we first obtain a new dark soliton and bright soliton, which may approach nonzero when the time variable approaches infinity. Then a series of analytical exact solutions are constructed by means of F-expansion method. These solutions include solitary wave solutions of the bell shape, solitary wave solutions of the kink shape, and periodic wave solutions of Jacobian elliptic function.  相似文献

We consider linear instability of solitary waves of several classes of dispersive long wave models. They include generalizations of KDV, BBM, regularized Boussinesq equations, with general dispersive operators and nonlinear terms. We obtain criteria for the existence of exponentially growing solutions to the linearized problem. The novelty is that we dealt with models with nonlocal dispersive terms, for which the spectra problem is out of reach by the Evans function technique. For the proof, we reduce the linearized problem to study a family of nonlocal operators, which are closely related to properties of solitary waves. A continuation argument with a moving kernel formula is used to find the instability criteria. These techniques have also been extended to study instability of periodic waves and of the full water wave problem.  相似文献

Coupled-Nonlinear Schrödinger equations, linked by cross modulation terms, arise in both nonlinear optics and in Rossby waves in the atmosphere and ocean. In this paper, we derive exact, analytic solutions for the “bright” coupled-mode soliton, for which the envelope in each mode asymptotes to zero at spatial infinity, and for its spatially periodic generalization. We then numerically study the collisions of the coupled-mode solitary wave both with a conventional envelope soliton, confined to a single mode, and also with a second coupled-mode solitary wave. The collisions are sensitive to both the relative speed and phase of the solitons. In some parameter ranges, the collisions are nearly elastic, but in others, one or both solitons fission.  相似文献

Exact solutions of nonlinear generalizations of the wave equation are constructed. In some cases these solutions are solitary waves or solitions. Thus, by explicit construction solitons or solitary waves are shown to exist in dispersionless systems. In contrast to previous solitary wave solutions, these solutions are limiting cases of solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations with dispersion.  相似文献
