Photo-induced molecular transformations. Part 123. One-step synthesis of 1H-benz[f]indole-4,9-diones by a new regioselective photoaddition of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone with various alkenes and its application to one-step synthesis of kinamycin skeleton

2,3-Dihydro-1H-benz[f]indole-4,9-diones are formed in one-step in 45–82% yields by an unprecedented [2+3]-type regioselective photoaddition of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone with various electron-rich alkenes and the [2+3] adducts derived from ammonaphthoquinone with vinyl ethers and vinyl acetate to give 1H-benz[f]indole-4,9-diones including a benzindole-dione with a kinamycin skeleton in 33–72% yields. A probable pathway leading to the formation of the dihydroindole-dione involving air oxidation of an intermediary hydroquinone is proposed.     

One-pot synthesis of benzo[f]indole-4,9-diones from 1,4-naphthoquinones and terminal acetylenes

In this paper, a concise one-pot method for the construction of benzo[f]indole-4,9-dione motifs is described. These transformations proceed via a sequential palladium- and copper-catalyzed coupling reaction of 1,4-naphthoquinones with terminal acetylenes, followed by a copper-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization reaction of the resulting coupling product.     

Synthesis of 1H-naphth[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-diones by acid catalyzed cyclization of 2-Acylamino-3-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones

The conversion of 2-acylamino-3-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones (II) to the corresponding 2-substituted 1H-naphth[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-diones (I) under both alkaline and acid catalyzed conditions has been effected and the results compared. Treatment of 3-(4′-chlorobutanonyl-amino)-3-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone (He) with aqueous ethanolic sodium hydroxide solution gives 1,2-butanonaphth[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-dione (V); whereas, treatment of lie with refluxing formic acid gave 2-(4′-chlorobutyl)-1H-naphth[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-dione. Treatment of 2-substi-tuted 1H-naphth[2,3-d]imidazole-4,5-diones in DMF with alkyl halides in the presence of potassium carbonate affords the expected 1,2-disubstituted naphth[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-diones (VI). The spectral properties of I, II, V and VI as well as those of some 2-acylamino-3-chloro-1,4-naphthoquinones IV are discussed.     

Synthesis of 2-aryl-1-hydroxy-1H-naphtho[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-diones by reaction of 2-benzylamino-1,4-naphthoquinones with nitric acid

2-Aryl-1-hydroxy-1H-naphtho[2,3-d]imidazole-4,9-diones were synthesized by treatment of 2-benzylamino-1,4-naphthoquinones with a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids in acetic acid.     

One-step synthesis of substituted 2-amino-4H-chromenes and 2-amino-4H-benzo[f]chromenes. Molecular and crystal structure of 2-amino-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-phenyl-4H-benzo[f]chromene

Substituted 2-aminochromenes were synthesized by three-component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, derivatives of cyanoacetic acid, and phenols or naphthols. The molecular and crystal structure of 2-amino-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-phenyl-4H-benzo[f]chromene was established by X-ray diffraction analysis.     

(Z)-Ethyl 2-phenyl-1-(2-vinylphenyl)vinylcarbamates. Part 1: Synthesis and preliminary studies on their divergent transformation into benzo[c]phenanthridines and 2-phenyl-1,4-naphthoquinones

Treatment of N-carbethoxy-1-benzylideneisoquinolines with LDA gives N-ethoxycarbonyl-1-amino-1-(2-vinylphenyl)-2-phenylethylenes, which can easily be transformed into N-carbethoxy-1-amino-2-phenylnaphthalenes. Bischler-Napieralski reaction of these latter compounds affords the corresponding benzo[c]phenanthridines, while their hydrolysis and subsequent oxidation constitutes a novel route to 2-phenyl-1,4-naphthoquinones.
