With anodic alumina with an ordered nanopore array used as a template, poly[2‐metoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethyl‐hexyloxy)‐p‐phenylene vinylene] (MEH–PPV) was embedded into the nanopores, and then two‐dimensional arrays of light‐emitting nanopolymers were prepared. By the measurement and analysis of photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation spectra of the samples, it was demonstrated that the optical properties of the nano‐MEH–PPV arrays were obviously different from those of MEH–PPV films. The conformations of the MEH–PPV chains in the nanopores, films, and solutions and their effects on the optical properties were examined. It was determined experimentally that the conformations of the MEH–PPV chains in the solutions were maintained in the nano‐MEH–PPV arrays. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new poly(phenylene vinylene)s containing m‐terphenyl or 2,6‐diphenylpyridine kinked units along the main chain were synthesized and were used as luminescent and laser materials. They were prepared from Heck coupling of 2,5‐didodecyloxy‐1,4‐divinylbenzene with 4,4″‐dibromo‐3′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl or 2,6‐di(4‐bromophenyl)‐4‐phenylpyridine. The kinked units along the main chain caused a partial interruption of the conjugation leading to emission at a shorter wavelength as compared with poly(p‐phenylene vinylene). The polymers presented blue‐green emission in solution and green‐yellow emission in the solid state with photoluminescence maxima at 465–497 and 546–550 nm, respectively. Polymer containing 2,6‐diphenylpyridine segments emitted at a longer wavelength than that containing m‐terphenyl and displayed higher quantum yields in solution (0.61 and 0.40, respectively). The influence of the solvent and polymer concentration on the photoluminescence characteristics was investigated. The photoluminescence properties of protonated polymer containing 2,6‐diphenylpyridine segments were investigated both in solution and in film. Amplified spontaneous emission and tunable laser action were also obtained from the two polymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 2214–2224, 2004  相似文献

Novel polyfluorene copolymers alternately having an 1,3,4‐oxadiazole unit in the main chain were prepared by both one‐step and two‐step methods for polyoxadiazole synthesis. They displayed highly efficient blue photoluminescence, the properties of which were affected by the extent of conjugation and the changes in the electron density by a side chain. An electrochemical analysis of the polymers using cyclic voltammetry suggested that they could be used as electron‐transport/hole‐blocking materials as well as blue emission materials for polymer light‐emitting diodes. A simple double‐layer device consisting of poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) as a hole‐transport layer and poly[(9,9′‐didodecylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)‐alt‐((1,4‐bis(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)‐2,5‐di(2‐ethylhexyloxy)phenylene)‐5,5′‐diyl)] as an emission layer exhibited narrow blue electroluminescence with a maximum at 430 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the present study, a new (E)‐rich‐enyne π‐conjugated polymer containing a carbazole was designed and synthesized. Two different synthesis methods of poly[N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐carbazolyleneethynylene‐(E)‐vinylene] (PCZEV) have been prepared from 3,6‐diethynyl‐9(2‐ethylhexyl)carbazole by using the palladium‐carbene‐catalyzed reaction and/or by using the organolanthanide‐catalyzed reaction leading to well‐defined polymer, and their general properties were studied. Compared to poly[N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐carbazolyleneethynylene] (PCE), the UV‐vis absorption and photoluminescence of the PCZEV was red‐shifted, which indicates the extension of conjugation length. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The presence of cis‐vinylene bonds in Gilch‐polymerized poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethyl‐hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] is reported. Through fractionation, species with a weight‐average molecular weight of less than 37,000 exhibited an abnormal blueshift of photoluminescence spectra in toluene solutions, and this was attributed to the presence of cis‐vinylene bonds, as verified by NMR spectroscopy. Surprisingly, the fractionated species (~1 wt %) with a weight‐average molecular weight of 5000 were mostly linked by the cis‐vinylene bonds. The concentration decreased with the molecular weight until a molecular weight of 37,000 was reached; at that point, the polymer chains contained mainly trans‐vinylene bonds. Obviously, the formation of cis‐vinylene bonds strongly inhibited the growth of polymer chains during Gilch polymerization. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Starting from the pyrylium salt and following a facile synthetic route, we synthesized and polymerized 4,4″‐diiodo‐2′,6′‐di[4‐(2′‐ethylhexyl)oxy]phenyl‐p‐terphenyl with p‐divinylbenzene or p‐diethynylbenzene. The resulting polymers had moderate molecular weights, were amorphous, and dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and chloroform, with glass‐transition temperatures of 120–131 °C. The polymers behaved as violet‐blue‐emitting materials with photoluminescence maxima around 420 and 450 nm in solution and in thin films, respectively. They possessed well‐defined chromophores resulting from steric interactions in the polymer chain. The photoluminescence quantum yields were up to 0.29. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Soluble yellow/orange‐emitting poly[tris(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,3‐phenylenevinylene)] derivatives ( 6 ) were synthesized and characterized. These polymers contained oligo(p‐phenylene vinylene) chromophores of equal conjugation length, which were jointed via a common m‐phenylene unit. An optical comparison of 6 and its model compound ( 8 ) at room temperature and low temperatures revealed the similarity in their absorption and fluorescence band structures. The vibronic band structure of 6 was assigned with the aid of the spectroscopic data for 8 at the low temperatures. 6 was electroluminescent and had an emission maximum wavelength at approximately 565 nm. With the device indium tin oxide/PEDOT/ 6 /Ca configuration, the polymer exhibited an external quantum efficiency as high as 0.25%. Simple substitution on m‐phenylene of 6 raised the electroluminescence output by a factor of about 10. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5853–5862, 2004  相似文献

An investigation into the preparation of poly(9‐alkyl‐9H‐carbazole‐3,6‐diyl)s with palladium catalyzed cross‐coupling reactions of 3‐halo‐6‐halomagnesio‐9‐alkyl‐9H‐carbazoles, generated in situ from their corresponding 3,6‐diiodo‐ and 3,6‐dibromo‐derivatives was undertaken. Monomers with a range of alkyl group substituents with different steric requirements were investigated and their effects on the polymerization were studied. The effects of the nature of halogen substituents on the polymerization reaction were also investigated. Structural analysis of the polymers revealed exclusive 3,6‐linkage between consecutive carbazole repeat units on the polymer chains. The physical properties of these polymers were investigated with spectroscopic, thermal gravimetric analysis, and electrochemical studies. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) derivative containing a bulky (2,2‐diphenylvinyl)phenyl group in the side chain, EHDVP‐PPV, was synthesized by Gilch route. The reduced tolane‐bisbenzyl (TBB) defects, as well as the structure of the polymer, was confirmed by various spectroscopic methods. The intramolecular energy transfer from the (2,2‐diphenylvinyl)phenyl side group to the PPV backbone was studied by UV‐vis and photoluminescence (PL) of the obtained polymer and model compound. The polymer film showed maximum absorption and emission peaks at 454 and 546 nm, respectively, and high PL efficiency of 57%. A yellow electroluminescence (λmax = 548 nm) was obtained with intensities of 6479 cd/m2 when the light‐emitting diodes of ITO/PEDOT/EHDVP‐PPV/LiF/Al were fabricated. The maximum power efficiency of the devices was 0.729 lm/W with a turn‐on voltage of 3.6 V. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5636–5646, 2004  相似文献

The copolymerization of propylene and 3‐buten‐1‐ol protected with alkylaluminum [trimethylaluminum (TMA) or triisobutylaluminum] was conducted with an isospecific zirconocene catalyst [rac‐dimethylsilylbis(1‐indenyl)zirconium dichloride], combined with methylaluminoxane as a cocatalyst, in the presence of additional TMA or H2 as the chain‐transfer reagent if necessary. The results indicated that end‐hydroxylated polypropylene was obtained in the presence of the chain‐transfer reagents because of the formation of dormant species after the insertion of the 3‐buten‐1‐ol‐based monomer followed by chain‐transfer reactions. The selectivity of the chain‐transfer reactions was influenced by the alkylaluminum protecting the comonomer and the catalyst structure. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new biodegradable starch graft copolymer, starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one), was synthesized through the ring‐opening graft polymerization of 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one onto a starch backbone. The grafting reactions were conducted with various 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one/starch feed ratios to obtain starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) copolymers with various poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) graft structures. The microstructure of starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) was characterized in detail with one‐ and two‐dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The effect of the feed composition on the resulting microstructure of starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) was investigated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel copolymer, poly(N‐hexyl‐3,7‐phenothiazylene‐1,2‐ethenylene‐2,6‐pyridylene‐1,2‐ethenylene) ( P3 ), containing N‐hexyl‐3,7‐phenothiazylene and 2,6‐pyridylene chromophores was synthesized to investigate the effect of protonation, metal complexation, and chemical oxidation on its absorption and photoluminescence (PL). Poly(N‐hexyl‐3,8‐iminodibenzyl‐1,2‐ethenylene‐1,3‐phenylene‐1,2‐ethenylene) and poly(N‐hexyl‐3,7‐phenothiazylene‐1,2‐ethenylene‐1,3‐phenylene‐1,2‐ethenylene) ( P2 ), consisting of 1,3‐divinylbenzene alternated with N‐hexyl‐3,8‐iminodibenzyl and N‐hexyl‐3,7‐phenothiazylene, respectively, were also prepared for comparison. Electrochemical investigations revealed that P3 exhibited lower band gaps (2.34 eV) due to alternating donor and acceptor conjugated units (push–pull structure). The absorption and PL spectral variations of P3 were easily manipulated by protonation, metal chelation, and chemical oxidation. P3 displayed significant bathochromic shifts when protonated with trifluoroacetic acid in chloroform. The complexation of P3 with Fe3+ led to a significant absorption change and fluorescence quenching, and this implied the coordination of ferric ions with the 2,6‐pyridylene groups in the backbone. Moreover, both phenothiazylene‐containing P2 and P3 showed conspicuous PL quenching with a slight redshift when oxidized with NOBF4. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new graft copolymer, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) ‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone), was prepared by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with coordination‐insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was carried out at 60 °C in the presence of 2‐phenylprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate (PPDTB) using AIBN as initiator. The molecular weight of poly (2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) [poly(HEMA‐co‐St)] increased with the monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distribution was in the range of 1.09 ~ 1.39. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ?‐caprolactone was then initiated by the hydroxyl groups of the poly(HEMA‐co‐St) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). GPC and 1H‐NMR data demonstrated the polymerization courses are under control, and nearly all hydroxyl groups took part in the initiation. The efficiency of grafting was very high. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5523–5529, 2004  相似文献

To study the effect of nonconjugation on polymeric and photophysical properties of thiophene‐containing polymers, new light‐emitting copolymers comprising either alternate 2,5‐diphenylthiophene and vinylene or alternate 2,5‐diphenylthiophene and aliphatic ether segments were synthesized. Both copolymers contained 2,5‐diphenylthiophene as the major chromophore and emitted a sky bluish fluorescence in dilute solution (10?2 mg/mL). With a rigid and planarity structure and the concomitant crystallinity, the former copolymer (fully conjugated) possessed a higher quantum efficiency, a higher glass‐transition temperature, and a better thermal stability. In contrast, the latter copolymer (conjugated–nonconjugated) had better solubility and provided enhanced photophysical properties for the fabricated polymeric light‐emitting diode (PLED) device: at 15 V, the maximum current and brightness were 110 mA/cm2 and 4289 cd/m2, respectively, and the electroluminescence efficiency remained constant at approximately 4.9 cd/A in a voltage range of 8 to 14 V. The existence of intramolecular/intermolecular aggregates in the latter copolymer was corroborated from the the UV–vis and photoluminescence spectra of its solutions. With an increase in solution concentration, the shape and λmax of the photoluminescence spectrum were redshifted. In a solution with a concentration as high as 10 mg/mL, the redshift was so drastic that the photoluminescence spectrum was nearly identical to that of a solid‐film. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple synthetic route was used for the synthesis of a novel series of alternating copolymers based on substituted 2,7‐distyrylfluorene bridged through alkylene chains. First, 2,7‐dibromofluorene was reacted with 2 equiv of butyllithium, and this was followed by a treatment with 1 equiv of α,ω‐dibromoalkane to yield the intermediate, poly(2,7‐dibromofluorene‐9,9‐diyl‐alt‐alkane‐α,ω‐diyl). ( 1 ) Heck coupling of the latter with 1‐tert‐butyl‐4‐vinylbenzene afforded the target, poly[2,7‐bis(4‐tert‐butylstyryl)fluorene‐9,9‐diyl‐alt‐alkane‐α,ω‐diyl] ( 2 ). The two versions of 2 ( 2a and 2b which have hexane and decane, respectively, as alkane groups) were readily soluble in common organic solvents. Their glass‐transition temperature was relatively low (52 and 87 °C). An intense blue photoluminescence emission with maxima at about 408 and 409 nm was observed in tetrahydrofuran solutions, whereas thin films exhibited an orange emission with maxima at 569 and 588 nm. Very large redshifts of the photoluminescence maxima and Stokes shifts in thin films indicated strong aggregation in the solid state. Both polymers oxidized and reduced irreversibly. Single‐layer light‐emitting diodes with hole‐injecting indium tin oxide and electron‐injecting aluminum electrodes were fabricated. They emitted orange light with external electroluminescence efficiencies of 0.52 and 0.36% photon/electron, as determined in light‐emitting diodes made of 2a and 2b , with alkylenes of (CH2)6 and (CH2)10, respectively. An increase in the external electroluminescence efficiency up to 1.5% was reached in light‐emitting diodes made of polymer blends consisting of 2a and poly(9,9‐dihexadecylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl), which emitted blue‐white light. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Coating of silica nanoparticles by biocompatible and biodegradable polymers of ε‐caprolactone and L ‐lactide was performed in situ by ring‐opening polymerization of the cyclic monomers with aluminum, yttrium, and tin alkoxides as catalysts. Hydroxyl groups were introduced on the silica surface by grafting of a prehydrolyzed 3‐glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane to initiate a catalytic polymerization in the presence of metal alkoxides. In this manner, free polymer chains were formed to grafted ones, and the graft density was controlled by the nature of the metal and the alcohol‐to‐metal ratio. The grafting reaction was extensively characterized by spectroscopic techniques and quantified. Nanocomposites containing up to 96% of polymer were obtained by this technique. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1976–1984, 2004  相似文献

Novel sulfonated polyimides (SPIs) were prepared from 1,4,5,8‐naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (NTDA), 2,2′‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)biphenyl‐5,5′‐disulfonic acid (oBAPBDS) with nonlinear configuration, and common nonsulfonated diamines. Water uptake (WU) in liquid and vapor, water stability, and proton conductivity σ of the resulting SPI membranes were investigated. They were soluble in m‐cresol and dimethylsulfoxide, and their WUs in liquid were much larger than those of the SPIs from other sulfonated diamines with linear configuration such as 4,4′‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)biphenyl‐3,3′‐disulfonic acid (BAPBDS). NTDA‐oBAPBDS membrane was soluble in water at room temperature, whereas all the oBAPBDS‐based copolyimide membranes were insoluble in water and maintained mechanical strength after being soaked in distilled water at 80 °C for 40–1000 h. This much improved water stability was due to the enhanced solubility stability of membrane toward water. The water vapor sorption isotherms were rather similar between the SPIs with the nonlinear and linear configurations of sulfonated diamine moieties. The present SPIs with IECs of 1.8–2.6 meq/g, including NTDA‐BAPBDS, showed reasonably high proton conductivities under the highly humid conditions and roughly fell on the same σ–WU relation line. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nonaqueous dispersion polymerization of styrene in methanol with poly[(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐vinyltriethylbenzyl ammonium bromide)]‐b‐polyisobutene as a stabilizer was investigated. There was no observable inducing period or autoacceleration in the polymerization process. The conversion increased almost linearly with the polymerization time as high as 80%. The average sizes of the obtained polystyrene particles increased, and the size distributions of the polystyrene particles tended to become narrower, with increasing conversion. The mechanism of the dispersion polymerization in the presence of polyisobutene‐b‐poly[(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐vinyltriethylbenzyl ammonium bromide)] was nucleation/growth. When the stabilizer/monomer ratio (w/w) was greater than 2.0%, the polystyrene dispersion was stable, and there was no observable polymer particle coagulation taking place during the whole polymerization process. The average diameter of the polymer particles can be mediated through changes in the polymerization conversion, monomer, and stabilizer. Nearly monodispersed polystyrene particles with average diameters of approximately 0.45–2.21 μm were obtained under optimal conditions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐p‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH‐PPV) with a molar mass of 26–47 × 104 g mol?1 and a polydispersity of 2.5–3.2 was synthesized by a liquid–solid two‐phase reaction. The liquid phase was tetrahydrofuran (THF) containing 1,4‐bis(chloromethyl)‐2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)benzene as the monomer and a certain amount of tetrabutylammonium bromide as a phase‐transfer catalyst. The solid phase consisted of potassium hydroxide particles with diameters smaller than 0.5 mm. The reaction was carried out at a low temperature of 0 °C and under nitrogen protection. No gelation was observed during the polymerization process, and the polymer was soluble in the usual organic solvents, such as chloroform, toluene, THF, and xylene. A polymer light‐emitting diode was fabricated with MEH‐PPV as an active luminescent layer. The device had an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxylthiophene) (PEDOT)/MEH‐PPV/Ba/Al configuration. It showed a turn‐on voltage of 3.3 V, a luminescence intensity at 6.1 V of 550 cd/m2, a luminescence efficiency of 0.43 cd/A, and a quantum efficiency of 0.57%. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A set of poly[ω‐(4′‐cyano‐4‐biphenyloxy)alkyl‐1‐glycidylether]s were synthesized by the chemical modification of the corresponding poly(ω‐bromoalkyl‐1‐glycidylether)s with the sodium salt of 4‐cyano‐4′‐hydroxybiphenyl. New high‐molecular‐weight side‐chain liquid‐crystalline polymers were obtained with excellent yield and almost quantitative degree of modification. All side‐chain liquid‐crystalline polymers were rubbers soluble in tetrahydrofuran. The characterization by 1H and 13C NMR revealed no changes in the regioregular isotactic microstructure of the starting polymer and the absence of undesirable side reactions such as deshydrobromination. The liquid crystalline behavior was analyzed by DSC and polarized optical microscopy, and mesophase assignments were confirmed by X‐ray diffraction. Polymers that had alkyl spacers with n = 2 and 4 were nematic, those that had spacers with n = 6 and 8 were nematic cybotactic, and those that had longer spacers (n = 10 and 12) were smectic C and showed some crystallization of the side alkyl chains. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
