The effect of organic colloids, such as humic and fulvic acids, on the ASV signals of Cd, Pb and Cu in acetate-buffer media has been investigated. Owing to their ability to adsorb metal ions, or form complexes (some sparingly soluble), the presence of the organic acids caused the magnitude of the signal peaks to decrease, the effect increasing with increase in organic acid: metal-ion ratio, and pH (from 5 to 8). Analysis before and after nitration through a 0.45-mum membrane indicated that most of the Cd retained was labile; in the Pb and Cu system less than half of the sorbed metal ion was labile, though a further fraction was displaced in the presence of Chelex 100 resin. The magnitude of the interference effect varied with the molarity of the medium and the presence of diverse anions (e.g. chloride, bromide) in the system. Cu displayed the most anomalous behaviour, with the stripping peak tending to broaden and split, particularly in the presence of humic acids. This behaviour was enhanced when the contact time with the preformed Hg film before the deposition/stripping cycle was increased above 5-10 min. This effect has been attributed to reduction (and subsequent oxidation) of Cu-humate species adsorbed on the mercury film.  相似文献

The present work investigates the influence of acid activation of montmorillonite on adsorption of Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Pb(II) from aqueous medium and comparison of the adsorption capacities with those on parent montmorillonite. The clay-metal interactions were studied under different conditions of pH, concentration of metal ions, amount of clay, interaction time, and temperature. The interactions were dependent on pH and the uptake was controlled by the amount of clay and the initial concentration of the metal ions. The adsorption capacity of acid-activated montmorillonite increases for all the metal ions. The interactions were adsorptive in nature and relatively fast and the rate processes more akin to the second-order kinetics. The adsorption data fitted both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, indicating that strong forces were responsible for the interactions at energetically nonuniform sites. The Langmuir monolayer capacity of the acid-activated montmorillonite is more than that of the parent montmorillonite (Cd(II): 32.7 and 33.2 mg/g; Co(II): 28.6 and 29.7 mg/g; Cu(II): 31.8 and 32.3 mg/g; Pb(II): 33.0 and 34.0 mg/g; and Ni(II): 28.4 and 29.5 mg/g for montmorillonite and acid-activated montmorillonite, respectively). The thermodynamics of the rate processes showed the adsorption of Co(II), Pb(II), and Ni(II) to be exothermic, accompanied by decreases in entropy and Gibbs free energy, while the adsorption of Cd(II) and Cu(II) was endothermic, with an increase in entropy and an appreciable decrease in Gibbs free energy. The results have established the potential use for montmorillonite and its acid-activated form as adsorbents for Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Pb(II) ions from aqueous media.  相似文献

A montmorillonite from Wyoming-USA was used to prepare an organo-clay complex, named 2-thiazoline-2-thiol-hexadecyltrimethylammonium-clay (TZT-HDTA-clay), for the purpose of the selective adsorption of the heavy metals ions and possible use as a chemically modified carbon paste electrode (CMCPE). Adsorption isotherms of Hg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ from aqueous solutions as a function of the pH were studied at 298 K. Conditions for quantitative retention and elution were established for each metal by batch and column methods. The organo-clay complex was very selective to Hg(II) in aqueous solution in which other metals and ions were also present. The accumulation voltammetry of Hg(II) was studied at a carbon paste electrode chemically modified with this material. The mercury response was evaluated with respect to the pH, electrode composition, preconcentration time, mercury concentration, "cleaning" solution, possible interferences and other variables. A carbon paste electrode modified by TZT-HDTA-clay showed two peaks: one cathodic peak at about 0.0 V and an anodic peak at 0.25 V, scanning the potential from -0.2 to 0.8 V (0.05 M KNO3 vs. Ag/AgCl). The anodic peak at 0.25 V presents excellent selectivity for Hg(II) ions in the presence of foreign ions. The detection limit was estimated as 0.1 microg L(-1). The precision of determination was satisfactory for the respective concentration level.  相似文献

The dithizone-anchored poly (EGDMA-HEMA) microbeads were prepared for the removal of heavy metal ions (i.e. cadmium, mercury, chromium and lead) from aqueous media containing different amounts of these ions (25-500 ppm) and at different pH values (2.0-8.0). The maximum adsorptions of heavy metal ions onto the dithizone-anchored microbeads from their solutions was 18.3, Cd(II); 43.1, Hg(II); 62.2, Cr(III) and 155.2 mg g(-1) for Pb(II). Competition between heavy metal ions (in the case of adsorption from mixture) yielded adsorption capacities of 9.7, Cd(II); 28.7, Hg(II); 17.6, Cr(III) and 38.3 mg g(-1) for Pb(II). The same affinity order was observed under non-competitive and competitive adsorption, i.e. Cr(III)>Pb(II)>Hg(II)>Cd(II). The adsorption of heavy metal ions increased with increasing pH and reached a plateaue value at around pH 5.0. Heavy metal ion adsorption from artificial wastewater was also studied. The adsorption capacities are 4.3, Cd(II); 13.2, Hg(II); 7.2, Cr(III) and 16.4 mg g(-1) for Pb(II). Desorption of heavy metal ions was achieved using 0.1 M HNO(3). The dithizone-anchored microbeads are suitable for repeated use (for more than five cycles) without noticeable loss of capacity.  相似文献

An investigation on the complex formation equilibria between divalent metal ions Me (with Me=Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Cd, and Pb) and phytic acid (H(12)L) is presented. Experiments were performed through a potentiometric methodology by measuring, at 25 degrees C, the proton and, in some cases (Cu(2+), Cd(2+), and Pb(2+)), also the metal ion activity at equilibrium in solutions containing, besides the metal and the ligand, 3 M NaClO(4) as the ionic medium. Unhydrolyzed solutions of the metal ion at millimolar concentration levels were titrated with solutions of about 10 mM sodium phytate, until the formation of a solid phase took place (always at pH approximately 2.5, except in the case of Cu(2+), which formed soluble complexes up to pH approximately 3.3). Coulometry was employed to produce very dilute solutions of either Cu(2+), Cd(2+), or Pb(2+) of accurately known composition. The emf data were explained by assuming, in the acidity interval explored, the formation of the complexes of general stoichiometry MeH(5)L(5-) and Me(2)H(3)L(5-). Coordination compounds in the solid state were also synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermal analysis, and ICP spectroscopy. The solids had a general stoichiometry Me(6)H (t)LCl (t). x H(2)O, with the following t and x values for each metal investigated: Me ( t; x) = Mn (4; 2); Co (4; 2); Ni (4; 2); Cu (2; 2.5); Zn (2; 1); Sn (6; 6).  相似文献

Experiments have been carried out to assess the potential of differential pulse voltammetry and potential stripping analysis for determining Pb, Cu and Cd directly in dissolved honey samples using a flow-through cell. With the hanging mercury drop electrode Pb alone can be determined only if the electrode is first modified in-situ with Triton X 100 to increase the separation between the Pb peak and a broad, interfering adsorption peak which overlaps the Cu peak. If the (more sensitive) thin film mercury electrode is used the interference encountered is less so also Cu and Cd can be determined. With potentiometric stripping analysis Cu and Pb can be determined using normal procedures. The determination of Cd, however, can only be carried out if the concentration of the oxidizing agent [Hg(II)] in solution is decreased. A good agreement has been obtained between the values found and those obtained after high pressure digestion of the samples.  相似文献

1. In citrate or tartrate solutions mercury formed three different compounds with p-dimethyl-amino-benzylidene-rhodanine at pH ~5,~7 and ~9.The composition of the compounds is discussed. 2. Analytical methods are presented for the determination of 0.1 mg mercury in 20 ml solution which contained 99.5–99.9% foreign metals. In most cases the error lay between zero and 1%. The foreign metals were :Ca, Ba, Mg, Zn, Mn, Ni, Co, Al, Cr(III), Fe(III), Cd, Cu, Pb, U(VI), Tl(I), Th, Ce(III), Sb(III) and Bi(III). Methods for the determination of 0.1 mg mercury in gold (III), Pt(VI), Pd(II) and silver are also presented.  相似文献

The differential pulse single-sweep voltammetric technique with hanging mercury drop electrode was used for the determination of Cr(III). The determination was carried out in 0.2 mol/l sodium acetate as supporting electrolyte. The reduction peak of Cr(III) was recorded at –1.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The relative standard deviation was 3% for Cr concentrations in the range of 0.4 mol/l. The determination of impurities (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn) in fresh and overworked galvanic baths using anodic stripping voltammetry in the differential pulse mode is also described.  相似文献

Sorption of Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), and Zn(II) from aqueous solutions on two-component organosilicas was studied as influenced by sorbent composition, contact time, ratio of solid and liquid phases, solution pH, nature and concentration of heavy metal ions, and content of modifying agent. The degrees of sorption of these metal ions from aqueous solutions using organosilicas modified with aluminum(III) added into the siloxane matrix or with copper(II) grafted to the sorbent surface layer were compared.  相似文献

A new type of carbon paste electrode modified with clay mineral and covered with a mercury film is presented in this work. Electrodeposition of the mercury film was performed on the carbon paste electrode modified with montmorillonite. The mercury film was deposited by both electrodeposition in situ and a preliminary electrodeposition. The pre-deposited film of mercury showed to be suitable for anodic stripping voltammetry. An open-circuit sorption of Cd, Pb, and Cu with subsequent anodic stripping voltammetry exhibited higher current responses of metals. Besides the enhanced sensitivity superior separation of the current responses during a simultaneous stripping of metals is expected to be achieved by means of the newly prepared electrode. Illite samples from Fithian, IL were purified and saturated with Na(+) ions. The acid-base surface chemistry of the Na-saturated illite was studied by potentiometric titration experiments with 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 M NaNO(3) solutions as the background electrolyte. Results showed that the titration curves obtained at different ionic strengths did not intersect in the studied pH range. The adsorption of Cd(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) onto illite was investigated as a function of pH and ionic strength by batch adsorption experiments. Two distinct mechanisms of metal adsorption were found from the experimental results: nonspecific ion-exchange reactions at lower pH values on the basal surfaces and 'frayed edges' and specific adsorption at higher pH values on the mineral edges. Ionic strength had a greater effect on the ion-exchange reactions. The binding constants for the five heavy metals onto illite were determined using the least-square fitting computer program FITEQL. Linear free energy relationships were found between the surface binding constants and the first hydrolysis constants of the metals.  相似文献

A fluorescent film sensor was prepared by chemical assembly of pyrene on a glass plate surface via a long flexible spacer. It was found that the film is highly selective for some organic Cu2+ salts, such as copper acetate and copper propionate. The presence of inorganic Cu2+ salts and other metal(II) acetates, including Ni2+, Co2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, etc., had little effect upon the sensing behavior of the film for copper acetate or copper propionate. The observation was explained by employing a proposed "two-dimensional solution" model. The quenching by copper acetate of the emission of the film is static in nature due to complexation of the spacers to the metal ions. Furthermore, the response of the film sensor to copper acetate is fully reversible. To the best of our knowledge, this film sensor may be the first one that can differentiate greasy copper salts from inorganic copper salts.  相似文献

A comparative study is described of the anodic stripping voltammetry of sea water at its natural pH and at acetate-buffered pH, with a mercury film electrode. The reproducibility of the oxidation current peaks for copper and lead is improved and the electrode memory effect decreases, when the sample is acetate-buffered (pH 5.8). Determinations of zinc at the natural pH of sea water are inaccurate, because of the formation of Zn—Cu and Zn—Ni intermetallic compounds in the mercury film. The formation of such compounds can be prevented by the addition of gallium ions to acetate-buffered samples. A procedure for the determination of Cu, Pb, Cd and Zn in sea water is described.  相似文献

Different frequently used methods to determine the influence of acid conditions on heavy metal release from soils, sediments and waste materials, namely pHstat leaching tests and acid extractions with acetic acid (HOAc) (0.11 M and 0.43 M) and sodium acetate (NaOAc) (1 M) were compared for 30 samples (soils, sediments and waste materials) with different physico-chemical properties and a different degree of contamination. However, no distinct relationship was found between physico-chemical sample characteristics, total element concentrations and acid-extractable metal concentrations in the presented dataset.

pH played an important role in explaining the release of metals from the contaminated soils, sediments and waste materials. The pH-shift after extraction with the different acetic acid solutions (0.11 M and 0.43 M) was both explained by the initial pH of the sample and its acid neutralizing capacity. The pH of the NaOAc extract was well buffered and the release of elements from solid matrices by NaOAc was both the result of the complexation with acetate and pH (pH 5). Generally, a linear correlation was found between the amount of Zn and Cd extracted by 0.11 M HOAc, 0.43 M HOAc and 1 M NaOAc. The amounts of Zn and Cd extracted with HOAc (0.11 M and 0.43 M) were comparable with amounts of respectively Zn and Cd released during pHstat leaching at pH 4. However, for Cu, Pb and As, it was often not possible to relate the results of a pHstat leaching test to the results of single extractions with acetic acid solutions.  相似文献

Competitive adsorption behavior of heavy metals on kaolinite   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
Polluted and contaminated soils can often contain more than one heavy metal species. It is possible that the behavior of a particular metal species in a soil system will be affected by the presence of other metals. In this study we have investigated the adsorption of Cd(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) onto kaolinite in single- and multi-element systems as a function of pH and concentration, in a background solution of 0.01 M NaNO3. In adsorption edge experiments, the pH was varied from 3.5 to 10.0 with total metal concentration 133.3 microM in the single-element system and 33.3 microM each of Cd(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) in the multi-element system. The value of pH50 (the pH at which 50% adsorption occurs) was found to follow the sequence Cu相似文献

Chrome Azurol S (CS) was mobilized on an strongly basic anion-exchange resin (Dowex 2 x 4, in Cl(-) form) by batch equilibration. The modified resin was stable in acetate buffer solution and in 0.1 M HCl and H(2)SO(4), but it was readily degraded with 2-6 M HCl and HNO(3). Retention of Ba(II), Sr(II), Ca(II), Mg(II), Al(III), Cr(III), Zn(II), Fe(III), Ti(IV), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) was studied using the batch equilibration method. The uptake and recovery yields were determined by using inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (for Mg, Al, Cr, Ti, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cd and Pb) and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (for Ba, Sr, Ca and Co). The optimum pH value was established for performing a selective separation of Al(III) from the other metal ions. The sorption capacities of the CS-loaded resing for Al(III), Cr(III), Mg(II) (at pH 6), Fe(III) (at pH 5) and Ti(IV) (at pH 4) were 14, 2.9, 0.3, 3 and 3.9 mumoles g(-1) respectively. On this basis a method for separating Al(III) from other cations was established.  相似文献

Determination of Cu, Pb, Cd and Zn was performed in sediment extracts obtained according to the three steps sequential extraction procedure proposed by the European Community Standards, Measurements and Testing Program. The metal content was determined by anodic stripping voltammetry with a thin mercury film electrode controlled by a sequential injection (SIA) system. The proposed method improved the reproducibility of conventional anodic stripping voltammetry, as well as the sample throughput, allowing analysis of 30 to 45 samples per hour. The influence of flow rate and sample volume was studied to achieve an adequate sensitivity for the leachate studied. No interferences due to adsorption of organic matter, colloids, or complexes with slow rate of dissociation were observed. The intermetallic formation of Cu-Zn was avoided by forming the mercury film in presence of Ga(III) ions in the SIA system, resulting in low consumption of reagent in comparison to flow injection or continuous flow systems. Results were in good agreement with those obtained by Induced Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES).  相似文献

Abstract

Heavy metal balances of a reed bed system (soil pH > 7, carbonate content about 30%) continuously flooded with sewage during 5 years indicate that only Pb, Zn, Cd and Cu were partly stored in the soil. Strong reductive conditions, high sewage percolation and metal complexation with soluble organic compounds caused a considerable leaching of Fe, Mn, Ni and Cr from the soil and formation of amorphous iron oxides. The results indicate that continously flooded reed bed systems with high percolation rates are not suitable for the elimination of heavy metals. Conversely, it should be possible to purify metal contaminated soils through percolation of sewage with low metal content.  相似文献
