We consider the Stokes eigenvalue problem. For the eigenvalues we derive both upper and lower a‐posteriori error bounds. The estimates are verified by numerical computations. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2009  相似文献

In this work, the residual‐type posteriori error estimates of stabilized finite volume method are studied for the steady Stokes problem based on two local Gauss integrations. By using the residuals between the source term and numerical solutions, the computable global upper and local lower bounds for the errors of velocity in H1 norm and pressure in L2 norm are derived. Furthermore, a global upper bound of u ? uh in L2‐norm is also derived. Finally, some numerical experiments are provided to verify the performances of the established error estimators. Charalambos Makridakis In this paper, we derive a posteriori error estimates for space-discreteapproximations of the time-dependent Stokes equations. By usingan appropriate Stokes reconstruction operator, we are able towrite an auxiliary error equation, in pointwise form, that satisfiesthe exact divergence-free condition. Thus, standard energy estimatesfrom partial differential equation theory can be applied directly, and yield a posteriori estimates that rely on available correspondingestimates for the stationary Stokes equation. Estimates of optimalorder in L(L2) and L(H1) for the velocity are derived for finite-elementand finite-volume approximations.  相似文献

We derive computable a posteriori error estimates for the lowest order nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart element applied to the approximation of incompressible Stokes flow. The estimator provides an explicit upper bound that is free of any unknown constants, provided that a reasonable lower bound for the inf-sup constant of the underlying problem is available. In addition, it is shown that the estimator provides an equivalent lower bound on the error up to a generic constant.

We consider a non-conforming domain decomposition techniquefor the discretization of the three-dimensional Stokes equationsby the mortar finite-element method. Relying on the velocity–pressureformulation of the system, we perform the numerical analysisof residual error indicators for this problem and we prove thatthe error estimators provide upper and lower bounds for theenergy norm of the mortar finite-element solution.  相似文献

A time discrete scheme is used to approximate the solution toa phase field system of Penrose–Fife type with a non-conservedorder parameter. An a posteriori error estimate is presentedthat allows the estimation of the difference between continuousand semidiscrete solutions by quantities that can be calculatedfrom the approximation and given data.  相似文献

In the numerical treatment of integral equations of the first kind using boundary element methods (BEM), the author and E. P. Stephan have derived a posteriori error estimates as tools for both reliable computation and self-adaptive mesh refinement. So far, efficiency of those a posteriori error estimates has been indicated by numerical examples in model situations only. This work affirms efficiency by proving the reverse inequality. Based on best approximation, on inverse inequalities and on stability of the discretization, and complementary to our previous work, an abstract approach yields a converse estimate. This estimate proves efficiency of an a posteriori error estimate in the BEM on quasi--uniform meshes for Symm's integral equation, for a hypersingular equation, and for a transmission problem.

We present a posteriori error analysis of discontinuous Galerkin methods for solving the obstacle problem, which is a representative elliptic variational inequality of the first kind. We derive reliable error estimators of the residual type. Efficiency of the estimators is theoretically explored and numerically confirmed.  相似文献

We consider the a posteriori error estimates for finite element approximations of the Stokes–Darcy system. The finite element spaces adopted are the Hood–Taylor element for the velocity and the pressure in fluid region and conforming piecewise quadratic element for the pressure in porous media region. The a posteriori error estimate is based on a suitable evaluation on the residual of the finite element solution. It is proven that the a posteriori error estimate provided in this paper is both reliable and efficient. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this article, we study the Stokes problem with some nonstandard boundary conditions. The variational formulation decouples into a system for the velocity and a Poisson equation for the pressure. The corresponding discrete system do not need an inf‐sup condition. Hence, the velocity is approximated with “ curl ” conforming finite elements and the pressure with standard continuous elements. Next, we establish optimal a priori and a posteriori estimates and we finally concluded with numerical tests. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2012  相似文献

The local averaging technique has become a popular tool in adaptive finite element methods for solving partial differential boundary value problems since it provides efficient a posteriori error estimates by a simple postprocessing. In this paper, the technique is introduced to solve a class of symmetric eigenvalue problems. Its efficiency and reliability are proved by both the theory and numerical experiments structured meshes as well as irregular meshes. Dedicated to Charles A. We present and analyze an a posteriori error estimator based on mesh refinement for the solution of the hypersingular boundary integral equation governing the Laplacian in three dimensions. The discretization under consideration is a nonconforming domain decomposition method based on the Nitsche technique. Assuming a saturation property, we establish quasireliability and efficiency of the error estimator in comparison with the error in a natural (nonconforming) norm. Numerical experiments with uniform and adaptively refined meshes confirm our theoretical results. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 30: 947–963, 2014  相似文献

Energy norm a posteriori error estimates for mixed finite element methods   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
This paper deals with the a posteriori error analysis of mixed finite element methods for second order elliptic equations. It is shown that a reliable and efficient error estimator can be constructed using a postprocessed solution of the method. The analysis is performed in two different ways: under a saturation assumption and using a Helmholtz decomposition for vector fields.

We consider a class of finite‐volume schemes on unstructured meshes for symmetric hyperbolic linear systems of balance laws in two and three space dimensions. This class of schemes has been introduced and analyzed by Vila and Villedieu ( 5 ). They have proven an a priori error estimate for approximations of smooth solutions. We extend the results to weak solutions. This is the base to derive an a posteriori error estimate for finite‐volume approximations of weak solutions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we develop functional a posteriori error estimates for discontinuous Galerkin (DG) approximations of elliptic boundary‐value problems. These estimates are based on a certain projection of DG approximations to the respective energy space and functional a posteriori estimates for conforming approximations developed by S. Repin (see e.g., Math Comp 69 (2000) 481–500). On these grounds, we derive two‐sided guaranteed and computable bounds for the errors in “broken” energy norms. A series of numerical examples presented confirm the efficiency of the estimates. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2009  相似文献

In this article, we construct and analyze a residual-based a posteriori error estimator for a quadratic finite volume method (FVM) for solving nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We shall prove that the a posteriori error estimator yields the global upper and local lower bounds for the norm error of the FVM. So that the a posteriori error estimator is equivalent to the true error in a certain sense. Numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a posteriori error estimator for the nonconforming finite element approximation, including using Crouzeix–Raviart element and extended Crouzeix–Raviart element, of the Stokes eigenvalue problem. With the technique of Helmholtz decomposition, we first give out a posteriori error estimator and prove it as the global upper bound and local lower bound of the approximation error. Then, by deleting a jump term in the indicator, another simpler but equivalent indicator is obtained. Some numerical experiments are provided to verify our analysis.  相似文献
