We describe a technique for a posteriori error estimates suitable to the optimal control problem governed by the evolution equations solved by the method of lines. It is applied to the control problem governed by the parabolic equation, convection-diffusion equation and hyperbolic equation. The error is measured with the aid of the L2-norm in the space-time cylinder combined with a special time weighted energy norm.  相似文献

With weighted orthogonal Jacobi polynomials, we study spectral approximations for singular perturbation problems on an interval. The singular parameters of the model are included in the basis functions, and then its stiff matrix is diagonal. Considering the estimations for weighted orthogonal coefficients, a special technique is proposed to investigate the a posteriori error estimates. In view of the difficulty of a posteriori error estimates for spectral approximations, we employ a truncation projection to study lower bounds for the models. Specially, we present the lower bounds of a posteriori error estimates with two different weighted norms in details.  相似文献

For the solution of the wave equation a space-time energetic boundary integral formulation is used. The resulting single layer boundary integral equation is discretised by a conforming ansatz space on the lateral boundary. To derive an adaptive scheme an a posteriori error estimator based on the representation formula is used. Finally, numerical examples for a one-dimensional spatial domain are presented. In this paper we investigate a space-time finite element approximation of parabolic optimal control problems. The first order optimality conditions are transformed into an elliptic equation of fourth order in space and second order in time involving only the state or the adjoint state in the space-time domain. We derive a priori and a posteriori error estimates for the time discretization of the state and the adjoint state. (© 2014 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Two explicit error representation formulas are derived for degenerate parabolic PDEs, which are based on evaluating a parabolic residual in negative norms. The resulting upper bounds are valid for any numerical method, and rely on regularity properties of solutions of a dual parabolic problem in nondivergence form with vanishing diffusion coefficient. They are applied to a practical space-time discretization consisting of piecewise linear finite elements over highly graded unstructured meshes, and backward finite differences with varying time-steps. Two rigorous a posteriori error estimates are derived for this scheme, and used in designing an efficient adaptive algorithm, which equidistributes space and time discretization errors via refinement/coarsening. A simulation finally compares the behavior of the rigorous a posteriori error estimators with a heuristic approach, and hints at the potentials and reliability of the proposed method.

This article focuses on goal oriented error control for dynamic linear thermoelastic problems. To this end, we present a space-time formulation of this problem class. The corresponding space-time Galerkin discretization is the basis for the derivation of the error estimator using the dual weighted residual (DWR) method. A numerical example substantiates the accuracy and efficiency of the presented approach. (© 2015 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this paper, we derive a posteriori error estimates for finite element approximations of the optimal control problems governed by the Stokes-Darcy system. We obtain a posteriori error estimators for both the state and the control based on the residual of the finite element approximation. It is proved that the a posteriori error estimate provided in this paper is both reliable and efficient.  相似文献

Two a posteriori error estimates are discussed for the p‐Laplace problem. Up to errors in their numerical computation, they provide a guaranteed upper bound for the W1,p‐seminorm and a weighted W1,2‐seminorm of u – uh. The first, sharper a posteriori estimate is based on the numerical solution of local interface problems. The standard residual‐based error estimate is addressed with emphasis on involved constants, determined as local eigenvalues. Numerical examples that illustrate the performance of these estimators can be found in [3].  相似文献

We present an “a posteriori” error analysis in quantities of interest for elliptic homogenization problems discretized by the finite element heterogeneous multiscale method. The multiscale method is based on a macro‐to‐micro formulation, where the macroscopic physical problem is discretized in a macroscopic finite element space, and the missing macroscopic data are recovered on‐the‐fly using the solutions of corresponding microscopic problems. We propose a new framework that allows to follow the concept of the (single‐scale) dual‐weighted residual method at the macroscopic level in order to derive a posteriori error estimates in quantities of interests for multiscale problems. Local error indicators, derived in the macroscopic domain, can be used for adaptive goal‐oriented mesh refinement. These error indicators rely only on available macroscopic and microscopic solutions. We further provide a detailed analysis of the data approximation error, including the quadrature errors. Numerical experiments confirm the efficiency of the adaptive method and the effectivity of our error estimates in the quantities of interest. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The main goal of this paper is to present recovery type a posteriori error estimators and superconvergence for the nonconforming finite element eigenvalue approximation of self-adjoint elliptic equations by projection methods. Based on the superconvergence results of nonconforming finite element for the eigenfunction we derive superconvergence and recovery type a posteriori error estimates of the eigenvalue. The results are based on some regularity assumption for the elliptic problem and are applicable to the lowest order nonconforming finite element approximations of self-adjoint elliptic eigenvalue problems with quasi-regular partitions. Therefore, the results of this paper can be employed to provide useful a posteriori error estimators in practical computing under unstructured meshes.  相似文献

A posteriori error estimators based on quasi-norm gradient recovery are established for the finite element approximation of the p-Laplacian on unstructured meshes. The new a posteriori error estimators provide both upper and lower bounds in the quasi-norm for the discretization error. The main tools for the proofs of reliability are approximation error estimates for a local approximation operator in the quasi-norm.

In this paper, we study the a posteriori error estimator of SDG method for variable coefficients time-harmonic Maxwell's equations. We propose two a posteriori error estimators, one is the recovery-type estimator, and the other is the residual-type estimator. We first propose the curl-recovery method for the staggered discontinuous Galerkin method (SDGM), and based on the super-convergence result of the postprocessed solution, an asymptotically exact error estimator is constructed. The residual-type a posteriori error estimator is also proposed, and it's reliability and effectiveness are proved for variable coefficients time-harmonic Maxwell's equations. The efficiency and robustness of the proposed estimators is demonstrated by the numerical experiments.  相似文献

We propose and analyze an a posteriori error estimator for a partial differential equation (PDE)-constrained optimization problem involving a nondifferentiable cost functional, fractional diffusion, and control-constraints. We realize fractional diffusion as the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for a nonuniformly PDE and propose an equivalent optimal control problem with a local state equation. For such an equivalent problem, we design an a posteriori error estimator which can be defined as the sum of four contributions: two contributions related to the approximation of the state and adjoint equations and two contributions that account for the discretization of the control variable and its associated subgradient. The contributions related to the discretization of the state and adjoint equations rely on anisotropic error estimators in weighted Sobolev spaces. We prove that the proposed a posteriori error estimator is locally efficient and, under suitable assumptions, reliable. We design an adaptive scheme that yields, for the examples that we perform, optimal experimental rates of convergence.  相似文献

We propose and analyze a new technique for developing residual‐based a posteriori error estimates over the stress and scalar displacement error for the lowest‐order Raviart–Thomas mixed finite element discretizations of convection‐diffusion‐reaction equations in two‐dimension space. The new technique is based on the abstract error estimates, the postprocessed approximation of the scalar displacement, and on the construction of an auxiliary problem. We consider the centered and upwind‐weighted mixed schemes, and concentrate the attention on the presence of an inhomogeneous and an anisotropic diffusion‐dispersion tensor and on a possible convection dominance. Global upper bounds can be directly computed on the base of the solution of the mixed schemes without any additional cost. Local lower bounds without any saturation assumption, hold from the case where convection or reaction are not present to convection‐ or reaction‐dominated equations, and their local efficiency depends on local or global variations in coefficients similar to Péclect number. Numerical experiments are reported to show the competitive behavior of the proposed posteriori error estimates, and to confirm the theoretical findings. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article studies a posteriori error analysis of fully discrete finite element approximations for semilinear parabolic optimal control problems. Based on elliptic reconstruction approach introduced earlier by Makridakis and Nochetto [25], a residual based a posteriori error estimators for the state, co-state and control variables are derived. The space discretization of the state and co-state variables is done by using the piecewise linear and continuous finite elements, whereas the piecewise constant functions are employed for the control variable. The temporal discretization is based on the backward Euler method. We derive a posteriori error estimates for the state, co-state and control variables in the $L^\infty(0,T;L^2(\Omega))$-norm. Finally, a numerical experiment is performed to illustrate the performance of the derived estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, a type of accurate a posteriori error estimator is proposed for the Steklov eigenvalue problem based on the complementary approach, which provides an asymptotic exact estimate for the approximate eigenpair. Besides, we design a type of cascadic adaptive finite element method for the Steklov eigenvalue problem based on the proposed a posteriori error estimator. In this new cascadic adaptive scheme, instead of solving the Steklov eigenvalue problem in each adaptive space directly, we only need to do some smoothing steps for linearized boundary value problems on a series of adaptive spaces and solve some Steklov eigenvalue problems on a low dimensional space. Furthermore, the proposed a posteriori error estimator provides the way to refine mesh and control the number of smoothing steps for the cascadic adaptive method. Some numerical examples are presented to validate the efficiency of the algorithm in this paper.

We study a finite element method applied to a system of coupled wave equations in a bounded smooth domain in \mathbbRd {\mathbb{R}^d} , d = 1, 2, 3, associated with a locally distributed damping function. We start with a spatially continuous finite element formulation allowing jump discontinuities in time. This approach yields, L 2(L 2) and L (L 2), a posteriori error estimates in terms of weighted residuals of the system. The proof of the a posteriori error estimates is based on the strong stability estimates for the corresponding adjoint equations. Optimal convergence rates are derived upon the maximal available regularity of the exact solution and justified through numerical examples. Bibliography: 14 titles. In this paper, we consider the a posteriori error analysis of discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods for the steady and nonsteady first order hyperbolic problems with inflow boundary conditions. We establish several residual-based a posteriori error estimators which provide global upper bounds and a local lower bound on the error. Further, for nonsteady problem, we construct a fully discrete discontinuous finite element scheme and derive the a posteriori error estimators which yield global upper bound on the error in time and space. Our a posteriori error analysis is based on the mesh-dependent a priori estimates for the first order hyperbolic problems. These a posteriori error analysis results can be applied to develop the adaptive discontinuous finite element methods.  相似文献

We derive two optimal a posteriori error estimators for an implicit fully discrete approximation to the solutions of linear integro‐differential equations of the parabolic type. A continuous, piecewise linear finite element space is used for the space discretization and the time discretization is based on an implicit backward Euler method. The a posteriori error indicator corresponding to space discretization is derived using the anisotropic interpolation estimates in conjunction with a Zienkiewicz‐Zhu error estimator to approach the error gradient. The error due to time discretization is derived using continuous, piecewise linear polynomial in time. We use the linear approximation of the Volterra integral term to estimate the quadrature error in the second estimator. Numerical experiments are performed on the isotropic mesh to validate the derived results.© 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 32: 1309–1330, 2016  相似文献
