We consider boundary value problems for the Laplace operator in a domain with boundary conditions of rapidly varying type: the Dirichlet homogeneous condition and the third (Fourier) boundary condition or a Steklov type condition. We construct the limit (homogenized) problem and prove that solutions, eigenvalues, and eigenfunctions of the original problem converge respectively to solutions, eigenvalues, and eigenfunctions of the limit problem. We consider a planar waveguide modeled by the Laplacian in a straight infinite strip with the Dirichlet boundary condition on the upper boundary and with frequently alternating boundary conditions (Dirichlet and Neumann) on the lower boundary. The homogenized operator is the Laplacian subject to the Dirichlet boundary condition on the upper boundary and to the Dirichlet or Neumann condition on the lower one. We prove the uniform resolvent convergence for the perturbed operator in both cases and obtain the estimates for the rate of convergence. Moreover, we construct the leading terms of the asymptotic expansions for the first band functions and the complete asymptotic expansion for the bottom of the spectrum. Bibliography: 17 titles. We consider partial regularity for energy minimizing maps satisfying a partially free boundary condition. This condition takes the form of the requirement that a relatively open subset of the boundary of the domain manifold be mapped into a closed submanifold with non-empty boundary, contained in the target manifold. We obtain an optimal estimate on the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set of such a map. Our result can be interpreted as regularity result for a vector-valued Signorini, or thin-obstacle, problem.  相似文献

We investigate the large-time behavior of three types of initial-boundary value problems for Hamilton–Jacobi Equations with nonconvex Hamiltonians. We consider the Neumann or oblique boundary condition, the state constraint boundary condition and Dirichlet boundary condition. We establish general convergence results for viscosity solutions to asymptotic solutions as time goes to infinity via an approach based on PDE techniques. These results are obtained not only under general conditions on the Hamiltonians but also under weak conditions on the domain and the oblique direction of reflection in the Neumann case.  相似文献

This paper concerns the global existence and the large time behavior of strong and classical solutions to the two-dimensional (2D) Stokes approximation equations for the compressible flows. We consider the unique global strong solution or classical solution to the 2D Stokes approximation equations for the compressible flows together with the space-periodicity boundary condition or the no-stick boundary condition or Cauchy problem for arbitrarily large initial data. First, we prove that the density is bounded from above independent of time in all these cases. Secondly, we show that for the space-periodicity boundary condition or the no-stick boundary condition, if the initial density contains vacuum at least at one point, then the global strong (or classical) solution must blow up as time goes to infinity.  相似文献

We consider a competition–diffusion system for two competing species; the density of the first species satisfies a parabolic equation together with an inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition whereas the second one either satisfies a parabolic equation with a homogeneous Neumann boundary condition, or an ordinary differential equation. Under the situation where the two species spatially segregate as the interspecific competition rate becomes large, we show that the resulting limit problem turns out to be a free boundary problem. We focus on the singular limit of the interspecific reaction term, which involves a measure located on the free boundary.  相似文献

We consider an inverse boundary value problem for identifying the inclusion inside a known anisotropic conductive medium. We give a reconstruction procedure for identifying the inclusion from the Dirichlet–Neumann map or the Neumann–Dirichlet map associated with the mixed type boundary condition.  相似文献

We give a simple proof of a result of Xinan Ma concerning a necessary condition for the solvability of the two-dimensional Monge-Ampère equation subject to the contact angle or capillarity boundary condition. Our technique works for more general Monge-Ampère equations in any dimension, and also extends to some other boundary conditions.

We consider a boundary value problem for the Laplace operator in a model domain periodically perforated along the boundary. We assume that the homogeneous Neumann condition is posed on the exterior boundary and the homogeneous Dirichlet condition is posed on the boundary of the cavities. We construct and justify the asymptotic expansions of eigenelements of the boundary value problem.  相似文献

We consider approximation by partial time steps of a smooth solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in a smooth domain in two or three space dimensions with no-slip boundary condition. For small k > 0, we alternate the solution for time k of the inviscid Euler equations, with tangential boundary condition, and the solution of the linear Stokes equations for time k, with the no-slip condition imposed. We show that this approximation remains bounded in H2,p and is accurate to order k in Lp for p > ∞. The principal difficulty is that the initial state for each Stokes step has tangential velocity at the boundary generated during the Euler step, and thus does not satisfy the boundary condition for the Stokes step. The validity of such a fractional step method or splitting is an underlying principle for some computational methods. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We study a third-order dispersive linear evolution equation on the finite interval subject to an initial condition and inhomogeneous boundary conditions but, in place of one of the three boundary conditions that would typically be imposed, we use a nonlocal condition, which specifies a weighted integral of the solution over the spatial interval. Via adaptations of the Fokas transform method (or unified transform method), we obtain a solution representation for this problem. We also study the time periodic analog of this problem, and thereby obtain long time asymptotics for the original problem with time periodic boundary and nonlocal data.  相似文献

We consider nonlocal boundary value problems for three harmonic functions each of which is defined in its own domain. A contact condition is posed on the common part of the boundaries of these domains, and the Dirichlet or Neumann data (or mixed boundary conditions) are given on the remaining parts of the boundary. We prove the unique solvability of these problems.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the blow-up properties of the positive solutions to a degenerate parabolic system with nonlocal boundary condition. We give the criteria for finite time blow-up or global existence, which shows the important influence of nonlocal boundary. And then we establish the precise blow-up rate estimate for small weighted nonlocal boundary.  相似文献

We provide a geometric condition which determines whether or not every point on the metric boundary of a graph with the standard path metric is a Busemann point, that is, it is the limit point of a geodesic ray. We apply this and a related condition to investigate the structure of the metric boundary of Cayley graphs. We show that groups such as the braid group and the discrete Heisenberg group have boundary points of the Cayley graph which are not Busemann points when equipped with their usual generators.

We consider a model homogenization problem for the Poisson equation in a domain with a rapidly oscillating boundary which is a small random perturbation of a fixed hypersurface. A Fourier boundary condition with random coefficients is imposed on the oscillating boundary. We derive the effective boundary condition, prove a convergence result, and establish error estimates.  相似文献

We give a sufficient condition for curves on a plane or on a sphere such that if these give the boundary of a Willmore surface touching tangentially along the boundary the plane or the sphere respectively, the surface is necessarily a piece of the plane or a piece of the sphere. The condition we require is that the curves bound a strictly star-shaped domain with respect to the Euclidean geometry in the plane and with respect to the spherical geometry in the sphere, respectively.  相似文献

We consider the elliptic system of linear elasticity with bounded measurable coefficients in a domain where the second Korn inequality holds. We construct heat kernel of the system subject to Dirichlet, Neumann, or mixed boundary condition under the assumption that weak solutions of the elliptic system are Hölder continuous in the interior. Moreover, we show that if weak solutions of the mixed problem are Hölder continuous up to the boundary, then the corresponding heat kernel has a Gaussian bound. In particular, if the domain is a two dimensional Lipschitz domain satisfying a corkscrew or non-tangential accessibility condition on the set where we specify Dirichlet boundary condition, then we show that the heat kernel has a Gaussian bound. As an application, we construct Green's function for elliptic mixed problem in such a domain.  相似文献

We construct the fundamental solution or Green function for a divergence form elliptic system in two dimensions with bounded and measurable coefficients. Our main goal is construct the Green function for the operator with mixed boundary conditions in a Lipschitz domain. Thus we specify Dirichlet data on part of the boundary and Neumann data on the remainder of the boundary. We require a corkscrew or non-tangential accessibility condition on the set where we specify Dirichlet boundary conditions. Our proof proceeds by defining a variant of the space BMO(Ω) that is adapted to the boundary conditions and showing that the solution exists in this space. We also give a construction of the Green function with Neumann boundary conditions and the fundamental solution in the plane.  相似文献

We discuss the semigroup domination on a Riemannian manifold with boundary. Our main interest is the Hodge–Kodaira Laplacian for differential forms. We consider two kinds of boundary conditions; the absolutely boundary condition and the relative boundary condition. Our main tool is the square field operator. We also develop a general theory of semigroup commutation.  相似文献

We consider the Navier–Stokes equations for a compressible, viscous fluid with heat–conduction in a bounded domain of IR2 or IR3. Under the assumption that the external force field and the external heat supply are small we prove the existence and local uniqueness of a stationary solution satisfying a slip boundary condition. For the temperature we assume a Dirichlet or an oblique boundary condition.  相似文献
