The rate constant for the reactions of atomic chlorine with 1,4‐dioxane (k1), cyclohexane (k2), cyclohexane‐d12(k3), and n‐octane (k4) has been determined at 240–340 K using the relative rate/discharge fast flow/mass spectrometer (RR/DF/MS) technique developed in our laboratory. Essentially, no temperature dependence for these reactions was observed over this temperature range, with an average of k1 = (1.91 ± 0.20) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1, k2 = (2.91 ± 0.31) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1, k3 = (2.73 ± 0.30) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1, and k4 = (3.22 ± 0.36) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1, respectively. The kinetic isotope effect of the reaction of cyclohexane with atomic chlorine has also been determined to be 1.14 by directly monitoring the decay of both cyclohexane and cyclohexane‐d12 in the presence of chlorine atoms, which is consistent with the literature value of 1.20. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The adsorption of several toluene-soluble polymers at the toluene–water interface has been investigated by using the duNouy ring method of measuring interfacial tension γT /W . Polystyrene and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (11.1 mole-% vinyl acetate) have little affinity for this interface at 29°C, but poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) (M?n = 420,000) and ethyl cellulose (EC) (M?n = 50,100; 49.1% ethoxyl) adsorb significantly at concentrations as low as 1.0 × 10?4 g/100ml. A plot of interfacial tension lowering versus initial logarithm of initial bulk phase polymer concentration is linear from 1.0 × 10?4 to 1.0 × 10?1 g/100 ml for EC and 1.0 × 10?4 to 1.0 × 10?2 g/100 ml for PMMA. When the PMMA concentration increases to 1.15 × 10?1 g/100 ml, its adsorption behavior changes markedly. Prolonged time effects occur and adsorption becomes dependent upon dissolved water content of the toluene prior to formation of the toluene/water interface. Such effects are not observed with the other solutions studied. Increasing temperatures have variable effects on values of γT /W for the polymer solutions studied. Experiments with various polymer mixtures indicate that the polymer lowering T /W the most is preferentially adsorbed at the toluene–water interface and rapidly displaces less strongly adsorbed polymers.  相似文献

The reaction of atomic chlorine with CH3CH2OD has been examined using a discharge fast flow system coupled to a mass spectrometer combined with the relative rate method (RR/DF/MS). At 298 ± 2 K, the rate constant for the Cl + CH3CH2OD reaction was determined using cyclohexane as a reference and found to be k3 = (1.13 ± 0.21) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1. Mass spectral studies of the reaction products resulted in yields greater than 97% for the combined hydrogen abstraction at the α and β sites (3a + 3b) and less than 3% at the hydroxyl site (3c). As a calibration of the apparatus and the RR/DF/MS technique, the rate constant of the Cl + CH3CH2OH reaction was also determined using cyclohexane as the reference, and a value of k2 = (1.05 ± 0.07) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 was obtained at 298 ± 2 K, which was in excellent agreement with the value given in current literature. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A multimodular donor–acceptor tetrad featuring a bis(zinc porphyrin)–(zinc phthalocyanine) ((ZnP–ZnP)–ZnPc) triad and bis‐pyridine‐functionalized fullerene was assembled by a “two‐point” binding strategy, and investigated as a charge‐separating photosynthetic antenna‐reaction center mimic. The spectral and computational studies suggested that the mode of binding of the bis‐pyridine‐functionalized fullerene involves either one of the zinc porphyrin and zinc phthalocyanine (Pc) entities of the triad or both zinc porphyrin entities leaving ZnPc unbound. The binding constant evaluated by constructing a Benesi–Hildebrand plot by using the optical data was found to be 1.17×105 M ?1, whereas a plot of “mole‐ratio” method revealed a 1:1 stoichiometry for the supramolecular tetrad. The mode of binding was further supported by differential pulse voltammetry studies, in which redox modulation of both zinc porphyrin and zinc phthalocyanine entities was observed. The geometry of the tetrad was deduced by B3LYP/6‐31G* optimization, whereas the energy levels for different photochemical events was established by using data from the optical absorption and emission, and electrochemical studies. Excitation of the zinc porphyrin entity of the triad and tetrad revealed ultrafast singlet–singlet energy transfer to the appended zinc phthalocyanine. The estimated rate of energy transfer (kENT) in the case of the triad was found to be 7.5×1011 s?1 in toluene and 6.3×1011 s?1 in o‐dichlorobenzene, respectively. As was predicted from the energy levels, photoinduced electron transfer from the energy‐transfer product, that is, singlet‐excited zinc phthalocyanine to fullerene was verified from the femtosecond‐transient spectral studies, both in o‐dichlorobenzene and toluene. Transient bands corresponding to ZnPc ? + in the 850 nm range and C60 ? ? in the 1020 nm range were clearly observed. The rate of charge separation, kCS, and rate of charge recombination, kCR, for the (ZnP–ZnP)–ZnPc ? +:Py2C60 ? ? radical ion pair (from the time profile of 849 nm peak) were found to be 2.20×1011 and 6.10×108 s?1 in toluene, and 6.82×1011 and 1.20×109 s?1 in o‐dichlorobenzene, respectively. These results revealed efficient energy transfer followed by charge separation in the newly assembled supramolecular tetrad.  相似文献

A novel chemiluminescence (CL) method for the determination of hydrogen peroxide is described. Method is based on the transition metals in highest oxidation state complex, which include diperiodatoargentate (DPA) and diperiodatonickelate (DPN) and show excellent sensitisation on the luminol-H2O2 CL reaction with low luminol concentration in alkaline medium. In particular, the sensitiser which was previously reported (such as Co2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, KIO4, K3Fe(CN)6 etc.) to be unobserved CL due to poor sensitisation with such low concentration of luminol which makes the method hold high selectivity. Based on this observation, the detection limits were 6.5?×?10?9?mol?L?1 and 1.1?×?10?8?mol?L?1 hydrogen peroxide for the DPN- and DPA-luminol CL systems, respectively. The relative CL intensity was linear with the hydrogen peroxide concentration in the range of 2.0?×?10?8–6.0?×?10?6?mol?L?1 and 4.0?×?10?8–4.0?×?10?6?mol?L?1 for the DPN- and DPA-luminol CL systems, respectively. The proposed method had good reproducibility with a relative standard deviation of 3.4% (8.0?×?10?7?mol?L?1, n?=?7) and 1.0% (2.0?×?10?6?mol?L?1, n?=?7) for the DPN- and DPA-luminol CL systems, respectively. A satisfactory result has been gained for the determination of H2O2 in rainwater and artificial lake water by use of the proposed method.  相似文献

Activity coefficients of benzene, toluene, cyclohexane, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, and dichloromethane in binary solutions with polystyrene at 23.5°C have been determined using a piezo-electric sorption apparatus. The investigated solvent concentration ranges were 15 to 39 wt % for benzene, 14 to 29 wt % for toluene, 15 to 28 wt % for cyclohexane, 26 to 38 wt % for carbon tetrachloride, 24 to 46 wt % for chloroform, and 21 to 41 wt % for dichloromethane. The polystyrene (weight-averaged) molecular weights were 1.1 × 105 and 6.0 × 105 g/gmole. The weight-fraction activity coefficients (Ω1 = a1/w1) of cyclohexane, toluene, and carbon tetrachloride in polystyrene solutions determined in this work agree within experimental error with previously published values determined by measurement of vapor pressure lowering and vapor absorption by thin films. We find disagreement, at low solvent concentrations, between our results for benzene and chloroform and previously published results. We have analyzed our results using Flory's version of corresponding-states polymer solution theory. The theory can account, qualitatively, for the cyclohexane and carbon tetrachloride results. It cannot account for the toluene, benzene, dichloromethane, or chloroform results.  相似文献

Rate constants have been determined at 296 ± 2 K for the gas phase reaction of NO3 radicals with a series of aromatics using a relative rate technique. The rate constants obtained (in cm3 molecule?1 s?1 units) were: benzene, <2.3 × 10?17; toluene, (1.8 ± 1.0) × 10?17; o? xylene, (1.1 ± 0.5) × 10?16; m? xylene, (7.1 ± 3.4) × 10?17; p? xylene, (1.4 ± 0.6) × 10?16; 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene, (5,6 ± 2.6) × 10?16; 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene (5.4 - 2.5) × 10?16; 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, (2.4 ± 1.1) × 10?16; phenol, (2.1 ± 0.5) × 10?12; methoxybenzene, (5.0 ± 2.8) × 10?17; o-cresol, (1.20 ± 0.34) × 10?11; m-cresol, (9.2 ± 2.4) × 10?12; p-cresol, (1.27 ± 0.36) × 10?11; and benzaldehyde, (1.13 ± 0.25) × 10?15. These kinetic data, together with, in the case of phenol, product data, suggest that these reactions proceed via H-atom abstraction from the substituent groups. The magnitude of the rate constants for the hydroxy-substituted aromatics indicates that the nighttime reaction of NO3 radicals with these aromatics can be an important loss process for both NO3 radicals and these organics, as well as being a possible source of nitric acid, a key component of acid deposition.  相似文献

The kinetics of formation of the 1?:?1 complex of chromium(III) with 1,3-propanediamine-N,N′-diacetate-N,N′-di-3-propionate (1,3-pddadp) were followed spectrophotometrically at λ max?=?557?nm. The reaction was first-order in chromium(III). Increasing the 1,3-pddadp concentration from 2.2?×?10?2 to 0.11?mol?dm?3 accelerated the reaction rate. Increasing the hydrogen ion concentration from 1.995?×?10?5 to 6.31?×?10?4 mol?dm?3 retarded the reaction rate. The reaction rate was also retarded by increasing ionic strength and dielectric constant of the reaction medium. A mechanism was suggested to account for the results obtained which involves ion-pair formation between the various reactants. Values of 22?kJ?mol?1 and ?115?J?K?1 mol?1 were obtained for the energy and the entropy of activation, respectively, which indicate an associative mechanism. The logarithm of the formation constant of the 1?:?1 complex formed was 11.3.  相似文献

The kinetics of the photoinitiated reductions of methyl iodide and carbon tetrachloride by tri-n-butylgermanium hydride in cyclohexane at 25°C have been studied and absolute rate constants have been measured. Rate constants for the combination of CH3? and CCl3? radicals are equal within experimental error and are also equal to the values found for the self-reactions of most non-polymeric radicals in low viscosity solvents, i.e. ~1–3 × 109 M?1 sec?1. Rate constants for hydrogen atom abstraction by CH3? and CCl3? radicals are both ~1?2 × 105 M?1 sec?1. Tri-n-butyltin hydride is about 10–20 times as good a hydrogen donor to alkyl radicals as is tri-n-butylgermanium hydride. The strength of the germanium–hydrogen bond, D(n-Bu3Ge–H) is estimated to be approximately 84 kcal/mole.  相似文献

Photochemical Generation and Reactions of Benzonitrile-benzylide The low temperature irradiation of 2,3-diphenyl-2H-azirine ( 1 ) in DMBP-glass at ?196° has been reinvestigated. It was possible to convert 1 nearly quantitatively into the dipolar species benzonitrile-benzylide ( 3 , Φ3 = 0,78), which exhibits UV.-absorptions at 344 (? = 48000) and 244 nm (? = 28500) (Fig. 1, Tab. 1). Irradiation of 3 with 345 nm light at ?196° resulted in almost complete reconversion to the azirine 1 (Φ = 0,15; Fig. 2). When the solution of 3 in the DMBP-glass was warmed up to about ?160° a quantitative dimerization to 1,3,4, 6-tetraphenyl-2,5-diaza-1,3,5-hexatriene ( 8 ) occurred. This proves that 8 is not only formed by the indirect route 3 + 1 → 7 \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\longrightarrow }\limits^{hv} $\end{document} 11 → 8 known before (Scheme 1), but also by dimerization of 3 either by direct head to head coupling or via the intermediate e (p. 2675), followed by a fast thermal hydrogen transfer reaction. The occurrence of the dipolar intermediate 11 in the photochemical conversion of the bicyclic compound 7 to 8 could also be demonstrated by low temperature experiments: On irradiation at ?196° 7 gave the cherry red dipolar intermediate 11 (λmax = 520 nm), which at ?120° isomerizes to 8 . It should be noted, that neither 7 nor 11 are formed by dimerization reactions of 3 . Experiments carried out at room temperature demonstrate, that both processes for the formation of 8 may compete: Irradiation of a solution of 1 (DMBP, c = 8 × 10?4 to 5 × 10?3M ) with 350 nm light of high intensity (which does not excite the bicyclic compound 7 ) leads to a relative high photostationary concentration of the dipolar species 3 . Under these conditions the formation of 8 is due to dimerization of 3 (Φ8 = 0,19). With low light intensity only a very low stationary concentration of 3 can be obtained. Therefore the reaction of 3 with 1 , leading to the bicyclic intermediate 7 , becomes now predominant (Φ?1 = 1,55, which corresponds with the expected value of 2 × 0,8). Irradiation of 1 at ?130° with 350 nm light of high intensity gives 8 with a quantum yield of 0,44. This is in agreement with the theoretical value Φ8 = 0,4 for an exclusive formation of 8 by dimerization of 3 . The lower quantum yield for the formation of 8 at room temperature makes probable that under these conditions 3 not only dimerizes to 8 , but also to another, so far unidentified dimer, e.g. 2,3,5,6-Tetraphenyl-2,5-dihydropyrazine. By flash photolysis of a solution of 1 (cyclohexane, c = 10?4M , 25°) the disappearance of 3 could directly be measured by UV.-spectroscopy: At relative high concentrations (c ≥ 10?7M ) 3 disappeared according to a second order reaction with the rate constant k = 5 × 107M ?1S ?1. At lower concentrations (c ≤ 10?7M) the rate of disappearance of 3 follows first order kinetics. The rate constant of this pseudo first order reaction ( 3 + 1 → 7 ) has been determined to be 1 → 104M?1S?1. Using Padwa's table of relative rates for the cycloaddition of the dipolar species 3 to various dipolarophiles, including the azirine 1 , an absolute rate constant of k ≈ 8 × 108M ?1S ?1 for the addition of 3 to the most active dipolarophile fumaronitrile could be estimated. In cyclohexane at room temperature, the diffusion controlled rate constant equals 6,6 × 109M ?1S ?1. In Table 1 the UV.-maxima of several nitrile-ylides, among them a purely aliphatic one, are given.  相似文献

The electrical conductivity induced by pulse irradiation of liquid cyclohexane has been studied by means of microwave absorption. The conductivity in pure cyclohexane, due principally to the excess electron, is reduced to less than 10% of the initial value on addition of 5 × 10?4 M of the electron scavenger SF6. The conductivity remaining after addition of SF6 is however more than an order of magnitude larger than expected for massive ions in cyclohexane and, since it is almost completely removed by the addition of 4 × 10?3 M of the positive ion scavenger NH3, is attributed mainly to the high mobility of the positive hole in this liquid. The ratio of the electron to hole mobility is determined to be 15. The mean lifetime of the hole under the present conditions is 86 ns. The rate constant for reaction of the hole with NH3 is determined to be 1.8 × 1011 M?1 s?1. From the conductivity remaining after removal of both the electron and the hole the sum of the mobilities of the resulting molecular ions is determined to be 8.4 × 10?4 cm2 V?1 s?1.  相似文献

Reaction with hydroxyl radicals (OH) is the major pathway for removal of cyclic volatile methyl siloxanes (cVMS) from air. We present new measurements of second‐order rate constants for reactions of the cVMS octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), and dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) with OH determined at temperatures between 313 and 353 K. Our measurements were made using the method of relative rates with cyclohexane as a reference substance and were conducted in a 140‐mL gas‐phase reaction chamber with online mass spectrometry analysis. When extrapolated to 298 K, our measured reaction rate constants of D4 and D5 with the OH radical are 1.9 × 10?12 (95% confidence interval (CI): (1.7–2.2) × 10?12) and 2.6 × 10?12 (CI: (2.3–2.9) × 10?12) cm3 molecule?1 s?1, respectively, which are 1.9× and 1.7× faster than previous measurements. Our measured rate constant for D6 is 2.8 × 10?12 (CI: (2.5–3.2) × 10?12) cm3 molecule?1 s?1 and to our knowledge there are no comparable laboratory measurements in the literature. Reaction rates for D5 were 33% higher than for D4 (CI: 30–37%), whereas the rates for D6 were only 8% higher than for D5 (CI: 5–10%). The activation energies of the reactions of D4, D5, and D6 with OH were not statistically different and had a value of 4300 ± 2800 J/mol.  相似文献

The temperature ΘA2 at which the second virial coefficient A2 is zero for ring polystyrenes is 28.5°C in cyclohexane, independent of molecular weight in the range 2 × 104 to 4.5 × 105. This cannot be explained solely by the Candau–Rempp–Benoit theory, which takes into account the effect of segment density on ΘA2 The radius of gyration of a ring is found to be approximately one-half that of a linear polymer with the same molecular weight. The intrinsic viscosities [η] and intrinsic translational friction coefficients [f] of ring polystyrenes with molecular weights ranging from 7 × 103 to 4.5 × 105 have been measured in cyclohexane at 34.5°C (Θ, the Flory theta temperature for linear polystyrenes) and in toluene (a good solvent). The results are compared with those for linear polystyrene. It is found that the Mark–Houwink exponent is less than one-half in cyclohexane at Θ. In toluene it is 0.67 compared to 0.73 for linear polystyrene. The hydrodynamic measurements suggest that large rings are less expanded than the linear polymers with the same molecular weight, contrary to many predictions.  相似文献

The kinetics of the atmospherically important gas-phase reactions of acenaphthene and acenaphthylene with OH and NO3 radicals, O3 and N2O5 have been investigated at 296 ± 2 K. In addition, rate constants have been determined for the reactions of OH and NO3 radicals with tetralin and styrene, and for the reactions of NO3 radicals and/or N2O5 with naphthalene, 1- and 2-methylnaphthalene, 2,3-dimethylnaphthalene, toluene, toluene-α,α,α-d3 and toluene-d8. The rate constants obtained (in cm3 molecule?1 s?1 units) at 296 ± 2 K were: for the reactions of O3; acenaphthene, <5 × 10?19 and acenaphthylene, ca. 5.5 × 10?16; for the OH radical reactions (determined using a relative rate method); acenaphthene, (1.03 ± 0.13) × 10?10; acenaphthylene, (1.10 ± 0.11) × 10?10; tetralin, (3.43 ± 0.06) × 10?11 and styrene, (5.87 ± 0.15) × 10?11; for the reactions of NO3 (also determined using a relative rate method); acenaphthene, (4.6 ± 2.6) × 10?13; acenaphthylene, (5.4 ± 0.8) × 10?12; tetralin, (8.6 ± 1.3) × 10?15; styrene, (1.51 ± 0.20) × 10?13; toluene, (7.8 ± 1.5) × 10?17; toluene-α,α,α-d3, (3.8 ± 0.9) × 10?17 and toluene-d8, (3.4 ± 1.9) × 10?17. The aromatic compounds which were observed to react with N2O5 and the rate constants derived were (in cm3 molecule?1 s?1 units): acenaphthene, 5.5 × 10?17; naphthalene, 1.1 × 10?17; 1-methylnaphthalene, 2.3 × 10?17; 2-methylnaphthalene, 3.6 × 10?17 and 2,3-dimethylnaphthalene, 5.3 × 10?17. These data for naphthylene and the alkylnaphthalenes are in good agreement with our previous absolute and relative N2O5 reaction rate constants, and show that the NO3 radical reactions with aromatic compounds proceed by overall H-atom abstraction from substituent-XH bonds (where X = C or O), or by NO3 radical addition to unsaturated substituent groups while the N2O5 reactions only occur for aromatic compounds containing two or more fused six-membered aromatic rings.  相似文献

Absolute rate constants have been measured for the reactions of trichloromethylperoxyl radicals with cyclohexane, cyclohexene, and hexamethylbenzene. The CCl3O2 radicals were produced by pulse radiolysis of air-saturated CCl4 solutions containing various amounts of the hydrocarbons. The rate constants were determined by competition with the one-electron oxidation of metalloporphyrins, using the rate of formation of the metalloporphyrin radical cation absorption to monitor the reaction by kinetic spectrophotometry. The rate constants for hydrogen abstraction from cyclohexane, cyclohexene, and hexamethylbenzene were found to be 1 × 103, 1.0 × 105, and 7.5 × 104 M?1 s?1, respectively.  相似文献

Rate constants for the gas-phase reactions of the four oxygenated biogenic organic compounds cis-3-hexen-1-ol, cis-3-hexenylacetate, trans-2-hexenal, and linalool with OH radicals, NO3 radicals, and O3 have been determined at 296 ± 2 K and atmospheric pressure of air using relative rate methods. The rate constants obtained were (in cm3 molecule?1 s?1 units): cis-3-hexen-1-ol: (1.08 ± 0.22) × 10?10 for reaction with the OH radical; (2.72 ± 0.83) × 10?13 for reaction with the NO3 radical; and (6.4 ± 1.7) × 10?17 for reaction with O3; cis-3-hexenylacetate: (7.84 ± 1.64) × 10?11 for reaction with the OH radical; (2.46 ± 0.75) × 10?13 for reaction with the NO3 radical; and (5.4 ± 1.4) × 10?17 for reaction with O3; trans-2-hexenal: (4.41 ± 0.94) × 10?11 for reaction with the OH radical; (1.21 ± 0.44) × 10?14 for reaction with the NO3 radical; and (2.0 ± 1.0) × 10?18 for reaction with O3; and linalool: (1.59 ± 0.40) × 10?10 for reaction with the OH radical; (1.12 ± 0.40) × 10?11 for reaction with the NO3 radical; and (4.3 ± 1.6) × 10?16 for reaction with O3. Combining these rate constants with estimated ambient tropospheric concentrations of OH radicals, NO3 radicals, and O3 results in calculated tropospheric lifetimes of these oxygenated organic compounds of a few hours. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The rate constants for the gas‐phase reactions of three deuterated toluenes with hydroxyl radicals were measured using the relative rate technique over the temperature range 298–353 K at about 1 atm total pressure. The OH radicals were generated by photolysis of H2O2, and helium was used as the diluent gas. The disappearance of reactants was followed by online mass spectrometry, which resulted in high time resolution, allowing for a large amount of data to be collected and used in the determination of the Arrhenius parameters. The following Arrhenius expressions have been determined for these reactions (in units of cm3 molecule?1 s?1): k=(6.42?0.99+1.17)×10?13exp [(661±54)/T] for toluene‐d3, k=(2.11?0.69+1.03)×10?12exp [(287±128)/T]for toluene‐d5, and k=(1.40+0.44?0.33)×10?12exp [(404±88)/T]for toluene‐d8. The kinetic isotope effects (KIEs, kH/kD) of these reactions were 1.003 ± 0.042 for all three compounds at 298 K. The KIE for toluene‐d3 was temperature dependent; at 350 K, its KIE was 1.122+0.048?0.046. The KIE of toluene‐d5 and toluene‐d8 did not vary significantly with temperature. These KIE results suggest that methyl H‐atom abstraction is more important than aromatic OH addition at higher temperatures. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Using a relative rate technique, rate constants have been determined for the gas phase reactions of Cl atoms with a series of organics at 296 ± 2 K and atmospheric pressure of air. Using a rate constant of 1.97 × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 for the reaction of Cl atoms with n-butane, the following rate constants (in units of 10?11 cm3 molecule?1 s?1) were obtained: ethane, 6.38 ± 0.18; propane, 13.4 ± 0.5; isobutane, 13.7 ± 0.2; n-pentane, 25.2 ± 1.2; isopentane, 20.3 ± 0.8; neopentane, 11.0 ± 0.3; n-hexane, 30.3 ± 0.6; cyclohexane, 31.1 ± 1.4; 2,3-dimethylbutane, 20.7 ± 0.6; n-heptane, 34.1 ± 1.2; acetylene, 6.28 ± 0.18; ethene, 10.6 ± 0.3; propene, 24.4 ± 0.8; benzene, 1.5 ± 0.9; and toluene, 5.89 ± 0.36. These data are compared and discussed with the available literature values.  相似文献

The kinetics of oxidation of tartaric acid (TAR) by peroxomonosulfate (PMS) in the presence of Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions was studied in the pH range 4.05–5.20 and also in alkaline medium (pH ~12.7). The rate was calculated by measuring the [PMS] at various time intervals. The metal ions concentration range used in the kinetic studies was 2.50 × 10?5 to 1.00 × 10?4 M [Cu(II)], 2.50 × 10?4 to 2.00 × 10?3M [Ni(II)], 0.05 to 0.10 M [TAR], and µ = 0.15 M. The metal(II) tartarates, not TAR/tartarate, are oxidized by PMS. The oxidation of copper(II) tartarate at the acidic pH shows an appreciable induction period, usually 30–60 min, as in classical autocatalysis reaction. The induction period in nickel(II) tartarate is small. Analysis of the [PMS]–time profile shows that the reactions proceed through autocatalysis. In alkaline medium, the Cu(II) tartarate–PMS reaction involves autocatalysis whereas Ni(II) tartarate obeys simple first‐order kinetics with respect to [PMS]. The calculated rate constants for the initial oxidation (k1) and catalyzed oxidation (k2) at [TAR] = 0.05 M, pH 4.05, and 31°C are Cu(II) (1.00 × 10?4 M): k1 = 4.12 × 10?6 s?1, k2 = 7.76 × 10?1 M?1s?1 and Ni(II) (1.00 × 10?3 M): k1 = 5.80 × 10?5 s?1, k2 = 8.11 × 10?2 M?1 s?1. The results suggest that the initial reaction is the oxidative decarboxylation of the tartarate to an aldehyde. The aldehyde intermediate may react with the alpha hydroxyl group of the tartarate to give a hemi acetal, which may be responsible for the autocatalysis. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The rms radii of gyration 〈S21/2 and second virial coefficients Γ2 of five monodisperse polystyrenes (M × 10?5 = 1.6, 2.8, 4.2, 6.6) were measured in isorefractive toluene–poly(methyl methacrylate) (M?v = 4.0 × 104, 1.6 × 105, and 6.3 × 105) “solvents.” For a given PMMA, the concentration at which the θ condition (defined by Γ2 = 0) was reached was independent of PS molecular weight, but varied inversely with PMMA molecular weight (0.10, 0.056, and 0.023 g/mL, respectively). When this θ condition is reached by adding PMMA to toluene, the radii of gyration are decreased by only about 15%, much less than when it is reached by going to a poor, low-molecular-weight solvent. This reflects the exclusion of PMMA from the PS coils, the internal environment of which is essentially pure toluene.  相似文献
