A trifunctional initiator, 2‐phenyl‐2‐[(2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl)‐1‐piperidinyloxy] ethyl 2,2‐bis[methyl(2‐bromopropionato)] propionate, was synthesized and used for the synthesis of miktoarm star AB2 and miktoarm star block AB2C2 copolymers via a combination of stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in a two‐step or three‐step reaction sequence, respectively. In the first step, a polystyrene (PSt) macroinitiator with dual ω‐bromo functionality was obtained by SFRP of styrene (St) in bulk at 125 °C. Next, this PSt precursor was used as a macroinitiator for ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) in the presence of Cu(I)Br and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine at 80 °C, affording miktoarm star (PSt)(PtBA)2 [where PtBA is poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)]. In the third step, the obtained St(tBA)2 macroinitiator with two terminal bromine groups was further polymerized with methyl methacrylate by ATRP, and this resulted in (PSt)(PtBA)2(PMMA)2‐type miktoarm star block copolymer [where PMMA is poly(methyl methacrylate)] with a controlled molecular weight and a moderate polydispersity (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.38). All polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 2542–2548, 2003  相似文献

Well‐defined AB3‐type miktoarm star‐shaped polymers with cholic acid (CA) core were fabricated with a combination of “click” chemistry and ring opening polymerization (ROP) methods. Firstly, azide end‐functional poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) polymers were prepared via controlled polymerization and chemical modification methods. Then, CA moieties containing three OH groups were introduced to these polymers as the end groups via Cu(I)‐catalyzed click reaction between azide end‐functional groups of the polymers ( mPEG‐N3 , PMMA‐N3 , PS‐N3 , and PCL‐N3 ) and ethynyl‐functional CA under ambient conditions, yielding CA end‐functional polymers ( mPEG‐Cholic , PMMA‐Cholic , PS‐Cholic , and PCL‐Cholic ). Finally, the obtained CA end‐capped polymers were employed as the macroinitiators in the ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) yielding AB3‐type miktoarm star polymers ( mPEG‐Cholic‐PCL3 , PMMA‐Cholic‐PCL3 , and PS‐Cholic‐PCL3 ) and asymmetric star polymer [ Cholic‐(PCL)4 ]. The chemical structures of the obtained intermediates and polymers were confirmed via Fourier transform infrared and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques. Thermal decomposition behaviors and phase transitions were studied in detail using thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry experiments. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. An ABC‐type miktoarm star polymer was prepared with a core‐out method via a combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP), stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP), and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, ROP of ϵ‐caprolactone was carried out with a miktofunctional initiator, 2‐(2‐bromo‐2‐methyl‐propionyloxymethyl)‐3‐hydroxy‐2‐methyl‐propionic acid 2‐phenyl‐2‐(2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐piperidin‐1‐yl oxy)‐ethyl ester, at 110 °C. Second, previously obtained poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) (PCL) was used as a macroinitiator for SFRP of styrene at 125 °C. As a third step, this PCL–polystyrene (PSt) precursor with a bromine functionality in the core was used as a macroinitiator for ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate in the presence of Cu(I)Br and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine at 100 °C. This produced an ABC‐type miktoarm star polymer [PCL–PSt–poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)] with a controlled molecular weight and a moderate polydispersity (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.37). The obtained polymers were characterized with gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 4228–4236, 2004  相似文献

Three controlled/living polymerization processes, namely atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and iniferter polymerization, and photoinduced radical coupling reaction were combined for the preparation of ABCBD‐type H‐shaped complex copolymer. First, α‐benzophenone functional polystyrene (BP‐PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (BP‐PMMA) were prepared independently by ATRP. The resulting polymers were irradiated to form ketyl radicals by hydrogen abstraction of the excited benzophenone moieties present at each chain end. Coupling of these radicals resulted in the formation of polystyrene‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS‐b‐PMMA) with benzpinacole structure at the junction point possessing both hydroxyl and iniferter functionalities. ROP of ε‐caprolactone (CL) by using PS‐b‐PMMA as bifunctional initiator, in the presence of stannous octoate yielded the corresponding tetrablock copolymer, PCL‐PS‐PMMA‐PCL. Finally, the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) via iniferter process gave the targeted H‐shaped block copolymer. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Amphiphilic diblock copolymer polycaprolactone‐block‐poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PCL‐b‐PGMA) was synthesized via enzymatic ring‐opening polymerization (eROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Methanol first initiated eROP of ?‐caprolactone (?‐CL) in the presence of biocatalyst Novozyme‐435 under anhydrous conditions. The resulting monohydroxyl‐terminated polycaprolactone (PCL–OH) was subsequently converted to a bromine‐ended macroinitiator (PCL–Br) for ATRP by esterification with α‐bromopropionyl bromide. PCL‐b‐PGMA diblock copolymers were synthesized in a subsequent ATRP of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). A kinetic analysis of ATRP indicated a living/controlled radical process. The macromolecular structures were characterized for PCL–OH, PCL–Br, and the block copolymers by means of nuclear magnetic resonance, gel permeation chromatography, and infrared spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction analyses indicated that the copolymer composition (?‐CL/GMA) had a great influence on the thermal properties. The well‐defined, amphiphilic diblock copolymer PCL‐b‐PGMA self‐assembled into nanoscale micelles in aqueous solutions, as investigated by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study reports an application of trichloroethanol (TCE) as a bifunctional initiator for the synthesis of block copolymers (BCPs) by organocatalyzed ring‐opening polymerization (OROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). TCE was employed to synthesize a low dispersity poly (valerolactone) macroinitiator, which was subsequently used for the ATRP of tert‐butyl methacrylate. While it is known that TCE can serve as an initiator in ATRP, the ability to induce polymerization under OROP is reported for the first time. The formation of well‐defined BCPs was confirmed by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. Computational studies were performed to obtain a molecular‐level understanding of the ring‐opening polymerization mechanism involving TCE as initiator. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Novel and well‐defined dendrimer‐star, block‐comb polymers were successfully achieved by the combination of living ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization on the basis of a dendrimer polyester. Star‐shaped dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)s were synthesized by the bulk polymerization of ?‐caprolactone with a dendrimer initiator and tin 2‐ethylhexanoate as a catalyst. The molecular weights of the dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)s increased linearly with an increase in the monomer. The dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)s were converted into macroinitiators via esterification with 2‐bromopropionyl bromide. The star‐block copolymer dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) was obtained by the atom transfer radical polymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate. The molecular weights of these copolymers were adjusted by the variation of the monomer conversion. Then, dendrimer‐star, block‐comb copolymers were prepared with poly(L ‐lactide) blocks grafted from poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) blocks by the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide. The unique and well‐defined structure of these copolymers presented thermal properties that were different from those of linear poly(?‐caprolactone). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of A4B4 miktoarm star copolymers, where A is polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) and B is polystyrene (PSt), was accomplished with orthogonal initiators and consecutive cationic ring‐opening polymerization (CROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The compound formed in situ from the reaction of 3‐{2,2‐bis[2‐bromo‐2‐(chlorocarbonyl) ethoxy] methyl‐3‐(2‐chlorocarbonyl) ethoxy} propoxyl‐2‐bromopropanoyl chloride [C(CH2OCH2CHBrCOCl)4] with silver perchlorate was used to initiate the CROP of tetrahydrofuran. The obtained polymer contained four secondary bromine groups at the α position to the original initiator sites and was used to initiate the ATRP of styrene with a CuBr/2,2′‐bipyridine catalyst to form a C(PTHF)4(PSt)4 miktoarm star copolymer. The miktoarm copolymer was characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. The macroinitiator C(PTHF)4Br4 was hydrolyzed to afford PTHF arms. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A dual initiator (4‐hydroxy‐butyl‐2‐bromoisobutyrate), that is, a molecule containing two functional groups capable of initiating two polymerizations occurring by different mechanisms, has been prepared. It has been used for the sequential two‐step synthesis of well‐defined block copolymers of polystyrene (PS) and poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTHF) by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and cationic ring‐opening polymerization (CROP). This dual initiator contains a bromoisobutyrate group, which is an efficient initiator for the ATRP of styrene in combination with the Cu(0)/Cu(II)/N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine catalyst system. In this way, PS with hydroxyl groups (PS‐OH) is formed. The in situ reaction of the hydroxyl groups originating from the dual initiator with trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride gives a triflate ester initiating group for the CROP of tetrahydrofuran (THF), leading to PTHF with a tertiary bromide end group (PTHF‐Br). PS‐OH and PTHF‐Br homopolymers have been applied as macroinitiators for the CROP of THF and the ATRP of styrene, respectively. PS‐OH, used as a macroinitiator, results in a mixture of the block copolymer and remaining macroinitiator. With PTHF‐Br as a macroinitiator for the ATRP of styrene, well‐defined PTHF‐b‐PS block copolymers can be prepared. The efficiency of PS‐OH or PTHF‐Br as a macroinitiator has been investigated with matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and NMR. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel hexafunctional discotic initiator, 2,3,6,7,11,12‐hexakis(2‐bromobutyryloxy)triphenylene (HBTP), was synthesized by the esterification of 2,3,6,7,11,12‐hexahydroxytriphenylene with 2‐bromobutyryl chloride. Atom transfer radical polymerizations of styrene, methyl acrylate, and n‐butyl acrylate were carried out in 50 vol % tetrahydrofuran with HBTP/copper(I) bromide/2,2′‐bipyridyl as an initiation system. The polymers produced had well‐controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (<1.2). On the basis of 1H NMR spectra of the star polymer and its hydrolyzed products, we can conclude that the initiator quantitatively initiated the polymerization of vinyl monomers and that a star polymer with a discotic core was obtained. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The self‐assembling nature and phase‐transition behavior of a novel class of triarm, star‐shaped polymer–peptide block copolymers synthesized by the combination of atom transfer radical polymerization and living ring‐opening polymerization of α‐amino acid‐N‐carboxyanhydride are demonstrated. The two‐step synthesis strategy adopted here allows incorporating polypeptides into the usual synthetic polymers via an amido–amidate nickelacycle intermediate, which is used as the macroinitiator for the growth of poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate). The characterization data are reported from analyses using gel permeation chromatography and infrared, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. This synthetic scheme grants a facile way to prepare a wide range of polymer–peptide architectures with perfect microstructure control, preventing the formation of homopolypeptide contaminants. Studies regarding the supramolecular organization and phase‐transition behavior of this class of polymer‐block‐polypeptide copolymers have been accomplished with X‐ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and thermal analyses. The conformational change of the peptide segment in the block copolymer has been investigated with variable‐temperature infrared spectroscopy. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. H‐shaped ABCAB terpolymers composed of polystyrene (PS) (A), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) (B), and poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) (C) were prepared by atom transfer radical coupling reaction using ABC star terpolymers as precursors, CuBr and N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as catalysts, and nanosize copper as the reducing agent. The synthesis of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer PS‐PEO‐(PtBA‐Br) involved following steps: (1) the preparation of PS with an active and an ethoxyethyl‐ptotected hydroxyl group at the same end; (2) the preparation of diblock copolymer PS‐b‐PEO with ethoxyethyl‐protected group at the junction point through the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of EO; (3) after de‐protection of ethoxyethyl group and further modification of hydroxyl group, tBA was polymerized by atom transfer radical polymerization using PS‐b‐PEO with 2‐bromoisobutyryl functional group as macroinitiator. The H‐shaped terpolymer could be successfully formed by atom transfer radical coupling reaction in the presence of small quantity of styrene, CuBr/PMDETA, and Cu at 90 °C. The copolymers were characterized by SEC, 1H NMR, and FTIR in detail. The optimized coupling temperature is 90 °C. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) were combined to synthesize poly(?‐caprolactone‐co‐octadecyl methacrylate‐co‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) copolymers possessing a triblock or random block structure. Various synthetic pathways (sequential or simultaneous approaches) were investigated for the synthesis of both copolymers. For the preparation of these copolymers, an initiator with dual functionality for ATRP/anionic ring‐opening polymerization, 2‐hydroxyethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate, was used. Copolymers were prepared with good structural control and low polydispersities (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.2), but one limitation was identified: the dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) block had to be synthesized after the ?‐caprolactone block. ROP could not proceed in the presence of DMAEMA because the complexation of the amine groups in poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) deactivated tin(II) hexanoate, which was used as a catalyst for ROP. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) star polymer with a microgel core was prepared by atom transfer radical poylmerization (ATRP) of divinyl benzene (DVB) with mono‐2‐bromoisobutyryl PEO ester as a macroinitiator. Several factors, such as the feed ratio of DVB to the initiator, type of catalysts, and purity of DVB, play important roles during star formation. The crosslinked poly(divinyl benzene) (PDVB) core was further obtained by the hydrolysis of PEO star to remove PEO arms. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) traces revealed the bare core has a broad molecular weight distribution. PEO–polystyrene (PS) heteroarm star polymer was synthesized through grafting PS from the core of PEO star by another ATRP of styrene (St) because of the presence of initiating groups in the core inherited from PEO star. Characterizations by SEC, 1H NMR, and DSC revealed the successful preparation of the target star copolymers. Scanning electron microscopy images suggested that PEO–PS heteroarm star can form spherical micelles in water/tetrahydrofuran mixture solvents, which further demonstrated the amphiphilic nature of the star polymer. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined amphiphilic PCL‐b‐(PDMA)2 and (PCL)2b‐PDMA Y‐shaped miktoarm star copolymers and PCL‐b‐PDMA linear diblock copolymer were synthesized via a combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), where PCL is poly (ε‐caprolactone) and PDMA is poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate). All of these three types of copolymers have comparable PCL contents and overall molecular weights. The PCL block is hydrophobic while the PDMA block is hydrophilic, and they behave like polymeric surfactants and self‐assemble into PCL‐core micelles in aqueous media. The chain architectural effects on the micellization properties, including the aggregation number, size, polydispersity, and micelle densities of (PCL29)2b‐PDMA45, PCL61b‐(PDMA24)2, and PCL56b‐PDMA49 in dilute aqueous solution, were then explored by dynamic and static laser light scattering (LLS). The intensity–average hydrodynamic radius, 〈Rh〉, the aggregation number per micelle, Nagg, and the core radius, Rcore, of the PCL‐core micelles all increased in the order PCL61b‐(PDMA24)2 < (PCL29)2b‐PDMA45 < PCL56b‐PDMA49. The surface area occupied per soluble PDMA block at the core/corona interface increased in the order PCL61b‐(PDMA24)2 < PCL56b‐PDMA49 < (PCL29)2b‐PDMA45. PCL61b‐(PDMA24)2 micelles had the largest overall micelle density, possibly because of that the presence of two soluble PDMA arms at the junction point favors the bending of the core–corona interface and thus the formation of densely‐packed core‐shell nanostructures. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A combination of ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and click chemistry approach is first time utilized in the preparation of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer. The bromide end‐functionality of monotelechelic poly(N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide) (PNBONI‐Br) is first transformed to azide and then reacted with polystyrene‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer with alkyne at the junction point (PS‐b‐PMMA‐alkyne) via click chemistry strategy, producing PS‐PMMA‐PNBONI 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer. PNBONI‐Br was prepared by ROMP of N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide (NBONI) 1 in the presence of (Z)‐but‐2‐ene‐1,4‐diyl bis(2‐bromopropanoate) 2 as terminating agent. PS‐b‐PMMA‐alkyne copolymer was prepared successively via nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP) of St and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MMA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4μ‐A2B2 star‐shaped copolymers contained polystyrene (PS), poly(isoprene) (PI), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) arms were synthesized by a combination of Glaser coupling with living anionic polymerization (LAP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). Firstly, the functionalized PS or PI with an alkyne group and a protected hydroxyl group at the same end were synthesized by LAP and then modified by propargyl bromide. Subsequently, the macro‐initiator PS or PI with two active hydroxyl groups at the junction point were synthesized by Glaser coupling in the presence of pyridine/CuBr/N,N,N ′,N ″,N ″‐penta‐methyl diethylenetri‐amine (PMDETA) system and followed by hydrolysis of protected hydroxyl groups. Finally, the ROP of EO and ε‐CL monomers was carried out using diphenylmethyl potassium (DPMK) and tin(II)‐bis(2‐ethylhexanoate) (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst for target star‐shaped copolymers, respectively. These copolymers and their intermediates were well characterized by SEC, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF mass spectra and FT‐IR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined organic/inorganic hybrid fluorinated star polymers were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of 2,2,3,4,4,4‐hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFBMA) using octa(aminophenyl)silsesquioxane (OAPS) nano‐cage as initiator. For this purpose, OAPS was transformed into ATRP initiator by reacting with 2‐bromoisobutyrylbromide. ATR polymerization of HFBMA was carried out in trifluorotoluene at 75 °C using CuCl/2,2‐bipyridine or N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalyst system. GPC and 1H NMR data confirmed the synthesis of OAPS/PHFBMA hybrid star polymer. Kinetics of the ATR polymerization of HFBMA using OAPS nano‐cage initiator was also investigated. The OAPS/PHFBMA hybrid stars were found to be molecularly dispersed in solution (THF); however, TEM micrographs revealed the formation of spherical particles of ~ 120–180 nm by the OAPS/PHFBMA hybrid star polymer after solvent evaporation. Thermal characterization of the nanocomposites by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed a slightly higher glass transition temperature (Tg) (when compared with the linear PHFBMA) of higher molecular weight OAPS/PHFBMA hybrid star polymers. In contrast, lower Tg than the linear PHFBMA was observed for OAPS/PHFBMA of relatively lower molecular weight (but higher than the linear PHFBMA). Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed a significant retardation (by ~60 °C) in thermal decomposition of nanocomposites when compared with the linear PHFBMA. Additionally, surface properties were evaluated by measuring the contact angles of water on polymer surfaces. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of A3‐type star poly(methylmethacrylate)/clay nanocomposites is prepared by in situ atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiated from organomodified montmorillonite containing quaternary trifunctional ATRP initiator. The first order kinetic plot shows a linear behavior, indicating the controlled character of the polymerization. The resulting nanocomposites are characterized by spectroscopic (XRD), thermal (DSC and TGA), and microscopic (TEM) analyses. The exfoliated nanocomposite has been obtained when polymerization was conducted with 1% of organic clay loading. Thermal analyses show that all nanocomposites have higher glass transition values and thermal stabilities compared to neat polymer. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym.
