A series of Poly vinyl butyral–Poly (acrylic acid) (PVB-PAA) based form-stable phase change materials (PCMs) have been prepared for the use of thermal energy storage applications. Six types of formulations containing five different fatty alcohols were prepared by adding PVB to PAA. Using electrospinning to fabricate nanofibrous mats, our aim was to investigate their properties as form-stable PCMs. Fatty alcohols, 1-Tetradecanol, 1-Hexadecanol, 1-Octadecanol, 1-Eicosanol and 1-Docosanol, were added separately to base formulation. The structural characterization tests were performed by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. Morphological tests were conducted using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Thermal performances and phase change behaviors were tested by thermogravimetric analysis system (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The heating cycle phase change enthalpy is measured between 223 and 241?J/g, and the freezing cycle phase change enthalpy is found between 215 and 239?J/g. The main decomposition PVB-PAA based PCMs started at 220?°C. This study suggested that PVB-PAA based PCMs possess well phase change properties and they were found to have an applicable temperature range. With the presented results these materials promise a great potential in thermal energy storage applications.  相似文献

Various polyblends of poly(vinyl chloride) and polyurethane (PU) dissolved in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran and N,N‐dimethylformamide were produced by electrospinning, in different ratios, with several electrospinning conditions, and the relationship between morphology and mechanical behavior of the resulting fiber mats was examined in detail. The surface tension, viscosity, and electrical conductivity of polymer solutions affecting electrospinning were measured, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) along with a universal testing machine were used to examine the family of polyblends under investigation. The SEM images demonstrated that point‐bonded structures in the fiber mats rose with increasing PU composition, and the mechanical properties of the fiber mats, as determined in a static tensile test, can be considered to have a strong effect by the point‐bonded structure. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Layered carbon fiber mats have been prepared by layer-by-layer (LBL) electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile onto thin natural cellulose paper and subsequent carbonization. The layered carbon fiber mat has been proved to be a promising microbial fuel cell anode for high density layered biofilm propagation and high bioelectrocatalytic anodic current density.  相似文献

Polyoxymethylene/thermoplastic polyurethane (POM/TPU) blends containing 10–30 wt % of TPU were electrospun using hexafluoroisopropanol as the solvent. The average fiber diameter increases with the increase in TPU content from 0.68 μm for neat POM fibers to 0.92 μm for POM/TPU 7:3 blend fibers due to the increase in solution viscosity. Core/sheath structure with the major component POM as the core and the minor component TPU as the sheath was observed by transmission electron microscopy and further confirmed by surface N contents of the blend fiber mats. The crystalline melting point and the degree of crystallinity of POM have no obvious change by coelectrospinning with TPU due to lack of interaction between POM and TPU as revealed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Tensile tests showed that the unusual high ductility of POM fiber mat could be further increased by coelectrospinning with 10 or 20 wt % TPU without significantly decreasing the stiffness and strength. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The purpose of this work is to develop a novel type of tissue engineering scaffold or drugs delivery carrier with the capability of encapsulation and controlled release drugs. In this study, Rhodamine B and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) were successfully incorporated into nanofibers by means of emulsion electrospinning. The morphology of composite nanofibers was studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The composite nanofibrous mats made from emulsion electrospinning were characterized by water contact angle measurement and X-ray diffraction. In vitro dual drugs release behaviors from composite nanofibrous mats were investigated. The results indicated that the incorporated drug and/or proteins in composite fibrous mats made from electrospinning could be control released by adjusting the processes of emulsions preparation.  相似文献

Ultra‐fine poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) electrospun fiber mats containing carbendazim were successfully fabricated by electrospinning from the neat PVA solution containing carbendazim in various amounts based on the weight of PVA. The morphological appearance of both the neat and the carbendazim‐loaded electrospun PVA fibers were smooth and the incorporation of carbendazim in the neat PVA solution did not affect the morphology of the resulting fibers. The average diameters of the neat and the carbendazim‐loaded electrospun PVA fibers ranged between 155 and 160 nm. The chemical integrity of the as‐loaded carbendazim in the carbendazim‐loaded electrospun PVA fiber mats was intact as verified by the 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Thermal properties of the carbendazim‐loaded electrospun PVA fiber mats were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The release characteristics of the carbendazim‐loaded electrospun PVA mats were investigated by the total immersion method in distilled water at 30°C. The carbendazim‐loaded electrospun PVA mats exhibited greater amount of carbendazim released than the carbendazim‐loaded as‐cast films. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We report a facile way of preparing microfluidic channels filled with electrospun functional fibers. Patterned elastic molds were in tight contact with electrospun fiber mats without any leak of the analyte solution. As an example of the simple devices, we demonstrated a microfluidic protein chip selectively purifying histidine‐tagged proteins. Highly mesoporous nitrilotriacetic acid‐functionalized polystyrene (PS‐NTA) fibers were produced by taking advantage of interpenetrating phase separation between PS and PEO during electrospinning. The specific interaction of Ni‐complexed PS‐NTA fibers with histidine enabled us to immobilize only target proteins from highly heterogeneous protein mixtures. The easy process to fabricate functionalized microchannels combined with the high production throughput from electrospinning may greatly contribute to chip‐based chromatographic and bioanalytical devices. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a new large‐scale aligned fiber mats formation method called salt‐induced pulse electrospinning was developed. By electrospinning salted solution in a humid environment, traditional continuous electrospinning changed into pulse electrospinning and aligned fibers were thus formed. The possible mechanisms for the occurrence of salt‐induced pulse electrospinning and the formation of fiber alignment were studied. The continuous electrospinning changing into the pulse electrospinning was due to the change of viscosity and conductivity of salted polymer solution in a wet electrospinning condition. Fishing net‐shaped whipping region of the electrospinning jet during pulse electrospinning process was considered as the key factor for the formation of fiber alignment. The mechanical properties of the aligned fiber mat increased significantly compared with that of the random fiber mat. This aligned fiber preparation method only requires a very low rotating drum speed as the receiver and can produce large‐scale aligned fiber mats for many applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Human serum albumin (HSA) introduced to the fibers produced by electrospinning from HSA and polycaprolactone (PCL) solutions in hexafluoroisopropanol has been studied in terms of its structure, release from the fibers, stability of interaction with basic polymer, accessibility for protease attack, and cellular receptors, as well as dependence of the studied parameters on the protein concentration in fibers. A limited part of the protein leaves the fibers right after soaking with water, whereas the remaining protein stays tightly bound to fibers for a long time because protein nanoparticles are tightly integrated with PCL, as shown by small‐angle X‐ray scattering. As has been demonstrated, the proteins leave the fibers in complexes with PCL. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates that the protein concentration on the fiber surface is higher than the concentration in electrospinning solution. The surface‐exposed protein is recognized by cell receptors and is partially hydrolyzed by proteinase K. The data on pulse protein release, presence of PCL in the protein released from matrixes, overrepresentation of the protein on the fiber surface, and tight interaction of protein with PCL may be useful for rational design of electrospun scaffolds intended for drug delivery and tissue engineering. Segmented polyurethane (SPU) nanofiber mats were prepared by electrospinning technique using the combination of four different solvents viz. tetrahydrofuran, N,N′‐dimethyl formamide, N,N′‐dimethyl acetamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Morphology of the electrospun nanofibers was examined by field emission scanning electron microscope. Experimental results revealed that the morphologies of polyurethane nanofiber mats have been changed significantly with the solvent selection for the electrospinning. It was observed that the diameters and morphology of the SPU nanofibers were influenced greatly by the use of combination of solvents. The uniform polyurethane nanofibers without beads or curls could be prepared by electrospinning through the selection of combination of good conductive and good volatile solvent viz. 7.5 wt/v% of SPU in N,N′‐dimethyl formamide/tetrahydrofuran (30 : 70 v/v) solutions at 20 kV applied voltages and volume flow rate of 1 ml/min. On the basis of the results obtained from this investigation, it has been established that solvent selection is one of the driving factors for controlling the morphology of the polyurethane electrospun nanofiber mats. The well‐controlled morphology of electrospun polyurethane nanofiber mats could be useful for many potential industrial applications such as in biomedical, smart textiles, nanofiltration, and sensors. To fulfill the development of biotechnology and biomedicine, environmental-responsive polymer materials are wanted for isolation and purification of biomolecules. Herein, a novel thermo-responsive poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) blend nanofibrous mat was developed, which can adsorb and release a model solute, bovine serum albumin (BSA), through the way of hydrophilicity–hydrophobicity transition behavior of PNIPAM. The uniform bead-free electrospun nanofibers were obtained from the homogeneous PMMA solution in the presence of different amount of PNIPAM. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis showed that the electrospinnability of PMMA was improved by the addition of PNIPAM, and the diameter of resultant nanofibers could be modulated by controlling the amount of PNIPAM. The thermo-responsive swelling behavior of the blend nanofibrous mats was reversible and reproducible by changing environmental temperature across the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PNIPAM. Moreover, the separation property of the blend nanofibrous mats was found to be related to the amount of PNIPAM as well as the concentration of BSA. As for a better separation effect, the nanofibers with higher content of PNIPAM were favorable.  相似文献

The correlation between structure/microstructure and thermomechanical properties has been investigated by the Thermally Stimulated Creep (TSC) technique in a high performance thermostable thermoset matrix composite. The high resolving power of this technique allows us to analyse the retardation mode. The kinetics of molecular movements liberated at the glass transition has been investigated by the technique of fractional loading: the analysis of each elementary process gives the real compliance and the retardation time as a function of temperature. The values of the activation parameters show the existence of a compensation phenomenon which characterizes the microstructure. It also gives access to the loss compliance of the composite material as a function of temperature and frequency. The predictive calculation of loss compliance has been validated by the results obtained by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).  相似文献

This study describes the preparation and characterization of nanofibrous mats obtained by electrospinning poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) solutions in trifluoroacetic acid/dichloromethane (TFA/DCM). Special attention was paid to the effect of polymer concentration and solvent properties on the morphology, structure, and mechanical and thermal properties of the electrospun nonwovens. The results show that the spinnable concentration of PET solution in TFA/DCM solvents is above 10 wt %. Mats have nanofibrous morphology with fibers having an average diameter in the range of 200–700 nm (depending on polymer concentration and solvent composition) and an interconnected pore structure. Higher solution concentration favors the formation of uniform fibers without beads and with higher diameter. Morphology and fiber assembly changed with the solvent properties. Solvent mixtures rich in TFA, i.e., those with higher dielectric constant and lower surface tension, originated fibers with small diameter. However, due to the lower volatility, those solvent mixtures also produced more branched and crosslinking fibers, with less morphologic uniformity. Mechanical properties (Young's modulus, ultimate strength, and elongation at break) and thermal properties (glass transition, crystallization, and melting) have been studied for the PET electrospun nanomats and compared with those of the original polymer. Solvent effect on fiber crystallinity was not significant, but a complex effect was observed on the mechanical properties of the electrospun mats, as a consequence of the different structural organization of the fibers within the mat network. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Electrospinning provides a simple and versatile method for fabricating nanofiber mats. Electrospun fiber mat of well aligned and order architectures was often required for many applications. In this communication, biaxial orientation mats were electrospun by a novel collector consisting of two rotating disks with conductive edge. In addition, an auxiliary electrode was induced to focus the electrostatic field and force the fibers to align regularly. The biaxial orientation structure was formed with the variation of rotation speed without revolving the fiber mat during the electrospinning process, and the dates presented in this paper demonstrated that the degree of biaxial orientation strongly depended on the rotation speed. This simple method has potential applications in textile and electronic areas. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Mats of highly oriented poly(vinylidene fluoride) nanofibers were electrospun by means of a conventional electrospinning equipment; the orientation, however, was obtained using a disk collector rotating at a speed of 4000 rpm and a device that reduced the influence of air displacement during nanofiber orientation. Thermal transitions of the mats were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, the predominant crystalline phase by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering and the nanofiber orientation and morphology by scanning electron microscopy. Relative permittivity, loss index, stable remnant polarization, and coercive field of the mats were also determined and compared with those obtained for a mat electrospun at 2000 rpm and an oriented commercial film. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work presents an electrospun nanofibrous membrane for water treatment, designed to reduce its pores through polymer swelling to retain contaminants, and after that, reopening them for easy cleaning. It consists of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) mat crosslinked with a natural agent to avoid water solubility but allow a high swelling of its nanofibers. Then, when the membrane is brought into contact with water, a transitory state occurs during which nanofibers increase their diameter 68%, closing the pores between them. For studying the swelling reversal effect, distilled water filtering was used observing a decrease in the permeate flow over time until a steady state is reached. This phenomenon is explained by the closure of pores, and it is described with a fouling model widely used in the literature. Thanks to this decrease in the pore size, the membrane achieves a rejection rate much higher than conventional PVA electrospun membranes, being capable to retain 20 nm nanoparticles with a rejection rate up to 99%. Swelling is reversible through a simple drying process, which allows reopening the pores and cleaning the fouling easily. Both the membrane and its use strategy extend the capacity of electrospun mats in a sustainable way.  相似文献

This work reveals influence of electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile–N ,N‐dimethylformamide solution of different concentrations on nanofiber web color parameters, molecular structure, and heat stability. It is found that fiber diameters depend on concentration through the power law relationship; however, the medium concentration‐based web is characterized by a green–yellow hue, representative of the chromophore color; while, the solvent‐rich and solvent‐poor solution‐based webs give rise to Stokes shifts and ultraviolet‐blue emission bands, attributed to fluorescence. The chromophore structure, present in the neat powder, undergoes changes as a result of electrospinning reflected by the enamine‐to‐ketonitrile conversion and the fraction of C?N conjugation. Blue‐shifting of the C?N conjugation is indicative of a reduction of the π‐electron system, which is coincident with the decreased color saturation value but observed only in the nanofibers prepared from the medium concentration solution. A decrease in the glass transition and an increase in cyclization temperatures also support these findings. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Silk fibroin (SF) nanofibrous mats were fabricated via electrospinning process. These fibers were blended with TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs). The influence of TiO2 NPs on the nanofibrous matrices was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray, and thermogravimetric analysis. The SEM images revealed that the average diameter of the SF/TiO2 fibers was 385 ± 63 nm when the concentration of SF was up to 10% (w/v). Infrared spectra showed that the β‐sheet structure of the silk fibroin increased after acetone treatment. These SF/TiO2 nanofibrous mats exhibited higher equilibrium water content and water vapor transmission rate than hydrocolloid dressing. The hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility of SF/TiO2 nanofibrous mats were evaluated by complete blood count, cell attachment, and the spreading of L929 fibroblasts. These SF/TiO2 nanofibrous mats exhibited antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli under UV irradiation. Thus, these novel nanocomposite mats may be used for biomedical applications such as wound dressing. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, we studied solvent-induced polymer degradation and its effect on the morphology of electrospun fibers. Nylon-6 in formic acid solvent was allowed to degrade by simply allowing it to stand for a long time, and nanofibrous mats were fabricated by taking a fraction of this solution at different time intervals via electrospinning under the same electrospinning conditions. FE-SEM images of the mats indicate that the nanofiber diameter gradually decreased with the standing time of solution, and large numbers of true nano fibers (<50 nm in diameter) were obtained. MALDI-TOF analysis revealed that the formation of low-molecular weight ions was caused by solvent degradation. FT-IR, DSC, XRD, and TGA analyses of electrospun mats showed that some physical properties, such as bond strength, crystallinity, and thermal stability also depended on solvent degradation. The obtained sub-nanofibrous mat has potential applications in different bioengineering fields.  相似文献
