The morphology of micro‐ and nanodroplets and thin films of ionic liquids (ILs) prepared through physical vapor deposition is presented. The morphology of droplets deposited on indium‐tin‐oxide‐coated glass is presented for the extended 1‐alkyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([CnC1im][Ntf2]; n=1–8) series, and the results show the nanostructuration of ILs. The use of in‐vacuum energetic particles enhances/increases the nanodroplets mobility/coalescence mechanisms and can be a pathway to the fabrication of thin IL films.  相似文献

The interaction of molecules, especially hydrocarbons, at the gas/ionic liquid (IL) surface plays a crucial role in supported IL catalysis. The dynamics of this process is investigated by measuring the trapping probabilities of n-butane, iso-butane and 1-butene on a set of frozen 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium-based ILs [CnC1Im]X, where n=4, 8 and X=Cl, Br, [PF6] and [Tf2N]. The decrease of the initial trapping probability with increasing surface temperature is used to determine the desorption energy of the hydrocarbons at the IL surfaces. It increases with increasing alkyl chain length n and decreasing anion size for the ILs studied. We attribute these effects to different degrees of alkyl chain surface enrichment, while interactions between the adsorbate and the anion do not play a significant role. The adsorption energy also depends on the adsorbing molecule: It decreases in the order n-butane>1-butene>iso-butane, which can be explained by different dispersion interactions.  相似文献

We report the liquid crystalline (LC) assembly and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) properties of wedge‐shaped block copolymer (BCP)/1‐alkyl‐3‐methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([CnMIM][BF4], n = 2, 4, 6) complexes ( 1 – 3 ) depending on the alkyl chain length of the ionic liquids (ILs). In contrast to the crystalline BCP, all of the ionic samples showed LC phases. 1 with [C2MIM][BF4] exhibited a hexagonal columnar phase, and 3 with [C6MIM][BF4] exhibited a gyroid phase. Interestingly, a temperature‐dependent transformation from columnar phase to gyroid phase was revealed for 2 with [C4MIM][BF4]. The phase difference may be explained by the supramolecular shape change that was dependent on the alkyl chain length of the ILs. The LCST behavior was characterized using the differential scanning calorimetry, turbidity observations, and the X‐ray diffraction techniques. Notably, the primary d‐spacing began to decrease at the clouding temperature (Tc). 3 showed the highest Tc at 130 °C, which is greater than the temperature of the order‐to‐disorder transition. The results demonstrate that the subtle variation in the IL structure affects the morphological and LCST properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Steady‐state and time‐resolved fluorescence behavior of coumarin 153 (C153) is investigated in a series of 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium alkylsulfate ([C2mim][CnOSO3]) ionic liquids differing only in the length of the linear alkyl chain (n=4, 6, and 8) in the anion. The aim of the present study is to understand the role of alkyl chain length in solute rotation and solvation dynamics of C153 in these ionic liquids. The blueshift observed in the steady‐state absorption and emission maxima of C153 on going from the C4OSO3 to the C8OSO3 system indicates increasing nonpolar character of the microenvironment of the solute with increasing length of the alkyl side chain of the anion of the ionic liquids. The average solvation time is also found to increase on changing the substituent from butyl to octyl, and this is attributed to the increase in the bulk viscosity of the ILs. A steady blueshift of the time‐zero maximum of the fluorescence spectrum with increasing alkyl chain length also indicates that the probe molecule experiences a less polar environment in the early part of the dynamics. Rotational dynamics of C153 are also analyzed by using the Stokes–Einstein–Debye (SED), Gierer–Wirtz (GW), and Dote–Kivelson–Schwartz (DKS) theories. Analyses of the results seem to suggest decoupling of the rotational motion of the probe from solvent viscosity.  相似文献

The phase behaviour of binary mixtures of ionic surfactants (1‐alkyl‐3‐imidazolium chloride, CnmimCl with n=14, 16 and 18) and imidazolium‐based ionic liquids (1‐alkyl‐3‐methylimidazolium tetrachloroferrate, CnmimFeCl4, with n=2 and 4) over a broad temperature range and the complete range of compositions is described. By using many complementary methods including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarised microscopy, small‐angle neutron and X‐ray scattering (SANS/SAXS), and surface tension, the ability of this model system to support self‐assembly is described quantitatively and this behaviour is compared with common water systems. The existence of micelles swollen by the solvent can be deduced from SANS experiments and represent a possible model for aggregates, which has barely been considered for ionic‐liquid systems until now, and can be ascribed to the rather low solvophobicity of the surfactants. Our investigation shows that, in general, CnmimCl is a rather weak amphiphile in these ionic liquids. The amphiphilic strength increases systematically with the length of the alkyl chain, as seen from the phase behaviour, the critical micelle concentration, and also the level of definition of the aggregates formed.  相似文献

Several ionic liquids (ILs) based on complex manganate(II) anions with chloro, bromo, and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amido (Tf2N) ligands have been synthesized. As counterions, n‐alkyl‐methylimidazolium (Cnmim) cations of different chain length (alkyl=ethyl (C2), propyl (C3), butyl (C4), hexyl (C6)) were chosen. Except for the 1‐hexyl‐3‐methylimidazolium ILs, all of the prepared compounds could be obtained in a crystalline state at room temperature. However, each of the compounds displayed a strong tendency to form a supercooled liquid. Generally, solidification via a glass transition took place below ?40 °C. Consequently, all of these compounds can be regarded as ionic liquids. Depending on the local coordination environment of Mn2+, green (tetrahedrally coordinated Mn2+) or red (octahedrally coordinated Mn2+) luminescence emission from the 4T(G) level is observed. 1 The local coordination of the luminescent Mn2+ centre has been unequivocally established by UV/Vis as well as Raman and IR vibrational spectroscopies. Emission decay times measured at room temperature in the solid state (crystalline or powder) were generally a few ms, although, depending on the ligand, values of up to 25 ms were obtained. For the bromo compounds, the luminescence decay times proved to be almost independent of the physical state and the temperature. However, for the chloro‐ and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amido ILs, the emission decay times were found to be dependent on the temperature even in the solid state, indicating that the measured values are strongly influenced by nuclear motion and the vibration of the atoms. In the liquid state, the luminescence of tetrahedrally coordinated Mn2+ could only be observed when the tetrachloromanganate ILs were diluted with the respective halide ILs. However, for [C3mim][Mn(Tf2N)3], in which Mn2+ is in an octahedral coordination environment, a weak red emission from the pure compound was found even in the liquid state at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

Corrosion is a global problem for any metallic structure or material. Herein we show how metals can easily be protected against acid corrosion using hydrophobic polyoxometalate‐based ionic liquids (POM‐ILs). Copper metal disks were coated with room‐temperature POM‐ILs composed of transition‐metal functionalized Keggin anions [SiW11O39TM(H2O)]n? (TM=CuII, FeIII) and quaternary alkylammonium cations (CnH2 n+1)4N+ (n=7–8). The corrosion resistance against acetic acid vapors and simulated “acid rain” was significantly improved compared with commercial ionic liquids or solid polyoxometalate coatings. Mechanical damage to the POM‐IL coating is self‐repaired in less than one minute with full retention of the acid protection properties. The coating can easily be removed and recovered by rinsing with organic solvents.  相似文献

Considering the ionic nature of ionic liquids (ILs), ionic association is expected to be essential in solutions of ILs and to have an important influence on their applications. Although numerous studies have been reported for the ionic association behavior of ILs in solution, quantitative results are quite scarce. Herein, the conductivities of the ILs [Cnmim]Br (n=4, 6, 8, 10, 12), [C4mim][BF4], and [C4mim][PF6] in various molecular solvents (water, methanol, 1‐propanol, 1‐pentanol, acetonitrile, and acetone) are determined at 298.15 K as a function of IL concentration. The conductance data are analyzed by the Lee–Wheaton conductivity equation in terms of the ionic association constant (KA) and the limiting molar conductance (Λm0). Combined with the values for the Br? anion reported in the literature, the limiting molar conductivities and the transference numbers of the cations and [BF4]? and [PF6]? anions are calculated in the molecular solvents. It is shown that the alkyl chain length of the cations and type of anion affect the ionic association constants and limiting molar conductivities of the ILs. For a given anion (Br?), the Λm0 values decrease with increasing alkyl chain length of the cations in all the molecular solvents, whereas the KA values of the ILs decrease in organic solvents but increase in water as the alkyl chain length of the cations increases. For the [C4mim]+ cation, the limiting molar conductivities of the ILs decrease in the order Br?>[BF4]?>[PF6]?, and their ionic association constants follow the order [BF4]?>[PF6]?>Br? in water, acetone, and acetonitrile. Furthermore, and similar to the classical electrolytes, a linear relationship is observed between ln KA of the ILs and the reciprocal of the dielectric constants of the molecular solvents. The ILs are solvated to a different extent by the molecular solvents, and ionic association is affected significantly by ionic solvation. This information is expected to be useful for the modulation of the IL conductance by the alkyl chain length of the cations, type of anion, and physical properties of the molecular solvents.  相似文献

A facile synthetic route for the preparation of dicationic ethylene glycol based‐ionic liquids (ILs) via the azide/alkyne “click” reaction is presented. The copper(I) catalyzed, microwave‐assisted azide/alkyne “click” reaction between diazido‐ethylene glycols and the corresponding alkyne containing IL‐head group enables a simple preparation of different sets of poly(ethylene glycol)‐based ILs. Beside tetra‐ and hexa(ethylene glycol)‐based ILs, also oligomeric (Mn = 400 g/mol) and polymeric ILs (Mn up to 1550 g/mol) could be prepared in good yield and with full conversion of the ionic head group. The prepared ILs were extensively characterized via NMR spectroscopy and ESI‐time‐of‐flight (TOF) mass spectroscopy, revealing the formation of multiply charged ions in the negative mode. Thermal stability proved to be exceptionally high (up to 300 °C) together with low glass‐transition temperatures. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

This work shows how the nanostructuration of ionic liquids (ILs) governs the glass and melting transitions of the bistriflimide imidazolium‐based [CnC1im][NTf2] and [CnCnim][NTf2] series, which highlights the trend shift that occurs at the critical alkyl size (CAS) of n=6. An initial increase in the glass temperature (Tg) with an increase in the alkyl side chain was observed due to the intensification of the dispersive interactions (van der Waals). Above the CAS, the ?CH2? increment has the same effect in both glass and liquid states, which leads to a plateau in the glass transition after nanostructuration. The melting temperature (Tm) of the [CnC1im][NTf2] and [CnCnim][NTf2] series presents a V‐shaped profile. For the short‐alkyl ILs, the ?CH2? increment affects the electrostatic ion pair interactions, which leads to an increase in the conformational entropy. The ?CH2? increment disturbs the packing ability of the ILs and leads to a higher entropy value ( ) and consequently a decrease in Tm. Above the CAS, the ?CH2? contribution to the melting temperature becomes more regular, as a consequence of the nanostructuration of the IL into polar and nonpolar domains. The dependence of the alkyl chain on the temperature, enthalpy, and entropy of melting in the ILs above the CAS is very similar to the one observed for the alkane series, which highlights the importance of the nonpolar alkyl domains on the ILs thermal behavior.  相似文献

The solubilities of 1alkyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride, [Cnmim][Cl], where n=4, 8, 10, and 12, in 1octanol and water have been measured by a dynamic method in the temperature range from 270 to 370 K. The solubility data was used to calculate the 1octanol/water partition coefficients as a function of temperature and alkyl substituent. The melting point, enthalpies of fusion, and enthalpies of solid–solid phase transitions were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, DSC. The solubility of [Cnmim][Cl], where n=10 or 12 in 1octanol is comparable and higher than that of [C4mim][Cl] in 1octanol. Liquid 1n‐octyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride, [C8mim][Cl], is not miscible with 1octanol and water, consequently, the liquid–liquid equilibrium, LLE was measured in this system. The differences between the solubilities in water for n=4 and 12 are shown only in α1 and γ1 solid crystalline phases. Additionally, the immiscibility region was observed for the higher concentration of [C10mim][Cl] in water. The intermolecular solute–solvent interaction of 1butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride with water is higher than for other 1alkyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chlorides. The data was correlated by means of the UNIQUAC ASM and two modified NRTL equations utilizing parameters derived from the solid–liquid equilibrium, SLE. The root‐mean‐square deviations of the solubility temperatures for all calculated data are from 1.8 to 7 K and depend on the particular equation used. In the calculations, the existence of two solid–solid first‐order phase transitions in [C12mim][Cl] has also been taken into consideration. Experimental partition coefficients (log P) are negative at three temperatures; this is evidence for the possible use of these ionic liquids as green solvents.  相似文献

We investigate eight 1‐alkylpyridinium‐based ionic liquids of the form [CnPy][A] by using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electronic environment of each element of the ionic liquids is analyzed. In particular, a reliable fitting model is developed for the C 1s region that applies to each of the ionic liquids. This model allows the accurate charge correction of binding energies and the determination of reliable and reproducible binding energies for each ionic liquid. Shake‐up/off phenomena are determinedfor both C 1s and N 1s spectra. The electronic interaction between cations and anions is investigated for both simple ionic liquids and an example of an ionic‐liquid mixture; the effect of the anion on the electronic environment of the cation is also explored. Throughout the study, a detailed comparison is made between [C8Py][A] and analogues including 1‐octyl‐1‐methylpyrrolidinium‐ ([C8C1Pyrr][A]), and 1‐octyl‐3‐methylimidazolium‐ ([C8C1Im][A]) based samples, where X is common to all ionic liquids.  相似文献

1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy is employed to investigate the interaction of water with two imidazolium‐based ionic liquids (ILs), 1‐hexyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bromide ([C6mim]Br) and 1‐octyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bromide ([C8mim]Br), at IL concentrations well above the critical aggregation concentration (CAC). The results are compared with those of the neat samples. To this aim, a detailed analysis of the changes in the 1H chemical shifts, 13C relaxation parameters, and 2D ROESY data due to the presence of water is performed. The results for both neat ILs are consistent with a packed structure where head‐to‐head, head‐to‐tail, and tail‐to‐tail contacts occur and where the site of maximal mobility restriction is at the polar head. At the lowest investigated water content, the presence of water influences mainly the environment around the IL polar head, slowing down the motional dynamics of the aromatic ring with respect to the alkyl chain. At higher water contents this difference diminishes, the motional freedom of the whole molecule increasing. The presence of ROESY cross‐peaks between protons in the polar and apolar IL regions, as well as between protons in non‐neighboring alkyl groups, at all investigated water contents suggests that the alkyl tails are not fully segregated in hydrophobic domains, as expected for micelle‐like structures.  相似文献

Unconventional ionic liquid crystals in which the liquid crystallinity is enabled by halogen‐bonded supramolecular anions [CnF2 n+1‐I⋅⋅⋅I⋅⋅⋅I‐CnF2 n+1] are reported. The material system is unique in many ways, demonstrating for the first time 1) ionic, halogen‐bonded liquid crystals, and 2) imidazolium‐based ionic liquid crystals in which the occurrence of liquid crystallinity is not driven by the alkyl chains of the cation.  相似文献

In recent years, great progress has been made in the dissolution of cellulose with ionic liquids (ILs). However, the mechanism of cellulose dissolution, especially the role the IL cation played in the dissolution process, has not been clearly understood. Herein, the mixtures of cellulose with a series of imidazolium‐based chloride ionic liquids and 1‐butyl‐3‐methyl pyridinium chloride ([C4mpy]Cl) were simulated to study the effect that varying the heterocyclic structure and alkyl chain length of the IL cation has on the dissolution of cellulose. It was shown that the dissolution of cellulose in [C4mpy]Cl is better than that in [C4mim]Cl. For imidazolium‐based ILs, the shorter the alkyl chain is, the higher the solubility will be. In addition, an all‐atom force field for 1‐allyl‐3‐methyl imidazolium cation ([Amim]+) was developed, for the first time, to investigate the effect the electron‐withdrawing group within the alkyl chain of the IL cation has on the dissolution of cellulose. It was found that the interaction energy between [Amim]+ and cellulose was greater than that between [C3mim]+ and cellulose, indicating that the presence of electron‐withdrawing group in alkyl chain of the cation enhanced the interaction between the cation and cellulose due to the increase of electronegativity of the cations. These findings are used to assess the cationic effect on the dissolution of cellulose in ILs. They are also expected to be important for rational design of novel ILs for efficient dissolution of cellulose.  相似文献

The ionic conductivity of the solutions formed from 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim][BF4]) or 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([Bmim][PF6]) and different molecular solvents (MSs) were measured at 298.15 K. The molar conductivity of the ionic liquids (ILs) increased dramatically with increasing concentration of the MSs. It was found that the molar conductivity of the IL in the solutions studied in this work could be well correlated by the molar conductivity of the neat ILs and the dielectric constant and molar volume of the MSs.  相似文献

A novel 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid surface imprinted solid‐phase sorbent was synthesized. The as‐prepared material was characterized by SEM, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis and Fourier Transform IR measurements. Then its adsorption properties for alkyl imidazolium ionic liquids, including adsorption capacities, adsorption kinetics, and properties of selective separation and enrichment were studied in detail. It was shown that the ionic liquid surface imprinted polymer exhibited high selective recognition characteristics for the imidazolium chloride ionic liquids with short alkyl chains (CnmimCl, n = 2, 4, 6, 8) and the adsorption equilibrium was achieved within 25 min. Various parameters were optimized for the 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid surface imprinted polymer SPE column, such as flow rate, eluent solvent, selectivity, and reusability of the column. Then, the SPE column coupled with HPLC was used for the determination of alkyl imidazolium ionic liquids. Experimental results showed that the existence of their structural analogs and common concomitants in environmental matrices did not affect the enrichment of 1‐butyl‐3‐methyl imidazolium chloride ionic liquid. The average recoveries of 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid in spiked water samples were in the range of 92.0–102.0% with the RSD lower than 5.8%.  相似文献

Herein, we introduce a facile, user‐ and environmentally friendly (n‐octanol‐induced) oleic acid (OA)/ionic liquid (IL) two‐phase system for the phase‐ and size‐controllable synthesis of water‐soluble hexagonal rare earth (RE=La, Gd, and Y) fluoride nanocrystals with uniform morphologies (mainly spheres and elongated particles) and small sizes (<50 nm). The unique role of the IL 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BmimPF6) and n‐octanol in modulating the phase structure and particle size are discussed in detail. More importantly, the mechanism of the (n‐octanol‐induced) OA/IL two‐phase system, the formation of the RE fluoride nanocrystals, and the distinctive size‐ and morphology‐controlling capacity of the system are presented. BmimPF6 is versatile in term of crystal‐phase manipulation, size and shape maintenance, and providing water solubility in a one‐step reaction. The luminescent properties of Er3+‐, Ho3+‐, and Tm3+‐doped LaF3, NaGdF4, and NaYF4 nanocrystals were also studied. It is worth noting that the as‐prepared products can be directly dispersed in water due to the hydrophilic property of Bmim+ (cationic part of the IL) as a capping agent. This advantageous feature has made the IL‐capped products favorable in facile surface modifications, such as the classic Stober method. Finally, the cytotoxicity evaluation of NaYF4:Yb,Er nanocrystals before and after silica coating was conducted for further biological applications.  相似文献

The piano‐stool half‐metallocenium cations [Fe(C5R5)(CO)2 L ]+ (C5R5=C5H5, C5Me5, C5Me4Et; L =1‐pentene, nBuCN, MeCN, Me2S, NH3, NMe3, pyridine) provide ionic liquids (ILs) with the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (Tf2N) anion without introducing long alkyl chains. Their melting points are affected by molecular symmetry, and their thermal stabilities reflect the strength of the metal–ligand bonding. These are reactive liquids that show solventless ligand exchange reactions by gas absorption. The direction of the ligand‐exchange reaction is correlated with the stabilities. Based on the variation of the melting points, these ILs undergo transformations between the liquid and solid phases associated with the reaction.  相似文献
