An analysis of the mass transfer effects on the free convective flow of an incompressible, dissipative, viscous fluid past an infinite, vertical porous plate with constant suction, has been carried out. Approximate solutions to coupled non-linear equations governing the flow are derived. The velocity and the temperature profiles are shown graphically for air (P=0·71). The effects of Gr (Grashof number), Gc (the modified Grashof number), Sc (Schmidt number), E (Eckert number) are discussed qualitatively during the course of discussion. It is observed that due to the addition of the foreign mass, there is a rise in the velocity and a fall in the temperature. But the skin-friction increases when Sc?1 and it decreases when Sc ~1. The rate of heat transfer increases for Sc<1 and decreases for Sc>1.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of the effects of first order chemical reaction and radiation on an unsteady MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an accelerated infinite vertical plate with variable temperature and mass transfer. The resulting approximate dimensionless system of governing partial differential equations are integrated in closed form by the Laplace transform technique A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow. Rosseland model of radiation has been chosen in the investigation, the expressions for the velocity field, temperature field and concentration field and skin-friction in the direction of the flow, coefficient of heat transfer and mass flux at the plate have been obtained in non-dimensional form and these are illustrated graphically for various physical parameters involved in the study. Investigation reveals that the fluid velocity is decelerated in the region adjacent to the plate, due to the effect of first order chemical reaction and the rate of heat transfer (from plate to the fluid) decreases due to the absorption of thermal radiation. The results obtained in this work are consistent with physical situation of the problem.  相似文献

Scaling laws are established for the profiles of mean velocity and temperature, Reynolds-stress components, turbulent heat flux and mean-square temperature fluctuation, skin friction and wall heat transfer in the turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate with transpiration. In the case of blowing, the velocity and temperature distributions represented in scaling variables outside the viscous sublayer have universal forms known from experimental data for flow over an impermeable flat plate. The turbulent shearing stress and heat flux also can be represented in terms of these two functions. In the case of suction, the mean quantities are described by one-parameter families of curves. Universal skin-friction and heat-transfer laws provide a basis for representation of the skin-friction and heat-flux distributions corresponding to different Reynolds numbers and transpiration velocities in terms of universal functions of one variable. The results are obtained without invoking any special closure hypotheses. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The problem of free convection flow of an elastico-viscous liquid through a vertical circular cylinder at constant temperature including the effects of frictional heating and distributed heat sources or sinks has been considered. The equations of motion and energy have been solved by an iteration technique. The effects of the elasticity of the liquid, buoyancy forces and heat sources or sinks on the velocity and temperature fields, skin-friction and Nusselt number have been discussed.  相似文献

The effects of step function change in suction velocity are investigated for a natural convection flow from a vertical porous flat plate of infinite length in the presence of transverse magnetic field for two cases namely (i) when the plate is suddenly raised to a uniform higher temperature, (ii) when the plate suddenly begins to generate a uniform heat flux at its surface. In (i) the coefficient of heat transfer becomes independent of the Hartmann numberM. In either case for a fixed time t except for correct steady state t→ ∞, the effect of the Hartmann number is to decrease both the velocity of the fluid and the skin-friction at the plate. In the correct steady state the velocity field and the skin-fiiction become independent of the Hartmann number.  相似文献

The influence of thermal radiation and first-order chemical reaction on unsteady MHD convective flow, heat and mass transfer of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past a semi-infinite vertical flat plate in the presence of transverse magnetic field under oscillatory suction and heat source in slip-flow regime is studied. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are formulated and solved analytically using two-term harmonic and non-harmonic functions. Comparisons with previously published work on special cases of the problem are performed and results are found to be in excellent agreement. A parametric study illustrating the effects of various physical parameters on the fluid velocity, temperature and concentration fields as well as skin-friction coefficient, the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers in terms of amplitude and phase is conducted. The numerical results of this parametric study are presented graphically and in tabular form to highlight the physical aspects of the problem.  相似文献

This article investigates the natural convection flow of viscous incompressible fluid in a channel formed by two infinite vertical parallel plates. Fully developed laminar flow is considered in a vertical channel with steady-periodic temperature regime on the boundaries. The effect of internal heating by viscous dissipation is taken into consideration. Separating the velocity and temperature fields into steady and periodic parts, the resulting second order ordinary differential equations are solved to obtain the expressions for velocity, and temperature. The amplitudes and phases of temperature and velocity are also obtained as well as the rate of heat transfer and the skin-friction on the plates. In presence of viscous dissipation, fluids of relatively small Prandtl number has higher temperature than the channel plates and as such, heat is being transferred from the fluid to the plate.  相似文献

An analysis is performed to obtain the nonsimilar solution of an unsteady laminar mixed convection on a continuously moving vertical plate by taking into account the effect of viscous dissipation. The unsteadiness is introduced by the time-dependent velocity of the vertical plate as well as that of the free stream. The governing boundary layer equations along with the boundary conditions are first cast into a dimensionless form by a nonsimilar transformation and the resulting system of nonlinear coupled partial differential equations is then solved by an implicit finite difference scheme in combination with the quasilinearization technique. The effects of various parameters on velocity and temperature profiles and on skin friction coefficients and heat transfer rate at the wall are reported in the present study.  相似文献

The flow of a laminar wall jet along either a moving plate, or in a free stream, or in combined moving plate and free stream is considered. The plate is isothermal and its temperature is different from that of the ambient fluid. The governing boundary-layer equations are converted into non-dimensional form and are solved numerically. Velocity and temperature profiles as well as the variation of wall shear stress and wall heat transfer are presented for all cases considered. For the case of a moving plate new results have been found although this problem has been investigated in the past. For the case of the free stream and the combined moving plate/free stream all the results are new and are presented for the first time in the literature. The three cases have been tackled with a unified way.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the flow and heat and mass transfer characteristics of the free convection on a vertical plate with variable wall temperature and concentration in a doubly stratified micropolar fluid. A uniform magnetic field is applied normal to the plate. The governing non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations and then solved numerically using the Keller-box method. The numerical results are compared and found to be in good agreement with previously published results as special cases of the present investigation. The non-dimensional velocity, microrotation, temperature and concentration are presented graphically for various values of magnetic parameter, coupling number, thermal and solutal stratification parameters. In addition, the Nusselt number, the Sherwood number, the skin-friction coefficient, and the wall couple stress are shown in a tabular form.  相似文献

Exact solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are derived by a Laplace-transform technique for two-dimensional, incompressible flow of an electrically conducting fluid past an infinite porous plate under the action of a transverse magnetic field subject to the conditions: (i) the magnetic Prandtl number Pm is unity, and (ii) the Alfven velocity is less than the suction velocity. It is assumed that the flow is independent of the distance parallel to the plate and that the velocity component normal to the plate is constant. General formulae are derived for the velocity distribution and the magnetic field in terms of the given external velocity. The skin-friction is obtained and some special cases are considered.  相似文献

Of concern in this paper is an investigation of biomagnetic flow of a non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet under the influence of an applied magnetic field generated owing to the presence of a magnetic dipole. The viscoelasticity of the fluid is characterised by Walter’s B fluid model. The applied magnetic field has been considered to be sufficiently strong to saturate the ferrofluid. The magnetization of the fluid is considered to vary linearly with temperature as well as the magnetic field intensity. The theoretical treatment of the physical problem consists of reducing it to solving a system of non-linear coupled differential equations that involve six parameters, which are solved by developing a finite difference technique. The velocity profile, the skin-friction, the wall pressure and the rate of heat transfer at the sheet are computed for a specific situation. The study shows that the fluid velocity increases as the rate of heat transfer decreases, while the local skin-friction and the wall pressure increase as the magnetic field strength is increased. It is also revealed that fluid viscoelasticity has an enhancing effect on the local skin-friction. The study will have an important bearing on magnetic drug targeting and separation of red cells as well as on the control of blood flow during surgery.  相似文献

The combined effect of viscous dissipation and joule heating on steady Magnetohydrodynamic heat and mass transfer flow of viscous incompressible fluid over an inclined radiate isothermal permeable surface in the presence of thermophoresis is studied. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number and the local Stanton number are displayed graphically for various physical parameters. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and the results are found to be in very good agreement. Results show that rate of heat transfer is sensitive for increasing angle of inclination parameter for the case of fluid injection and it decreases with the increase of magnetic field parameter and Eckert number.  相似文献

An analytical study for the problem of unsteady mixed convection with thermal radiation and first-order chemical reaction on magnetohydrodynamics boundary layer flow of viscous, electrically conducting fluid past a vertical permeable plate has been presented. Slip boundary condition is applied at the porous interface. The classical model is used for studying the effect of radiation for optically thin media. The non-linear coupled partial differential equations are solved by perturbation technique. The results obtained show that the velocity, temperature and concentration fields are appreciably influenced by the presence of chemical reaction, thermal stratification and magnetic field. It is observed that the effect of thermal radiation and magnetic field decreases the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles in the boundary layer. Also, the effects of the various parameters on the skin-friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer at the surface are discussed.  相似文献

Natural convection boundary layer laminar flow from a horizontal circular cylinder with uniform heat flux in presence of heat generation has been investigated. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a non-dimensional form and the resulting non-linear systems of partial differential equations, which are solved numerically by two distinct methods namely: (i) implicit finite difference method together with the Keller-box scheme and (ii) perturbation solution technique. The results of the surface shear stress in terms of local skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer in terms of local Nusselt number, velocity distribution, velocity vectors, temperature distribution as well as streamlines, isotherms and isolines of pressure are shown by graphically for a selection of parameter set consisting of heat generation parameter.  相似文献

In this work, the effects of slip velocity on the flow and heat transfer for an electrically conducting micropolar fluid over a permeable stretching surface with variable heat flux in the presence of heat generation (absorption) and a transverse magnetic field are investigated. The governing partial differential equations describing the problem are converted to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by using the similarity transformation, which is solved numerically using the Chebyshev spectral method. The effects of the slip parameter on the flow, micro-rotation and temperature profiles as well as on the local skin-friction coefficient, the wall couple stress and the local Nusselt number are presented graphically. The numerical results of the local skin-friction coefficient, the wall couple stress and the local Nusselt number are given in a tabular form and discussed.  相似文献

A consistent asymptotic theory describing hydrodynamic and thermal turbulent boundary layers on a flat plate in zero pressure gradient is developed. The fact that the flow depends on a limited number of governing parameters allows us to formulate algebraic closure conditions that relate the turbulent shear stress and turbulent heat flux to mean velocity and temperature gradients. As a result of an exact asymptotic solution of the boundary-layer equations, the known laws of the wall for the velocity and temperature and the velocity and temperature defect laws as well as the expressions for the skin-friction coefficient, Stanton number, and Reynolds-analogy factor are obtained. The latter implies two new formulations for the temperature defect law one of which is completely similar to the velocity defect law and does not contain the Stanton number and the turbulent Prandtl number, and the other does not contain the skin-friction coefficient. A heat-transfer law is obtained that relates only thermal quantities. The theoretical conclusions agree well with experimental data. (© 2015 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The two-dimensional, incompressible flow past an infinite plate of a weakly conducting fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is discussed when the suction velocity normal to the plate as well as the external flow velocity vary periodically with time. Expressions for the velocity and the skin-friction in the boundary layer have been obtained in a non-dimensional form.  相似文献
