In this paper the role of the solvent in the formation of the charge-separated excited state of 9,9'-bianthryl (BA) is examined by means of mixed molecular mechanical/quantum mechanical (QM/MM) calculations. It is shown that in weakly polar solvents a relaxed excited state is formed with an interunit angle that is significantly smaller than 90 degrees . This relaxed excited state has a considerable dipole moment even in weakly polar solvents; for benzene and dioxane dipole moments of ca. 6 D were calculated, which is close to experimental data. These dipoles are induced by the solvent in the highly polarizable relaxed excited state of BA, and the dipole relaxation time is governed by solvent reorganizations. In polar solvent the charge separation is driven to completion by the stronger dipoles in the solvent and a fully charged separated excited state is formed with an interunit angle of 90 degrees.  相似文献

We study the effects of symmetry breaking on the photogenerated intramolecular charge transfer (CT) state of 9,9'-bianthryl (BA) with femtosecond time-resolved near-IR spectroscopy. The time-resolved near-IR spectra are measured in acetonitrile for a symmetric substituted derivative of 10,10'-dicyano-9,9'-bianthryl (DCBA) and asymmetric substituted derivatives of 10-cyano-9,9'-bianthryl (CBA) and 9-(N-carbazolyl)anthracene (C9A), as well as nonsubstituted BA. The transient near-IR absorption spectrum of each compound at 0 ps has a locally excited (LE) absorption band, which agrees with the transient absorption band of the corresponding monomer unit. At 3 ps after the photoexcitation, the symmetric compounds show a broad charge transfer (CT) absorption band, whereas no absorption peak appears in the spectra of the asymmetric compounds. The broad CT absorption at 1250 nm only observed for the symmetric compounds can be attributed to the charge resonance transition associated with two equivalent charge separated states.  相似文献

Although many vibrational spectroscopic studies using infrared (IR) absorption and Raman scattering (RS) techniques revealed that dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) forms intermolecular dimeric associations in the pure liquid state and in solutions, the results of a number of dielectric relaxation studies did not clearly show the presence of such dimers. Recently, we found the presence of dimeric DMSO associations in not only the pure liquid but also in solutions of nonpolar solvents, such as tetrachloromethane (CCl(4)) and benzene (Bz), using dielectric relaxation (DR) techniques, which ranged from 50 MHz to 50 GHz at 25 °C. The dimeric DMSO associations cause a slow dielectric relaxation process with a relaxation time of ca. 23 ps for solutions in CCl(4) (ca. 17 ps in Bz) due to the dissociation into monomeric DMSO molecules, while the other fast relaxation is caused by monomeric DMSO molecules with a relaxation time of ca. 5.0 ps (ca. 5.5 ps in Bz) at 25 °C. A comparison of DR and vibrational spectroscopic data for DMSO solutions demonstrated that the concentration dependence of the relative magnitude of the slow and fast DR strength corresponds well to the two IR and RS bands assigned to the vibrational stretching modes of the sulfoxide groups (S═O) of the dimeric associations and the monomeric DMSO molecules, respectively. Moreover, the concentrations of the dimeric associations ([DIM]) and monomeric DMSO molecules ([MON]) were governed by a chemical equilibrium and an equilibrium constant (K(d) = [DIM](2)[MON](-1)) that was markedly dependent on the concentration of DMSO and the solvent species (K(d) = 2.5 ± 0.5 M(-1) and 0.7 ± 0.1 M(-1) in dilute CCl(4) and Bz solutions, respectively, and dramatically increased to 20-40 M(-1) in pure DMSO at 25 °C).  相似文献

The five 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-aminobenzonitriles XABN4F with a dimethyl-amino (DMABN4F), diethyl-amino (DEABN4F), azetidinyl (AZABN4F), methyl-amino (MABN4F) or amino (ABN4F) group undergo ultrafast intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) at room temperature, in the polar solvent acetonitrile (MeCN) as well as in the nonpolar n-hexane. ICT also takes place with the corresponding non-fluorinated aminobenzonitriles DMABN, DEABN and AZABN in MeCN, whereas for these molecules in n-hexane only minor (DMABN, DEABN) or no (AZABN) ICT fluorescence is detected. For the secondary (MABN) and primary (ABN) amines, an ICT reaction does not occur, which makes ABN4F the first electron donor/acceptor molecule with an NH(2) group for which ICT is observed. The ICT state of the XABN4Fs has a dipole moment of around 14 D, clearly smaller than that of DMABN (17 D). This difference is attributed to the electron withdrawing from the CN group to the phenyl ring, exerted by the four F-substituents. The reaction from the initially prepared locally excited (LE) to the ICT state in n-hexane proceeds in the sub-picosecond time range: 0.35 ps (DMABN4F), 0.29 ps (DEABN4F) and 0.13 ps (AZABN4F), as determined from femtosecond transient absorption measurements. In the highly polar solvent MeCN, an ICT reaction time of around 90 fs is observed for all five XABN4Fs, irrespective of the nature of their amino group. This shows that with these molecules in MeCN the ICT reaction rate is limited by the solvent dielectric relaxation time of MeCN, for which a value of around 90 fs has been reported. It is therefore concluded that, during this ultrashort ICT reaction, a large-amplitude motion such as a full 90 degrees twist of the amino group is unlikely to occur in the XABN4Fs. The ICT state of the XABN4Fs is strongly quenched via internal conversion (IC), with a lifetime tau'(0) (ICT) down to 3 ps, possibly by a reaction passing through a conical intersection made accessible due to a deformation of the phenyl group by out-of-plane motions induced by vibronic coupling between low-lying pisigma* and pipi* states in the XABN4Fs.  相似文献

Contribution to understanding of the molecular dynamics in liquids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The dielectric relaxation spectroscopy is used for studying the orientational molecular dynamics in the isotropic (I) and nematic (N) phases of two mesogenic liquids composed of the molecules of similar structure and length, but of an essentially different polarity: n-heptylcyanobiphenyl, C(7)H(15)PhPhCN, 7CB (molecular dipole moment mu approximately 5D) and 4-(trans-4'-n-hexylcyclohexyl)isothiocyanatobenzene, C(6)H(13)CyHxPhNCS, 6CHBT (mu approximately 2.5D); advantageously, the temperatures of the I-N phase transition for the two compounds are very close to each other (T(NI) = 316.6 +/- 0.2 K). It is shown that regardless of the differences in polarity of 7CB and 6CHBT molecules and their abilities in dipolar aggregation, the values and temperature dependences of the relaxation time (corresponding to the rotational diffusion of the molecules around their short axis) are very close to each other, in both the isotropic and nematic phases of the liquids studied. Therefore, the data show that the dielectric relaxation processes occurring in dipolar liquids in the isotropic and nematic states lead through the rotational diffusion of individual molecules and the diffusion seems to be not influenced by the intermolecular interactions.  相似文献

The dielectric polarization has been used to study dipolar association of 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl in benzene solution. The results have been interpreted with the assumption of a monomer-dimer equilibrium. To explain the relatively high effective dipole moment of the dimers, a new structure has been proposed for them.  相似文献

We report on molecular dynamics simulations of the frequency-dependent dielectric relaxation spectra at room temperature for aqueous solutions of a hydrophilic peptide and an amphiphilic peptide at two concentrations. We find that only the high-concentration amphiphilic peptide solution exhibits an anomalous dielectric increment over that of pure water, while the hydrophilic peptide exhibits a significant dielectric decrement. The dielectric component analysis carried out by decomposing these peptide solutions into peptide, hydration layer, and outer layer(s) of water clearly shows the presence of a unique dipolar component with a relaxation time scale on the order of approximately 25 ps (compared to the bulk water time scale of approximately 11 ps) that originates from the interaction between the hydration layer water and the outer layer(s) of water. Results obtained from the dielectric component analysis further show the emergence of a distinct and much lower frequency relaxation process for the high-concentration amphiphilic peptide compared to the hydrophilic peptide due to strong peptide dipolar couplings to all constituents, accompanied by a slowing of the structural relaxation in all water layers, giving rise to time scales close to approximately 1 ns. We suggest that the molecular origin of the dielectric relaxation anomalies is due to frustration in the water network arising from the amphiphilic chemistry of the peptide that does not allow it to reorient on the picosecond time scale of bulk water motions. This explanation is consistent with the idea of the "slaving" of residue side chain motions to protein surface water, and furthermore offers the possibility that the anomalous dynamics observed from a number of spectroscopies arises at the interface of hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains on the protein surface.  相似文献

Mixtures of the ionic liquid (IL) [C(6)mim](+)[Tf(2)N](-) and acetonitrile have been investigated by a combination of dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS) and ultrafast transient absorption techniques using the molecular probe 12'-apo-β-carotenoic-12'-acid (12'CA). Steady-state absorption spectra of the 12'CA molecule have also been recorded. The position of the probe's S(0)→ S(2) absorption maximum correlates linearly with the polarizability of the mixture, suggesting that the bulk composition is a good approximation to the local composition. The lifetime τ(1) of the S(1)/ICT state of 12'CA varies rather smoothly with composition between the value for pure acetonitrile (42 ps) and neat [C(6)mim](+)[Tf(2)N](-) (94 ps). At low IL contents there appears to be an influence of discrete ion pairs. Employing static dielectric constants from the DRS experiments, one finds that the lifetime of the probe in the IL mixtures is shorter than that in pure organic solvents with the same polarity parameter. This suggests an increased stabilization of the S(1)/ICT state in IL-containing mixtures, most likely due to IL-specific Coulombic interactions between the cation and the negative end of the probe's dipole. An ultrafast solvation component is observed which is ca. 0.5 ps in pure acetonitrile, and approaches the value for the pure IL (2.0 ps) already around x(IL) = 0.3. This is interpreted in terms of an efficient perturbation of the cooperative solvation response of acetonitrile by the presence of small amounts of IL and possibly also the viscosity increase when adding IL. This view is also supported by the increase of the average longitudinal relaxation time of acetonitrile upon addition of small IL amounts extracted from the DRS experiments.  相似文献

The nonlinear dielectric effect (NDE) has been applied to study the molecular association in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solutions in benzene and in cyclohexane. On the basis of the experimental values of the NDE parameter, electric permittivity, and density, determined as a function of temperature and concentration, and applying the general, statistical theory of NDE, the association constants and dipole moments of the associates were determined. The molecular orbital PM3 method has been applied to calculate the dipole moments and energy of molecular clusters. The results of NDE and PM3 studies are fairly consistent and reveal that a weak dipolar association takes place in the cyclohexane solutions. In the benzene solutions the association, if any, is much weaker probably due to competitive interactions between the solute and the solvent.  相似文献

Hydrothermal reaction of (l)-N-(4'-cyanobenzy)-(S)-proline with CdCl2 as a Lewis acid catalyst and NaN3 gives colorless block compound 1, in which 1 displays a complicated 3D framework. Ferroelectric and dielectric property measurements reveal that 1 exhibits physical properties comparable to that of a typical ferroelectric compound with a dipole relaxation process and a dielectric constant of ca. 38.6 that makes it, by definition, a high dielectric material.  相似文献

Results of dielectric relaxation, quasielastic neutron scattering, calorimetric D.S.C. and preliminary X-ray measurements on the fifth member, POAOB, of the 4,4'-di-n-alkoxyazoxybenzene homologous series are presented. It has been found that POAOB exhibits two mesophases: a nematic (N) and an intermediate crystalline phase (CI) just below it. From comparison of the dielectric relaxation and quasielastic neutron scattering studies we can conclude that in the nematic phase the molecule as a whole performs rotational diffusion around the long axis (ω ~ 150ps) and at the same time the two moieties perform faster independent reorientations around the N-δ bonds (ω denotes a benzene ring) with δ ~ 5 ps. The intermediate crystal phase is identified as a solid uniaxial rotational phase in which fast molecular reorientations exist. It seems that the fast reorientations observed in the nematic phase to some extent survive to the crystal I phase. A model of molecular arrangements in the crystal I phase is proposed, and it explains the reduction of the dielectric increment observed on passing from the nematic phase to this phase.  相似文献

Low levels of water (limit of detection 2-5 mg kg1?)can be determined in a non-polar organic solvents such as benzene, 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) and n-hexane by utilizing the reaction of water with SnCl4 or SbCl5. The reaction results of hydrolysis in halide and is accompanied by a decrease in optical absorption. With SnSl4, the reaction is monitored near 300 nm and with SbCl5 it is monitored at lower wavelengths (350-420). Niether reactons proceeds well in media containing only DCE and n-hexane. For this reason, the arrangemens involves a halide reagent dissolved in benzene which is merged with a benzene/n-hexane/DCE carrier stream into which samlpe is injected. A configuration in which only 2μl of a concentrated halide reagent solution is injected into the flowing sample stream is also shown to be viable for the determination of water in benzene. A membrane-permeation-based calibration method for preparing trace water standards is described.  相似文献

Dielectric relaxation times are often interpreted in terms of the reorientation of dipolar species or aggregates. The relevant time correlation function contains, however, cross terms between dipole moments of different particles. In the static case, these cross terms are accounted for by the Kirkwood factor g(K). Theories and molecular dynamics simulations suggest that such cross correlations may also affect the time-dependent properties, as reflected in the dielectric spectra. We present an experimental method for detecting effects of such cross correlations in dielectric spectra by a comparative analysis of dielectric and magnetic relaxation data. We demonstrate that such collective contributions can substantially affect dielectric relaxation. Experiments for n-pentanol (g(K)=3.06 at 298 K) and 2,2-dimethyl-3-ethyl-pentane-3-ol (g(K)=0.59) and their solutions in carbon tetrachloride show that in systems with g(K)>1, the cross correlations slow down dielectric relaxation. In systems with g(K)<1, dielectric relaxation is enhanced. The results conform to theoretical predictions by Madden and Kivelson [Adv. Chem. Phys. 56, 467 (1984)] and to results of molecular dynamics simulations. The relaxation enhancement by cross terms in the case of g(K)<1 is difficult to rationalize by conventional models of dielectric relaxation.  相似文献

Low‐operating voltage, high mobility, and stable organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) using polymeric dielectrics such as pristine poly(4‐vinyl phenol) (PVP) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), dissolved in solvents of high dipole moment, have been achieved. High dipole moment solvents such as propylene carbonate and dimethyl sulfoxide used for dissolving the polymer dielectric enhance the charge carrier mobilities by three orders of magnitude in pentacene OFETs compared with low dipole moment solvents. Fast switching circuits with patterned gate PVP‐based pentacene OFETs demonstrated a switching frequency of 75 kHz at input voltages of |5 V|. The frequency response of the OFETs is attributed to a high degree of dipolar‐order in dielectric films obtained from high‐polarity solvents and the resulting energetically ordered landscape for transport. Remarkably, these pentacene‐based OFETs exhibited high stability under bias stress and in air with negligible shifts in the threshold voltage. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The non-linear dielectric effect has been studied for acetone and acetophenone, and their solutions in benzene. With the NDE results obtained in this work and the dielectric polarization calculated from literature values of the permittivity, density and refractive index, the mean values of the square and the fourth power of the dipole moment were calculated. Assuming dipolar association of the acetone and acetophenone molecules to be restricted to dimerization, the Gibbs free energy ΔGo of the dimerization process is determined.  相似文献

We have measured the dynamics of solvation of a triplet state probe, quinoxaline, in the glass-forming dipolar liquid butyronitrile near its glass transition temperature T(g)=95 K. The Stokes shift correlation function displays a relaxation time dispersion of considerable magnitude and the optical linewidth changes along the solvation coordinate in a nonmonotonic fashion. These features are characteristic of solvation in viscous solvents and clearly indicate heterogeneous dynamics, i.e., spatially distinct solvent response times. Using the dielectric relaxation data of viscous butyronitrile as input, a microscopic model of dipolar solvation captures the relaxation time, the relaxation dispersion, and the amplitude of the dynamical Stokes shift remarkably well.  相似文献

The classic dielectric dipolar Onsager model was extended to include quadrupolar interactions between solute molecules and solvents with different polarities. A multiparametric solvatochromic expression, based on the point quadrupole moment inside a spherical cavity embedded in a dielectric continuum, is applied to centrosymmetric sulfonamide porphyrins, zinc tetraphenyl porphyrin, squaraine and 9,10-dicyanoanthracene, in order to account for the quadrupolar polarization effect of solute molecules. The reaction field polarity functions created respectively by dipole and quadrupole moments are compared and found to be linearly correlated.  相似文献

The excited-state dynamics of two polyfluorene copolymers, one fully conjugated containing phenylene vinylene units alternated with 9,9'-dihexylfluorenyl groups and the other segmented by -(CH2)8- spacer, were studied in dilute solution of different solvents using a picosecond single-photon timing technique. The excited-state dynamics of the segmented copolymer follows the F?rster resonant energy-transfer model which describes intrachain energy-transfer kinetics among random oriented chromophores. Energy transfer is confirmed by analysis of fluorescence anisotropy relaxation with the measurement of a short decay component of about 60 ps. The fluorescence decay surface of the fully conjugated copolymer is biexponential with decay times of about 470 and 900 ps, ascribed to deactivation of chain moieties containing trans and cis isomers already in a photostationary condition. Thus, energy transfer is very fast due to the conjugated nature and rigid-rod-like structure of this copolymer chain.  相似文献

Dielectric response of imidazolium-based room-temperature ionic liquids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have used microwave dielectric relaxation spectroscopy to study the picosecond dynamics of five low-viscosity, highly conductive room temperature ionic liquids based on 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium cations paired with the bis((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)imide anion. Up to 20 GHz the dielectric response is bimodal. The longest relaxation component at the time scale of several 100 ps reveals strongly nonexponential dynamics and correlates with the viscosity in a manner consistent with hydrodynamic predictions for the diffusive reorientation of dipolar ions. Methyl substitution at the C2 position destroys this correlation. The time constants of the weak second process at the 20 ps time scale are practically the same for each salt. This intermediate process seems to correlate with similar modes in optical Kerr effect spectra, but its physical origin is unclear. The missing high-frequency portion of the spectra indicates relaxation beyond the upper cutoff frequency of 20 GHz, presumably due to subpicosecond translational and librational displacements of ions in the cage of their counterions. There is no evidence for orientational relaxation of long-lived ion pairs.  相似文献

By the use of time domain reflectometry method, dielectric measurements were carried out on dimethylformamide‐2‐nitrotoluene solvent mixtures in the frequency range 10 MHz‐20 GHz, at various temperatures from 15 °C to 45 °C. These solvent mixtures as well as pure solvents display a Debye type dispersion. Their frequency dependent dielectric properties can be summarized by the three parameters in the Debye equation: a static permittivity, permittivity at high frequency and a dielectric relaxation time constant. The free energy of activation for dipolar relaxation process and the Kirkwood correlation factor were determined using these fitting parameters for these solvent mixtures at various concentrations and temperatures. By using these dielectric parameters, the excess permittivity and excess inverse relaxation time is obtained. The excess permittivity is found to be positive for all concentrations and temperatures whereas the excess inverse relaxation time is negative.  相似文献
