The performance characteristics (i.e., ion abundance and electrospray ion current) of a flared and blunt-ended heated metal capillary were evaluated with a voltage-assisted air amplifier on a linear ion trap mass spectrometer (LTQ-MS). The results demonstrated that a standard capillary afforded higher ion abundance than a flared capillary, thus further work is necessary to investigate conditions for which significant benefits with the flared capillary will be observed. The compatibility of a voltage-assisted air amplifier is explored for both types of capillaries and in all cases resulted in improved ion abundance and spray current.  相似文献

Atomistic molecular dynamics simulations were performed on 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium azide [bmim][N(3)], 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium azide [bmmim][N(3)], and 1-butynyl-3-methyl-imidazolium azide [bumim][N(3)] ionic liquids. The many-body polarizable APPLE&P force field was augmented with parameters for the azide anion and the bumim cation. Good agreement between the experimentally determined and simulated crystal structure of [bumim][N(3)] as well as the liquid-state density and ionic conductivity of [bmmim][N(3)] were found. Methylation of bmim (yielding bmmim) resulted in dramatic changes in ion structuring in the liquid and slowing of ion motion. Conversely, replacing the butyl group of bmim with the smaller 2-butynyl group resulted in an increase of ion dynamics.  相似文献

The effect of fringing fields on the divergence of the ion beam exiting an RF quadrupole ion guide was studied using a computer simulation. It was shown that reducing the strength of the RF field towards the ion guide exit reduces ion beam divergence. Further improvement was demonstrated when creating a DC gradient towards the exit. The results of the numerical simulation were verified experimentally using a time-of-flight (TOF) mass analyzer with orthogonal acceleration. Decreasing the ion beam divergence resulted in considerably improved mass resolution of the instrument.  相似文献

The use of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvents in electrospray ionization (ESI) is suggested for the analysis of hydrophobic compounds. Its use was shown to overcome solubility problems and resulted in good quality electrospray spectra of protected hydrophobic peptides, sugars and other hydrophobic compounds. Intense protonated and/or sodiated molecules were formed in positive ion mode while negative ion mode resulted in [M + 95](-) ions from DMSO and [M + Cl](-) ions from DMF in cases where no significant molecular ion related peaks could be observed applying commonly used protic solvents such as methanol or acetonitrile. Deuterium labeling (d6-DMSO), high resolution experiments and tandem mass spectrometric measurements showed that the methanesulfonic acid (MSA), present in DMSO as a common impurity, is responsible for the formation of protonated molecules in positive ion mode and for methane sulfonate anion adducts [M + 95](-) in negative ion mode.  相似文献

A heated capillary tube combined with a radio-frequency-only quadrupole has been coupled with a home- made, high-resolution orthogonal-injection, time-of-flight mass spectrometer to improve ion transmission from the atmospheric pressure to the low--pressure regions. With an electrospray ion source, the performance of the interface on the intensity of spectra was investigated. For electrospray ionization, the ion intensity detected on the time-of- flight mass spectrometer was seen to increase three-fold compared with an orifice interface. It has been shown that the enhanced ion inlet designs can not only increase the ion translation efficiency, but also improve the detection limits of the mass spectrometer. Coupling atmospheric pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization with the improved interface resulted in an instrument detection limit as low as 2.5 fmol.  相似文献

Conducting polymers, i.e., electroactive conjugated polymers, are useful both as ion‐to‐electron transducers and as sensing membranes in solid‐state ion‐selective electrodes. Recent achievements over the last few years have resulted in significant improvements of the analytical performance of solid‐contact ion‐selective electrodes (solid‐contact ISEs) based on conducting polymers as ion‐to‐electron transducer combined with polymeric ion‐selective membranes. A significant amount of research has also been devoted to solid‐state ISEs based on conducting polymers as the sensing membrane. This review gives a brief summary of the progress in the area in recent years.  相似文献

The trapped-ion cell is a key component critical for optimal performance in Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry (MS). To extend the performance of FT-ICR MS, we have developed a new cell design that is capable of generating a DC trapping potential which closely approaches that of an ideal Penning trap, i.e., a 3D axial quadrupolar potential distribution. The new cell design was built upon an open cylindrical geometry, supplemented with two pairs of cylindrical compensation segments. Electric potential calculations for trial cell geometries were aimed at minimizing spatial variations of the radial electric field divided by radius. The resulting cell proportions and compensation voltages delivered practically constant effective ion cyclotron frequency that was independent of ion radial and axial positions. Our customized 12 tesla FT-ICR instrument was upgraded with the new cell, and the performance was characterized for a range of ion excitation power and ion populations. Operating the compensated cell at increased postexcitation radii, approximately 0.7 of the cell inner radius, resulted in improved mass measurement accuracy together with increased signal intensity. Under these same operating conditions the noncompensated open cell configuration exhibited peak splitting and reduced signal life time. Mass accuracy tests using 11 calibrants covering a wide m/z range reproducibly produced under 0.05 ppm RMS precision of the internal calibration for reduced ion populations and the optimal excitation radius. Conditions of increased ion population resulted in a twofold improvement in mass accuracy compared with the noncompensated cell, due to the larger achievable excitation radii and correspondingly lower space charge related perturbations of the calibration law.  相似文献

In this communication, the structural analysis of six synthetic O-Linked amphiphilic cholesteryl polyethoxy neoglycolipids containing N-acetyl-D-glucosamine was performed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in the positive ion mode, with a QqTOF-MS/MS hybrid instrument. The MS/MS analyses provided evidence for the "in situ" formation, in the collision cell of the tandem mass spectrometer, of an unexpected and unique [C-glycoside]+ product ion, resulting from an ion-molecule reaction between the N-acetyl-D-glucosamine oxonium ion and the neutral cholesta-3,5-diene molecule. Quasi MS3 analysis of this ion resulted in the dissociation of the precursor [C-glycoside]+ ion, which produced the expected third generation N-acetyl-D-glucosamine oxonium and the protonated cholesta-3,5-diene product ions.  相似文献

The extent of internal hydrogen exchange (scrambling) within multiply charged solvent-free protein ions was investigated using a small model protein. The site-specific backbone amide protection data were obtained using protein ion fragmentation in the gas phase and compared with the available NMR data. Only minimal scrambling was detected when relatively high-energy collisional activation was used to fragment intact protein ions, while low-energy fragmentation resulted in more significant but not random internal exchange. Increased conformational flexibility of protein ions in the gas phase did not have any effect on the extent of hydrogen scrambling under the conditions of higher-energy collisional activation but resulted in totally random redistribution of labile hydrogen atoms when the protein ion fragmentation was induced by multiple low-energy collisions.  相似文献

Doubly charged ion mass spectra of 22 amines (2–10 carbon atoms) were determined using an Hitachi RMU-7L double focusing mass spectrometer. Molecular ions were not observed in the spectra of aliphatic amines. The most intense product ion peaks in the spectra of lower molecular weight amines resulted from hydrogen elimination from the molecular ion; however, as amine molecular weight increased the largest peaks resulted from both hydrogen and heavy atom elimination from the molecular ion. Dominant ions in the doubly charged ion spectra of lower molecular weight aliphatic amines were from reactions of [CnH3N]2+ (n:=2, 3, 4) type ions. The spectra of higher molecular weight aliphatic amines spanned a wide mass range. Appearance energies for some of the more prominent ions were measured in the range from 25 to 49 eV. A geometry optimized quantum mechanical self-consistent field molecular orbital treatment was used to compute the energies and structural parameters of prominent ions in the doubly charged ion mass spectra.  相似文献

s-Triazolo[4,3-a]pyrazine underwent decomposition by loss of nitrogen from its molecular ion whereas in the 3-alkyl derivatives the corresponding alkyl cyanide was eliminated from the 5-membered ring. The introduction of a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group into the 3-position resulted in predominant loss of the triazole ring in the fragmentation process; however, with a 3-amino substituent, the first fragment eliminated from the molecular ion was cyanamide. Methyl substitution in the 6-membered ring resulted in the formation of ring expanded ions. On phenyl substitution, however, an interesting 1,2-phenyl migration was observed. The mass spectra of several analogous s-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrazines are also described.  相似文献

The triplet state of benzophenone was quenched by the tetrabutylammonium salt of (phenylthio)acetic acid in acetonitrile solutions. The quenching event, following laser flash photolysis, resulted in the formation of a transient ion pair consisting of the benzophenone radical anion and the tetrabutylammonium cation. Subsequently this ion pair decays with the quaternary ammonium cation undergoing a Hofmann elimination to form butane-1 and tributylamine, which were detected in steady-state irradiation. This appears to be the first report of an ion pair consisting of a benzophenone radical anion and an organic cation (nonradical), in addition to the first report of a photoinduced Hofmann elimination in quaternary ammonium ions.  相似文献

A comprehensive literature survey on the radiation stability of ion exchangers resulted in the publication of an extensive data compilation on the effects of ionizing radiation on synthetic organic ion exchangers in this journal (Vol. 97, No. 1). This paper is a brief review of the majorfindings of this literature survey along with similar information on synthetic inorganic ion exchangers. The primary goal of this literature survey is to review present knowledge on the effects of ionizing radiations on synthetic ion exchange materials used in radiochemical processing. Although there are gaps in our knowledge of the mechanisms of radiolytic changes in ion exchangers, the information available in the literature shows some general trends and similarities in observed qualitative effects by different types of organic and inorganic ion exchange materials. These trends and observations have been formulated into a set of qualitative and semi-quantitative statements that can be useful to potential users of ion exchange materials in nuclear material processing and radioactive waste management. Present knowledge, of the behavior of ion exchangers under the influence of ionizing radiations is too limited to justify quantitative predictive modeling.  相似文献

Tweezer-type and non-tweezer-type ionophores containing dithiocarbamoyl groups on a 7-deoxycholic amide or cholane derivatives were designed and synthesized. Potentiometric evaluation of the poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membranes containing those deoxycholic amides/cholanes linked with tweezer-type dithiocarbamoyl moieties showed excellent affinity and selectivity to silver(I) ion over alkali, alkaline earth and other transition metal cations. On the other hand, deoxycholic amides/cholanes substituted with one dithiocarbamoyl group, i.e., non-tweezer-type ionophores, resulted in relatively poor potentiometric sensitivity and detection limits. The enhanced potentiometric properties of newly synthesized tweezer-type dithiocarbamoyl containing ionophores have been further improved by employing silver ion complexing reagent in the internal reference solution, which resulted in greatly reduced detection limit (∼100 ppt) for the electrodes based on them.  相似文献

Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis by Selective Ion Monitoring (SIM) was applied to quantify 4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone (HDMF) in both red and white wines obtained from some Italian cultivar of Vitis vinifera. Wines were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction performed with 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane (Freon 113). The ion m/z 128 was used for quantification while the ion m/z 129 as qualifier. Precision, linearity and accuracy of the method resulted satisfactory. Results showed a significant variation in the concentration of furaneol in wine with grape variety. Generally, HDMF concentrations in white wines were lower than in red wines. Among white wines, Chardonnay resulted characterized by the highest concentration of HDMF. Among red wines the highest concentrations of HDMF were detected in Primitivo and Refosco varieties.  相似文献

The increasing tendency to miniaturize analytical techniques has resulted in the widespread use of nanoelectrospray ionization mass spectrometry. A new polyaniline-coated nanoelectrospray emitter has shown increasing promise as a more durable and stable alternative to traditional metal-coated emitters. In this report, the utility of polyaniline-coated nanoelectrospray emitters in the negative ion mode is investigated. Here, oligonucleotides and peptides have been ionized in the negative mode using polyaniline-coated nanoelectrospray emitters. The emitters were found to be durable for at least an hour in the negative ion mode, during which time the signal was stable. The high amount of electrical discharge usually associated with negative ion mode nanoelectrospray was not problematic with the polyaniline-coated emitters. These characteristics make possible the reliable coupling of low-flow separations to negative ion nanoelectrospray without the worry of emitter failure during the course of the experiment.  相似文献

The reaction between CoCl2 x 6H2O and 2-1-(2-thiazolylazo)-p-cresol (TAC) in acetone resulted in six coordinated cobalt(III) complex, [Co(TAC)2]Cl3. Two TAC ligands coordinate with cobalt ion forming four five membered chelate rings. The cobalt ion is octahedrally coordinated by a phenolic oxygen, azo nitrogen and nitrogen in thiazole rings.
