The effect of introducing silver nanoparticles on the rheological properties and dynamic crystallization behavior of nylon‐6 was investigated. The nanocomposites showed slightly higher viscosity than pure nylon‐6 in the low‐frequency range even at an extremely low loading level of the silver particles (0.5–1.0 wt %). The nanoparticles had a more noticeable effect on the storage modulus than on the loss modulus of a nylon‐6 melt and reduced its loss tangent. They increased the crystallization temperature of nylon‐6 by about 14 °C and produced a sharper crystalline peak. The silver nanoparticles promoted the crystallization of nylon‐6, and their effect on the dynamic crystallization of nylon‐6 at 200 °C was more notable at a lower shear rate and at 190 °C at a higher frequency. Nylon‐6 produced large spherulitic crystals, but the nanocomposites showed a grainy structure. In addition, the silver nanoparticles reduced the fraction of the α‐form crystal but increased that of the γ‐form crystal. The nanocomposites crystallized at 190 °C showed a lower melting temperature than nylon‐6 by about 3 °C, whereas the nanocomposites crystallized at 200 °C showed almost the same melting temperature. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The miktoarm star‐shaped poly(lactic acid) (PLA) copolymer, (PLLA)2‐core‐(PDLA)2, was synthesized via stepwise ring‐opening polymerization of lactide with dibromoneopentyl glycol as the starting material. 1H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy proved the feasibility of synthetic route and the successful preparation of star‐shaped PLA copolymers. The results of FTIR spectroscopy and XRD showed that the stereocomplex structure of the copolymer could be more perfect after solvent dissolution treatment. Effect of chain architectures on crystallization was investigated by studying the nonisothermal and isothermal crystallization of the miktoarm star‐shaped PLA copolymer and other stereocomplexes. Nonisothermal differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy tests indicated that (PLLA)2‐core‐(PDLA)2 exhibited the fastest formation of a stereocomplex in a dynamic test due to its special structure. In isothermal crystallization tests, the copolymer exhibited the fast crystal growth rate and the most perfect crystal morphology. The results reveal that the unique molecular structure has an important influence on the crystallization of the miktoarm star‐shaped PLA copolymer. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Functionalized carbon nanotubes (F‐CNTs) were synthesized through the nucleophilic substitution reaction between four‐armed star poly(d ‐lactide) (4PDLA) and acryl chloride of carbon nanotubes and were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicated that the 4PDLA was successfully grafted onto carbon nanotubes, and it contained 45.5 wt% of 4PDLA. Poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) nanocomposites with different F‐CNTs content were prepared by solution casting. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy results showed that F‐CNTs were uniformly dispersed in the nanocomposites. Crystallization behavior and crystal structure of PLLA nanocomposites were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing microscope and X‐ray diffraction. The results found that poly(lactide) stereocomplex crystal could be formed between PLLA and F‐CNTs. F‐CNTs played different roles in the process of solution casting and melting crystallization. Polarizing microscope also revealed that crystallization temperature had a significant effect on the nucleation and spherulites growth of PLLA. Thermal stability and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were also investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile testing. These results demonstrated that the addition of F‐CNTs obviously improved thermal stability and tensile strength of PLLA. The results showed that PLLA/F‐CNTs would have potential values in engineering fields. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) composites with TiO2‐g‐poly(D‐lactide) (PDLA), which was synthesized by surface‐initiated opening ring polymerization with TiO2 as initiator and Sn(Oct)2 as catalyst, were prepared by solution casting. The synthesized TiO2‐g‐PDLA was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dynamic laser scattering (DLS), showing larger size corresponding to that of TiO2. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were further carried out and indicated that PDLA was grafted onto TiO2 through covalent bond. For PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA composites, the stereocomplex crystallites were formed between PDLA grafted on the surface of TiO2 and the PLLA matrix, which was determined by FT‐IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X‐ray diffractometer (XRD). The influence of stereocomplex crystallites on the rheological behavior of PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA was investigated by rheometer, which showed greater improvement of rheological properties compared to that of PLLA/TiO2 composites especially with a percolation content of TiO2‐g‐PDLA between 3 wt%–5 wt%. The crystallization and melting behavior of PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA composites were studied by DSC under different thermal treatment conditions. The formed PLA stereocomplex network acted as nucleating agents and a special interphase on the functional surface of TiO2, which resulted in imperfect PLLA crystal with lower melting temperature. When the thermal treatment was close to the melting temperature of PLA stereocomplex, the crystallinity approached to the maximum. The isothermal crystallization study by polarizing microscope (POM) indicated that stereocomplex network presented stronger nucleation capacity than TiO2‐g‐PDLA. The characteristic rheological responses of solutions of atactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) in dimethyl sulfoxide were investigated in terms of the concentration and molecular weight. The syndiotactic dyad content and weight‐average molecular weight of PVA were 52% and 85,000–186,000, respectively. On a modified Cole–Cole plot, the solutions did not give a single master curve with a slope of 2 but gave various curves with slopes of less than 2. Furthermore, the slope slightly decreased with increasing concentration. The deviation from the master curve indicated that the solutions were rheologically heterogeneous, despite optical transparency. Among the PVA solutions, the 14 wt % solutions exhibited very unusual rheological behavior. The loss tangent changed with the shear rate and produced three distinct regions, which indicated a shear‐induced phase transition. With respect to Winter's view on gelation, the 14 wt % solutions underwent a double sol–gel transition as the shear rate increased over the frequency range of 0.05–500 rad/s. However, the molecular weight did not have such noticeable effects on the rheological behavior over the concentration range of 10–14 wt %. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal properties and phase morphology of poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA)‐based blends have been studied. Two poly(ethylene glycol)s (PEGs) with molecular weight (MW) of about 1,500 (1.5k) g/mol and 2,000,000 (2M) g/mol, respectively, were used as counterparts. The blends were annealed at a preselected temperature of 200 °C for either 2 min or 30 min before the characterizations. Both PEGs were determined to enhance the crystallizability of PLLA. After a 2‐min process of annealing, the PEG(1.5k)'s crystallization efficiency on PLLA has been noted to increase with the increase of its content. Conversely, PEG(2M)'s crystallization efficiency declined with the increase of its content. Extending the annealing time has evidently changed the PEGs' crystallization effect on PLLA. Moreover, the PEG(1.5k) has, to a greater extent, brought about the depression of PLLA's melting temperature by increasing its content, and this depression increased with the annealing time. The blends exhibited lower thermal stability than those of the parent components, particularly for the PEG(1.5k)‐included system with a higher PEG content. Regardless of the annealing time, the PEG(1.5k)‐included blends have shown homogeneous melt morphology under light microscope, whereas the PEG(2M)‐included blends have displayed phase‐separated melt morphology. In addition to the composition, PEG's MW and annealing time influence the crystalline morphology of the blends. The ringed PLLA spherulites have appeared mostly in the 2‐min annealed PEG(1.5k)‐included blends. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 47: 1497–1510, 2009  相似文献

New star‐shaped and photocrosslinked poly(1,5‐dioxepan‐2‐one) (PDXO) has been synthesized through ring‐opening polymerization initiated by SnOct2/pentaerythritol. The star‐shaped PDXO was end‐functionalized by acrolyol chloride to form acrylate end groups. The end‐functionalized PDXO was photocrosslinked initiated by 2,2‐dimethoxy‐2‐phenylacetophenone. The gel content ranged from 80 to 99%, indicating a high degree of crosslinking. The thermal properties of the star‐shaped PDXO and the photocrosslinked PDXO were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry. The glass‐transition temperature was determined to approximately ?32 °C for the crosslinked PDXO. The viscosity numbers were determined for star‐shaped PDXO, with reference to linear homologues. The star‐shaped PDXO had lower viscosity numbers than the linear counterparts. The crosslinked PDXO showed a rather hydrophilic surface as compared with other resorbable polyesters. The advancing contact angle was 64 ± 2, and the receding angle was 57 ± 4. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 2049–2054, 2002  相似文献

The thermal properties, crystallization, and morphology of amphiphilic poly(D ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PDLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) and poly (L ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) copolymers were studied and compared to those of the corresponding poly(lactide) homopolymers. Additionally, stereocomplexation of these copolymers was studied. The crystallization kinetics of the PLA blocks was retarded by the presence of the PDMAEMA block. The studied copolymers were found to be miscible in the melt and the glassy state. The Avrami theory was able to predict the entire crystallization range of the PLA isothermal overall crystallization. The melting points of PLDA/PLLA and PLA/PLA‐b‐PDMAEMA stereocomplexes were higher than those formed by copolymer mixtures. This indicates that the PDMAEMA block is influencing the stability of the stereocomplex structures. For the low molecular weight samples, the stereocomplexes particles exhibited a conventional disk‐shape structure and, for high molecular weight samples, the particles displayed unusual star‐like shape morphology. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Effects of ferrite nanoparticles (0.1–20 wt %) on the rheological and other physical properties of nylon‐66 were investigated. The presence of ferrite nanoparticles less than 1 wt % increased the crystallization temperature (Tc) by 4.2 °C with ferrite content, but further addition decreased Tc. The onset temperature of degradation was increased by 7.3 °C at only 0.1 wt % loading of ferrite, after which the thermal stability of nylon‐66 was decreased with ferrite content. The incorporation of ferrite nanoparticles more than 5 wt % increased the dynamic viscosity (η′) with the loading level. Further, it produced notably shear thickening behavior in the low frequency, after which high degree of shear thinning was followed with ferrite content. In the Cole–Cole plot, the nanocomposites with ferrite lower than 5 wt % presented a single master curve, while further addition gave rise to a deviation from the curve. The relaxation time (λ) was increased with ferrite content and the difference of λ between nylon‐66 and its nanocomposite was greater at lower frequency. The tensile strength was a little increased up to 1 wt % loading, after which it was decreased with increasing the loading level. In addition, the introduction of the nanoparticles increased tensile modulus and decreased the ductility with ferrite content. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organic montmorillonite (OMMT) and the one‐dimensional functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (FMWCNTs) were introduced into poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) to prepare PLLA/OMMT and PLLA/FMWCNT nanocomposites, respectively. The effects of nanofillers on melt crystallization and cold crystallization of PLLA were comparatively investigated by using polarized optical microcopy, differential scanning calorimetry and wide angle X‐ray diffraction. The results show that FMWCNTs exhibit higher nucleation efficiency for the melt crystallization of PLLA, whereas OMMT is the better one for the cold crystallization of PLLA. Rheological properties show that both OMMT and FMWCNTs at relatively higher concentrations can form the percolated network structure in the PLLA matrix, however, the latter nanocomposites exhibit relatively denser or more compact percolated networks. The difference of the networks between OMMT and FMWCNTs is suggested to be the main reason for the different cold crystallization behaviors observed in the PLLA/OMMT and PLLA/FMWCNT nanocomposites. The dynamic mechanical analysis measurements show that OMMT is the better one to improve the stiffness of the nanocomposites in the present work. The thermogravimetric analysis measurements show that FMWCNTs have higher efficiency in improving the thermal stability of PLLA compared with OMMT. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Glass transition, cold crystallization, and melting of freeze‐dried poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) prepared from dilute 1,4‐dioxane solutions were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Conventional DSC measurements of heating scans revealed that freeze‐dried PLLA prepared from a 0.07 wt % solution undergoes a two‐step cold crystallization (or reorganization) with a lower exotherm appearing at about 78 °C and with a higher broad exotherm between 110–155 °C. The peak temperature of the former exotherm is about 50 K lower than that observed for a reference bulk sample. Step‐scan mode DSC, which provides information essentially equivalent to that obtained from the temperature‐modulated DSC, revealed that the glass‐transition temperature is about 6 K lower than that of the reference bulk. These findings suggest enhanced chain mobility for freeze‐dried PLLA. Freeze‐dried PLLA that crystallized at 80 °C for 40 min was revealed to contain a rather large amount of rigid amorphous material (42%). © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Multi‐walled carbon nanotube/poly(ε‐caprolactone) composites (PCLCNs) were prepared by melt compounding. The rheology, nonisothermal crystallization behavior, and thermal stability of PCLCNs were, respectively, investigated by the parallel‐plate rheometer, differential scanning calorimeter, and TGA. Cole–Cole plots were employed successfully to detect the rheological percolation of PCLCNs under small amplitude oscillatory shear. PCLCNs present a low percolation threshold of about 2–3 wt % in contrast to that of clay‐based nanocomposites. The percolated nanotube network is very sensitive to the steady shear deformation, and is also to the temperature, which makes the principle of time‐temperature superposition be invalid on those percolated PCLCNs. Small addition of nanotube cannot improve the thermal stability of PCL but can increase crystallization temperature remarkably due to the nucleating effect. As the nanotube is much enough to be percolated, however, the impeding effect becomes the dominant role on the crystallization, and the thermal stability increases to some extent. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here, we report on the synthesis and different crystallization behavior of linear‐ and star‐ PCL's containing a photocleavable linker (5‐hydroxy‐2‐nitro benzaldehyde), modulated by photochemical switching. Basis is the attachment of a photocleavable moiety close to the star‐core of a three‐arm star poly(caprolactone), so that the crystallization behavior can be controlled via a photochemical stimulus. The polymerization of ε‐caprolactone using a trivalent photocleavable initiator and stannous octanoate catalyst resulted in the synthesis of different molecular weights of star‐shaped photocleavable polymers. Various techniques like 1H NMR and ESI‐TOF‐MS confirmed the successful synthesis of the star‐shaped polymers. Complete photocleavage is ensured via GPC, HPLC, and ESI‐TOF‐MS. DSC studies clearly indicated the enhancement in crystallinity after photocleavage of the star‐shaped poly(ε‐caprolactone)s. Hence, for the first time phototriggered crystallization behavior of PCL polymers is reported, where the confinement exerted by the star architecture is removed by photoirradiation. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of reactive melt modification of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with a multifunctional epoxide—triglycidyl isocyanurate—that lead to chain extension/branching and formation of gel‐like structures were rheologically characterized. The storage and loss moduli and the complex viscosity of the modified PET were larger than those of the unmodified PET. The elastic or solidlike behavior of PET was enhanced after reactive modification as a result of chain extension/branching. Modified Cole–Cole plots revealed that the modified resins show higher elasticity than the unmodified one. Reactive modification characterized by the presence of long‐chain branching resulted in a wider molecular weight distribution. The effects of mixing temperature and the concentration of modifier corresponding to different stoichiometries were investigated. Higher amounts of modifier resulted in a polymeric structure near the sol–gel transition point whose linear viscoelastic properties obey scaling law. The relaxation spectrum was calculated from the oscillatory shear data by Tschoegl equations. Certain modified resins have rheological properties suitable for process operations such as extrusion foaming, blow molding, and thermoforming. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of hybrid star‐shaped polymers was carried out by atom transfer radical polymerization of n‐butyl acrylate from a well‐defined multifunctional titanium‐oxo‐cluster initiator. Conditions were identified to prevent possible side reactions among monomer, polymer, and the titanium‐oxo‐cluster ligands. Polymerizations provided linear first‐order kinetics and the evolution of the experimental molecular weight is also linear with the conversion. 1H DOSY NMR and cleavage of the polymeric branches from the multifunctional initiator by hydrolysis were used to (i) prove the star‐shaped structure of the polymer, and (ii) demonstrate that the shoulder observed on size exclusion chromatograms is not due to a noncontrolled polymerization but to ungrafting of polymeric branches during analysis. Rheological properties of the hybrid star‐shaped poly(n‐butyl acrylate) were studied in the linear regime and show that the Ti‐oxo‐cluster not only increases significantly the viscosity of the polymer relative to its ungrafted arm but has a rheological signature which is qualitatively different from that of stars with organic cores suggesting that the Ti cluster reduces significantly the molecular mobility of the star. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nanocompsites of star‐shaped poly(D‐lactide)‐co‐poly(L‐lactide) stereoblock copolymers (s‐PDLA‐PLLA) with two‐dimensional graphene nanosheets (GNSs) were prepared by solution mixing method. Crystallization behaviors were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction. The results of isothermal crystallization behaviors of the nanocompsites clearly indicated that the GNS could remarkably accelerate the overall crystallization rate of s‐PDLA‐PLLA copolymer. Unique stereocomplex crystallites with melting temperature about 207.0°C formed in isothermal crystallization for all samples. The crystallization temperatures of s‐PDLA‐PLLAs shifted to higher temperatures, and the crystallization peak shapes became sharper with increasing GNS contents. The maximum crystallization temperature of the sample with 3 wt% GNS was about 128.2°C, ie, 15°C higher than pure s‐PDLA‐PLLA. At isothermal crystallization processes, the halftime of crystallization (t0.5) of the sample with 3 wt% GNS decreased to 6.4 minutes from 12.9 minutes of pure s‐PDLA‐PLLA at 160°C.The Avrami exponent n values for the nanocomposites samples were 2.6 to 3.0 indicating the crystallization mechanism with three‐dimensional heterogeneous nucleation and spherulites growth. The morphology and average diameter of spherulites of s‐PDLA‐PLLA with various GNS contents were observed in isothermal crystallization processes by polarized optical microscopy. Spherulite growth rates of samples were evaluated by using combined isothermal and nonisothermal procedures and analyzed by the secondary nucleation theory. The results evidenced that the GNS has acceleration effects on the crystallization of s‐PDLA‐PLLA with good nucleation ability in the s‐PDLA‐PLLA material.  相似文献

Poly(L ‐lactide)/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (PLLA/MWCNTs) nanocomposite recently attracts much attention because of its excellent comprehensive properties including improved thermostability, tensile strength, and conductivity. However, the nanocomposite exhibits similar brittleness compared with unmodified PLLA. In this work, a polar elastomer, that is, ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate (EVA), was introduced into PLLA/MWCNTs nanocomposite. The selective distribution of MWCNTs and the effects of EVA on crystalline structure of PLLA were investigated using scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, differential scanning calorimetry, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction. The results show that the presence of EVA induces the change of the distribution of MWCNTs in the nanocomposites, and consequently, the cold crystallization of PLLA is prevented. With the increase of EVA content, both the ductility and the impact resistance of PLLA/FMWCNTs are improved greatly, indicating the toughening effect of EVA on PLLA/MWCNTs nanocomposite. The decreased tensile strength and modulus can be compensated through annealing treatment. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2011  相似文献

In this work, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were surface‐modified and grafted with poly(L ‐lactide) to obtain poly(L ‐lactide)‐grafted MWNTs (i.e. MWNTs‐g‐PLLA). Films of the PLLA/MWNTs‐g‐PLLA nanocomposites were then prepared by a solution casting method to investigate the effects of the MWNTs‐g‐PLLA on nonisothermal and isothermal melt‐crystallizations of the PLLA matrix using DSC and TMDSC. DSC data found that MWNTs significantly enhanced the nonisothermal melt‐crystallization from the melt and the cold‐crystallization rates of PLLA on the subsequent heating. Temperature‐modulated differential scanning calorimetry (TMDSC) analysis on the quenched PLLA nanocomposites found that, in addition to an exothermic cold‐crystallization peak in the range of 80–120 °C, an exothermic peak in the range of 150–165 °C, attributed to recrystallization, appeared before the main melting peak in the total and nonreversing heat flow curves. The presence of the recrystallization peak signified the ongoing process of crystal perfection and, if any, the formation of secondary crystals during the heating scan. Double melting endotherms appeared for the isothermally melt‐crystallized PLLA samples at 110 °C. TMDSC analysis found that the double lamellar thickness model, other than the melting‐recrystallization model, was responsible for the double melting peaks in PLLA nanocomposites. Polarized optical microscopy images found that the nucleation rate of PLLA was enhanced by MWNTs. TMDSC analysis found that the incorporation of MWNTs caused PLLA to decrease the heat‐capacity increase (namely, ΔCp) and the Cp at glass transition temperature. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (FMWCNTs) were introduced into poly(L‐lactide)/polyethylene glycol (PLLA/PEG) blend and the effects of FMWCNTs on crystallization behaviors, rheological, and mechanical properties of PLLA/PEG/FMWCNTs were investigated. The results show that FMWCNTs exhibit good distribution in the nanocomposites and absorb some PEG to agglomerate around them. The crystallization behavior of PLLA in the nanocomposites is greatly dependent on the content of FMWCNTs. At low content of FMWCNTs, the addition of FMWCNTs improves the crystallization behavior of PLLA by enhancing the crystallization temperature and accelerating the crystallization rate, whereas at high content of FMWCNTs, the crystallization of PLLA is restricted to a certain degree. Rheological properties show the formation of the network structure of FMWCNTs at high content, which is the main reason for the retarded crystallization behavior of PLLA due to the network structure providing restriction to mobility and diffusion of PLLA chains to crystal growth fronts. The mechanical properties show that FMWCNTs exhibit reinforcement effect for plasticized PLLA. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A novel nucleating agent (TBC8‐t), self‐assembled with ptert‐butylcalix[8]arene (TBC8) and toluene, was used to manipulate the crystallization behavior of poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA). Toluene molecules were used to adjust the crystallization structure of TBC8. Differential scanning calorimetry results show that the crystallization peak temperature (Tc) and crystallization rate (ΔHc/time) of PLLA nucleated with TBC8‐t are 132.3 °C and 0.24 J/gs, respectively, which are much higher than that with conventional nucleating agent‐talc (Tc = 119.3 °C, ΔHc/time = 0.13 J/gs). The results of polarized optical microscopy demonstrate that TBC8‐t could greatly enhance the crystallization rate of PLLA by increasing the nucleation rate rather than crystal growth rate. Along with an improvement of the crystallization rate, the crystalline morphology of PLLA is also affected by TBC8‐t. The addition of TBC8‐t transforms most of the original spherulite crystals into sheaf‐like crystals. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 48: 1235–1243, 2010  相似文献
