A finite group G is called a Schur group, if any Schur ring over G is associated in a natural way with a subgroup of Sym(G) that contains all right translations. Recently, the authors have completely identified the cyclic Schur groups. In this article, it is shown that any abelian Schur group belongs to one of several explicitly given families only. In particular, any noncyclic abelian Schur group of odd order is isomorphic to ?3 × ?3 k or ?3 × ?3 × ? p where k ≥ 1 and p is a prime. In addition, we prove that ?2 × ?2 × ? p is a Schur group for every prime p.  相似文献

We define a particular type of automorphisms called transvections on a finite finite abelian p-group Hp. It is proved that the subgroup E of the automorphism group Aut(Hp) of Hp generated by those transvections is normal in it, and that Aut(Hp) can be written as the product of E and some abelian subgroup K. Let p be a prime. We prove that if a finite group G has non-abelian Sylow p-subgroups, and the class size of every p-element in G is coprime to p, then G contains a simple group as a subquotient which exhibits the same property. In addition, we provide a list of all the simple groups and primes such that the Sylow p-subgroups are non-abelian and all p-elements have class size coprime to p.  相似文献

The notion of globally irreducible representations of finite groups has been introduced by B. H. Gross, in order to explain new series of Euclidean lattices discovered recently by N. Elkies and T. Shioda using Mordell--Weil lattices of elliptic curves. In this paper we first give a necessary condition for global irreducibility. Then we classify all globally irreducible representations of L 2(q) and 2B2(q), and of the majority of the 26 sporadic finite simple groups. We also exhibit one more globally irreducible representation, which is related to the Weil representation of degree (pn-1)/2 of the symplectic group Sp2n(p) (p 1 (mod 4) is a prime). As a consequence, we get a new series of even unimodular lattices of rank 2(pn–1). A summary of currently known globally irreducible representations is given.  相似文献

It is well-known Heyde's characterization theorem for the Gaussian distribution on the real line: if j are independent random variables, j , j are nonzero constants such that i ± j –1 j 0 for all i j and the conditional distribution of L 2=1 1 + ··· + n n given L 1=1 1 + ··· + n n is symmetric, then all random variables j are Gaussian. We prove some analogs of this theorem, assuming that independent random variables take on values in a finite Abelian group X and the coefficients j , j are automorphisms of X.  相似文献
