Multidimensional rearrangement and Lorentz spaces

We define a multidimensional rearrangement, which is related to classical inequalities for functions that are monotone in each variable. We prove the main measure theoretical results of the new theory and characterize the functional properties of the associated weighted Lorentz spaces. Rearrangement of Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions in Lorentz spaces

For the classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal function , a well known and important estimate due to Herz and Stein gives the equivalence . In the present note, we study the validity of analogous estimates for maximal operators of the form

Some Generalized Gronwall-like Retarded Inequalities in two independent variables on Time Scales

In this paper, we establish some new Gronwall-like inequalities in two independent variables which can be used as tools in the theory of integral equations with delay on time scales.     

Regularization of quasi-variational inequalities

An ill-posed quasi-variational inequality with contaminated data can be stabilized by employing the elliptic regularization. Under suitable conditions, a sequence of bounded regularized solutions converges strongly to a solution of the original quasi-variational inequality. Moreover, the conditions that ensure the boundedness of regularized solutions, become sufficient solvability conditions. It turns out that the regularization theory is quite strong for quasi-variational inequalities with set-valued monotone maps but restrictive for generalized pseudo-monotone maps. The results are quite general and are applicable to ill-posed variational inequalities, hemi-variational inequalities, inverse problems, and split feasibility problem, among others.     

On the stability of the polygonal isoperimetric inequality

We obtain a sharp lower bound on the isoperimetric deficit of a general polygon in terms of the variance of its side lengths, the variance of its radii, and its deviation from being convex. Our technique involves a functional minimization problem on a suitably constructed compact manifold and is based on the spectral theory for circulant matrices.     

Exchange price equilibria and variational inequalities

Weighted inequalities for the Bochner-Riesz means related to the Fourier-Bessel expansions

We prove weighted inequalities for the Bochner-Riesz means for Fourier-Bessel series with more general weights w(x) than previously considered power weights. These estimates are given by using the local Ap theory and Hardy's inequalities with weights. Moreover, we also obtain weighted weak type (1,1) inequalities. The case when w(x)=xa is sketched and follows as a corollary of the main result.     

Generating all minimal integral solutions to AND-OR systems of monotone inequalities: Conjunctions are simpler than disjunctions

We consider monotone ∨,∧-formulae φ of m atoms, each of which is a monotone inequality of the form f_i(x)?t_i over the integers, where for i=1,…,m, f_i:Zⁿ?R is a given monotone function and t_i is a given threshold. We show that if the ∨-degree of φ is bounded by a constant, then for linear, transversal and polymatroid monotone inequalities all minimal integer vectors satisfying φ can be generated in incremental quasi-polynomial time. In contrast, the enumeration problem for the disjunction of m inequalities is NP-hard when m is part of the input. We also discuss some applications of the above results in disjunctive programming, data mining, matroid and reliability theory.     

Variational inequalities with operator solutions

The aim of the present paper is to give a new kind of point of view in the theory of variational inequalities. Our approach makes possible the study of both scalar and vector variational inequalities under a great variety of assumptions. One can include here the variational inequalities defined on reflexive or nonreflexive Banach spaces, as well as the vector variational inequalities defined on topological vector spaces.     

An Abstract Problem in Variational Analysis

The purpose of this paper is to present a unifying approach to study various models of equilibrium theory and variational inclusions. A simple condition is established for the existence of solutions of variational relations and is applied to a number of variational problems.

Strict feasibility of pseudomonotone set-valued variational inequalities

In this article, we use degree theory developed in Kien et al. [B.T. Kien, M.-M. Wong, N.C. Wong, and J.C. Yao, Degree theory for generalized variational inequalities and applications, Eur. J. Oper. Res. 193 (2009), pp. 12–22.] to prove a result on the existence of solutions to set-valued variational inequality under a weak coercivity condition, provided that the set-valued mapping is upper semicontinuous with nonempty compact convex values. If the set-valued mapping is pseudomonotone in the sense of Karamardian and upper semicontinuous with nonempty compact convex values, it is shown that the set-valued variational inequality is strictly feasible if and only if its solution set is nonempty and bounded.

Augmented Lagrangian Theory,Duality and Decomposition Methods for Variational Inequality Problems

In this paper, we develop the augmented Lagrangian theory and duality theory for variational inequality problems. We propose also decomposition methods based on the augmented Lagrangian for solving complex variational inequality problems with coupling constraints.     

Some nonlinear Brascamp-Lieb inequalities and applications to harmonic analysis

We use the method of induction-on-scales to prove certain diffeomorphism-invariant nonlinear Brascamp-Lieb inequalities. We provide applications to multilinear convolution inequalities and the restriction theory for the Fourier transform, extending to higher dimensions recent work of Bejenaru-Herr-Tataru and Bennett-Carbery-Wright.     

On the solvability of noncoercive linear variational inequalities in separable Hilbert spaces

In this paper, we build an existence theory for linear variational inequalities associated with an operator which generalizes in Hilbert space the class of copositive plus matrices. We show how this theory can be used to study some important engineering problems governed by noncoercive variational inequalities.Thanks are due to Professor V. H. Obstacles Problems with Measure Data and Linear Operators

We give a definition for Obstacle Problems with measure data and general obstacles. For such problems we prove existence and uniqueness of solutions and consistency with the classical theory of Variational Inequalities. Continuous dependence with respect to data is discussed.
