Let {Vk} be a nested sequence of closed subspaces that constitute a multiresolution analysis of L2( ). We characterize the family Φ = {φ} where each φ generates this multiresolution analysis such that the two-scale relation of φ is governed by a finite sequence. In particular, we identify the ε Φ that has minimum support. We also characterize the collection Ψ of functions η such that each η generates the orthogonal complementary subspaces Wk of Vk, . In particular, the minimally supported ψ ε Ψ is determined. Hence, the “B-spline” and “B-wavelet” pair (, ψ) provides the most economical and computational efficient “spline” representations and “wavelet” decompositions of L2 functions from the “spline” spaces Vk and “wavelet” spaces Wk, k . A very general duality principle, which yields the dual bases of both {(·−j):j and {η(·−j):j } for any η ε Ψ by essentially interchanging the pair of two-scale sequences with the pair of decomposition sequences, is also established. For many filtering applications, it is very important to select a multiresolution for which both and ψ have linear phases. Hence, “non-symmetric” and ψ, such as the compactly supported orthogonal ones introduced by Daubechies, are sometimes undesirable for these applications. Conditions on linear-phase φ and ψ are established in this paper. In particular, even-order polynomial B-splines and B-wavelets φm and ψm have linear phases, but the odd-order B-wavelet only has generalized linear phases.  相似文献

In this paper, for a given d×d expansive matrix M with |detM| = 2, we investigate the compactly supported M-wavelets for L 2(ℝ d ). Starting with a pair of compactly supported refinable functions ϕ and [(j)\tilde]\tilde \varphi satisfying a mild condition, we obtain an explicit construction of a compactly supported wavelet ψ such that {2 j/2 ψ(M j · −k): j ∈ ℤ, k ∈ ℤd} forms a Riesz basis for L 2(ℝ d ). The (anti-)symmetry of such ψ is studied, and some examples are also provided.  相似文献

Let f: be a continuous, 2π-periodic function and for each n ε let tn(f; ·) denote the trigonometric polynomial of degree n interpolating f in the points 2kπ/(2n + 1) (k = 0, ±1, …, ±n). It was shown by J. Marcinkiewicz that limn → ∞0¦f(θ) − tn(f θ)¦p dθ = 0 for every p > 0. We consider Lagrange interpolation of non-periodic functions by entire functions of exponential type τ > 0 in the points kπ/τ (k = 0, ± 1, ± 2, …) and obtain a result analogous to that of Marcinkiewicz.  相似文献

It is shown that the discrete Calderón condition characterizes completeness of orthonormal wavelet systems, for arbitrary real dilations. That is, if a>1,b>0, and the system Ψ={aj/2ψ(ajxbk):j,k } is orthonormal in L2( ), then Ψ is a basis for L2( ) if and only if ∑j | (ajξ)|2=b for almost every ξ . A new proof of the Second Oversampling Theorem is found, by similar methods.  相似文献

Compactly Supported Tight Frames Associated with Refinable Functions   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
It is well known that in applied and computational mathematics, cardinal B-splines play an important role in geometric modeling (in computer-aided geometric design), statistical data representation (or modeling), solution of differential equations (in numerical analysis), and so forth. More recently, in the development of wavelet analysis, cardinal B-splines also serve as a canonical example of scaling functions that generate multiresolution analyses of L2(−∞,∞). However, although cardinal B-splines have compact support, their corresponding orthonormal wavelets (of Battle and Lemarie) have infinite duration. To preserve such properties as self-duality while requiring compact support, the notion of tight frames is probably the only replacement of that of orthonormal wavelets. In this paper, we study compactly supported tight frames Ψ={ψ1,…,ψN} for L2(−∞,∞) that correspond to some refinable functions with compact support, give a precise existence criterion of Ψ in terms of an inequality condition on the Laurent polynomial symbols of the refinable functions, show that this condition is not always satisfied (implying the nonexistence of tight frames via the matrix extension approach), and give a constructive proof that when Ψ does exist, two functions with compact support are sufficient to constitute Ψ, while three guarantee symmetry/anti-symmetry, when the given refinable function is symmetric.  相似文献

In this paper, biorthogonal wavelets are constructed on nonuniform meshes. Both primal and dual wavelets are locally supported, continuous piecewise polynomials. The wavelets generate Riesz bases for the Sobolev spaces (Hs) for (|s| < 3/2). The wavelets at the primal side span standard Lagrange finite element spaces.  相似文献

In this paper we shall characterize Sobolev spaces of an arbitrary order of smoothness using nonstationary tight wavelet frames for L 2(ℝ). In particular, we show that a Sobolev space of an arbitrary fixed order of smoothness can be characterized in terms of the weighted ℓ2-norm of the analysis wavelet coefficient sequences using a fixed compactly supported nonstationary tight wavelet frame in L 2(ℝ) derived from masks of pseudosplines in [15]. This implies that any compactly supported nonstationary tight wavelet frame of L 2(ℝ) in [15] can be properly normalized into a pair of dual frames in the corresponding pair of dual Sobolev spaces of an arbitrary fixed order of smoothness. Treated in this paper is the problem of estimating with squared error loss the generalized variance | Σ | from a Wishart random matrix S: p × p Wp(n, Σ) and an independent normal random matrix X: p × k N(ξ, Σ Ik) with ξ(p × k) unknown. Denote the columns of X by X(1) ,…, X(k) and set ψ(0)(S, X) = {(np + 2)!/(n + 2)!} | S |, ψ(i)(X, X) = min[ψ(i−1)(S, X), {(np + i + 2)!/(n + i + 2)!} | S + X(1) X(1) + + X(i) X(i) |] and Ψ(i)(S, X) = min[ψ(0)(S, X), {(np + i + 2)!/(n + i + 2)!}| S + X(1) X(1) + + X(i) X(i) |], i = 1,…,k. Our result is that the minimax, best affine equivariant estimator ψ(0)(S, X) is dominated by each of Ψ(i)(S, X), i = 1,…,k and for every i, ψ(i)(S, X) is better than ψ(i−1)(S, X). In particular, ψ(k)(S, X) = min[{(np + 2)!/(n + 2)!} | S |, {(np + 2)!/(n + 2)!} | S + X(1)X(1)|,…,| {(np + k + 2)!/(n + k + 2)!} | S + X(1)X(1) + + X(k)X(k)|] dominates all other ψ's. It is obtained by considering a multivariate extension of Stein's result (Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 16, 155–160 (1964)) on the estimation of the normal variance.  相似文献

For an integer k 1 and a geometric mesh (qi)−∞ with q ε (0, ∞), let Mi,k(x): = k[qi + k](· − x)+k − 1, Ni,k(x): = (qi + kqiMi,k(x)/k, and let Ak(q) be the Gram matrix (∝Mi,kNj,k)i,jεz. It is known that Ak(q)−1 is bounded independently of q. In this paper it is shown that Ak(q)−1 is strictly decreasing for q in [1, ∞). In particular, the sharp upper bound and lower bound for Ak (q)−1 are obtained: for all q ε (0, ∞).  相似文献

Construction of multivariate compactly supported orthonormal wavelets   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We propose a constructive method to find compactly supported orthonormal wavelets for any given compactly supported scaling function φ in the multivariate setting. For simplicity, we start with a standard dilation matrix 2I2×2 in the bivariate setting and show how to construct compactly supported functions ψ1,. . .,ψn with n>3 such that {2kψj(2kx−ℓ,2kym), k,ℓ,mZ, j=1,. . .,n} is an orthonormal basis for L2(ℝ2). Here, n is dependent on the size of the support of φ. With parallel processes in modern computer, it is possible to use these orthonormal wavelets for applications. Furthermore, the constructive method can be extended to construct compactly supported multi-wavelets for any given compactly supported orthonormal multi-scaling vector. Finally, we mention that the constructions can be generalized to the multivariate setting. Dedicated to Professor Charles A. Micchelli on the occasion of his 60th birthday Mathematics subject classifications (2000) 42C15, 42C30.  相似文献

We define a contravariant functorKfrom the category of finite graphs and graph morphisms to the category of finitely generated graded abelian groups and homomorphisms. For a graphX, an abelian groupB, and a nonnegative integerj, an element of Hom(Kj(X), B) is a coherent family ofB-valued flows on the set of all graphs obtained by contracting some (j − 1)-set of edges ofX; in particular, Hom(K1(X), ) is the familiar (real) “cycle-space” ofX. We show thatK · (X) is torsion-free and that its Poincaré polynomial is the specializationtnkTX(1/t, 1 + t) of the Tutte polynomial ofX(hereXhasnvertices andkcomponents). Functoriality ofK · induces a functorial coalgebra structure onK · (X); dualizing, for any ringBwe obtain a functorialB-algebra structure on Hom(K · (X), B). WhenBis commutative we present this algebra as a quotient of a divided power algebra, leading to some interesting inequalities on the coefficients of the above Poincaré polynomial. We also provide a formula for the theta function of the lattice of integer-valued flows inX, and conclude with 10 open problems.  相似文献

We present in this paper a dynamic binary coding scheme α on CNF formulas ψ, and show that under a uniform distribution μα on binary string α(ψ), SAT is complete on average, where μα(ψ) is proportional to α(ψ)−22α(ψ). We then show that there is k0>2 such that for all kk0, kSAT under μα is complete on average.  相似文献

Le nombre maximal de lignes de matrices seront désignées par:
1. (a) R(k, λ) si chaque ligne est une permutation de nombres 1, 2,…, k et si chaque deux lignes différentes coïncide selon λ positions;
2. (b) S0(k, λ) si le nombre de colonnes est k et si chaque deux lignes différentes coïncide selon λ positions et si, en plus, il existe une colonne avec les éléments y1, y2, y3, ou y1 = y2y3;

Upper and lower bounds for generalized Christoffel functions, called Freud-Christoffel functions, are obtained. These have the form λn,p(W,j,x) = infPWLp(R)/|P(j)(X)| where the infimum is taken over all polynomials P(x) of degree at most n − 1. The upper and lower bounds for λn,p(W,j,x) are obtained for all 0 < p ∞ and J = 0, 1, 2, 3,… for weights W(x) = exp(−Q(x)), where, among other things, Q(x) is bounded in [− A, A], and Q″ is continuous in β(−A, A) for some A > 0. For p = ∞, the lower bounds give a simple proof of local and global Markov-Bernstein inequalities. For p = 2, the results remove some restrictions on Q in Freud's work. The weights considered include W(x) = exp(− ¦x¦α/2), α > 0, and W(x) = exp(− expx¦)), > 0.  相似文献

Greedily Finding a Dense Subgraph   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Given an n-vertex graph with nonnegative edge weights and a positive integer k ≤ n, our goal is to find a k-vertex subgraph with the maximum weight. We study the following greedy algorithm for this problem: repeatedly remove a vertex with the minimum weighted-degree in the currently remaining graph, until exactly k vertices are left. We derive tight bounds on the worst case approximation ratio R of this greedy algorithm: (1/2 + n/2k)2 − O(n − 1/3) ≤ R ≤ (1/2 + n/2k)2 + O(1/n) for k in the range n/3 ≤ k ≤ n and 2(n/k − 1) − O(1/k) ≤ R ≤ 2(n/k − 1) + O(n/k2) for k < n/3. For k = n/2, for example, these bounds are 9/4 ± O(1/n), improving on naive lower and upper bounds of 2 and 4, respectively. The upper bound for general k compares well with currently the best (and much more complicated) approximation algorithm based on semidefinite programming.  相似文献

Let {Xn} be a strictly stationary φ-mixing process with Σj=1 φ1/2(j) < ∞. It is shown in the paper that if X1 is uniformly distributed on the unit interval, then, for any t [0, 1], |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = O(n−3/4(log log n)3/4) a.s. and sup0≤t≤1 |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = (O(n−3/4(log n)1/2(log log n)1/4) a.s., where Fn and Fn−1(t) denote the sample distribution function and tth sample quantile, respectively. In case {Xn} is strong mixing with exponentially decaying mixing coefficients, it is shown that, for any t [0, 1], |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = O(n−3/4(log n)1/2(log log n)3/4) a.s. and sup0≤t≤1 |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = O(n−3/4(log n)(log log n)1/4) a.s. The results are further extended to general distributions, including some nonregular cases, when the underlying distribution function is not differentiable. The results for φ-mixing processes give the sharpest possible orders in view of the corresponding results of Kiefer for independent random variables.  相似文献

In this paper matching upper and lower bounds for broadcast on general purpose parallel computation models that exploit network locality are proven. These models try to capture both the general purpose properties of models like the PRAM or BSP on the one hand, and to exploit network locality of special purpose models like meshes, hypercubes, etc., on the other hand. They do so by charging a cost l(|ij|) for a communication between processors i and j, where l is a suitably chosen latency function.An upper bound T(p)=∑i=0loglogp2i·l(p1/2i) on the runtime of a broadcast on a p processor H-PRAM is given, for an arbitrary latency function l(k).The main contribution of the paper is a matching lower bound, holding for all latency functions in the range from l(k)=Ω(logk/loglogk) to l(k)=O(log2k). This is not a severe restriction since for latency functions l(k)=O(logk/log1+log(k)) with arbitrary >0, the runtime of the algorithm matches the trivial lower bound Ω(logp) and for l(k)=Θ(log1+k) or l(k)=Θ(k), the runtime matches the other trivial lower bound Ω(l(p)). Both upper and lower bounds apply for other parallel locality models like Y-PRAM, D-BSP and E-BSP, too.  相似文献

This paper studies the Multi-Resolution Analyses of multiplicity d (d *), that is, the families (Vn)n of closed subspaces in 2( ) such that Vn Vn + 1, Vn + 1 = DVn, where Dƒ(x) = ƒ(2x), and such that there exists a Riesz basis for V0 of the form {φi(· − k), i = 1, . . . , d,k }, with φ1, . . . , φd V0. Using the Fourier transform, we prove that (λ) = t[ 1(λ), . . . , d(λ)] = H(λ/2) (λ/2), where H is in the set d of continuous 1-periodic functions taking values in (d, ). If d = 1, the definition corresponds to the standard Multi-Resolution Analyses, and one can characterize the regular 1-periodic complex-valued functions H (called, then, scaling filters) which yield a Multi-Resolution Analysis. In this paper, we generalize this study to d ≥ 2 by giving conditions on H d so that there exists = t[ 1, . . . , d] in 2( , d) solution of (λ) = H(λ/2) (λ/2), and so that the integer translates of φ1, . . . , φd form a Riesz family. Then, the latter span the space V0 of a Multi-Resolution Analysis of multiplicity d. We show that the conditions on H focus on the zeros of det H(·) and on simple spectral hypotheses for the operator PH defined on d by PHF(λ) = H(λ/2)F(λ/2)H(λ/2)* + H(λ/2 + 1/2)F(λ/2 + 1/2)H(λ/2 + 1/2)*. Finally, we explore connections with the order r dyadic interpolation schemes, where r *.  相似文献
