This is a sequel to [30], which studies the prescribing scalar curvature problem on Sn. First we present some existence and compactness results for n = 4. The existence result extends that of Bahri and Coron [4], Benayed, Chen, Chtioui, and Hammami [6], and Zhang [39]. The compactness results are new and optimal. In addition, we give a counting formula of all solutions. This counting formula, together with the compactness results, completely describes when and where blowups occur. It follows from our results that solutions to the problem may have multiple blowup points. This phenomena is new and very different from the lower-dimensional cases n = 2, 3. Next we study the problem for n ≥ 3. Some existence and compactness results have been given in [30] when the order of flatness at critical points of the prescribed scalar curvature functions K(x) is β ϵ (n − 2, n). The key point there is that for the class of K mentioned above we have completed L apriori estimates for solutions of the prescribing scalar curvature problem. Here we demonstrate that when the order of flatness at critical points of K(x) is β = n − 2, the L estimates for solutions fail in general. In fact, two or more blowup points occur. On the other hand, we provide some existence and compactness results when the order of flatness at critical points of K(x) is β ϵ [n − 2,n). With this result, we can easily deduce that C scalar curvature functions are dense in C1,α (0 < α < 1) norm among positive functions, although this is generally not true in the C2 norm. We also give a simpler proof to a Sobolev-Aubin-type inequality established in [16]. We consider the periodic problem for differential inclusions in $$ \user2{\mathbb{R}}^{\rm N} $$ with a nonconvex-valued orientor field F(t, ζ), which is lower semicontinuous in $$ \zeta \in \user2{\mathbb{R}}^{\rm N} $$ Using the notion of a nonsmooth, locally Lipschitz generalized guiding function, we prove that the inclusion has periodic solutions. We have two such existence theorems. We also study the “convex” periodic problem and prove an existence result under upper semicontinuity hypothesis on F(t, ·) and using a nonsmooth guiding function. Our work was motivated by the recent paper of Mawhin-Ward [23] and extends the single-valued results of Mawhin [19] and the multivalued results of De Blasi-Górniewicz-Pianigiani [4], where either the guiding function is C1 or the conditions on F are more restrictive and more difficult to verify.  相似文献

In the first part of this paper, we extend several results in Crandall, Evans, and Gariepy [11] and Crandall and Evans [10] to absolute minimizers of more general L functionals. In the second part, we present some interesting connections between L variational problems and weak KAM theory. As an application, we will advance the main result in Fathi and Siconolfi [17], i.e, the existence of a C1 subsolution of the Hamilton‐Jacobi equation. Moreover, we will propose a possible approximation of the projected Aubrey set by a variational approach that was first used by Evans in [14]. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We continue our research on the relative strength ofL-like combinatorial principles for successors of singular cardinals. In [3] we have shown that the existence of a λ+-special Aronszajn tree does not follow from that of a λ+-Souslin tree. It follows from [5], [4] and [6] that under G.C.H. □λ does imply the existence of a λ+-Souslin tree. In [2] we show that □λ does not follow from the existence of a λ+-special Aronszajn tree. Here we show that the existence of such a tree implies that of an ‘almost Souslin’ λ+-tree. It follows that the statement “All λ+-Aronszajn trees are special” implies that there are no λ+-Aronszajn trees.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that the basic necessary condition for the existence of a (k; 0, 2)-set in an S(2, 4, v) is also sufficient. It solves a problem posed by de Resmini [6] and we also prove some asymptotic results concerning the existence of hyperovals in Steiner systems with large block size. The results are generally applicable to designs with maximal arcs.  相似文献

It is a well-known fact that the classical (i.e. polynomial) divided difference of orderm, when applied to a functiong, converges to themth-derivative of this function, if the evaluation points all collapse to a single one.In the first part of this paper we shall sharpen this result in the sense that we prove the existence of an asymptotic expansion with limitg (m) /m!. This result allows the application of extrapolation methods for the numerical differentiation of funtions.Moreover, in the second and main part of the paper we study generalized divided differences, which were introduced by Popoviciu [10] and further investigated for example by Karlin [2], Walz [15] and, mainly, Mühlbach [6–8]; we prove the existence of an asymptotic expansion also for these generalized divided differences, if the underlying function space is a Polya space. As a by-product, our results show that the generalized divided difference of orderm converges to the value of a certainmth order differential operator.  相似文献

A method for constructing binary self-dual codes having an automorphism of order p 2 for an odd prime p is presented in (S. Bouyuklieva et al. IEEE. Trans. Inform. Theory, 51, 3678–3686, 2005). Using this method, we investigate the optimal self-dual codes of lengths 60 ≤ n ≤ 66 having an automorphism of order 9 with six 9-cycles, t cycles of length 3 and f fixed points. We classify all self-dual [60,30,12] and [62,31,12] codes possessing such an automorphism, and we construct many doubly-even [64,32,12] and singly-even [66,33,12] codes. Some of the constructed codes of lengths 62 and 66 are with weight enumerators for which the existence of codes was not known until now.   相似文献

Recently, several authors [8, 10] have argued for the use of extended formulations to tighten production planning models. In this work we present two linear-programming extended formulations of the constant-capacity lot-sizing problem with backlogging. The first one applies to the problem with a general cost function and has O(n3) variables and constraints. This improves on the more straightforward O(n4) Florian and Klein [2] type formulation. The second one applies when the costs satisfy the Wagner-Whitin property but it has O(n2) variables and O(n3) constraints. As a by-product, we positively answer an open question of Miller and Wolsey [4] about the tightness of an extended formulation for the continuous mixing set. In this paper we consider the question of the existence of solutions to an initial-boundary value problem for a singular, semilinear, parabolic equation arising from the study of autocatalytic chemical kinetics of the typeA B at ratek[A][B] P , whereA is a reactant,B is the autocatalyst,k>0 the rate constant and 0<p<1 the order of the reaction, King and Needham [1]. A monotone iteration method is adopted in the spirit of Sattinger [2], However the general theory due to Sattinger [2] cannot be applied directly because of the singular nature of the source term in the equation.  相似文献

In 1981, Dinitz and Stinson [2] proved that the necessary conditions were sufficient for the existence of a Room frame of type tu for all u ≥ 6. Very recently, Zhu Lie and Ge Gennian [5] constructed all t5 Room frames except for four missing orders. For a selfdual model introduced by Hong-Kim-Pac [18] and Jackiw-Weinberg [19] we study the existence of double vortex-condensates“bifurcating” from the symmetric vacuum state as the Chern-Simons coupling parameter k tends to zero. Surprisingly, we show a connection between the asymptotic behavior of the given double vortex as with the existence of extremal functions for a Sobolev inequality of the Moser-Trudinger's type on the flat 2-torus ([22], [1] and [15]). In fact, our construction yields to a “best” minimizing sequence for the (non-coercive) associated extremal problem, in the sense that, the infimum is attained if and only if the given minimizing sequence admits a convergent subsequence. This paper is concerned with a class of semilinear hyperbolic systems in odd space dimensions. Our main aim is to prove the existence of a small amplitude solution which is asymptotic to the free solution as t→-∞in the energy norm, and to show it has a free profile as t→ ∞. Our approach is based on the work of [11]. Namely we use a weighted L∞norm to get suitable a priori estimates. This can be done by restricting our attention to radially symmetric solutions. Corresponding initial value problem is also considered in an analogous framework. Besides, we give an extended result of [14] for three space dimensional case in Section 5, which is prepared independently of the other parts of the paper.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the initial value problem for the nonlinear wave equation □u = F(u, u′) in Friedman-Robertson-Walker space-time, □ being the D'Alambertian in local coordinates of space-time. We obtain decay estimates and show that the equation has global solutions for small initial data. We do it by reducing the problem to an initial value problem for the wave equation over hyperbolic space. As byproduct we derive decay and global existence for solutions of the wave equation over the hyperbolic space with small initial data. The same technique with some auxiliary lemmas similar to the ones proved in [6], [7] can be used to generalize the result to the case when F depends also on second derivatives of u in a certain way.  相似文献

In this paper, we will introduce the generalized operator equilibrium problem and generalized operator quasi-equilibrium problem which generalize the operator equilibrium problem due to Kazmi and Raouf [K.R. Kazmi, A. Raouf, A class of operator equilibrium problems, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 308 (2005) 554-564] into multi-valued and quasi-equilibrium problems. Using a Fan-Browder type fixed point theorem in [S. Park, Foundations of the KKM theory via coincidences of composites of upper semicontinuous maps, J. Korean Math. Soc. 31 (1994) 493-519] and an existence theorem of equilibrium for 1-person game in [X.-P. Ding, W.K. Kim, K.-K. Tan, Equilibria of non-compact generalized games with L-majorized preferences, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 164 (1992) 508-517] as basic tools, we prove new existence theorems on generalized operator equilibrium problem and generalized operator quasi-equilibrium problem which includes operator equilibrium problems.  相似文献

It is unknown whether or not there exists an [87, 5, 57; 3]-code. Such a code would meet the Griesmer bound. The purpose of this paper is to give a constructive proof of the existence of [q 4 + q 2q, 5, q 4q 3 + q 2 – 2q; q]-codes for any prime power q 3. As a special case, it is shown that there exists an [87, 5, 57; 3]-code with weight enumerator 1 + 156z 37 + 82z 60 + 2z 63 + 2z 78. The new construction settles an open problem due to Hill and Newton [10].  相似文献

Summary This paper deals with the existence of solutions for the implicit Cauchy problem F(t, x, x)=B, x(t0)=x0 in a Banach space B. By using the Kuratowski and the Hausdorff measure of non compactness, we prove an existence theorem for the previous problem (Teorema 1.1) and its extension to non compact intervals (Teorema 2.1). These results generalize the previous ones by R.Conti [1] (in the case B=R), G.Pulvirenti [2] and T. Dominguez Benavides [3], [4] (in the general case). In particular, we relax a Lipschitz condition assumed by all of the abovementioned authors. Some applications of Teorema 2.1 are presented.

This is the first part of a work on second order nonlinear, nonmonotone evolution inclusions defined in the framework of an evolution triple of spaces and with a multivalued nonlinearity depending on both x(t) and x(t). In this first part we prove existence and relaxation theorems. We consider the case of an usc, convex valued nonlinearity and we show that for this problem the solution set is nonempty and compact in C^1 (T, H). Also we examine the Isc, nonconvex case and again we prove the existence of solutions. In addition we establish the existence of extremal solutions and by strengthening our hypotheses, we show that the extremal solutions are dense in C^1 (T, H) to the solutions of the original convex problem (strong relaxation). An example of a nonlinear hyperbolic optimal control problem is also discussed.  相似文献

A measurable set Q ⊂ R n is a wavelet set for an expansive matrix A if F −1 (ΧQ) is an A-dilation wavelet. Dai, Larson, and Speegle [7] discovered the existence of wavelet sets in R n associated with any real n ×n expansive matrix. In this work, we construct a class of compact wavelet sets which do not contain the origin and which are, up to a certain linear transformation, finite unions of integer translates of an integral selfaffine tile associated with the matrix B = A t. Some of these wavelet sets may have good potential for applications because of their tractable geometric shapes.  相似文献

We derive some new results concerning the Cauchy problem and the existence of bound states for a class of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger-gKdV systems. In particular, we obtain the existence of strong global solutions for initial data in the energy space H1(RH1(R), generalizing previous results obtained in Tsutsumi (1993) [11], Corcho and Linares (2007) [13] and Dias et al. (submitted for publication) [14] for the nonlinear Schrödinger-KdV system.  相似文献

Sumner [7] proved that every connected K 1,3-free graph of even order has a perfect matching. He also considered graphs of higher connectivity and proved that if m ≥ 2, every m-connected K 1,m+1-free graph of even order has a perfect matching. In [6], two of the present authors obtained a converse of sorts to Sumner’s result by asking what single graph one can forbid to force the existence of a perfect matching in an m-connected graph of even order and proved that a star is the only possibility. In [2], Fujita et al. extended this work by considering pairs of forbidden subgraphs which force the existence of a perfect matching in a connected graph of even order. But they did not settle the same problem for graphs of higher connectivity. In this paper, we give an answer to this problem. Together with the result in [2], a complete characterization of the pairs is given.  相似文献
