Sub-Doppler bandwidth atomic optical filter   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We demonstrate what is to our knowledge the first atomic optical filter that uses velocity selection to achieve a passband width that is less than the Doppler width of the filtering transition. A narrow-linewidth pump laser is used to induce circular birefringence in a narrow velocity class of atoms in a dense potassium vapor for 694-nm light resonant with the 4P(3/2)-6S(1/2) transition. The filter displays a single 170-MHz passband at a peak transmittance of 9.5%. The bandwidth is an order of magnitude lower than that of previously demonstrated atomic optical filters.  相似文献

We report the experimental demonstration of an ultranarrow bandwidth atomic filter by optically induced polarization rotation in multilevel electromagnetically induced transparency systems in hot Rb vapor. With a coupling intensity of 2.3 W/cm^2, the filter shows a peak transmission of 33.2% and a bandwidth of 10 MHz. By altering the coupling frequency, a broad tuning range of several Doppler linewidths of the D1 line transitions of STRb atoms can be obtained. The presented atomic filter has useful features of ultranarrow bandwidth, and the operating frequency can be tuned resonance with the atomic transition. Such narrowband tunable atomic filter can be used as an efficient noise rejection tool in classical and quantum optical applications.  相似文献

The operation of an ultra-narrow bandwidth optical filter based on the 5P3/2 → 5D3/2 excited-state transition in rubidium vapor is reported. The 5D3/2 state is excited by a circularly polarized pump beam at 780 nm from a diode laser. The filter displays a single 398-MHz bandwidth at a peak transmission of 9.0%, which is narrower than the Doppler bandwidth. The dependence of peak transmission on the pump intensity and cell temperature is also given.  相似文献

We present a precise measurement of a weak radio frequency electric field with a frequency of ■3 GHz employing a resonant atomic probe that is constituted with a Rydberg cascade three-level atom, including a cesium ground state |6S(1/2)〉,an excited state |6P(3/2)〉, and Rydberg state |nD(5/2)〉. Two radio frequency(RF) electric fields, noted as local and signal fields, couple the nearby Rydberg transition. The two-photon resonant Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency(Rydberg-EIT) is employed to directly read out the weak signal field having hundreds of k Hz difference between the local and signal fields that is encoded in the resonant microwave-dressed Rydberg atoms. The minimum detectable signal fields of ESmin= 1.36 ± 0.04 mV/m for 2.18 GHz coupling |68D(5/2)〉→ |69P(3/2)〉 transition and 1.33 ± 0.02 mV/m for 1.32 GHz coupling |80D(5/2)〉→ |81P(3/2)〉 transition are obtained, respectively. The bandwidth dependence is also investigated by varying the signal field frequency and corresponding -3 dB bandwidth of 3 MHz is attained. This method can be employed to perform a rapid and precise measurement of the weak electric field, which is important for the atom-based microwave metrology.  相似文献

基于成熟的光纤激光器、光纤放大器及高效激光频率转换技术,我们在实验中研制了一套瓦级输出的窄线宽连续波单频可调谐318.6 nm紫外激光系统,并在室温铯原子气室中实现了6S_(1/2)—nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)单光子跃迁里德伯激发.借助由铯原子6S_(1/2)(F=4)基态、6P_(3/2)(F′=5)激发态和nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)里德伯态构成的V型三能级系统,通过频率锁定于铯原子6S_(1/2)(F=4)—6P_(3/2)(F′=5)超精细跃迁的852.3 nm探测光束的吸收减弱信号获得了里德伯态的信息,并利用高精度波长计测量了铯原子nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)里德伯态的量子亏损值.经过与理论计算值的变化趋势进行对比,我们认为由于原子气室的里德伯屏蔽效应并不能完全屏蔽外部直流电场,铯原子气室内存在残余的直流电场,影响了对里德伯态的量子亏损值的实验测量.利用残余直流电场的Stark效应理论模型及其与有效主量子数n*的依赖关系,对铯原子里德伯态的量子亏损实验测量值进行了修正.修正后的铯原子nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)态量子亏损测量值为3.5591±0.0007,与理论计算值相吻合.  相似文献

本文从理论和实验上对Cs39D态Rydberg原子在弱电场作用下的Stark效应做了详细研究. 理论上利用数值方法计算了Cs原子39D态的Stark结构;实验上,采用两步激发超冷基态原子获得超冷Rydberg原子,通过场电离的方法获得了39D态的Stark光谱,测量获得α5/22,α5/20,α3/22α3/20相应的极化率分别为:62(7),-146(13), 73(6) 和-106(20) MHz·V-2cm2,实验结果与理论相符合. 关键词: Rydberg原子 Stark结构 场电离 极化率  相似文献

Laser cooling and trapping offers the possibility of confining a sample of radioactive atoms in free space. Here, we address the question of how best to take advantage of cold atom properties to perform the observation of as highly forbidden a line as the 6S-7S Cs transition for achieving, in the longer term, atomic parity violation (APV) measurements in radioactive alkali isotopes. Another point at issue is whether one might do better with stable, cold atoms than with thermal atoms. To compensate for the large drawback of the small number of atoms available in a trap, one must take advantage of their low velocity. To lengthen the time of interaction with the excitation laser, we suggest choosing a geometry where the laser beam exciting the transition is colinear to a slow, cold atomic beam, either extracted from a trap or prepared by Zeeman slowing. We also suggest a new observable physical quantity manifesting APV, which presents several advantages: specificity, efficiency of detection, possibility of direct calibration by a parity conserving quantity of a similar nature. It is well adapted to a configuration where the cold atomic beam passes through two regions of transverse, crossed electric fields, leading both to differential measurements and to strong reduction of the contributions from the M1-Stark interference signals, potential sources of systematics in APV measurements. Our evaluation of signal-to-noise ratios shows that with available techniques, measurements of transition amplitudes, important as required tests of atomic theory, should be possible in 133Cs with a statistical precision of 10-3 and probably also in Fr isotopes for production rates of Fr atoms s-1. 运用密度泛函方法在(U)B3LYP/LanL2DZ水平上研究了两个铌原子掺杂硅团簇的几何和电子结构。计算结果表明,Nb2Sin(n=1~6)团簇相对最稳定的结构基本上都保持了Sin+2团簇基态构型的框架,且除了Nb2Si2团簇外,所有的基态都是单重态构型.Nb2Si3的分裂能最大,成为Nb2Sin( n=1~6)团簇中热力学稳定性最强的. 在Nb2Si团簇和Nb2Si2 团簇中电子是从Nb原子向Si原子转移的;当n=3~6时,两个Nb原子的自然电子布局为负,说明Nb2Sin(n=3~6)团簇原子中带电子从Si原子转移到两个Nb原子,电子转移方向发生了改变,即发生了电子反转现象。  相似文献

We report an excited-state Faraday anomalous-dispersion optical filter operating on the rubidium 5P(3/2)-5D(5/2) transition (775.9 nm in vacuum) without the use of a pump laser. An electrodeless discharge vapor lamp is employed to replace the Rb vapor cell in a traditional Faraday anomalous-dispersion optical filter system. Atoms can be excited by power rather than a complex frequency-locked pump laser. A proof-of-concept experimental demonstration with a maximum transmission of 1.9% and a filter bandwidth of 650 MHz is presented.  相似文献

为了得到在高背景噪音下对弱信号光的提取,实验研究了基于87Rb D1线5S1/2F=2→5P1/2 F'=1跃迁的795 nm法拉第反常色散光学滤波器.充铷的样品池所含87Rb的比例高于自然铷,样品池处在均匀的磁场中并且夹在两个相互正交的偏振片之间.入射的探测光通过样品池,与原子相互作用,由于法拉第旋转效应实现滤波功能.改变实验条件,透射结果随之明显变化.当温度从340 K升高到360 K,透射谱的变化情况被细致记录,并且分析了导致透射情况变化的原因.在适当的工作温度以及磁场条件下,得到线宽为约220 MHz的超窄带透射谱线,谱线透过率约为48%.87Rb D1线的实验结果优于85Rb的吸收线.  相似文献

First experimental investigations are reported on nonlinear beam shaping due to the interaction between an intense laser beam and a cloud of laser cooled rubidium atoms. Resonant excitation of the F = 3 ↔ F = 4 hyperfine transition is considered. The single-pass interaction through the cold vapor causes an increase in the laser beam intensity in the forward direction (zero transverse wavevector component) when observed in Fourier space, for sufficiently high values of saturation. A qualitative explanation of the observations based on a two-level model for a resonantly excited transition proves acceptable. The observations are compatible with an interpretation based on nonlinear index-induced focusing of an incident beam with curved wavefront, as is used in z-scan measurements. Simple physical considerations allow us to deduce the conditions for the observability of optical patterns in the beam transmitted by a cold atomic cloud.  相似文献

An atomic optical filter based on optical anisotropy induced by another left-circularly polarized pump field is theoretically and experimentally investigated in the 5S1/2–5P3/2–5D3/2 ladder-type system of rubidium vapor. The filter displays a single peak transmission of 14.4% with 396 MHz bandwidth narrower than Doppler width. Furthermore, the variation of peak transmission versus pump intensity, pump detuning and cell temperature are also given. The theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement, which can enhance understanding of operation mechanism for this category of filter. The narrow-bandwidth filter is useful for free-space optical systems and laser spectroscopy.  相似文献

We report our studies on an intense source of cold cesium atoms based on a two-dimensional(2D) magneto–optical trap(MOT) with independent axial cooling and pushing.The new-designed source,proposed as 2D-HP MOT,uses hollow laser beams for axial cooling and a thin pushing laser beam to extract a cold atomic beam.With the independent pushing beam,the atomic flux can be substantially optimized.The total atomic flux maximum obtained in the 2D-HP MOT is4.02 × 1010atoms/s,increased by 60 percent compared to the traditional 2D+MOT in our experiment.Moreover,with the pushing power 10 μW and detuning 0Γ,the 2D-HP MOT can generate a rather intense atomic beam with the concomitant light shift suppressed by a factor of 20.The axial velocity distribution of the cold cesium beams centers at 6.8 m/s with an FMHW of about 2.8 m/s.The dependences of the atomic flux on the pushing power and detuning are studied in detail.The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical model.  相似文献

We report a frequency stabilization technique of a diode laser in a Doppler-free atomic transition used for obtaining the magneto-optical trapping of Rb atoms. This technique, based on side locking to an atomic transition using a servo controller, is very simple and can be implemented straightforwardly to lock the laser at the red detuned frequency position required for laser cooling experiments. The number of trapped atoms and the temperature of the cold cloud have been determined. The effect of trapping the magnetic field on the cloud radius has also been analyzed.  相似文献

We demonstrate that emission-induced self-organization of two-level atoms can effect strong damping of the sample's center-of-mass motion. When illuminated by far-detuned light, cold cesium atoms assemble into a density grating that efficiently diffracts the incident light into an optical resonator. We observe random phase jumps of pi in the emitted light, confirming spontaneous symmetry breaking in the atomic self-organization. The Bragg diffraction results in a collective friction force with center-of-mass deceleration up to 1000 m/s(2) that is effective even for an open atomic transition.  相似文献

在K原子密度约为0.5~5×1016cm-3的样品池中,脉冲激光710 nm线双光子激发K2基态到高位1Λg态,研究了K2(1Λg)+ K(4S)碰撞转移过程.K原子密度由测量KD2线蓝翼对白光的吸收得到.测量不同K密度下1Λg态发射的时间分辨荧光强度,它是一条指数衰减曲线,由此得到1Λg态的有效寿命,从描绘出的有效寿命倒数与K原子密度关系直线的斜率得到1Λg态总的碰撞猝灭截面为(2.1±0.2)×10-14cm2,从截距得到的辐射寿命为(22±2)ns.测量了K的6S →4P3/2和4D→4P3/2在不同K密度下的时间积分荧光强度,得到了K2(1Λg)+K→K2(11∑ +g)+K(6S,4D)碰撞转移截面为(1.5±0.3)×10-15cm2(对转移到6S)和(8.5±3.0)×10-15cm2(对转移到4D).  相似文献

We investigate transverse effects in collective atomic recoil lasing (CARL), where a cold atomic sample is lightened by a far detuned laser beam resonant with the internal atomic transition. The gradient force of the scattered radiation field produces a collective self-focusing on the atoms, which could be observed in a Bose-Einstein condensate stored in a bidirectional optical ring cavity or in the superradiant CARL-BEC regime.  相似文献

在室温铯原子蒸气池中, 由铯原子基态、激发态和里德堡态构建了阶梯型三能级系统, 研究了里德堡原子阶梯型三能级系统的电磁感应透明(EIT). 在实现电磁感应透明的基础上, 利用16.9 GHz的射频电场耦合相邻的原子里德堡态, 实现49S1/2→47D3/2的双光子跃迁, 测量了里德堡原子的射频双光子光谱, 观察到了电磁感应透明光谱的分裂, 进一步研究了电场强度对射频双光子光谱的影响. 利用里德堡原子的EIT效应可实现对射频电场幅值和极化的精密测量, 具有潜在的应用前景.  相似文献
