The quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductor beta"-(BEDT-TTF)2SF5CH2CF2SO3 (Tc approximately 4.4 K) shows very strong Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations which are superimposed on a highly anomalous steady background magnetoresistance, Rb. Comparison with de Haas-van Alphen oscillations allows a reliable estimate of Rb which is crucial for the correct extraction of the SdH signal. At low temperatures and high magnetic fields insulating behavior evolves. The magnetoresistance data violate Kohler's rule, i.e., cannot be described within the framework of semiclassical transport theory, but converge onto a universal curve appropriate for dynamical scaling at a metal-insulator transition.  相似文献

Transient mode locking of spiking solid-state lasers is studied with the help of two theoretical approaches. The first of them is an extension of the previous transient theory with single-mode rate equations to find the limited spike build-up time depending on the modulation index. The second is based on semiclassical multimode equations describing both spiking behaviour and formation of the picosecond pulse from the initial noise. The derivation of the equations as well as a comparison of results from both approaches are given. The obtained numerical results agree with experimental data. It is shown that the pulsewidth in a spiking laser can approach the small value predicted by the steady-state theory. This minimal pulsewidth can be reached at a smaller modulation index than predicted by the standard transient mode locking theory. The minimal modulation index for generation of good picosecond pulses free of noise is found to be 0.6 in our case. Losses connected with amplitude modulation have a negligible effect on spike build-up time and pulse duration.  相似文献

Pressure dependence of the Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations spectra of the quasi-two dimensional organic metal (ET)8[ Hg4Cl12(C6H5Br)2] have been studied up to 1.1 GPa in pulsed magnetic fields of up to 54 T. According to band structure calculations, its Fermi surface can be regarded as a network of compensated orbits. The SdH spectra exhibit many Fourier components typical of such a network, most of them being forbidden in the framework of the semiclassical model. Their amplitude remains large in all the pressure range studied which likely rules out chemical potential oscillation as a dominant contribution to their origin, in agreement with recent calculations relevant to compensated Fermi liquids. In addition to a strong decrease of the magnetic breakdown field and effective masses, the latter being likely due to a reduction of the strength of electron correlations, a sizeable increase of the scattering rate is observed as the applied pressure increases. This latter point, which is at variance with data of most charge transfer salts is discussed in connection with pressure-induced features of the temperature dependence of the zero-field interlayer resistance.  相似文献

In this article, we formulate the study of the unitary time evolution of systems consisting of an infinite number of uncoupled time-dependent harmonic oscillators in mathematically rigorous terms. We base this analysis on the theory of a single one-dimensional time-dependent oscillator, for which we first summarize some basic results concerning the unitary implementability of the dynamics. This is done by employing techniques different from those used so far to derive the Feynman propagator. In particular, we calculate the transition amplitudes for the usual harmonic oscillator eigenstates and define suitable semiclassical states for some physically relevant models. We then explore the possible extension of this study to infinite dimensional dynamical systems. Specifically, we construct Schrödinger functional representations in terms of appropriate probability spaces, analyze the unitarity of the time evolution, and probe the existence of semiclassical states for a wide range of physical systems, particularly, the well-known Minkowskian free scalar fields and Gowdy cosmological models.  相似文献

We study the effect on the density of states in mesoscopic ballistic billiards to which a superconducting lead is attached. The expression for the density of states is derived in the semiclassical S-matrix formalism shedding light onto the origin of the differences between the semiclassical theory and the corresponding result derived from random matrix models. Applications to a square billiard geometry and billiards with boundary roughness are discussed. The saturation of the quasiparticle excitation spectrum is related to the classical dynamics of the billiard. The influence of weak magnetic fields on the proximity effect in rough Andreev billiards is discussed and an analytical formula is derived. The semiclassical theory provides an interpretation for the suppression of the proximity effect in the presence of magnetic fields as a coherence effect of time reversed trajectories. It is shown to be in good agreement with quantum mechanical calculations. Received 21 August 1999 and Received in final form 21 March 2001  相似文献

Experimental data on masses and lifetimes of unstable particles falls into a pattern, a brief review of some interesting consequences is presented here. From the experience in semiclassical methods and recent advances in quantum chromodynamics, it is proposed that an appropriate generalization of the Gutzwiller trace formula for field theories may lead to a systematic semiclassical chromodynamics theory. The theory can be developed to get appropriate dynamics leading to an explanation of pattern discovered in the empirical data.

The complex nonperturbative color-confining dynamics of QCD is well captured in a semiclassical effective theory based on superconformal quantum mechanics and its extension to the light-front. I describe here how this new approach to hadron physics incorporates confinement, the appearance of nearly massless pseudoscalar particles, and Regge spectroscopy consistent with experiment. It also gives remarkable connections between the meson and baryon spectrum across the light and heavy-light hadron spectrum. I also briefly discuss how higher spin states are consistently described in this framework by the holographic embedding of the superconformal theory in a higher dimensional semiclassical gravity theory.  相似文献

We describe a new regime of magnetotransport in two-dimensional electron systems in the presence of a narrow potential barrier. In such systems, the Landau level states, which are confined to the barrier region in strong magnetic fields, undergo a deconfinement transition as the field is lowered. Transport measurements on a top-gated graphene device are presented. Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations, observed in the unipolar regime, are found to abruptly disappear when the strength of the magnetic field is reduced below a certain critical value. This behavior is explained by a semiclassical analysis of the transformation of closed cyclotron orbits into open, deconfined trajectories.  相似文献

We show that the semiclassical approach to chaotic quantum transport in the presence of time-reversal symmetry can be described by a matrix model. In other words, we construct a matrix integral whose perturbative expansion satisfies the semiclassical diagrammatic rules for the calculation of transport statistics. One of the virtues of this approach is that it leads very naturally to the semiclassical derivation of universal predictions from random matrix theory.  相似文献

A semiclassical expression is derived for the spectral Wigner function of ergodic billiards in terms of a sum over contributions from classical periodic orbits. It represents a generalization of a similar formula by Berry, which does not immediately apply to billiard systems. These results are a natural generalization of Gutzwiller's trace formula for the density of states. Our theory clarifies the origin of scars in the eigenfunctions of billiard systems. However, in its present form, it is unable to predict what states will be dominated by individual periodic orbits. Finally, we compare some of the predictions of our theory with numerical results from the stadium. Within the limitations of numerical resolution, we find agreement between the two.  相似文献

The electronic structure of the quasi two-dimensional (2D) organic superconductor -(ET)2SF5CH2CF2SO3 was examined by measuring Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) and angle-dependent magnetoresistance (AMRO) oscillations and by comparing with electronic band-structure calculations. The SdH oscillation frequencies follow the angular dependence expected for a 2D Fermi surface (FS), and the observed fundamental frequency shows that the 2D FS is 5% of the first Brillouin zone in size. The AMRO data indicate that the shape of the 2D FS is significantly non-circular. The calculated electronic structure has a 2D FS in general agreement with experiment. From the temperature and angular dependence of the SdH amplitude, the cyclotron and band effective masses were estimated to be and ,where g is the conduction electron g factor and the free electron mass. The band effective mass is estimated to be from the calculated electronic band structure. The semiclassical theory of gravity is studied in terms of representation of scalar field in thermal coherent state and thermal squeezed state formalisms. For the FRW cosmological model with a minimal scalar field, the semiclassical Einstein equation reduces to zero-point energy term plus a finite temperature term and classical term in thermal coherent state. In thermal squeezed vacuum state it reduces to quantum term in addition to the finite temperature term and zero-point energy term. The present study can account for nonclassical state and finite temperature effect contributions to energy density in semiclassical theory of gravity.  相似文献

We consider the quantization of the complete extension of the Schwarzschild space-time using spherically symmetric loop quantum gravity. We find an exact solution corresponding to the semiclassical theory. The singularity is eliminated but the space-time still contains a horizon. Although the solution is known partially numerically and therefore a proper global analysis is not possible, a global structure akin to a singularity-free Reissner-Nordstr?m space-time including a Cauchy horizon is suggested.  相似文献

In this paper a semiclassical propagator in a mixed position--momentum space is derived in the formalism of Maslov's multi-dimensional semiclassical theory. The corresponding mixed van Vleck determinant is also given explicitly. The propagator can be used to locally fix semiclassical divergences in singular regions of configuration space. It is shown that when a semiclassical propagator is transformed from one representation to another, its form is invariant.  相似文献

We present a divergence-free WKB theory, which is a new semiclassical theory modified by nonperturbative quantum corrections. Conventionally, the WKB theory is constructed upon a trajectory that obeys the bare classical dynamics expressed by a quadratic equation in momentum space. Contrary to this, the divergence-free WKB theory is based on a higher-order algebraic equation in momentum space, which represents a dressed classical dynamics. More precisely, this higher-order algebraic equation is obtained by including quantum corrections to the quadratic equation, which is the bare classical limit. An additional solution of the higher-order algebraic equation enables us to construct a uniformly converging perturbative expansion of the wavefunction. Namely, our theory removes the notorious divergence of wavefunction at a turning point from the WKB theory. Moreover, our theory is able to produce wavefunctions and eigenenergies more accurate than those given by the traditional WKB method. In addition, the divergence-free WKB theory that is based on the cubic equation allows us to construct a uniformly valid wavefunction for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). A recent short letter [T. Hyouguchi, S. Adachi, M. Ueda, Phys. Rev. Lett. 88 (2002) 170404] is the opening of the divergence-free WKB theory. This paper presents full formalism of this theory and its several applications concerning wavefunction and eigenenergy to show that our theory is a natural extension of the traditional WKB theory that incorporates nonperturbative quantum corrections.  相似文献
