The effects of a silane coupling agent on curing characteristics and mechanical properties of bamboo fibre filled natural rubber composites were studied. Scorch time, t2 and cure time, t90 of the composites decrease with increasing filler loading and with the presence of a silane coupling agent, Si69. Mooney viscosity also increases with increasing filler loading but at a similar filler loading shows lower value with the presence of Si69. The mechanical properties of composites viz tensile strength, tear strength, hardness and tensile modulus were also improved with the addition of Si69.  相似文献

The current research work presents a novel nonionic curing agent (AEDA) synthesized by utilizing ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE), 3,4-dimethoxyaniline (DI), and triethylenetetramine (TETA). Infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy were used to characterize the structure of AEDA curing agent. Non-isothermal scanning calorimetry was used to determine the activation energy and curing conditions of epoxy resin in the curing process. An impact testing machine, a tensile testing machine and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to analyze the impact strength, tensile strength, bending strength, and micromorphology of the AEDA/E-51 system with different mass ratios. The results show that AEDA is an effective high-temperature curing agent. For the AEDA/E-51 system with the optimal mass ratio of 10:100, the best curing temperature is 92.15°C, and the post-curing temperature is 135.65°C. Furthermore, the apparent activation energy (Ea) of 1670 J/mol, the pre-exponential factor (A) of 3.7 × 10?4, and the reaction series (n) value of 0.76 are obtained for the AEDA/E-51 system. The impact strength of AEDA/E-51 epoxy resin polymer is 7.82 kJ/m2, tensile strength is 14.2 MPa, and bending strength is 18.92 MPa. The micromorphological results of the AEDA/E-51 system are consistent with the results of DSC test and mechanical properties test. Hence, this study provides theoretical support for the practical applications of AEDA as curing agent.  相似文献

A novel glass fiber reinforced composite was prepared by using silicon‐containing hybrid polymers, poly(methylhydrogen‐diethynylsilyene) (PMES) and poly(phenylethynyl‐silyloxide‐phenylborane) (APABS), as matrix resins. The curing behavior and rheological properties of the matrix resins were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rotational rheometer. The dynamic viscoelastic properties, mechanical properties, and microstructures of the composites were studied by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), universal testing machine (UTM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The results show that the composite can be well cured between 200 and 300 °C through reactive groups like Si‐H, N‐H, and C≡C units, the possible thermosetting mechanism is also proposed. The composites exhibit excellent mechanical properties with bending strength reach up to 261 and 178 MPa before and after heat‐treating, respectively. SEM analysis clearly indicates that crack in the matrix, matrix/fiber interface debonding, and fiber pull out are predominate failure mechanism for the composites which are heat‐treated in different temperatures. All these obtained results can give theoretical guiding reference for their further applications. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, rubber magnetic composites were prepared by incorporation of strontium ferrite into elastomeric matrix based on natural rubber. Cross‐linking of the rubber matrix was performed by using sulfur and peroxide curing system. The study was aimed at the investigation of the type of curing system and magnetic filler content on curing process and cross‐link density of prepared materials. Then, the influence of both factors on physical–mechanical and magnetic properties was observed. The obtained results demonstrate that sulfur‐cured composites show better physical–mechanical properties, especially at lower content of strontium ferrite. With increasing amount of ferrite, the differences between the characteristics of both types of composites became less visible, while peroxide‐cured sample with maximum ferrite content showed superior tensile strength in comparison with tensile strength of maximally filled sample cured with sulfur system. The obtained results demonstrate better compatibility between the rubber and the filler when peroxide system was introduced for cross‐linking of the rubber matrix. Traditional rubber industries rely heavily on petroleum-based materials, such as carbon black (CB). The present study aims at mitigating the environmental challenges, through partial replacement of CB, while simultaneously consuming an easily accessible agricultural waste. Accordingly, cellulose nanofibre (CNF) was extracted from wheat-straw using chemo-mechanical process, which in-turn was used for fabrication of CNF enabled rubber nanocomposites. Microstructural observation of CNF confirmed nanometric defibrillation of cellulose. A variety of tests were performed on the nanocomposites towards exploring their structure-property correlations, curing-behaviour, thermal degradability and mechanical (static and dynamic) properties. Overall, considerable enhancement in properties such as tensile strength and strain energy density could be realized, owing to synergistic use of CNF and CB in rubber, allowing for replacement of up to 15 phr CB. These were further augmented by significant improvements in dynamic rolling-resistance, traction and stress-softening behaviour. The results were especially significant, considering that the improvements could be achieved without any modification of CNF surface, thereby establishing its potential for development of environment friendly rubber nanocomposites.  相似文献

As environmental regulations are getting stricter, tire industries for automobiles have shown much interest in substituting silica for conventional carbon black partially or entirely. To take full advantage of silica as fillers for rubbers, it is essential to find a reasonable rubber system that shows an excellent performance with silica reinforcement. Therefore, in this study, several different rubber compounds comprising the same amount of silica were prepared with several different rubber systems, respectively. The processability, curing characteristics, and mechanical and viscoelastic properties of the rubber compounds were investigated to analyze the performance of the rubber compounds as tire tread materials. Among the rubber compounds studied, SBR1721 compound comprising natural rubber (NR) and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) with high styrene content was considered the most appropriate for application to tire tread materials. Developing conductive networks in a polymer matrix with a low percolation threshold and excellent mechanical properties is desired for soft electronics applications. In this work, natural rubber (NR) functionalized with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was prepared for strong interfacial interactions with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), resulting in excellent performance of the natural rubber nanocomposites. The MWCNT and methyl methacrylate functional groups gave good filler dispersion, conductivity and tensile properties. The filler network in the matrix was studied with microscopy and from its non-linear viscoelasticity. The Maier-Göritze approach revealed that MWCNT network formation was favored in the NR functionalized with PMMA, with reduced electrical and mechanical percolation thresholds. The obvious improvement in physical performance of MWCNT/methyl methacrylate functionalized natural rubber nanocomposites was caused by interfacial interactions and reduced filler agglomeration in the NR matrix. The modification of NR with poly(methyl methacrylate) and MWCNT filler was demonstrated as an effective pathway to enhance the mechanical and electrical properties of natural rubber nanocomposites.  相似文献

Modified silica-based isoprene rubber (IR) composite has been designed and prepared by using a multi-functional silane, 2-aminoethyl-2-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)aminoethyl disulfide (ATD), as coupling agent. Such modification significantly improved the dispersity of silica in the corresponding composites, as verified by SEM observation. And the hardness, tensile strength, stress at definite elongation, tear strength and temperature rise as well as the value of dynamic loss coefficient ranging from 0 °C to 80 °C of silica/IR vulcanized composites, are significantly improved, especially with low ATD dosage (2–4 phr). This modification of silica-based IR composite by employing ATD as coupling agent provides a facile and effective method to prepare silica-based rubber composites with improved mechanical properties and low hysteresis.  相似文献

The effects of high-temperature curing and overcuring on the cure characteristics, crosslink structure, physical properties and dynamic mechanical properties (DMPs) of gum and carbon black (N330) filled natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates cured with conventional (CV), semi-efficient (SEV) and efficient (EV) cure systems, which have about the same total crosslink densities under a moderate curing temperature of 150°C, were investigated. The gum NR vulcanizates cured with CV, SEV and EV curing systems have about the same glass transition temperature (Tg) and tan δ values below the temperature of about 0°C, but showed some apparent differences in the tan δ values increasing in the order CVG′ and tan δ values above Tg higher than those of the gum NR vulcanizates.

High-temperature curing and overcuring cause decreases to various extents in the cure plateau torque, Shore A hardness, 300% modulus and tensile strength, and lead to apparent changes in the DMPs. Typically, there is an increase in Tg of all three kinds of gum and N330-filled NR vulcanizates because of changes in the total crosslink densities and crosslink types. The CV vulcanizates show the most significant change in cure characteristics, physical properties and DMPs since the highest content of polysulfidic crosslinks appears in the CV vulcanizate, causing the highest level of reversion and having a dominant effect on the properties.  相似文献

The effect of types of fillers on mechanical properties of rigid polyurethane composite samples was investigated. Polyurethane (PU) composites were prepared using a molasses polyol (MP, a mixture of molasses and polyethylene glycol, Mw=200) diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and fillers. The following plant particles, bamboo powder, roast bamboo powder, wood meal, coffee grounds, ground coffee bean parchment and cellulose powder, were used as fillers. The mixture of MP and fillers was reacted with MDI by adding an adequate amount of acetone as a solvent. The content of fillers was defined as the ratio of filler weight to total weight of polyol and fillers. The filler content was varied from 10 to 90 wt%. Polyurethane (PU) composites were prepared using fillers with MP. Lengths of major axis and minor axis for each particle regarded as an ellipse were measured using an optical microscope. Averages of diameter and aspect ratio were derived for each plant particle. The relationships between these average values and the mechanical properties, such as strength and elastic modulus, determined by the compression tests were investigated. The effect of filler content was estimated using the apparent volume ratio which is determined as the ratio of the apparent volume of fillers to the reciprocal values of the apparent density of samples. The master curves of the relationships between the specific values of mechanical properties and the apparent volume ratio were obtained. It was found that the compression strength and the elastic modulus for composite samples with different fillers showed maximum values at average aspect ratio around 3. It was also found that the apparent volume ratio, where the mechanical properties showed maximums, decreases with increasing aspect ratio. Using master curves, it is possible to evaluate the mechanical properties of plant particle filled polyurethane composites are described.  相似文献

The carbon–silica dual phase filler (CSDPF) was modified by bis (3‐triethoxy‐silylpropyl) tetrasulphane (Si69) and 1‐allyl‐3‐methyl‐imidazolium chloride (AMI), respectively. The natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates filled with modified CSDPF were fabricated through mechanical mixing followed by a high‐temperature cure process. The impacts of filler surface modification on the curing characters, crosslinked junctions, network structure, and mechanical properties of NR vulcanizates were investigated. The results showed that the Si69 interacted with CSDPF through covalent bond, while the interaction between AMI and CSDPF was hydrogen bond. Both modifications increased the cure rate of CSDPF/NR compounds as well as the crosslinked degree, compared with those of pristine CSDPF/NR compound. The modifications improved the dispersion of CSDPF in NR matrix. The covalent modification by Si69 caused a limited movement of NR chains in the CSDPF surface, which contributed to a greater tensile modulus of Si69‐modified CSDPF/NR. However, the higher content of mono‐sulfidic crosslink and the poorer content of strain‐induced crystallization in the NR matrix led to a slight increase of tensile strength and tear strength of Si69‐modified CSDPF/NR, compared with those of CSDPF/NR. The tensile modulus of AMI‐modified CSDPF/NR had a lower value due to a faster polymer chain motion on the CSDPF surface. However, the tensile and tear strength of AMI‐modified CSDPF/NR increased significantly because of the increase of mono‐sulfidic crosslink, strain‐induced crystallization, and the existed hydrogen bond between CSDPF and NR. Rubber magnetic composites were prepared by incorporation of strontium ferrite into rubber compounds based on acrylonitrile butadiene rubber and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber. The sulfur, peroxide, and mixed sulfur/peroxide curing systems were introduced as cross‐linking agents for rubber matrices. The aim was to investigate the influence of curing system composition on curing process and cross‐link density of composite materials. Then, static and dynamic mechanical properties and thermal and magnetic characteristics were investigated in relation to the cross‐link density of rubber magnetic composites and structure of the formed cross‐links. The changes of dynamical and physicomechanical properties were in close correlation with the change of cross‐link density, whereas the tensile strength of magnetic composites showed increasing trend with increasing amount of peroxide in mixed curing systems. On the other hand, thermal conductivity and magnetic characteristics were found not to be dependent on the curing system composition.  相似文献

Stress concentration and weak interfacial strength affect the mechanical properties of short carbon fibers (CFs) reinforced polymer composites. In this work, the cauliflower-like short carbon fibers (CCFs) were prepared and the point was to illuminate the effects of fiber morphology on the mechanical properties of the CCFs/rigid polyurethane (RPU) composites. The results indicated that the surface structure of CCFs could increase the surface roughness of the fibers and the contact area between fibers and matrix, thereby promoting the formation of irregular interface. Compared with pure RPU and initial CFs/RPU composites, the strength and toughness of CCFs/RPU composites were simultaneously improved. The satisfactory performance was attributed to the special fibers structure, which played an anchoring role and consumed more energy during crack propagation.  相似文献

The present research work aimed to characterize new natural cellulosic kusha fibers extracted from the kusha grass plants. The physical and chemical properties of kusha fibers such as cellulose content (70.58%), lignin (14.35%), wax content (1.52%), ash content (2.46%), moisture content (8.01%), and density (1.1025 g cc?1) were identified. An X-ray diffraction of kusha fibers confirms the presence of cellulose with a crystalline index of 55.4%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis was carried out to establish the certainty of using them as reinforcement fiber. Thermogravimetric analysis ensures thermal stability up to 357°C which is within the polymerization process temperature.  相似文献

The mechanical strength and modulus of chopped carbon fiber (CF)‐reinforced polybenzoxazine composites were investigated by changing the length of CFs. Tensile, compressive, and flexural properties were investigated. The void content was found to be higher for the short fiber composites. With increase in fiber length, tensile strength increased and optimized at around 17 mm fiber length whereas compressive strength exhibited a continuous diminution. The flexural strength too increased with fiber length and optimized at around 17 mm fiber length. The increase in strength of composites with fiber length is attributed to the enhancement in effective contact area of fibers with the matrix. The experimental results showed that there was about 350% increase in flexural strength and 470% increase in tensile strength of the composites with respect to the neat polybenzoxazine, while, compressive properties were adversely affected. The composites exhibited an optimum increase of about 800% in flexural modulus and 200% in tensile modulus. Enhancing the fiber length, leads to fiber entanglement in the composites, resulted in increased plastic deformation at higher strain. Multiple branch matrix shear, debonded fibers and voids were the failures visualized in the microscopic analyses. Defibrillation has been exhibited by all composites irrespective of fiber length. Fiber debonding and breaking were associated with short fibers whereas clustering and defibrillation were the major failure modes in long fiber composites. Increasing fiber loading improved the tensile and flexural properties until 50–60 wt% of fiber whereas the compressive property consistently decreased on fiber loading. The present era uses natural fibers as a partial replacement for synthetic fibers, thereby utilizing eco-friendly materials in a number of automotive applications (namely, bumpers, wind shields, doors, ceilings, etc.). Although there are many research findings related to natural fiber composites, in this work, a new sandwich layer of Cyperus pangorei fibers and jute fiber epoxy hybrid composites is developed using the hand lay-up technique and compared with the pure Cyperus pangorei fiber and pure jute fiber epoxy composites. The mechanical properties like tensile, flexural, compressive, impact, and hardness are performed as per ASTM standards for the developed composites. The test results show that Cyperus pangorei hybrid composite 3 had a tensile strength of 50.2 MPa, flexural strength of 301.48 N mm?2, ultimate compression load of 15.03 KN, impact energy of 6.34 J, and Shore D hardness of 82.7, which are superior by 1.1–1.5 times to all the other developed composites. The microstructural characterizations are performed using scanning electron microscope which played a vital role in analyzing the failure morphology of the composites.  相似文献

The present work aims to prepare thermal and oxidation resistant Natural Rubber (NR) composites using antioxidant-modified nanosilica (MNS). The thermo-oxidative aging performance of the composites was evaluated by the variations in mechanical properties after aging at 100 °C for 24 h. The performance was further monitored through Scanning Electron Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis. NR nanocomposite with 1–7.5 phr nanosilica (NS) and 3 phr MNS were prepared and its rheological properties were studied. A comparative study of the theoretical models yielded that modified Guth-Gold equation predicted Young's modulus better than other models. Thermal stability of natural rubber MNS composite was improved by 10 °C with pre-eminent mechanical properties like tensile strength and heat build-up. A linear relationship of compression set with modulus of all composites were also established. Equilibrium swelling test revealed improved crosslink density in NR MNS composite. The strong interaction between antioxidant and nanosilica enabled low migration of antioxidant in NR MNS composite. Hence its protective function after aging showed more effective than NR NS composites. These versatile functional properties of NR MNS composite suggest its potential application in electrical, electronic and high performance rubber products.  相似文献

In this work, the influence of fiber content and alkali treatment on the mechanical and thermal properties of Acacia leucophloea fiber-reinforced epoxy composites was studied. Ten composite samples were fabricated by varying fiber content (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 wt%); both untreated and treated fiber were soaked in a 5% NaOH solution for 45 min by using hand-layup method. The composite reinforced with 20 wt% treated fiber content exhibited better mechanical properties and thermal properties. Fourier transform infrared analysis, morphological analysis by atomic force microscope, and scanning electron microscope of composites were also performed.  相似文献

Polyurethane composites reinforced with curaua fiber at 5, 10 and 20% mass/mass proportions were prepared by using the conventional melt-mixing method. The influence of curaua fibers on the thermal behavior and polymer cohesiveness in polyurethane matrix was evaluated by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This specific interaction between the fibers and the hard segment domain was influenced by the behavior of the storage modulus E′ and the loss modulus E″ curves. The polyurethane PU80 is much stiffer and resistant than the other composites at low temperatures up to 70°C. All samples were thermoplastic and presented a rubbery plateau over a wide temperature range above the glass transition temperature and a thermoplastic flow around 170°C.  相似文献
