New strategies for the synthesis of perfectly alternating segmented polyimide-polydimethyl siloxane copolymers were developed by utilizing a transimidization method. Imide oligomers endcapped with 2-aminopyrimidine were reacted with aminopropyl terminated (dimethyl siloxane) oligomers to afford perfectly alternating segmented imide siloxane copolymers. The polymerization was conducted in solvents such as chlorobenzene and chlorofrom. High molecular weight, fully imidized perfectly alternating segmented imide siloxane copolymers were obtained within 2 h at temperatures of 60-110°C. The mechanism of the reaction was further elucidated via model compounds and NMR characterization. The block copolymers exhibited two Tgs due to the microphase separation of the polyimide and polysiloxane phases. The Tg of the polyimide phase was a function of the length of the polyimide block. However, partial phase mixing was also evident from the DSC results on the imide siloxane copolymers prepared with low molecular weight polyimide segments. Thermooxidative stability and tensile properties of the perfectly alternating segmented imide siloxane copolymers were found to be principally dependent on the amount of poly (dimethyl siloxane) incorporated in the copolymer and did not correlate with the poly (dimethyl siloxane) or polyimide block lengths. The stress-strain behavior of both solvent cast films or molded films is also reported. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Copper(I) catalyzed azide‐alkyne 1,3‐Huisgen cycloaddition reaction afforded the synthesis of triazole‐containing polyesters and segmented block copolyesters at moderate temperatures. Triazole‐containing homopolyesters exhibited significantly increased (~40 °C) glass transition temperatures (Tg) relative to high temperature, melt synthesis of polyesters with analogous structures. Quantitative synthesis of azido‐terminated poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) allowed for the preparation of segmented polyesters, which exhibited increased solubility and mechanical ductility relative to triazole‐containing homopolyesters. Differential scanning calorimetry demonstrated a soft segment (SS) Tg near ?60 °C for the segmented polyesters, consistent with microphase separation. Tensile testing revealed Young's moduli ranging from 7 to 133 MPa as a function of hard segment (HS) content, and stress at break values approached 10 MPa for 50 wt % HS segmented click polyesters. Dynamic mechanical analysis demonstrated an increased rubbery plateau modulus with increased HS content, and the Tg's of both the SS and HS did not vary with composition, confirming microphase separation. Atomic force microscopy also indicated microphase separated and semicrystalline morphologies for the segmented click polyesters. This is the first report detailing the preparation of segmented copolyesters using click chemistry for the formation of ductile membranes with excellent thermomechanical response. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phenylquinoxaline–aryl ester block copolymers were synthesized using well-defined phenolic hydroxyl terminated oligomers via a monomers/oligomer approach. Phenylquinoxaline oligomers with molecular weights of 5600 and 12,900 g/mol were prepared from the condensation of 1,4-bis(phenylglyoxalyl)benzene and 3,3′-diaminobenzidine in the presence of 4-hydroxylbenzil. The oligomers were copolymerized with isophthaloyl chloride and bisphenol A in tetrachloroethane to afford the desired phenylquinoxaline–aryl ester block copolymers. Copolymers with polyester compositions ranging from 15–50 wt % were prepared by controlling the monomers/oligomer stoichiometry. The majority of the materials displayed single phase morphologies with Tgs intermediate to the Tgs for the poly (phenylquinoxaline) and polyester homopolymers. Plots of the reciprocal of the Tg of the copolymers versus composition agreed well with values predicted by the Fox equation. A multiphase morphology was obtained for the copolymer with the highest polyester block length (? 13,000 g/mol), which displayed a Tg at 190 and 300°C indicative of a glassy–glassy system. Significant improvement in the elongations were observed for the copolymers relative to the poly(phenylquinoxaline) homopolymer. The improved elongations were obtained with minimal sacrifice to the modulus. These materials represent the first example of poly(phenylquinoxaline) block copolymers from well-defined phenylquinoxaline oligomers.  相似文献

A phenylquinoxaline (PQ) AB monomer mixture was treated with monofunctional and difunctional end‐capping agents and with and without a coupling agent to afford phenylethynyl‐terminated linear PQ oligomers. The resulting PQ oligomers were soluble in common organic solvents and had intrinsic viscosities (IVs) of 0.21–0.30 dL/g. The glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of the diphenylethynyl‐end‐capped PQ oligomer on both sides increased the most, from 215 °C (before curing) to 251 °C (after curing). The PQ AB2 monomer, which acted as both a coupling agent and a monomer for the hyperbranched polymer, was treated with an AB monomer and end‐capping agents to afford phenylethynyl‐terminated hyperbranched polyphenylquinoxalines (PPQs). They were also soluble in common organic solvents, had IVs of 1.00–1.65 dL/g and Tg's of 251–253 °C, and underwent exothermic cure with maxima around 412–442 °C. The Tg's of the cured hyperbranched PPQs ranged from 258 to 261 °C, depending on the number of phenylethynyl groups on the surface. After further curing, they displayed a Tg of 316 °C in one sample and turned into a fully crosslinked network. The dynamic melt viscosities of a linear oligomer (IV = 0.21 dL/g), a hyperbranched sample (IV = 1.00 dL/g), and a linear reference PPQ (IV = 1.29 dL/g) were compared with respect to the processing temperature. The PQ oligomer and hyperbranched PPQ had low melt viscosities. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 6318–6330, 2004  相似文献

Small-angle light-scattering (SALS), Polarized light microscopy (PLM), differntial scanning calorimetry (DSC), and small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) were used to study morphological changes in segmented polyurethanes with 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and 1,4-butanediol (BD) as the hard segment. It was found. for the first time, that spherulites could form from the melt by quenching the polyurethanes in the melt state to annealing temperatures between 120°C and Th, the highest annealing temperature for spherulite formation. Th ranged from 140°C to ca. 170°C and depended upon the hard-and soft-segment compatibility. Within the range 120°C to Th, the radius of the spherulite increased with increasing hard-segment content at each fixed annealing temperature. Annealing at 135–140°C gave rise to the largest spherulites. SAXS was used to investigate the phase-separated structures corresponding to the spherulite formation. The interdomain spacing increased with increasing hard-segment content and with increasing annealing temperature. The degree of phase separation first increased with increasing annealing temperature from room temperatures (ca. 25°C), reached a maximum at ca. 107°C, and then decreased with further increase in the annealing temperature. On the basis of these observations, the mechanisms of phase separation, crystallization, and spherulite formation are discussed. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of series of segmented poly(propylene glycol) (PPG)‐based ammonium ionenes is described. Bromine end‐capped oligomers were successfully synthesized using the reaction of 6‐bromohexanoyl chloride with 1000, 2000, and 4000 g/mol PPGs. 1H NMR spectroscopy, titration studies, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization‐time of flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrometry revealed the difunctionality of the oligomers. First, a series of PPG‐based ammonium ionenes was synthesized from bromine end‐capped PPG oligomers and N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethyl‐1,6‐hexanediamine. For this series, a single glass transition temperature (Tg) of approximately ?66 °C was observed through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC); dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed the onset of flow ranged from 20 to 80 °C. In addition, a series of PPG‐based ammonium ionenes containing 1,12‐dibromododecane was synthesized to increase the aliphatic hard segment (HS) content and enhance the mechanical properties of the resulting materials. For these, two Tg's were observed using DMA; DMA also showed the onset of flow of ionenes containing higher HS content (33 wt %) occurred in the range of 100–140 °C. Tensile analysis for these ionenes demonstrated an average tensile strength at break ranging from 0.2 to 2.4 MPa. Small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) profiles for these ionenes showed that Bragg distances increase linearly with the molecular weight of PPG soft segment. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of butyl acrylate (BA), divinyl benzene (DVB) and vinyltrimethoxysilane (TMVS) on the thermal properties of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-butyl acrylate-co-acrylic acid) was investigated. Glass transition temperature (Tg), melting temperature (Tm) and specific heat capacity of the copolymers were investigated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Thermal stability of the copolymers which is associated with the degradation temperature (Td) was studied by Thermogravimetric Analysis. Polyacrylates with Tg ranges between -19°Cand 19°C were obtained. With the incorporation of >7 wt% of DVB, the Tg of the copolymer increases from about ?17°C to ?10°C even though they have not undergone UV irradiation. Gel content results prove that crosslinking has occurred in the copolymers. With increasing amount of TMVS from 0 wt% to 7 wt%, the Tm of the copolymers prepared at acidic pH is about 40-60°C higher than that at the alkaline pH. However, the addition of TMVS gives no significant effect to the Tg and Td of the copolymer films. The thermal stability of the copolymer has improved with increasing amount of BA and DVB, with DVB being more effective. The highest Td of 425°C with 8% of DVB has been obtained. Consequently, a polyacrylate copolymer with a Tg of about ?13°C, a Tm of 170 °C and a Td of about 424°C has been successfully synthesized. Hence, the soft polyacrylate with its relatively high Tm and Td could serve as a superb material especially to be applied in the areas that require high melting temperature and good thermal stability.  相似文献

Using the organic compound 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD) as a catalyst for step‐growth polymerization, a series of well‐defined hydroxyl‐telechelic renewable aliphatic polyesters (including poly(1,3‐propylene adipate); poly(1,4‐butylene adipate); poly(1,12‐dodecylene sebacate); and poly(1,2‐dimethylethylene adipate), PDMEA) were synthesized and studied. PDMEA is a novel polyester, which has not been reported before. The results of 1H NMR and Matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry indicate that the polymers are fully hydroxyl terminated. From differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermograms, we found that the glass transition temperatures (Tg) of these polyesters are below ?20 °C. Only a Tg but no melting peak is observed in the DSC curve of the novel PDMEA. This indicates that PDMEA, contrary to the other renewable polyesters, is totally amorphous. Furthermore, using hexamethylene diisocyanate and hexamethylene diamine, poly(ester urethane urea)s (PEUUs) based on PDMEA were successfully synthesized. The Tg of the prepared PEUUs is below 0 °C, and no melting behavior of the soft‐segment is observed. The PEUU, with a flow temperature of over 200 °C, thus behaves as an elastomer at room temperature. Its mechanical properties, such as a relatively low tensile E‐modulus (≈20 MPa) at room temperature and a sufficiently high strain at break (≈560%), make it suitable for use in, for example, biomedical applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block, random, and gradient copolymers of styrene (S) and acrylic acid (AA) are synthesized by conventional or controlled radical polymerization, and their glass transition temperature (Tg) behaviors are compared. The location and breadth of the Tgs are determined using derivatives of differential scanning calorimetry heating curves. Each S/AA random copolymer exhibits one narrow Tg, consistent with a single phase of limited compositional nanoheterogeneity. Block copolymers exhibit two narrow Tgs originating from nanophase separation into ordered domains with nearly pure S or nearly pure AA repeat units. Each gradient copolymer exhibits a Tg response with a ~50–56 °C breadth that extends beyond the upper Tg of the block copolymers. For copolymers of similar composition, the maximum value in the gradient copolymer Tg response is consistent with that of a random copolymer, which has an enhanced Tg relative to poly(acrylic acid) due to more effective hydrogen bonding when AA units are separated along the chain backbone by S units. These results indicate that gradient copolymers with ordered nanostructures can be rationally designed, which exhibit broad glass transitions that extend to higher temperature than the Tgs observed with block copolymers. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiator, namely, 2‐(1‐(2‐azidoethoxy)ethoxy)ethyl 2‐bromo‐2‐methylpropanoate containing both “cleavable” acetal linkage and “clickable” azido group was synthesized. Well‐defined azido‐terminated poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)s (PNIPAAm‐N3)s with molecular weights and dispersity in the range 11,000–19,000 g mol?1 and 1.20–1.28, respectively, were synthesized employing the initiator by ATRP. Acetal containing PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm block copolymer was obtained by alkyne–azide click reaction of azido‐terminated PNIPAAm‐N3 with propargyl‐terminated PCL. Critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm copolymer in aqueous solution was found to be 8.99 × 10?6 M. Lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm copolymer was found to be 32 °C which was lower than that of the precursor PNIPAAm‐N3 (36.4 °C). The effect of dual stimuli viz . temperature and pH on size and morphology of the assemblies of PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm block copolymer revealed that the copolymer below LCST assembled in spherical micelles which subsequently transformed to unstable vesicles above the LCST. Heating these assemblies above 40 °C led to the precipitation of PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm block copolymer. Whereas, at decreased pH, micelles of PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm copolymer disintegrate due to the cleavage of acetal linkage and precipitation of hydrophobic hydroxyl‐terminated PCL. The encapsulated pyrene release kinetics from the micelles of synthesized PCL‐b‐PNIPAAm copolymer was found to be faster at higher temperature and at lower pH. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Poly(ethylene terephthalate)‐poly(m‐xylylene adipamide) PET‐MXD6 copolymers were prepared by reactive blending of equimolar PET/MXD6 blends at 285 °C for different times in presence of terephthalic acid (1 wt %). First, the partial hydrolysis of PET and MXD6 occurs, yielding oligomers terminated with the reactive aromatic carboxyl groups. These oligomers quickly react with ester and amide inner groups producing a PET‐MXD6 copolymer that may compatibilize the initial biphasic blend. In this homogeneous environment, the aliphatic carboxyl‐terminated MXD6 chains, inactive in the initial biphasic blend, may promote the exchange reactions determining the formation of a random copolymer at longer reaction time (120 min). The progress of exchange reactions, and the microstructure of the formed copolyesteramides, versus the reaction time was followed by 1H and 13C NMR analyses using a CDCl3/TFA‐d/(CF3CO)2O mixture as solvent and applying appropriate mathematical models. Dyads and triads sequences were thoroughly characterized by NMR. Semicrystalline block copolymers were obtained at reaction time lower than 45 min. All PET‐MXD6 copolymers show a single Tg that change as a function of the dyads molar composition in the copolymers. The measured Tg values match with those calculated by a proposed modified Fox equation that take into account the weight fraction of the four dyad components of the PET‐MXD6 copolymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A thick film of aniline-formaldehyde copolymer and PMMA is synthesized via dispersion of aniline-formaldehyde copolymer powder as filler particles in PMMA with two different concentrations. Variation of the complex elastic modulus and mechanical loss factor (tanδ) with temperature is studied. It is observed that the complex elastic modulus decreases with temperature owing to thermal expansion of films. On the other hand, tanδ increases up to a characteristic temperature beyond which it shows a decreasing trend toward melting. Transition temperature T g of sample S1 (pure PMMA) is found to be 80°C. In sample S2 (1 wt % aniline formaldehyde copolymer), the peak of tanδ at a lower temperature (66°C) corresponds to glass transition temperature T g of the PMMA matrix, while the peak of tanδ at a higher temperature (107.8°C) corresponds to T g of a polymer chain restricted by filler particles of aniline-formaldehyde copolymer. A further increase (10 wt % aniline-formaldehyde copolymer) in the concentration of filler particles of aniline-formaldehyde copolymer results in a more compact structure and a shift of T g to a higher temperature, 122.2°C. This shift in the glass transition temperature of thick films of aniline-formaldehyde copolymer and PMMA is dependent upon the concentration of filler particles in the sample.  相似文献

A series of acetylene-terminated phenylquinoxaline oligomers have been prepared which cure by addition, without the evolution of volatiles. The synthesis utilized the novel terminal acetylene end-capping reagent, 3-(3,4-diaminophenoxy)phenylacetylene. The end-capped oligomers were soluble (20–30%) in low-boiling organic solvents and exhibited a high degree of flow at their softening temperatures. Thermal analytical data obtained on the oligomers indicated initial softening in the vicinity of 160°C and a strong polymerization exotherm reaching a maximum at 274°C. Cured samples (8 hr at 280°C) exhibited Tg values of approximately 320°C. Mass spectrometry–thermogravimetric analysis of the polymers demonstrated that no volatiles were emitted during cure, and that decomposition of the resins initiated at 465°C. Synthetic routes to the acetylene terminated phenylquinoxaline oligomers and the end-capping reagent are discussed as well as the physical properties of the oligomer and cured system.  相似文献

Linear segmented polyesters containing soft perfluoropolyether (PFPE) and hard aromatic segments are obtained by an interfacial polycondensation reaction of an acyl chloride-ended fluorinated prepolymer with various aromatic diphenols in the presence of phase transfer catalysts (PTC) as accelerators. Experimental conditions for reaching high molecular weights are discussed. The calorimetric analysis (DSC) of all the polyesters synthesized shows a typical biphasic morphology, where a very low Tg (< −110°C) corresponding to the segregated PFPE moiety, is always accompanied by another Tg or a higher melting temperature, depending on the nature of the hard phase. Dynamic-mechanical analysis (DMA) has been carried out confirming the DSC results and suggesting diversified mechanical behaviors at the various temperatures in line with the amorphous or semicrystalline nature of the polymer. Chemical resistance was finally tested by dipping in several solvents and chemicals. The new polyesters show high contact angles, a moderate swelling in many organic solvents and excellent stability in aggressive hydrolytic environments. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Well-defined A-block-B type cellulose derivatives consisting of cellulose triacetate (CTA) and oligoamide-15 were synthesized. Chemical structures of the diblock copolymers were characterized by MALDI-TOF MS, 1H-NMR, and GPC. Influence of length of CTA and oligoamide-15 segments on their thermal properties was investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). All diblock copolymers displayed T g, T c, and T m transition temperatures. Their T g and T m values increased with the increase of molecular weight of CTA segment. The crystallinity of diblock copolymers increased after isothermal crystallization at 200 °C. Its X-ray analysis revealed that the diblock copolymer had CTA II crystal structure. Thermal analysis supported microphase separation between CTA and oligoamide-15 segments at room temperature, because T g and T m values of polyamide-15 are −7 °C and 170–180 °C, respectively.  相似文献

A new benzoxazine aldehyde group containing monomer 3‐phenyl‐6‐formyl‐3, 4‐dihydro‐2H‐1, 3‐benzoxazine (Ald‐B) was synthesized via the Mannich reaction of formaldehyde, p‐hydroxybenzaldehyde, and aniline. The viscosities and curing behavior of the resins were studied. The results indicated that Ald‐B has an initial viscosity lower than 0.110 Pa s at 90°C and the maximum temperature of the exotherm was at 196°C. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of the copolymer of Ald‐B and methylenedianiline‐type bis‐benzoxazine (B‐BOZ) showed only one Tg of 251°C and high crosslink density in the matrix. The thermal stability of the copolymer was improved noticeably and the char yield at 800°C is 68.4%. The tensile strength and flexural strength of this resin cast are 72 and 137 MPa, respectively. A miscible homopolymer–copolymer pair viz., poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA)–poly(styrene‐co‐butyl acrylate) (SBA) is reported. The miscibility has been studied using differential scanning calorimetry. While 1 : 1 (w/w) blends with SBA containing 23 and 34 wt % styrene (ST) become miscible only above 225 and 185 °C respectively indicating existence of UCST, those with SBA containing 63 wt % ST is miscible at the lowest mixing temperature (i.e., Tg's) but become immiscible when heated at ca 250 °C indicating the existence of LCST. Miscibility for blends with SBA of still higher ST content could not be determined by this method because of the closeness of the Tg's of the components. The miscibility window at 230 °C refers to the two copolymer compositions of which one with the lower ST content is near the UCST, while the other with the higher ST content is near the LCST. Using these compositions and the mean field theory binary interaction parameters between the monomer residues have been calculated. The values are χST‐BA = 0.087 and χEMA‐BA = 0.013 at 230 °C. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 38: 369–375, 2000  相似文献

Summary: Biodegradable thermosensitive triblock copolymers based on poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA-PEG-PLGA) prepared via ring opening polymerization were modified by itaconic anhydride (ITA), which gives copolymer both reactive double bonds and functional carboxylic acid groups essential for the reaction with biological active material. Functionalization conditions comprising ITA purification, temperature, time and presence of solvent were optimized with the respect to amount of end-capped ITA. Maximum of 76.6 mol. % of bonded ITA were reached via “one pot” reaction in a bulk at 110 °C after 1.5 h. ITA functionalization thermally stabilized the original copolymer by increasing the initial degradation temperature Td from 284 °C to 294 °C and changing the negative glass transition temperature (Tg = -1.8 °C) to positive one up to 2.4 °C. The novel functionalized macromonomer can be cross-linked either chemically or physically in order to produce new functionalized hydrogel network applicable as biomedical material in tissue engineering.  相似文献

Thin films of 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3',4'-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate were UV irradiated (1.1 J cm-2) under isothermal conditions ranging from 0 to 50°C. Under these conditions the polymerization advanced quickly but only to a conversion level of less than 10% before the reaction rate slowed by more than an order of magnitude. This drop off in rate was not caused by the glass transition temperature, T g, reaching or exceeding the reaction temperature, T rxn, since the epoxide's T g remained at least 40°C below T rxn. Raising the sample temperature above 60°C caused a sharp increase in the conversion level. At 100°C conversion exceeds 80% and the ultimate T g approaches 190°C. The addition of 10 mass% 1,6-hexanediol, HD, to the epoxy caused the conversion at room temperature to quintuple over the level obtained without the alcohol present. The heat liberated from this alcohol epoxy blend during cure on a UV conveyor belt system caused the sample's temperature to increase by about 100°C above ambient whereas the epoxy alone under these conditions only experienced a modest temperature rise of about 26°C. If the amount of HD in the blend is increased above 10% the heat of reaction at 23°C decreases due to HD being trapped in a nonreactive crystalline phase. Boosting reaction temperatures above 50°C melts the HD crystals and yields significantly improved conversion ratios. As the level of alcohol blended with the epoxy is raised its ultimate T g is lowered and when the concentration of alcohol in the blend nears 30 mass%T g drops below room temperature. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A novel low‐temperature curing polytriazole resin was prepared from a triazide and a tetraalkyne and characterized. The resin can be cured at 70°C. The glass transition temperature Tg and thermal decomposition temperature Td5 of the cured resin with the molar ratio of azide to alkyne group [A]/[B] = 1.0:1.0 reached 324 and 355°C, respectively. The study on the curing kinetics of the resin shows that the apparent activation energy of the curing reaction is 93 kJ mol?1. The flexural strength of the cured resin reached 137.6 MPa at room temperature and 102.6 MPa at 185°C. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
