Let H be a subgroup of a group G. We say that H satisfies the power condition with respect to G, or H is a power subgroup of G, if there exists a non-negative integer m such that H = G m  = 〈 g m |g ? G 〉. In this note, the following theorem is proved: Let G be a group and k the number of nonpower subgroups of G. Then (1) k = 0 if and only if G is a cyclic group (theorem of F. Szász); (2) 0 < k < ∞ if and only if G is a finite noncyclic group; (3) k = ∞ if and only if G is a infinte noncyclic group. Thus we get a new criterion for the finite noncyclic groups.  相似文献

Let G be a hypercentral group. Our main result here is that if G/G’ is divisible by finite then G itself is divisible by finite. This extends a recent result of Heng, Duan and Chen [2], who prove in a slightly weaker form the special case where G is also a p-group. If G is torsion-free, then G is actually divisible.   相似文献

Suppose that G is a finite group and H is a subgroup of G. H is said to be S-quasinormal in G if it permutes with every Sylow subgroup of G; H is said to be S-quasinormally embedded in G if for each prime p dividing |H|, a Sylow p-subgroup of H is also a Sylow p-subgroup of some S-quasinormal subgroup of G. We investigate the influence of S-quasinormally embedded subgroups on the structure of finite groups. Some recent results are generalized.  相似文献

The spectrum of a finite group is the set of its element orders. A finite group G is said to be recognizable by spectrum, if every finite group with the same spectrum as G is isomorphic to G. The purpose of the paper is to prove that for every natural m the finite simple Chevalley group F 4(2 m ) is recognizable by spectrum.  相似文献

We associate a graph Γ G to a nonlocally cyclic group G (called the noncyclic graph of G) as follows: take G\ Cyc(G) as vertex set, where Cyc(G) = {x ? G| 〈x, y〉 is cyclic for all y ? G}, and join two vertices if they do not generate a cyclic subgroup. We study the properties of this graph and we establish some graph theoretical properties (such as regularity) of this graph in terms of the group ones. We prove that the clique number of Γ G is finite if and only if Γ G has no infinite clique. We prove that if G is a finite nilpotent group and H is a group with Γ G  ? Γ H and |Cyc(G)| = |Cyc(H)| = 1, then H is a finite nilpotent group. We give some examples of groups G whose noncyclic graphs are “unique”, i.e., if Γ G  ? Γ H for some group H, then G ? H. In view of these examples, we conjecture that every finite nonabelian simple group has a unique noncyclic graph. Also we give some examples of finite noncyclic groups G with the property that if Γ G  ? Γ H for some group H, then |G| = |H|. These suggest the question whether the latter property holds for all finite noncyclic groups.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. We define the prime graph Γ(G) as follows. The vertices of Γ(G) are the primes dividing the order of G and two distinct vertices p, q are joined by an edge if there is an element in G of order pq. Recently M. Hagie [5] determined finite groups G satisfying Γ(G) = Γ(S), where S is a sporadic simple group. Let p > 3 be a prime number. In this paper we determine finite groups G such that Γ(G) = Γ(PSL(2, p)). As a consequence of our results we prove that if p > 11 is a prime number and p ≢ 1 (mod 12), then PSL(2, p) is uniquely determined by its prime graph and so these groups are characterizable by their prime graph. A group is called smooth if it has a finite maximal chain of subgroups in which any two intervals of the same length are isomorphic (as lattices). We show that every finite smooth group G is a semidirect product of a p-group by a cyclic group; in particular, G is soluble. We determine the exact structure of G if G is not a p-group.  相似文献

Abstract

First, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for torsion-free finite rank subgroups of arbitrary abelian groups to be purifiable. An abelian group G is said to be a strongly ADE decomposable group if there exists a purifiable T(G)-high subgroup of G. We use a previous result to characterize ADE decomposable groups of finite torsion-free rank. Finally, in an extreme case of strongly ADE decomposable groups, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for abelian groups of finite torsion-free rank to be splitting.  相似文献

We associate a graph 𝒩 G with a group G (called the non-nilpotent graph of G) as follows: take G as the vertex set and two vertices are adjacent if they generate a non-nilpotent subgroup. In this article, we study the graph theoretical properties of 𝒩 G and its induced subgraph on G \ nil(G), where nil(G) = {x ∈ G | ? x, y ? is nilpotent for all y ∈ G}. For any finite group G, we prove that 𝒩 G has either |Z*(G)| or |Z*(G)| +1 connected components, where Z*(G) is the hypercenter of G. We give a new characterization for finite nilpotent groups in terms of the non-nilpotent graph. In fact, we prove that a finite group G is nilpotent if and only if the set of vertex degrees of 𝒩 G has at most two elements.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that the p-adic K-theory of a connected p-compact is the ring of invariants of the Weyl group action on the K-theory of a maximal torus. We apply this result to show that a connected finite loop space admits a maximal torus if and only if its complex K-theory is -isomorphic to the K-theory of some BG, where G is a compact connected Lie group. A subgroup H of a finite group G is said to be c-supplemented in G if there exists a subgroup K of G such that G = HK and HK is contained in H G , where H G is the largest normal subgroup of G contained in H. In this article, we prove that G is solvable if every subgroup of prime odd order of G is c-supplemented in G. Moreover, we prove that G is solvable if and only if every Sylow subgroup of odd order of G is c-supplemented in G. These results improve and extend the classical results of Hall's articles of (1937) and the recent results of Ballester-Bolinches and Guo's article of (1999), Ballester-Bolinches et al.'s article of (2000), and Asaad and Ramadan's article of (2008).  相似文献

The purpose of this note is to describe some algebraic conditions on a Banach algebra which force it to be finite dimensional. One of the main results in Theorem 2 which states that for a locally compact groupG, G is compact if there exists a measure μ in Soc(L 1(G)) such that μ(G) ≠ 0. We also prove thatG is finite if Soc(M(G)) is closed and every nonzero left ideal inM(G) contains a minimal left ideal.  相似文献

Let x be a p-element of a finite group G. We say that x is unfused in G if, for some Sylow p-subgroup S of G containing x, all G-conjugates of x in S are S-conjugates. It is shown (using the classification of finite simple groups) that a finite group that contains an unfused involution has a chief factor of order 2.

In this paper, a finite group G with IAut(G) : P(G)I ~- p or pq is determined, where P(G) is the power automorphism group of G, and p, q are distinct primes. Especially, we prove that a finite group G satisfies |Aut(G) : P(G)|= pq if and only if Aut(G)/P(G) ≌S3. Also, some other classes of finite groups are investigated and classified, which are necessary for the proof of our main results.  相似文献

Abstract

Let G be a finite group and ω(G) the set of all orders of elements in G. Denote by h(ω(G)) the number of isomorphism classes of finite groups H satisfying ω(H) = ω(G), and put h(G) = h(ω(G)). A group G is called k-recognizable if h(G) = k < ∞ , otherwise G is called non-recognizable. In the present article we will show that the simple groups PSL(3, q), where q ≡ ±2(mod 5) and (6, (q ? 1)/2) = 2, are 2-recognizable. Therefore if q is a prime power and q ≡ 17, 33, 53 or 57 (mod 60), then the groups PSL(3, q) are 2-recognizable. Hence proving the existing of an infinite families of 2-recognizable simple groups.  相似文献

A finite group G is called rational if all its irreducible complex characters are rational valued. In this paper, we show that if G is a direct product of finitely many rational Frobenius groups then every rationally represented character of G is a generalized permutation character. Also we show that the same assertion holds when G is a solvable rational group with a Sylow 2-subgroup isomorphic to the dihedral group of order 8 and an abelian normal Sylow 3-subgroup.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and H a subgroup of G. We say that H is an ?-subgroup in G if NG(H) ∩ Hg ≤ H for all g ∈ G; H is called weakly ?-subgroup in G if G has a normal subgroup K such that G = HK and HK is an ?-subgroup in G. We say that H is weakly ? -embedded in G if G has a normal subgroup K such that HG = HK and HK is an ?-subgroup in G. In this paper, we investigate the structure of the finite group G under the assumption that some subgroups of prime power order are weakly ?-embedded in G.
