Copolymers were synthesized through the chemically oxidative polymerization of N‐ethylaniline (EA) and aniline (AN) in five acid aqueous media. The polymerization yield, intrinsic viscosity, molecular weight, solubility, solvatochromism, electrical conductivity, and mechanical properties of the copolymer films were systematically studied through changes in the comonomer ratio, polymerization temperature, oxidant, oxidant/monomer ratio, and acid medium. Open‐circuit‐potential and temperature measurements of the polymerization solutions showed that the polymerization rate depended on the EA content, and the polymerization was an exothermic reaction. The resultant copolymers were characterized in detail with IR, ultraviolet–visible, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, wide‐angle X‐ray diffractometry, and scanning electron microscopy. The reactivity ratios of the monomer pair were calculated from the 1H NMR spectra of the copolymers formed at a low conversion. The polymers exhibited good solubility and interesting solvatochromism in most of the solvents and variable conductivity with the EA/AN ratio and doping state. The conductivity of the HCl‐doped copolymers increased monotonically from 5.61 × 10?7 to 2.55 × 10?1 S/cm with decreasing EA content from 100 to 0 mol % and showed a percolation transition between EA concentrations of 20 and 30 mol %. The EA/AN copolymers also had excellent film formability and flexibility together with high mechanical and oxygen‐enriching properties. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymer nanoparticles from aniline (AN) and 4‐sulfonic diphenylamine (SDP) were simply synthesized for the first time by an oxidative precipitation polymerization with inorganic oxidants in an acidic aqueous medium without any external emulsifier or stabilizer. The polymerization yield, intrinsic viscosity, solubility, solvatochromism, electrical conductivity, and thermal stability of the copolymers were systematically studied through changes in the AN/SDP ratio, polymerization temperature, oxidant species, monomer/oxidant ratio, and acidic medium. The molecular structure of the copolymers was characterized with elemental analysis, IR, and ultraviolet–visible spectra. The polymers exhibited very good solubility in polar solvents, water, and NH4OH, and this was mainly attributable to the presence of sulfonic acid side groups. The electrical conductivity of the copolymers increased greatly, from 6.00 × 10?4 to 2.55 × 10?1 S/cm, with increasing AN content. The size of the copolymer particles, determined by laser particle analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM), strongly depended on the polymer state and oxidant/monomer ratio. Pure dedoped particles of the AN/SDP (50/50) copolymer at an oxidant/monomer ratio of 1/2 exhibited minimum length/diameter ratios of 62/44 and 45/30 nm by AFM and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The copolymers showed typical four‐step weight‐loss behavior in nitrogen and air and higher thermostability in nitrogen. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of copolymers were easily synthesized via the chemical oxidative polymerization of 2‐pyridylamine (2PA) and aniline (AN) in an acidic aqueous medium. The yield, intrinsic viscosity, and solubility of the copolymers were studied through changes in the 2PA/AN molar ratio, polymerization temperature, oxidant, oxidant/monomer molar ratio, and polymerization medium. The resulting 2PA/AN copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric techniques. The results showed that the oxidative copolymerization from 2PA and AN was exothermic. The resultant copolymers were amorphous and exhibited enhanced solubility in comparison with polyaniline. The 2PA/AN copolymers showed the highest decomposition temperature (530 °C), the slowest maximum‐weight‐loss rate (1.2 %/min), the largest char yield (45 wt %), and the greatest degradation activation energy (65 kJ/mol) in nitrogen. The thermostability of the copolymers was generally higher in nitrogen than in air. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 4407–4418, 2000  相似文献

A new series of alkoxy‐substituted poly(p‐phenylene 1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s modified by the insertion of small percentages of various comonomers were synthesized through the precursor polyhydrazides. The comonomers used contained trans double bonds or meta‐alkoxy‐substituted aromatic rings to improve the solubility of the final polymers. The synthesized copolymers were chemically characterized by 1H NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In some cases, the copolymers really showed improved solubility in organic solvents. The 15N solid‐state NMR technique was applied to examine the degree of conversion from the precursor polyhydrazides to the final polymers, which determined the effective conjugated length in the target polyoxadiazoles. Thermal stability and structural characteristics of all the polymers as well as a preliminary investigation on the optical properties of polyoxadiazoles are also reported. The copolymers retained high absorbance in the UV region and high transmission in the whole telecommunication range. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of terpolymers were synthesized by the chemical oxidative polymerization of m‐phenylenediamine (MPD), o‐anisidine (AS), and 2,3‐xylidine (XY) in hydrochloride aqueous medium. The yield, intrinsic viscosity, and solubility of the terpolymers were studied by changing the MPD/AS/XY molar ratio from 100/0/0 to 53/39/8 to 0/100/0. It was discovered that the MPD/AS/XY terpolymers exhibit a higher polymerization yield and better solubility than MPD/AS and MPD/XY bipolymers having the same MPD molar content. The as‐prepared MPD/AS/XY terpolymer bases were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible, 1H NMR, and high‐resolution solid‐state 13C NMR spectroscopies; wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction; and thermogravimetry. The results suggested that the oxidative polymerization from MPD, AS, and XY is exothermic, and the resulting terpolymers are more easily soluble in some organic solvents than MPD homopolymer. The copolymer obtained was a real terpolymer containing MPD, AS, and XY units, and the actual MPD/AS/XY molar ratio calculated by solid‐state 13C NMR spectra of the polymers is very close to the feed ratio, although the AS content calculated on the basis of the 1H NMR spectrum of the soluble part of the polymer is higher than the feed AS content. The terpolymers and MPD homopolymer exhibit a higher polymerization yield and much higher intrinsic viscosity and are more amorphous than the AS homopolymer. At a fixed MPD content of 70 mol %, the terpolymers exhibit an increased thermostability and activation energy of the major degradation in nitrogen and air with an increasing AS content. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A surface‐active p‐vinyl benzyloxy‐ω‐hydroxy‐poly(ethylene oxide) macromonomer containing 22 pendant structural units of ethylene oxide (St–PEO22) was synthesized with an initiation method. Because of its solubility in a large variety of solvents, the free‐radical copolymerization with electron‐acceptor N‐phenylmaleimide (NPMI) was performed at 60 °C in benzene and tetrahydrofuran (THF) as isotropic media and in a water–THF mixture or water as a heterogeneous medium. Oil‐soluble 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile and water‐soluble 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanovaleric acid) were used as the initiators at fixed concentrations. Two different St–PEO22/NPMI comonomer ratios (1/1 and 3/7) at a fixed total comonomer concentration in the polymerization system were used. The structures, compositions, and microstructure peculiarities of the obtained alternating, amphiphilic, comblike copolymers were determined by NMR analysis. For the copolymers synthesized in hydrophilic media, differential scanning calorimetry showed, near the endothermic peak attributed to the melting of the poly(ethylene oxide) side chains, the presence of a second peak due to the partially ordered phase that could exist between the crystalline state and the isotropic melt. Also, the thermal stability of the obtained copolymers was studied with thermogravimetric analysis. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 479–492, 2005  相似文献

Hyperbranched poly(ether nitrile)s were prepared from a novel AB2 type monomer, 2‐chloro‐4‐(3,5‐dihydroxyphenoxy)benzonitrile, via nucleophilic aromatic substitution. Soluble and low‐viscous hyperbranched polymers with molecular weights upto 233,600 (Mw) were isolated. According to the 1H NMR and GPC data, the unique polymerization behavior was observed, which implies that the weight average molecular weight increased after the number average molecular weight reached plateau region. Model compounds were prepared to characterize the branching structure. Spectroscopic measurements of the model compounds and the resulting polymers, such as 1H, DEPT 13C NMR, and MS, strongly suggest that the ether exchange reaction and cyclization are involved in the propagation reaction. The side reactions would affect the unique polymerization behavior. The resulting polymers showed a good solubility in organic solvents similar to other hyperbranched aromatic polymers. The hydroxy‐terminated polymer was even soluble in basic water. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 5835–5844, 2009  相似文献

The paper reports the synergistic effect of substituent, i.e. isopropyl group on electrical, thermal, and processability of polyaniline in the presence of 5‐lithiosulphoisophthalic acid (LiSIPA). The presence of substituent not only affects the electrochemical redox behavior of polyaniline but also brings changes in the optical and electronic properties of polyaniline. Evaluation of the copolymers as corrosion inhibitor for iron in 1.0 N HCl using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel extrapolation method shows that the copolymers and homopolymer show corrosion inhibition efficiency ranging from 69 to 80% depending upon the composition of the copolymers. The copolymers doped with LiSIPA were soluble in organic solvents like methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, N‐methyl pyrrolidinone, and chloroform. The compositions of the copolymers were determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The conductivity of the polymers was found to be in the order of 4.9 to 10?3 S cm?1 depending upon the comonomer ratios and concentration of dopant. Cyclic voltammetry of the copolymers shows a shift in peak potential value from 0.157 to 0.398 V when the monomer ratio of aniline to 2‐isopropylaniline in the polymerization reaction was changed from 0.9:0.1 to 0.5:0.5. The polymers were characterized by FTIR and UV‐visible spectroscopy, NMR, X‐ray diffraction, TGA, DSC, and cyclic voltammetry. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

To prepare novel polyimides with enhanced thermal stability and high solubility in common organic solvents, diamine monomers, 4‐aryl‐2,6 bis‐(4‐amino phenyl)pyridine, were introduced. The diamines were reacted with three different conventional aromatic dianhydrides including pyromellitic dianhydride, benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, and hexafluoroisopropylidene‐2,2‐bis(phthalic‐dianhydride) (6FDA) in dimethylacetamide solvent to obtain the corresponding polyimides via the polyamic acid precursors and chemical imidization. The monomers and polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis; and the best condition of polymerization and imidization were obtained via the study of model compound. The polyimides showed little or no weight loss by thermogravimetric analysis up to 500 °C, and those derived from 6FDA exhibited good solubility in various polar solvents. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of poly(o‐/m‐toluidine‐coo‐/m‐aminoacetophenone) copolymers combining the features of high conductivity and processibility are synthesized and characterized by a number of techniques including 1H NMR; thermogravimetry; IR, Raman, and UV–visible spectroscopy; scanning electron microscopy; and X‐ray diffraction. The copolymers are synthesized by the emulsion and inverse emulsion methods using conventional ammonium persulfate and a new oxidant, benzoyl peroxide, respectively. The influence of the polymerization conditions such as the monomer feed ratios, solvent, and the nonsolvent is investigated. The composition of the resulting copolymers is determined by 1H NMR analysis. The conductivity of the copolymers varies with the aminoacetophenone content in the feed and the polymerization conditions. It is interesting that the conductivity of the copolymers is higher than that of the corresponding homopolymers. The results are rationalized on the basis of the effect of the ? COCH3 substituent on the polymer structure. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 4300–4310, 2004  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of dendritic homopolymers and block copolymers of ?‐caprolactone and lactide (L ‐lactide and racemic lactide) were performed with multifunctional initiators in combination with living polymerization and the selective placement of branching junctures in a divergent growth strategy. A hexahydroxy‐functional 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid derivative was used as an initiator for the stannous‐2‐ethylhexanoate‐catalyzed living ring‐opening polymerization of ?‐caprolactone, L ‐lactide, and racemic L ,D ‐lactide. Branching junctions at the chain ends were introduced with benzylidene‐protected 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid. Subsequent generations were then polymerized, after deprotection, from these star‐shaped macroinitiators. Successive chain end capping and initiation produced three generations of polymers with molecular weights in excess of 130,000 g/mol and narrow polydispersities (<1.20). It was possible to prepare diblock and triblock copolymers with phase‐separated morphologies, and with L ‐lactide or D ,L ‐lactide, semicrystalline and amorphous morphologies were demonstrated. The polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, size exclusion chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry. The compositions of the block copolymers and the conformational structures of the optically active polymers were also confirmed by optical rotation measurements. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Starch and poly(p‐dioxanone) (PPDO) are the natural and synthetic biodegradable and biocompatible polymers, respectively. Their copolymers can find extensive applications in biomedical materials. However, it is very difficult to synthesize starch‐graft‐PPDO copolymers in common organic solvents with very good solubility. In this article, well‐defined polysaccharides‐graft‐poly(p‐dioxanone) (SAn‐PPDO) copolymers were successfully synthesized via the ring‐opening polymerization of p‐dioxanone (PDO) with an acetylated starch (SA) initiator and a Sn(Oct)2 catalyst in bulk. The copolymers were characterized via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential scanning calorimetry, and wide angle x‐ray diffraction. The in vitro degradation results showed that the introduction of SA segments into the backbone chains of the copolymers led to an enhancement of the degradation rate, and the degradation rate of SAn‐PPDO increased with the increase of SA wt %. Microspheres with an average volume diameter of 20 μm, which will have potential applications in controlled release of drugs, were successfully prepared by using these new copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Highly branched perfluorinated aromatic polyether copolymers were prepared from the polycondensation of the AB2 monomer, 3,5‐bis[(pentafluorobenzyl)oxy]benzyl alcohol with a variety of fluoroaryl and alkyl bromide AB comonomers. The structures and comonomer distribution of the resulting polymers were characterized in detail. 1H NMR data from kinetic trials illustrated that perfluoroaryl AB comonomer distribution correlated to AB comonomer sterics. 19F NMR data revealed that fluorinated AB monomers and 3‐bromo‐1‐propanol AB monomers were distributed within the AB2 polymer backbone, while longer alkyl bromide AB monomers, 6‐bromo‐1‐hexanol, were mostly distributed along hyperbranched polymer chain ends. In general, as AB comonomer incorporation increased for nonsterically hindered copolymers, thermal decomposition onset increased and glass transition temperatures decreased. The combined data demonstrated the effect of comonomer distribution and sterics on physical properties of AB2‐based polymer systems. The resulting materials were used to cast thin polymer films for measurement of contact angle, which were shown to be directly related to comonomer content. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Homopolymer bearing cyclic carbonate (CC) group, ABA type triblock copolymers, and (AC)B(AC) type terpolymers with statistical arrangement of A and C monomers bearing side chain CC groups are reported here. Difunctional poly(ethylene glycol) macroinitiators (PEGMIs) were prepared from PEG of three different molecular weights. PEGMIs were subsequently used for the preparation of polymers bearing CC pendant groups from cyclic carbonate methacrylate (CCMA) under atom transfer radical polymerization to yield polymers with low polydispersity index. Homopolymer and ABA type triblock copolymers were obtained by polymerizing CCMA monomer and (AC)B(AC) type statistical terpolymers were obtained when methyl methacrylate was included as a comonomer. No polymer was obtained when styrene was used as comonomer. The cyclic carbonate groups were subjected to ring‐opening reaction with monoamine to yield side chain hydroxyurethane polymers with increased solubility and diamines to yield crosslinked insoluble materials. Changes in wettability characteristics were studied by following the water contact angle of the polymers before and after ring‐opening reaction involving the cyclic carbonate pendant group. The polymers which composed of electrolyte in the form of PEG and coordinating species in the form of pendant cyclic carbonate groups showed conductivity in the range of 2–5 × 10?6 Scm?1 at 23 °C after doping with lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide as characterized by impedance spectroscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study aims at characterizing in depth the microstructure of propylene‐co‐1‐pentene‐co‐1‐hexene terpolymers, which have been recently reported to develop the isotactic polypropylene δ trigonal polymorph when the total comonomer content is high enough. Such a specific crystalline form had been only reported so far in the analogous copolymers containing either 1‐pentene or 1‐hexene. A comparative 13C NMR study in solution of the aforementioned terpolymers and copolymers allows asserting the random insertion of both comonomers during chain growth under the polymerization conditions used. The reaction parameters, mainly catalyst and temperature, have been chosen for the purpose of assuring relatively high molar mass polymers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The bulk polymerization of styrene initiated by ?‐caprolactam (CL) and n‐dodecyl mercaptan (RSH) has been explored. This novel polymerization system shows living characteristics. For example, the molecular weight of the resulting polymers increases with conversion, and the system has the ability to form diblock copolymers and so forth. The polymer chain end contains thiol and lactam structures, which we have investigated with Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR techniques. Electron spin resonance spectra and theoretical calculations by the Hartree–Fock methods have been used to examine the mechanism. The results reveal that the initial polymerization starts from thiol via a chain‐transfer reaction, and the propagation proceeds by the insertion of a monomer between the terminal group and the intermediate structure of lactam. Finally, the polymerization kinetics have been examined. The polymerization rate varies linearly with the concentration of CL and RSH, and this confirms the mechanism. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new class of amphiphilic organometallic block copolymers with cationic organoboron pendant groups was developed. Selective replacement of one of the bromine substitutents on each boryl group of the block copolymer PSBBr2b‐PS with an organometallic reagent ArM (ArM = 2,4,6‐trimethylphenyl copper, 4‐t‐butylphenyltrimethyl tin) followed by treatment with 2,2′‐bipyridine gave the novel block copolymers [ 3Ar ](Br)n as light yellow solid materials that show good stability in air and moisture and high solubility in most organic solvents. Their structure and composition were confirmed by multinuclear NMR, GPC, and elemental analysis. Highly regular micellar aggregates form in block‐selective solvents (e.g., MeOH, toluene) as demonstrated by 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Partially fluorinated poly(vinyl ether)s with C4F9 and C6F12H groups in the side chain were synthesized via living cationic polymerization in the presence of an added base in a fluorine‐containing solvent, dichloropentafluoropropanes. For comparison, the polymerization of vinyl ether monomers with C2F5 and C6F13 groups and nonfluorinated monomers were also carried out. The characterization of the product polymers using size exclusion chromatography with a fluorinated solvent as an eluent indicated that all polymers had narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ~ 1.1). Interestingly, the moderately fluorinated polymers with C4F9 exhibited upper critical solution temperature‐type phase separation in various organic solvents with wide‐ranging polarities, whereas highly fluorinated polymers with C6F13 are insoluble in nonfluorinated solvents. Polymers with C4F9 groups exhibited temperature dependent solubility transitions not only in common organic solvents (e.g., toluene, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and acetone) but also in perfluoro solvents [e.g., perfluoro(methylcyclohexane) and perfluorodecalin]. On the other hand, the solubility of polymers with C6F12H showed completely different from that of polymers with C6F13, despite their similar fluorine content. In addition, various types of fluorinated block copolymers were prepared in a living manner. The block copolymers with a thermosensitive fluorinated segment underwent temperature‐induced micellization and sol–gel transition in various organic solvents. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(benzobisthiazole)s containing tetrafluorophenyl and bromophenyl moieties were synthesized via the polycondensation of 2,5‐diamino‐1,4‐benzenedithiol dihydrochloride with tetrafluorophthalic acid and 4‐bromoisophthalic acid under a nitrogen atmosphere. The polymers were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, spectroscopy (infrared and solid‐state 13C NMR), and thermal analysis, including differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. A series of vinylene‐linked copolymers based on electron‐deficient benzobisthiazole and electron‐rich fluorene moieties were synthesized via Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons polymerization. Three different polymers P1 , P2 , and P3 , were prepared bearing octyl, 3,7‐dimethyloctyl, and 2‐(2‐ethoxy)ethoxyethyl side chains, respectively. The polymers all possessed moderate molecular weights, good solubility in aprotic organic solvents, and high fluorescence quantum efficiencies in dilute solutions. P2 , which bore branched 3,7‐dimethyloctyl side chains, exhibited better solubility than the other polymers, but also exhibited the lowest thermal decomposition temperature of all polymers. Overall, the impact of the side chains on the polymers optical properties in solution was negligible as all three polymers gave similar absorption and emission spectra in both solution and film. Guest‐host light‐emitting diodes using dilute blends of the polymers in a poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) host gave blue‐green emission with P2 exhibiting the highest luminous efficiency, 0.61 Cd/A at ~500 nm. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
