Radiative Correction to Casimir Effect

Radiative correction to Casimir effect is calculated in the U(1).gauge field theory by using Feyman path integral method. The expressions for the radiative correction to the Casimir energy and the Casimir force are given.     

Gravitational Correction to Hyperfine Structure

The effective Hamiltonian of a fermion with spin-spin coupling to another fermion is derived from the non-relativistic approximation of the generally covariant Dirac equation in a weak gravitational field. This makes hyperfine structure of s-state of atomic hydrogen to be triplet other than the doublet in fiat spacetime. The difference is large enough to be measured for the atomic hydrogen on the earth and the sun.     

Correction to image potential between metals

It is shown that the potential of a charged particle in the gap between two metals is substantially different from that obtained by the multiple-image method, when the gap is small. This is due to dispersion of plasmons, and has implications on analysis of tunnel devices.

Following Manton, and Atiyah and Hitchin we consider approximating solutions to the dynamic Yang-Mills-Higgs equations by motions on the finite-dimensional space M_k of stable k-monopoles. For initial data transverse to M_k the approximate motion will not be geodesic motion but instead will be motion in an effective potential on M_k.
