For a family of second‐order elliptic operators with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients, we study the asymptotic behavior of the Green and Neumann functions, using Dirichlet and Neumann correctors. As a result we obtain asymptotic expansions of Poisson kernels and the Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann maps as well as optimal convergence rates in Lp and W1,p for solutions with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We combine the calculus of conormal distributions, in particular the Pull‐Back and Push‐Forward Theorems, with the method of layer potentials to solve the Dirichlet and Neumann problems on half‐spaces. We obtain full asymptotic expansions for the solutions, show that boundary layer potential operators are elements of the full b‐calculus and give a new proof of the classical jump relations. En route, we improve Siegel and Talvila's growth estimates for the modified layer potentials in the case of polyhomogeneous boundary data. The techniques we use here can be generalised to geometrically more complex settings, as for instance the exterior domain of touching domains or domains with fibred cusps. This work is intended to be a first step in a longer program aiming at understanding the method of layer potentials in the setting of certain non‐Lipschitz singularities that can be resolved in the sense of Melrose using manifolds with corners and at applying a matching asymptotics ansatz to singular perturbations of related problems.  相似文献

We show existence and uniqueness for a linearized water wave problem in a two dimensional domain G with corner, formed by two semi-axes Γ1 and Γ2 which intersect under an angle α?∈?(0,?π]. The existence and uniqueness of the solution is proved by considering an auxiliary mixed problem with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. The latter guarantees the existence of the Dirichlet to Neumann map. The water wave boundary value problem is then shown to be equivalent to an equation like vtt ?+?gΛv?=?Pt with initial conditions, where t stands for time, g is the gravitational constant, P means pressure and Λ is the Dirichlet to Neumann map. We then prove that Λ is a positive self-adjoint operator.  相似文献

Although the plane boundary value problem for the Laplacian with given Dirichlet data on one part Γ2 and given Neumann data on the remaining part Γ2 of the boundary is the simplest case of mixed boundary value problems, we present several applications in classical mathematical physics. Using Green's formula the problem is converted into a system of Fredholm integral equations for the yet unknown values of the solution u on Γ2 and the also desired values of the normal derivatie on Γ1. One of these equations has principal part of the second kind, whereas that one of the other is of the first kind. Since any improvement of constructive methods requires higher regularity of u but, on the other hand, grad u possesses singularities at the collision points Γ1 ∩ Γ2 even for C data, u is decomposed into special singular terms and a regular rest. This is incorporated into the integral equations and the modified system is solved in appropriate Sobolev spaces. The solution of the system requires to solve a Fredholm equation of the first kind on the arc Γ2 providing an improvement of regularity for the smooth part of u. Since the integral equations form a strongly elliptic system of pseudodifferential operators, the Galerkin procedure converges. Using regular finite element functions on Γ1 and Γ2 augmented by the special singular functions we obtain optimal order of asymptotic convergence in the norm corresponding to the energy norm of u and also superconvergence as well as high orders in smoother norms if the given data are smooth (and not the solution).  相似文献

This paper is devoted to Stokes and Navier–Stokes problems with non‐standard boundary conditions: we consider, in particular, the case where the pressure is given on a part of the boundary. These problems were studied by Bégue, Conca, Murat and Pironneau. They proved the existence of variational solutions, indicating that these were solutions of the initial non‐standard problems, if they are regular enough, but without specifying the conditions on the data which would imply this regularity. In this paper, first we show that the variational solutions, on supposing pressure on the boundary Γ2 of regularity H1/2 instead of H?1/2, have their Laplacians in L2 and, therefore, are solutions of non‐standard Stokes problem. Next, we give a result of regularity H2, which we generalize, obtaining regularities Wm, r, m∈?, m?2, r?2. Finally, by a fixed‐point argument, we prove analogous results for the Navier–Stokes problem, in the case where the viscosity νis large compared to the data. A mixed boundary value problem for the Stokes system in a polyhedral domain is considered. Here different boundary conditions (in particular, Dirichlet, Neumann, free surface conditions) are prescribed on the faces of the polyhedron. The authors prove the existence of solutions in (weighted and non‐weighted) Lp Sobolev spaces and obtain regularity assertions for weak solutions. The results are based on point estimates of Green's matrix. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

This paper describes existence, uniqueness and special eigenfunction representations of H1‐solutions of second order, self‐adjoint, elliptic equations with both interior and boundary source terms. The equations are posed on bounded regions with Dirichlet conditions on part of the boundary and Neumann conditions on the complement. The system is decomposed into separate problems defined on orthogonal subspaces of H1(Ω). One problem involves the equation with the interior source term and the Neumann data. The other problem just involves the homogeneous equation with Dirichlet data. Spectral representations of the solution operators for each of these problems are found. The solutions are described using bases that are, respectively, eigenfunctions of the differential operator with mixed null boundary conditions, and certain mixed Steklov eigenfunctions. These series converge strongly in H1(Ω). Necessary and sufficient conditions for the Dirichlet part of the boundary data to have a finite energy extension are described. The solutions for a problem that models a cylindrical capacitor is found explicitly. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Let a physical body Ω in ?2 or ?3 be given. Assume that the electric conductivity distribution inside Ω consists of conductive inclusions in a known smooth background. Further, assume that a subset Γ ? ?Ω is available for boundary measurements. It is proved using hyperbolic geometry that certain information about the location of the inclusions can be exactly recovered from static electric measurements on Γ. More precisely: given a ball B with center outside the convex hull of Ω and satisfying (B? ∩ ?Ω) ? Γ, boundary measurements on Γ with explicitly given Dirichlet data are enough to determine whether B intersects the inclusion. An approximate detection algorithm is introduced based on the theory. Numerical experiments in dimension two with simulated noisy data suggest that the algorithm finds the inclusion‐free domain near Γ and is robust against measurement noise. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The paper deals with a mixed boundary value problem for the Stokes system in a polyhedral cone. Here different boundary conditions (in particular, Dirichlet, Neumann, free surface conditions) are prescribed on the sides of the polyhedron. The authors obtain regularity results for weak solutions in weighted L 2 Sobolev spaces and prove point estimates of Green's matrix. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this paper, we define boundary single and double layer potentials for Laplace’s equation in certain bounded domains with d-Ahlfors regular boundary, considerably more general than Lipschitz domains. We show that these layer potentials are invertible as mappings between certain Besov spaces and thus obtain layer potential solutions to the regularity, Neumann, and Dirichlet problems with boundary data in these spaces.  相似文献

We present and analyze a new fictitious domain model for the Brinkman or Stokes/Brinkman problems in order to handle general jump embedded boundary conditions (J.E.B.C.) on an immersed interface. Our model is based on algebraic transmission conditions combining the stress and velocity jumps on the interface Σ separating two subdomains: they are well chosen to get the coercivity of the operator. It is issued from a generalization to vector elliptic problems of a previous model stated for scalar problems with jump boundary conditions (Angot (2003, 2005) [2], [3]). The proposed model is first proved to be well-posed in the whole fictitious domain and some sub-models are identified. A family of fictitious domain methods can be then derived within the same unified formulation which provides various interface or boundary conditions, e.g. a given stress of Neumann or Fourier type or a velocity Dirichlet condition. In particular, we prove the consistency of the given-traction E.B.C. method including the so-called do nothing outflow boundary condition.  相似文献

We prove weak and strong maximum principles, including a Hopf lemma, for C 2 subsolutions to equations defined by linear, second-order, linear, elliptic partial differential operators whose principal symbols vanish along a portion of the domain boundary. The boundary regularity property of the C 2 subsolutions along this boundary vanishing locus ensures that these maximum principles hold irrespective of the sign of the Fichera function. Boundary conditions need only be prescribed on the complement in the domain boundary of the principal symbol's vanishing locus. We obtain uniqueness and a priori maximum principle estimates for C 2 solutions to boundary value and obstacle problems defined by these boundary-degenerate elliptic operators with partial Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We also prove weak maximum principles and uniqueness for W 1, 2 solutions to the corresponding variational equations and inequalities defined with the aide of weighted Sobolev spaces. The domain is allowed to be unbounded when the operator coefficients and solutions obey certain growth conditions.  相似文献

The existence of radial solutions of Δu + λg(|x|)f(u) = 0 in annuli with Dirichlet(Dirichlet/Neumann) boundary conditions is investigated. It is proved that the problems have at least two positive radial solutions on any annulus if f is superlinear at 0 and sublinear at ∞.  相似文献

We establish uniform Lipschitz estimates for second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating, almost‐periodic coefficients. We give interior estimates as well as estimates up to the boundary in bounded C1,α domains with either Dirichlet or Neumann data. The main results extend those in the periodic setting due to Avellaneda and Lin for interior and Dirichlet boundary estimates and later Kenig, Lin, and Shen for the Neumann boundary conditions. In contrast to these papers, our arguments are constructive (and thus the constants are in principle computable) and the results for the Neumann conditions are new even in the periodic setting, since we can treat nonsymmetric coefficients. We also obtain uniform W1,p estimates.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We propose a new numerical method for the solution of the Bernoulli free boundary value problem for harmonic functions in a doubly connected domain D in where an unknown free boundary Γ0 is determined by prescribed Cauchy data on Γ0 in addition to a Dirichlet condition on the known boundary Γ1. Our main idea is to involve the conformal mapping method as proposed and analyzed by Akduman, Haddar, and Kress for the solution of a related inverse boundary value problem. For this, we interpret the free boundary Γ0 as the unknown boundary in the inverse problem to construct Γ0 from the Dirichlet condition on Γ0 and Cauchy data on the known boundary Γ1. Our method for the Bernoulli problem iterates on the missing normal derivative on Γ1 by alternating between the application of the conformal mapping method for the inverse problem and solving a mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary value problem in D. We present the mathematical foundations of our algorithm and prove a convergence result. Some numerical examples will serve as proof of concept of our approach. Summary. We consider the heat equation in a smooth domain of R with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. It is solved by using its integral formulation with double-layer potentials, where the unknown , the jump of the solution through the boundary, belongs to an anisotropic Sobolev space. We approximate by the Galerkin method and use a prewavelet basis on , which characterizes the anisotropic space. The use of prewavelets allows to compress the stiffness matrix from to when N is the size of the matrix, and the condition number of the compressed matrix is uniformly bounded as the initial one in the prewavelet basis. Finally we show that the compressed scheme converges as fast as the Galerkin one, even for the Dirichlet problem which does not admit a coercive variational formulation. We study the spectrum of Schrödinger operators with matrixvalued potentials, utilizing tools from infinite-dimensional symplectic geometry. Using the spaces of abstract boundary values, we derive relations between the Morse and Maslov indices for a family of operators on a Hilbert space obtained by perturbing a given self-adjoint operator by a smooth family of bounded self-adjoint operators. The abstract results are applied to the Schrödinger operators with θ-periodic, Dirichlet, and Neumann boundary conditions. In particular, we derive an analogue of the Morse-Smale Index Theorem for multi-dimensional Schrödinger operators with periodic potentials. For quasi-convex domains in Rn, we recast the results, connecting the Morse and Maslov indices using the Dirichlet and Neumann traces on the boundary of the domain.  相似文献

Mixed boundary value problems are characterised by a combination of Dirichlet and Neumann conditions along at least one boundary. Historically, only a very small subset of these problems could be solved using analytic series methods (“analytic” is taken here to mean a series whose terms are analytic in the complex plane). In the past, series solutions were obtained by using an appropriate choice of axes, or a co-ordinate transformation to suitable axes where the boundaries are parallel to the abscissa and the boundary conditions are separated into pure Dirichlet or Neumann form. In this paper, I will consider the more general problem where the mixed boundary conditions cannot be resolved by a co-ordinate transformation. That is, a Dirichlet condition applies on part of the boundary and a Neumann condition applies along the remaining section. I will present a general method for obtaining analytic series solutions for the classic problem where the boundary is parallel to the abscissa. In addition, I will extend this technique to the general mixed boundary value problem, defined on an arbitrary boundary, where the boundary is not parallel to the abscissa. I will demonstrate the efficacy of the method on a well known seepage problem.  相似文献
