The interdiffusion and miscibility behavior of three different types of modified poly(arylether sulfone)s with deuterated poly(arylether sulfone) is studied by depth profiling using the nuclear reaction D(3He, α)p. The diffusion coefficients are found to be in the range of 10−15 and 10−14 cm2/s at 195°C. A random copolymer of poly(arylether sulfone) containing 4,4-bis-(4′-hydroxyphenyl)valeric acid units is only partially miscible with deuterated poly(arylether sulfone) when the comonomer content is 8.8 mol %, whereas blends with comonomer contents of 1.7 and 4.5 mol % are miscible as indicated by complete interdiffusion. The transition from miscibility to immiscibility is caused by repulsive interactions of copolymer segments and can be explained in terms of a mean-field theory of random copolymer blends. Also, poly(arylether sulfone)s grafted with 0.4 wt % maleic anhydride or having pyromellitic anhydride endgroups are miscible with deuterated poly(arylether sulfone)s. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The preparation of poly(4-oxy-1,4-phenylenesulfonyl-4,4′-biphenylene-4-sulfonylphenylene) (PBP) has been accomplished by the base mediated, polycondensation reaction between two biphenyl containing monomers. The bisphenol, 4,4′-bis[(4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfonyl]biphenyl (HSB), was reacted with 4,4′-bis[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]-biphenyl (CSB) in tetramethylene sulfone solvent. The highest mechanical properties and glass transition temperature was observed for polymer PBP with a reduced viscosity around 1.0 dL/g. Consequently, the current synthesis route provides polymer with higher properties than other historical preparative routes. Blends of PBP with a different poly(ether sulfone) were miscible based on the observance of a single glass transition temperature. The Tgs of the polymer blends exhibited an unusual positive deviation from the weighted linear averages of the components.  相似文献

Hybrid linear‐dendritic ABA polymers, where A and B are dendritic and linear polymers, respectively, were synthesized in a single step via step‐growth polymerization of 4,4′‐difluorodiphenylsulfone and bisphenol A using arylether ketone dendrons of first and second generations (G1‐OH and G2‐OH) as monofunctional end‐cappers. These G1 and G2‐terminated poly(ether sulfone)s (G1‐PESs and G2‐PESs) were characterized by 1H NMR, SEC, DSC, TGA, melt rheology, and tensile tests. The comparison of the glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of these polymers with those of t‐butylphenoxy‐terminated polysulfones reveal that the G1‐ and G2‐PESs have lower Tgs at all molecular weights investigated. However, a plot of Tg versus 1/Mn shows that the difference between the three series becomes negligible at infinite molecular weight and agrees to the chain end free volume theory. The melt viscosities of G1‐PES and G2‐PES with high molecular weights do not show a Newtonian region and, in the high frequency region, their viscosities are lower than that of the control while the stress–strain properties are comparable to those of the control, suggesting that it is possible to reduce the high shear melt viscosity of a PES without affecting the stress–strain properties by introducing bulky dendritic terminal groups. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermoplastic elastomers composed of soft and hard segments are important elastic and processable synthetic polymers. The microphase‐separated soft domains show low glass transition temperature and possess sufficient chain mobility at room temperature. In this study, we report the synthesis and healing properties of multiblock copolymers containing disulfide bonds as dynamic covalent bonds. The multiblock copolymers composed of poly(arylether sulfone) and poly(alkylthioether) segments were synthesized by oxidative coupling polymerization of the corresponding thiol‐terminated oligomers. Atomic force microscopy phase images, differential scanning calorimetry, and dynamic mechanical analysis curves indicated the microphase‐separated morphology of the multiblock copolymer. Self‐healing properties of the polymer were evaluated by changes in the elongation at break of the cut/adhered samples. The elongation recovery increased with UV irradiation time, and the multiblock copolymer showed a 93% recovery after UV irradiation for 5 h. The healing efficiency induced by UV irradiation, determined by subtracting the recovery without UV irradiation, was calculated to be 51%. According to the UV spectra and solubility changes after UV irradiation, the main healing factor in this study was the crosslinking reactions caused by thiyl radicals generated from UV irradiation instead of disulfide exchange reactions. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel poly(arylene ether)s, poly(arylene thioether)s, and poly(arylene sulfone)s were synthesized from the dihydroxy(imidoarylene) monomer 1 . The syntheses of poly(arylene ether)s were carried out in DMAc in the presence of anhydrous K2CO3 by a nucleophilic substitution reaction between the bisphenol and activated difluoro compounds. Poly(arylene thioether)s were synthesized according to the recently discovered one-pot polymerization reaction between a bis(N,N′-dimethyl-S-carbamate) and activated difluoro compounds in the presence of a mixture of Cs2CO3 and CaCO3. The bis(N,N′-dimethyl-S-carbamate) 3 was synthesized by the thermal rearrangement reaction of bis(N,N′-dimethylthiocarbamate) 2 , which was synthesized from 1 by a phase-transfer catalyzed reaction. The poly(arylene thioether)s were further oxidized to form poly(arylene sulfone)s, which would be very difficult, if not impossible, to synthesize by other methods. All of the polymers described have extremely high Tgs and thermal stability as determined from DSC and TGA analysis. Poly(arylene sulfone)s have the highest Tgs and they are in the range of 298–361°C. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 1201–1208, 1998  相似文献

Gas transport of helium, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen, argon, nitrogen, and methane in three soluble poly(phenylene sulfone imide)s based on 2,2-bis(3,4-decarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) has been investigated. The effects of increasing length of well-defined oligo(phenylene sulfone) units on the gas permeabilities and diffusivities were determined and correlated with chain packing of the polymers. Activation energies of diffusion and permeation were calculated from temperature-dependent time-lag measurements. The influences of the central group in the diamine moiety of 6FDA-based polyimides on physical and gas transport properties are discussed. The incorporation of a long oligo(phenylene sulfone) segment in the polymer backbone decreases gas permeability and permselectivity simultaneously. The decreases in permeability coefficients can be mainly related to decreases in diffusion coefficients. Changing the central group of diamine moiety from  S to  SO2 leads to a 45–50% decrease in CO2 and O2 permeabilities without appreciable increase in the selectivities. This is considered to be due to the formation of charge transfer complexes. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 35: 1855–1868, 1997  相似文献

Novel methyl-substituted aromatic poly (ether sulfone)s and poly (ether ketone)s were synthesized from combinations of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbipheny-4,4′-diol and 2,2′,3,3′,5,5′-hexamethylbiphenyl-4,4′-diol, and 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone and 4,4′-difluorobenzo-phenone by nucleophilic aromatic substitution polycondensation. The polycondensations proceeded quantitatively in a N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone-toluene solvent system in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate to afford the polymers with inherent viscosities between 0.86 and 1.55 dL/g. The methyl-substituted poly (ether sulfone)s and poly (ether ketone)s showed good solubility in common organic solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, pyridine, m-cresol, and N,N-dimethylacetamide. The tetramethyl- and hexamethyl-substituted aromatic polyethers had higher glass transition temperatures than the corresponding unsubstituted polymers, and did not decompose below 350°C in both air and nitrogen atmospheres. The films of the methyl-substituted poly (ether ketone)s became insoluble in chloroform by the irradiation of ultraviolet light, indicating the occurrence of photochemical crosslinking reactions. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Branched sulfonated poly(ether ketone sulfone)s (Br‐SPEKS) were prepared with bisphenol A, bis(4‐fluorophenyl)sulfone, 3,3′‐disodiumsulfonyl‐4,4′‐difluorobenzophenone, and THPE (1,1,1‐tris‐p‐hydroxyphenylethane), respectively, at 180 °C using potassium carbonate in NMP (N‐methylpyrrolidinone). THPE, as a branching agent, was used with 0.4 mol % of bisphenol A to synthesize branched copolymers. Copolymers containing 10–50 mol % disulfonated units were cast from dimethylsulfoxide solutions to form films. Linear sulfonated poly(ether ketone sulfone)s (SPEKS) were also synthesized without THPE. The films were converted from the salt to acid forms with dilute hydrochloric acid. A series of copolymers were studied by Fourier transform infrared, 1H‐NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Sorption experiments were conducted to observe the interaction of sulfonated polymers with water and methanol. The ion‐exchange capacity (IEC), a measure of proton conductivity, was evaluated. The synthesized Br‐SPEKS and SPEKS membranes exhibit conductivities (25 °C) from 1.04 × 10?3 to 4.32 × 10?3 S/cm, water swell from 20.18 to 62.35%, IEC from 0.24 to 0.83 mequiv/g, and methanol diffusion coefficients from 3.2 × 10?7 to 4.7 × 10?7 cm2/S at 25 °C. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two series of novel amorphous poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s have been prepared via an intramolecular ring closure reaction of poly(aryl ether ketone)s (PAEKs) with hydrazine monohydrate. Fluorinated PAEKs, which display solubility in solvents incorporating a ketone functionality such as acetone or ethyl acetate, were converted to poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s to observe if these polymers would display similar solubility characteristics. The poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s have glass transition temperatures in the range of 278–320°C and show 5% weight loss points greater than 500°C in air and nitrogen atmospheres. The fluorinated poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s were not soluble in ketonic solvents. A series of poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s incorporating pendant 2-naphthalenyl moieties has been prepared in an attempt to produce amorphous, thermally stable polymers with high glass transition temperatures. The polymers have glass transition temperatures in the range of 287–334°C and show 5% weight loss points greater than 500°C in air and nitrogen atmospheres. Poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s undergo an exothermic reaction above the glass transition temperature. The major product of this reaction is a rearrangement of the phthalazine moieties to quiazoline moieties, however some crosslinking of the polymers occurs. Cured samples of the poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s show a small increase in the polymer Tg and are insoluble in all solvents tested. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. High molecular weight bisphenol A or hydroquinone‐based poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide/sulfone) homopolymer or statistical copolymers were synthesized and characterized by thermal analysis, gel permeation chromatography, and intrinsic viscosity. Miscibility studies of blends of these copolymers with a (bisphenol A)‐epichlorohydrin based poly(hydroxy ether), termed phenoxy resin, were conducted by infrared spectroscopy, dynamic mechanical analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. All of the data are consistent with strong hydrogen bonding between the phosphonyl groups of the copolymers and the pendent hydroxyl groups of the phenoxy resin as the miscibility‐inducing mechanism. Complete miscibility at all blend compositions was achieved with as little as 20 mol % of phosphine oxide units in the bisphenol A poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide/sulfone) copolymer. Single glass transition temperatures (Tg) from about 100 to 200°C were achieved. Replacement of bisphenol A by hydroquinone in the copolymer synthesis did not significantly affect blend miscibilities. Examination of the data within the framework of four existing blend Tg composition equations revealed Tg elevation attributable to phosphonyl/hydroxyl hydrogen bonding interactions. Because of the structural similarities of phenoxy, epoxy, and vinylester resins, the new poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide/sulfone) copolymers should find many applications as impact‐improving and interphase materials in thermoplastics and thermoset composite blend compositions. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The synthesis of a new A2X‐type difluoride monomer, N‐2‐pyridyl‐4′,4″‐bis‐(4‐fluorobenzenesulfonyl)‐o‐terphenyl‐3,6‐dimethyl‐4,5‐dicarboxylic imide ( 3 ), is described. The monomer 3 was incorporated into a series of copoly(aryl ether sulfone)s by polymerization of 4,4′‐isopropylidenediphenol and 4,4′‐difluorophenylsulfone. The incorporation of monomer 3 had an observable effect on both the glass‐transition temperature of poly(aryl ether sulfone)s and the tendency for macrocyclic oligomers to form during polymerization. Replacement of the pyridyl imide group via a transimidization reaction with propargyl amine proceeded quantitatively and without polymer degradation. The acetylene containing copoly(aryl ether sulfone) could be crosslinked by simple thermal treatment, resulting in an increase in the glass‐transition temperature and solvent resistance. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New special engineering thermoplastics, poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone) (PPES) and poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK), containing phthalazinone are synthesized through step-polymerization. The kinetics of thermal degradation of PPES and PPESK (1/1) in nitrogen is investigated at several heating rates by thermogravimetry (TG). It is concluded that, based on using Satava’s theory, the thermal degradation mechanism of PPESK (1/1) is nucleation and growth, the order of reaction of the degradation process is one (n = 1). In contrast, the thermal degradation mechanism of PPES is a phase boundary controlled reaction and the order of the reaction is two (n = 2). The kinetic parameters, including reaction energy and frequency factor of thermal degradation reaction for PPES and PPESK (1/1) are analyzed using isoconversional Friedman, Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose (K–A–S) and Ozawa method. In addition, the study focus on the influence of heating rate and ratio of ketone/sulfone on thermal stability and the life estimation are described.  相似文献

A partially fluorinated and sulfonated poly(arylene sulfone) (SPSO) was successfully synthesized via nucleophilic polycondensation of 2,2‐bis(4‐fluorophenyl)hexafluoro‐propane with 4,4′‐thiobisbenzenethiol (TBBT). In a second step, the prepared poly(arylene sulfide) was oxidized to SPSO. The polymer was blended with the polybenzimidazole PBIOO® to obtain a mechanically stable membrane. This film was compared with other polymer blends, which were synthesized in our group in the last years. We were especially interested in the influence of different bridging groups such as ether, ketone, and sulfone groups. The affect on properties such as water uptake (WU), thermal stability, proton conductivity, and oxidative stability were analyzed in this work. Additionally, the blend membranes were characterized by gel permeation chromatography. The novel SPSO blend shows a high molecular weight, and its blend membrane with PBIOO has an excellent onset of ? SO3H group splitting‐off temperature (Tonset) of 334 °C. The proton conductivity amounts to 0.11 S cm?1, and the water uptake reaches 30%. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Two sulfonyl group-containing bis(ether anhydride)s, 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(1,4-phenylene)dioxy]diphthalic anhydride ( IV ) and 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)dioxy]diphthalic anhydride (Me- IV ), were prepared in three steps starting from the nucleophilic nitrodisplacement reaction of the bisphenolate ions of 4,4′-sulfonyldiphenol and 4,4′-sulfonylbis(2,6-dimethylphenol) with 4-nitrophthalonitrile in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). High-molar-mass aromatic poly(ether sulfone imide)s were synthesized via a conventional two-stage procedure from the bis(ether anhydride)s and various aromatic diamines. The inherent viscosities of the intermediate poly(ether sulfone amic acid)s were in the ranges of 0.30–0.47 dL/g for those from IV and 0.64–1.34 dL/g for those from Me- IV. After thermal imidization, the resulting two series of poly(ether sulfone imide)s had inherent viscosities of 0.25–0.49 and 0.39–1.19 dL/g, respectively. Most of the polyimides showed distinct glass transitions on their differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves, and their glass transition temperatures (Tg) were recorded between 223–253 and 252–288°C, respectively. The results of thermogravimetry (TG) revealed that all the poly(ether sulfone imide)s showed no significant weight loss before 400°C. The methyl-substituted polymers showed higher Tg's but lower initial decomposition temperatures and less solubility compared to the corresponding unsubstituted polymers. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of novel poly(thioether ether ketone imide)s (PTEKIs) bearing the thioether and ketone groups with high molecular weights (Mw: 87,800–150,100 g/mol) were synthesized by aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction. The polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT‐IR), 1H NMR, GPC, and elemental analysis. The composition of the copolymers varied systematically in order to study its relation with polymer properties. Increase in the content of 3‐substituted phthalimide moiety in the polymer backbone improves the solubility in tested solvents, and increases the glass transition temperature (Tg), whereas copolymers with high content of 3‐substituted phthalimide demonstrated to be inferior thermal stability. The PTEKI films also exhibited good optical transparency, including the cutoff wavelengths lower than 400 nm and transmittances higher than 77% at 450 nm. Dibromobenzophenone diacetals (BrC6H4)2C(OR)2 undergo cross-coupling reactions with (Bu3SnC6H4)2O in the presence of palladium catalysts to give poly (diacetal ether)s whose molecular weights reflect the solubility changes of the growing polymer chains as a function of the diacetal precursors, R = Me < 1/2 CH2CH2 < 1/2 CH2CHMe and are significantly higher than those of polymers derived from dibromobenzophenone. New di-zinc reagents based on diacetal derivatives were synthesized and used as organometallic coupling reagents with a range of dibromoarenes, resulting in a series of previously inaccessible poly (biphenylene ketone)s and poly (biphenylene ketone sulfone)s. While poly (biphenylene ether ketone)s are insoluble, poly (biphenylene ketone)s readily dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid. The effects of reaction parameters on the molecular weight of poly (biphenylene ketone) were determined. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Novel poly(arylene thioether)s were synthesised using the one pot polymerisation method from the bis(N,N-dimethyl-S-carbamate) of 2,2-bis(4-mercaptophenyl)propane and activated difluoro aromatic compounds. Each of the polymers, obtained in good yields and with fairly high molecular weights, were characterised by IR, GPC and NMR analyses. In particular, the NMR characterisation was performed using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT, 2D COSY and 2D HSQC experiments. To study the effect on the thermal properties of replacing the ethereal oxygen atoms with sulfur atoms, we have synthesised the counterparts, the poly(arylene ether)s, with similar molecular weights. We observed that the substitution of the ethereal oxygen atoms with sulfur atoms results in a slightly lower thermal stability for the poly(thioether ketone)s, both under nitrogen and in air, and does not modify the Tg values. For the poly(thioether sulfone), on the other hand, the thermal stability is equal to that of the poly(ether sulfone), while the Tg is 10 °C lower. Furthermore, each sample is completely amorphous, with the exception of one of the poly(thioether ketone)s (sample 1b), which shows the capacity to crystallise, even if with a very slow crystallisation kinetics.  相似文献

Two new extended self‐polymerizable AB monomers, N‐(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐4‐amino‐4′‐hydroxydiphenylether and N‐(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐4‐amino‐4′‐hydroxybiphenyl, were prepared. The monomers were homopolymerized and copolymerized to high‐molecular‐weight, linear poly(arylether amides) in N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP)/toluene in the presence of potassium carbonate at elevated temperature. The polymers retained NMP up to 200 °C. Samples containing small amounts of the solvent (5–10 wt %) were soluble in polar aprotic solvents. However, after complete removal of the NMP, the polymers were only soluble in strong acids such as sulfuric acid and methanesulfonic acid (MSA). The polymers, which had intrinsic viscosities of 0.57–1.49 dL/g (30.1 ± 0.1 °C in MSA), were semicrystalline with melting temperatures above 400 °C. Two new self‐polymerizable AB2 amide monomers, N,N′‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐3,4‐diamino‐4′‐hydroxydiphenylether and N,N′‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐3,5‐diamino‐4′‐hydroxybenzophenone, were also prepared and polymerized to give a hyperbranched poly(arylether amide) and a hyperbranched poly(aryletherketone) amide. The arylfluoride‐terminated, amorphous polymers had intrinsic viscosities of 0.34 and 0.24 dL/g (30.0 ± 0.1 °C in m‐cresol), glass‐transition temperatures of 210–269 °C, and were soluble in a wide variety of organic solvents. Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight analysis indicated that the components of the low‐molecular‐weight fractions contained cyclic structures. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bis(4-oxybenzoic acid) tetrakis(phenoxy) cyclotriphosphazene (IUPAC name: 4-[4-(carboxyphenoxy)-2,4,6,6-tetraphenoxy-1,3,5,2λ5,4λ5,6λ5-triazatriphosphinin-2-yl]oxy-benzoic acid) was synthesized and direct polycondensed with diphenylether or 1,4-diphenoxybenzene in Eaton's reagent at the temperature range of 80–120°C for 3 hours to give aromatic poly(ether ketone)s. Polycondensations at 120°C gave polymer of high molecular weight. Incorporation of cyclotriphosphazene groups in the aromatic poly(ether ketone) backbone greatly enhanced the solubility of these polymers in common organic polar solvents. Thermal stabilities by TGA for two polymer samples of polymer series ranged from 390 to 354°C in nitrogen at 10% weight loss and glass transition temperatures (Tg) ranged from 81.4 to 89.6°C by DSC. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new monomer, 4,4′‐bis(4‐phenoxybenzoyl)diphenyl(BPOBDP), was synthesized via a two‐step synthetic procedure. A series of novel poly(ether sulfone ether ketone ketone)/poly(ether ketone diphenyl ketone ether ketone ketone) copolymers were prepared by electrophilic Friedel–Crafts solution copolycondensation of isophthaloyl chloride (IPC) with a mixture of 4,4′‐diphenoxydiphenylsulfone (DPODPS) and 4,4′‐bis(4‐phenoxybenzoyl)diphenyl (BPOBDP), in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride and N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP) in 1,2‐dichloroethane (DCE). The copolymers with 10–50 mol% DPODPS are semicrystalline and have remarkably increased Tgs over commercially available PEEK and PEKK. The copolymers with 40–50 mol% DPODPS had not only high Tgs of 170–172°C, but also moderate Tms of 326–333°C, which are extremely suitable for melt processing. These copolymers have tensile strengths of 96.5–108.1 MPa, Young's moduli of 1.98–3.05 GPa, and elongations at break of 13–26% and exhibit excellent thermal stability and good resistance to acidity, alkali, and common organic solvents.
