The interaction of cobalt atoms with silicon (1 1 1) surface has been investigated by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and low-energy electron diffraction (LEED). Besides the Co silicide islands, we have successfully distinguished two inequivalent Co-induced reconstructions on Si(1 1 1) surface. Our high-resolution STM images provide some structural properties of the two different derived phases. Both of the two phases seem to form islands with single domain. The new findings will help us to understand the early stage of Co silicide formations.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of nickel ferrite nanoparticles in the form of powders, prepared by the sol-gel process and subjected to different annealing temperatures, were investigated using both static and dynamic measurements namely hysteresis, zero field cooled-field cooled magnetization (ZFC-FC) measurements and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) studies reveal particle sizes for the as-prepared particles which increases upto 52 nm with annealing. A bimodal distribution, upto an annealing temperature of was observed. ZFC-FC measurements for the as-prepared samples reveal twin peaks, indicative of the bimodal size distribution. ZFC-FC measurements performed for fields varying from 100 Oe to 3 kOe show a superparamagnetic phase with blocking temperatures between 320 and . Numerical simulations for the ZFC-FC studies indicate that the signature of the bimodal size distribution can be seen only at very low fields. The variation of coercivity with particle size, as determined from the hysteresis measurements, shows a transition from a single domain to a multi domain state for particle sizes larger than 35 nm. Mössbauer measurements performed at room temperature for the as-prepared sample shows a six finger pattern for the samples with higher particle size and a doublet pattern for the samples with smaller particle size, which is indicative of their superparamagnetic nature.  相似文献

Using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method, thickness dependent magnetic anisotropy of ultrathin FeCo alloy films in the range of 1 monolayer (ML) to 5 ML coverage on Pd(0 0 1) surface has been explored. We have found that the FeCo alloy films have close to half metallic state and well-known surface enhancement in thin film magnetism is observed in Fe atom, whereas the Co has rather stable magnetic moment. However, the largest magnetic moment in Fe and Co is found at 1 ML thickness. Interestingly, it has been observed that the interface magnetic moments of Fe and Co are almost the same as those of surface elements. The similar trend exists in orbital magnetic moment. This indicates that the strong hybridization between interface FeCo alloy and Pd gives rise to the large magnetic moment. Theoretically calculated magnetic anisotropy shows that the 1 ML FeCo alloy has in-plane magnetization, but the spin reorientation transition (SRT) from in-plane to perpendicular magnetization is observed above 2 ML thickness with huge magnetic anisotropy energy. The maximum magnetic anisotropy energy for perpendicular magnetization is as large as 0.3 meV/atom at 3 ML film thickness with saturation magnetization of . Besides, the calculated X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) has been presented.  相似文献

The growth mode, magnetic and magneto-optical properties of epitaxial Au/Co/Au(1 1 1) ultrathin trilayers grown by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) under ultra-high vacuum are presented. Sapphire wafers buffered with a single-crystalline Mo(1 1 0) buffer layer were used as substrates. Owing to PLD-induced interfacial intermixing at the lower Co/Au(1 1 1) interface, a close-to layer-by-layer growth mode is promoted. Surprisingly, despite this intermixing, ferromagnetic behavior is found at room temperature for coverings starting at 1 atomic layer (AL). The films display perpendicular magnetization with anisotropy constants reduced by 50% compared to TD-grown or electrodeposited films, and with a coercivity more than one order of magnitude lower . The magneto-optical (MO) response in the low Co thickness range is dominated by Au/Co interface contributions. For thicknesses starting at 3 AL Co, the MO response has a linear dependence with the Co thickness, indicative of a continuous-film-like MO behavior.  相似文献

Thermal and pressure effects have been investigated on the [Fe(sal2-trien)][Ni(dmit)2] spin crossover complex by means of Mössbauer spectroscopic, calorimetric, X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complex displays a complete thermal spin transition between the and spin states of FeIII near 245 K with a hysteresis loop of ca. 30 K. This transition is characterised by a change of the enthalpy, ΔHHL=7 kJ/mol, entropy, ΔSHL=29 J/Kmol, and the unit cell volume, ΔVHL=15.4 Å3. Under hydrostatic pressures up to 5.7 kbar the thermal transition shifts to higher temperatures by ca. 16 K/kbar. Interestingly, at a low applied pressure of 500 bar the hysteresis loop becomes wider (ca. 61 K) and the transition is blocked at ∼50% upon cooling, indicating a possible (irreversible) structural phase transition under pressure.  相似文献

Infrared spectrum of the cobalt carbonyl radical CoCO produced by the 193 nm excimer laser photolysis of cobalt tricarbonyl nitrosyl Co(CO)3NO was observed by time-resolved diode laser spectroscopy. More than 600 lines were identified as belonging to the ν1 (C-O stretch) fundamental band, consisting of the Ω=5/2 and 3/2 subbands, and the associated hot bands , , , and . The 2Δi electronic ground state of CoCO was experimentally confirmed. The ν1 band origins are 1974.172582(93) cm−1 and 1973.53178(14) cm−1 for the Ω=5/2 and 3/2 subbands, respectively. The rotational constant in the ground state was determined as B0=4427.146(50) MHz. The centrifugal distortion constant D0=1.1243(68) kHz was obtained for the Ω=5/2 substate of the ground state. The equilibrium rotational constant Be=4435.44(14) MHz was derived, together with the vibration-rotation interaction constants.  相似文献

The cubic CsCl type compound YbPd is known to be a valence fluctuating compound and to undergo four phase transitions at 0.5, 1.9, 105 and 125 K. In the present study, we focus on pressure effect on the transitions. The transitions at and , which are accompanied by thermal hysteresis, are of first order. With increasing pressure, the transitions shift toward lower temperature direction. The transition at T1 satisfies the Clausius-Clapeyron's relation, which also supports the first-order transition. T1 disappears at around 1.5 GPa. Above 1.5 GPa, some new ground state would be realized. We can observe an anomaly at 2.8 K which would be associated with magnetic ordering at 1.9 K. The anomaly becomes more distinct with pressure. Since applying pressure stabilizes magnetic Yb3+, the magnetic ordering becomes more conspicuous.  相似文献

Optical absorption and EPR spectra of Mn(II) and Co(II) doped zinc phosphate glasses have been investigated. Crystal filed parameters and g values are determined. For Mn(II) doped glass the values are Dq=850, B=850, and g values are around 2 at room temperature (RT). For Co(II) doped glass, Dq=890, B=700, and g=4.45 and 2.06 at liquid nitrogen temperature. The optical and EPR data has been correlated.  相似文献

We report a magnetization study of stoichiometric ErN nanocrystalline films grown on Si and protected by a GaN passivating layer. According to the temperature dependence of the resistivity the films are heavily doped semiconductors. Above 100 K the magnetization data fit well to a Curie-Weiss behavior with a moment expected within the free-ion Er3+ multiplet. Below 50 K the Curie-Weiss plot steepens to an effective moment corresponding to that in the crystal-field determined quartet ground state, and develops a clear paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperature of about 4.5 K. Zero-field- and field-cooled magnetization curves and the AC susceptibility firmly establish a ferromagnetic ground state within that multiplet below a Curie temperature of . Due to the (1 1 1) texture of the film the comparison between the magnetization behavior, when the field is applied parallel and perpendicular to the film plane, gives new information about the magnetic structure. An arrangement of the moments according to the model derived from neutron diffraction for bulk HoN is strongly suggested.  相似文献

We investigated the magnetic and electronic properties of an antiferromagnet and pressure-induced superconductor CePd5Al2 by measuring the magnetization and de Haas-van Alphen effect, together with the electrical resistivity under pressure and magnetic field. Magnetic measurements including the high field magnetization at 1.3 K reveal several magnetic transitions and quite complex magnetic phase diagram of this compound. Electrical resistivity measurements have been performed using diamond anvil cell up to 12 GPa for the magnetic fields and [1 0 0]. The upper critical field in superconductivity is anisotropic between and [1 0 0] in the tetragonal structure, reflecting the quasi-two dimensional electronic state.  相似文献

We report the low temperature magnetization and specific heat of single-crystal Pr5Si3 at ambient pressure under magnetic field up to 9 T and temperatures down to 3 K. Pr5Si3 orders ferromagnetically below . The ferromagnetic state is strongly anisotropic where the basal plane in the body-centered tetragonal crystal structure is the easy-magnetic plane. Under hydrostatic pressures up to 18 kbar the magnetization for temperatures down to 3 K and magnetic fields up to 9 T shows only a weak variation of the ordered moment and TC. Magnetization loops at low magnetic fields show changes of the hysteresis loops, notably the emergence of shoulder at the coercive field, that are characteristic of a ferrimagnetic modulation that is stabilized under pressure.  相似文献

Diluted magnetic nonpolar GaN:Cu films have been fabricated by implanting Cu ions into unintentionally doped nonpolar a-plane() GaN films and a subsequent thermal annealing process. The structural, morphological and magnetic characteristics of the samples have been investigated by means of high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). The sample shows a clear ferromagnetism behavior at room temperature. It is significantly shown that with a Cu concentration as low as 0.75% the sample exhibits a saturation magnetization about 0.65 μB/Cu atom. Moreover, the possible origin of the ferromagnetism for the sample was also discussed briefly.  相似文献
