Topological polymers possess many advantages over linear polymers. However, when it comes to the poly(monothiocarbonate)s, no topological polymers have been reported. Described herein is a facile and efficient approach for synthesizing well-defined branched poly(monothiocarbonate)s in a “grafting through” manner by copolymerizing carbonyl sulfide (COS) with epichlorohydrin (ECH), where the side-chain forms in situ. The lengths of the side-chains are tunable based on reaction temperatures. More importantly, enhancement in thermal properties of the branched copolymer was observed, as the Tg value increased by 22 °C, compared to the linear analogues. When chiral ECH was utilized, semicrystalline branched poly(monothiocarbonate)s were accessible with a Tm value of 112 °C, which is 40 °C higher than that of the corresponding linear poly(monothiocarbonate)s. The strategy presented herein for synthesizing branched polymers provides efficient and concise access to topological polymers.  相似文献

Branched and star‐branched polymers were successfully synthesized by the combination of two successive controlled radical polymerization methods. A series of linear and star poly(n‐butyl acrylate)‐co‐poly(2‐(2‐bromoisobutyryloxy) ethyl acrylate) statistical copolymers, P(nBA‐co‐BIEA)x, were first synthesized by nitroxide‐mediated polymerization (NMP at T > 100 °C). The subsequent polymerization of n‐butyl acrylate by single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP at T = 25 °C), initiated from the brominated sites of the P(nBA‐co‐BIEA)x copolymer, produced branched or star‐branched poly(n‐butyl acrylate) (PnBA). Both types of polymerizations (NMP and SET‐LRP) exhibited features of a controlled polymerization with linear evolutions of logarithmic conversion versus time and number‐average molar masses versus conversion for final Mn superior to 80,000 g mol?1. The branched and star‐branched architectures with high molar mass and low number of branches were fully characterized by size exclusion chromatography. The Mark–Houwink Sakurada relationship and the analysis of the contraction factor (g′ = ([η]branched/[η]linear)M) confirmed the elaboration of complex PnBA. The zero‐shear viscosities of the linear, star‐shaped, branched, and star‐branched polymers were compared. The modeling of the rheological properties confirmed the synthesis of the branched architectures. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Poly(2‐propyl‐oxazoline)s can be prepared by living cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐oxazolines and represent an emerging class of biocompatible polymers exhibiting a lower critical solution temperature in aqueous solution close to body temperature. However, their usability is limited by the irreversibility of the transition due to isothermal crystallization in case of poly(2‐isopropyl‐2‐oxazoline) and the rather low glass transition temperatures (Tg < 45 °C) of poly(2‐n‐propyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐based polymers. The copolymerization of 2‐cyclopropyl‐2‐oxazoline and 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline presented herein yields gradient copolymers whose cloud point temperatures can be accurately tuned over a broad temperature range by simple variation of the composition. Surprisingly, all copolymers reveal lower Tgs than the corresponding homopolymers ascribed to suppression of interchain interactions. However, it is noteworthy that the copolymers still have Tgs > 45 °C, enabling convenient storage in the fridge for future biomedical formulations. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Cationic polymerization of tetrahydrofuran (THF) and epichlorohydrin (ECH) was performed with peroxy initiators synthesized from bis (4,4′‐bromomethyl benzoyl peroxide (BBP) or bromomethyl benzoyl t‐butyl peroxy ester (t‐BuBP) and AgSbF6 or ZnCl2 system at 0 °C to obtain the poly(THF‐b‐ECH) macromonomeric peroxy initiators. Kinetic studies were accomplished for poly(THF‐b‐ECH) initiators. Poly(THF‐b‐ECH‐b‐MMA) and poly(THF‐b‐ECH‐b‐S) block copolymers were synthesized by bulk polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (S) with poly(THF‐b‐ECH) initiators. The quantum chemical calculations for the block copolymers, the initiating systems of the cationic polymerization of THF and ECH were achieved using HYPERCHEM 7.5 program. The optimized geometries of the polymers were investigated with the quantum chemical calculations. Poly(THF‐b‐ECH) initiators having peroxygen groups were used for graft copolymerization of polybutadien (PBd) to obtain poly(THF‐b‐ECH‐g‐PBd) crosslinked graft copolymers. The graft copolymers were investigated by sol‐gel analysis. Swelling ratio values of the graft copolymers in CHCl3 were calculated. The characterizations of the polymers were achieved by FTIR, 1H NMR, GPC, SEM, TEM, and DSC techniques. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 2896–2909, 2010  相似文献

Upon activation with diethylaluminium chloride (Et2AlCl), a series of phenyl‐substituted α‐diimine nickel precatalysts conducted 4‐methyl1pentene (4MP) and ethylene (E) (co)polymerizations via controlled chain‐walking to generate branched amorphous polymers with high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn < 1.6). The obtained poly(4MP)s were amorphous elastomers with glass transition temperature (Tg) of ?10 ~ ?24 °C, which are higher than that of E‐4MP copolymer ( ? 63.0 °C). At room temperature (25 °C), 4MP polymerization proceeds in a living manner. The microstructures of the produced poly(4MP)s indicated the 2,1 and 1,2insertion followed by chain‐walking, the latter being predominant. The NMR analyses of the polymers showed that the obtained poly(4MP) possessed methyl, isobutyl, 2,4dimethylpentyl and 2methylhexyl groups, while the isobutyl and 2,4dimethylalkyl branches derived from 4MP were observed in the E‐4MP copolymer. The branch structures and the insertiontype of monomer were depended on the polymerization temperature, and the content of methyl branch increased with an increase in the polymerization temperature.  相似文献

A series of comb polymers consisting of a methacrylate backbone and poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PEtOx) side chains was synthesized by a combination of cationic ring‐opening polymerization and reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Small‐angle neutron scattering (SANS) studies revealed a transition from an ellipsoidal to a cylindrical conformation in D2O around a backbone degree of polymerization of 30. Comb‐shaped PEtOx has lowered Tg values but a similar elution behavior in liquid chromatography under critical conditions in comparison to its linear analog was observed. The lower critical solution temperature behavior of the polymers was investigated by turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and SANS revealing decreasing Tcp in aqueous solution with increasing molar mass, the presence of very few aggregated structures below Tcp, a contraction of the macromolecules at temperatures 5 °C above Tcp but no severe conformational change of the cylindrical structure. In addition, the phase diagram including cloud point and coexistence curve was developed showing an LCST of 75 °C of the binary mixture poly[oligo(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline)methacrylate]/water. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Insertion of CO2 into the polyacrylate backbone, forming poly(carbonate) analogues, provides an environmentally friendly and biocompatible alternative. The synthesis of five poly(carbonate) analogues of poly(methyl acrylate), poly(ethyl acrylate), and poly(butyl acrylate) is described. The polymers are prepared using the salen cobalt(III) complex catalyzed copolymerization of CO2 and a derivatized oxirane. All the carbonate analogues possess higher glass‐transition temperatures (Tg=32 to ?5 °C) than alkyl acrylates (Tg=10 to ?50 °C), however, the carbonate analogues (Td≈230 °C) undergo thermal decomposition at lower temperatures than their acrylate counterparts (Td≈380 °C). The poly(alkyl carbonates) exhibit compositional‐dependent adhesivity. The poly(carbonate) analogues degrade into glycerol, alcohol, and CO2 in a time‐ and pH‐dependent manner with the rate of degradation accelerated at higher pH conditions, in contrast to poly(acrylate)s.  相似文献

Synthesis of chiral sulfur‐containing polymers was realized for the first time by the asymmetric alternating copolymerization of achiral meso‐epoxides with carbonyl sulfide (COS) using catalyst systems based on enantiopure binaphthol‐linked dinuclear CoIII complexes under mild reaction conditions. The resultant poly(monothiocarbonate)s have main‐chain chirality and more than 99 % isotacticity. Notably, the stereoregular copolymers are typical semicrystalline thermoplastics with high melting temperatures up to 232 °C. Additionally, these sulfur‐containing polymers have good optical properties with refractive indices of up to 1.56 and Abbe's numbers of up to 43.  相似文献

Hyperbranched poly(ether sulfone) was prepared in the presence of an oligomeric linear poly(ether sulfone) to generate multiblock hyperbranched‐linear (LxHB) copolymers. The LxHB copolymers were prepared in a two‐step, one‐pot synthesis by first polymerizing AB monomer to generate a linear block of a desired molecular weight followed by addition of the AB2 monomer in a large excess (19:1, AB2:AB) to generate the hyperbranched block. NMR integration analysis indicates that AB2:AB ratio is independent of the reaction time. Because the molecular weight still increases with reaction time, these results suggest that polymer growth continues after consumption of monomer by condensation into a multiblock architecture. The LxHB poly(ether sulfone)s have better thermal stability (10% mass loss > 343 vs. 317 °C) and lower Tg (200 vs. > 250 °C) than the hyperbranched homopolymer, higher Tg than the linear homopolymer (<154 °C), while little difference in the solubility character was observed between the two polymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New diene and dithiol monomers, based on aromatic imides such as benzophenone‐3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxylic diimide were synthesized and used in thiol‐ene polymerizations which yield poly(imide‐co‐thioether)s. These linear polymers exhibit limited solubility in various organic solvents. The molecular weights of the polymers were found to decrease with increasing imide content. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of these polymers is dependent on imide content, with Tg values ranging from ?55 °C (with no imide) up to 13 °C (with 70% imide). These thermal property improvements are due to the H‐bonding and rigidity of the aromatic imide moieties. Thermal degradation, as studied by thermogravimetric analysis, was not significantly different to the nonimide containing thiol‐ene polymers made using trimethyloylpropane diallyl ether and 3,5‐dioxa‐1,8‐dithiooctane. It is expected that such monomers may lead to increased glass transition temperatures in other thiol‐ene polymer systems as these normally exhibit low glass transition temperatures. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel poly(amine‐hydrazide)s were prepared from the polycondensation reactions of the dicarboxylic acid, 9‐[N,N‐di(4‐carboxyphenyl)amino]anthracene ( 1 ), with terephthalic dihydrazide ( TPH ) and isophthalic dihydrazide ( IPH ) via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction, respectively. The poly(amine‐hydrazide)s were readily soluble in many common organic solvents and could be solution cast into transparent films. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that these hydrazide polymers had glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 182–230 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300–400 °C. The resulting poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s had useful levels of thermal stability associated with high Tg (263–318 °C), 10% weight‐loss temperatures in excess of 500 °C, and char yield at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 55%. These organo‐soluble anthrylamine‐based poly(amine‐hydrazide)s and poly (amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited maximum UV‐vis absorption at 346–349 and 379–388 nm in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) solution, respectively. Their photoluminescence spectra in NMP solution showed maximum bands around 490–497 nm in the green region. The poly(amine‐hydrazide) I ‐ IPH showed a green photoluminescence at 490 nm with PL quantum yield of 29.9% and 17.0% in NMP solution and film state, respectively. The anthrylamine‐based poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s revealed a electrochromic characteristics with changing color from the pale yellow neutral form to the red reduced form when scanning potentials negatively from 0.00 to ?2.20 V. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel fully renewable AA‐BB type non‐isocyanate polyhydroxyurethanes were synthesized by the classical reaction between a diamine and a dicyclocarbonate. Sebacic acid was first reacted with an excess of glycerol carbonate, in presence of DCC and DMPA, leading to a renewable dicyclocarbonate monomer. Then, this monomer was reacted with several renewable diamines, in presence of 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD), as organocatalyst, to afford linear and branched polymers. The obtained materials exhibited Tg values varied from ?27 to ?8 °C, Tm values varying from 100 to 165 °C, and thermal stabilities above 200 °C. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A series of poly(amide–imide)s IIIa–m containing flexible isopropylidene and ether groups in the backbone were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of 4,4′‐[1,4‐phenylenebis(isopropylidene‐1,4‐phenyleneoxy)]dianiline (PIDA) with various bis(trimellitimide)s IIa–m in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. The resulting poly(amide–imide)s had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.80–1.36 dL/g. Except for those from the bis(trimellitimide)s of p‐phenylenediamine and benzidine, all the polymers could be cast from DMAc into transparent and tough films. They exhibited excellent solubility in polar solvents. The 10% weight loss temperatures of the polymers in air and in nitrogen were all above 495°C, and their Tg values were in the range of 201–252°C. Some properties of poly(amide–imide)s III were compared with those of the corresponding poly(amide–imide)s V prepared from the bis(trimellitimide) of diamine PIDA and various aromatic diamines. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two new bis(ether acyl chloride)s, 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenylethane and 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethane, were prepared from readily available reagents. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles with both ether and phenylethylidene or 1‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethylidene linkages between phenylene units were obtained by a conventional two‐step procedure including the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(ether acyl chloride)s with three bis(o‐aminophenol)s, yielding poly(o‐hydroxyamide) precursors, and subsequent thermal cyclodehydration. The intermediate poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s exhibited inherent viscosities of 0.39–0.98 dL/g. All of the poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s were amorphous and soluble in polar organic solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and most of them could afford flexible and tough films via solvent casting. The poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) of 129–194 °C and could be thermally converted into corresponding polybenzoxazoles in the solid state at temperatures higher than 300 °C. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous and showed an enhanced Tg but a dramatically decreased solubility with to respect to their poly(o‐hydroxyamide) precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 216–236 °C through differential scanning calorimetry and were stable up to 500 °C in nitrogen or air, with 10% weight‐loss temperatures being recorded between 538 and 562 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The combination of living/controlled cationic cyclopolymerization and crosslinking polymerization of bifunctional vinyl ethers (divinyl ethers) was applied to the synthesis of core‐crosslinked star‐shaped polymers with rigid cyclized arms. Cyclopolymerization of 4,4‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)cyclohexene ( 1 ), a divinyl ether with a cyclohexene group, was investigated with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride (HCl/ZnCl2) initiating system in toluene at 0 °C. The reaction proceeded quantitatively to give soluble poly( 1 )s in organic solvents. The content of the unreacted vinyl groups in the produced polymers was less than ~3 mol%, and therefore, the degree of cyclization of the polymers was determined to be ~97%. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and further increased on addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture, indicating that living cyclopolymerization of 1 occurred. The chain linking reactions among the formed living cyclopolymers with 1,4‐bis(vinyloxy)cyclohexane ( 3 ) as a crosslinker in toluene at 0 °C produced core‐crosslinked star‐shaped cyclopoly( 1 )s [star‐poly( 1 )s] in high yield (100%). Dihydroxylation of the cyclohexene double bonds of star‐poly( 1 ) gave hydrophilic water‐soluble star‐shaped polymers with rigid arm structure [star‐poly( 1 )‐OH] with thermo‐responsive function in water. Tgs of star‐poly( 1 ) and star‐poly( 1 )‐OH were 135 °C and 216 °C, respectively; these values are very high as vinyl ether‐based star‐shaped polymers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Cationic cyclopolymerizations of 2,2‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane ( 1 ), 5,5‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)‐2‐bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene ( 2 ), and 2,2‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)tricyclo[3.3.1.1]3, 7decane ( 3 ), divinyl ethers with a norbornane, norbornene, or adamantane unit, respectively, were investigated with the HCl/ZnCl2 initiating system in toluene and methylene chloride at ?30 °C. All the reactions proceeded quantitatively to give gel‐free, soluble polymers in organic solvents. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and further increased on addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture. The contents of the unreacted vinyl groups in the produced soluble polymers were less than ~10 mol %, and therefore, the degree of cyclization of the polymers was determined to be over ~90%. These facts show that cyclopolymerization of 1 , 2 , and 3 exclusively occurred and the poly(vinyl ether)s with the cyclized repeating units and polycyclic pendants were obtained with their molecular weights being regulated. BF3OEt2 initiator also caused cyclopolymerization of 1 , 2 , and 3 to give the corresponding high‐molecular‐weight cyclopolymers quantitatively. Glass transition temperatures (Tg's) of poly( 1 ) and poly( 2 ) were 165–180 °C, and Tg's of poly( 3 ) were 211–231 °C; these values are very high as vinyl ether polymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The oxidative coupling polymerization of o‐cresol was investigated using various 2‐substituted pyridine/CuCl catalysts under an oxygen atmosphere, in which 2‐phenylpyridine/CuCl and 2‐(p‐tolyl)pyridine/CuCl catalysts yielded poly(o‐cresol)s with higher regioselectivity for 1,4‐coupling. These polymerizations produced branched and crosslinked polymers in the later stages of polymerization. These polymers showed good thermal properties, such as 5% weight loss temperatures of up to 406 °C and glass transition temperatures of up to 151 °C. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Benzoxazine monomer (Ba) was blended with soluble poly(imide‐siloxane)s in various weight ratios. The soluble poly(imide‐siloxane)s with and without pendent phenolic groups were prepared from the reaction of 2,2′‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxylphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride with α,ω‐bis(aminopropyl)dimethylsiloxane oligomer (PDMS; molecular weight = 5000) and 3,3′‐dihydroxybenzidine (with OH group) or 4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl ether (without OH group). The onset and maximum of the exotherm due to the ring‐opening polymerization for the pristine Ba appeared on differential scanning calorimetry curves around 200 and 240 °C, respectively. In the presence of poly(imide‐siloxane)s, the exothermic temperatures were lowered: the onset to 130–140 °C and the maximum to 210–220 °C. The exotherm due to the benzoxazine polymerization disappeared after curing at 240 °C for 1 h. Viscoelastic measurements of the cured blends containing poly(imide‐siloxane) with OH functionality showed two glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's), at a low temperature around ?55 °C and at a high temperature around 250–300 °C, displaying phase separation between PDMS and the combined phase consisting of polyimide and polybenzoxazine (PBa) components due to the formation of AB‐crosslinked polymer. For the blends containing poly(imide‐siloxane) without OH functionalities, however, in addition to the Tg due to PDMS, two Tg's were observed in high‐temperature ranges, 230–260 and 300–350 °C, indicating further phase separation between the polyimide and PBa components due to the formation of semi‐interpenetrating networks. In both cases, Tg increased with increasing poly(imide‐siloxane) content. Tensile measurements showed that the toughness of PBa was enhanced by the addition of poly(imide‐siloxane). Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the thermal stability of PBa also was enhanced by the addition of poly(imide‐siloxane). © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The anionic ring‐opening polymerization of oxetanes containing hydroxyl groups was carried out with potassium tert‐butoxide as an initiator in the presence of 18‐crown‐6‐ether in N‐methylpyrrolidinone at 180 °C; it yielded corresponding multifunctional hyperbranched polymers: poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s, with number‐average molecular weights of 2200–4100 in 83–95% yields, and poly(3‐methyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s, with number‐average molecular weights of 4600–5200 in 70–95% yields. The synthesized poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s and poly(3‐methyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s were hyperbranched polyethers containing an oxetane moiety and many hydroxy groups at the ends. The postpolymerization of poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s was performed in the presence of potassium tert‐butoxide and 18‐crown‐6‐ether in N‐methylpyrrolidinone at 180 °C; it yielded corresponding polymers with higher molecular weights in good yields. The cationic polymerization of poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane) derivatives was carried out with boron trifluoride etherate as an initiator and was followed by alkaline hydrolysis; this yielded a new branched polymer, a poly(hyperbranched polyether), with many pendant hydroxy groups. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new amphiphilic diblock copolymer containing an ionomer segment, poly[(4‐vinylbenzyl triethyl ammonium bromide)‐co‐(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐bromomethylstyrene)]‐b‐polyisobutene [poly(4‐VBTEAB)‐b‐PIB], was synthesized by the chemical modification of poly(4‐methylstyrene)‐b‐polyisobutene [poly(4‐MSt)‐b‐PIB]. First, the 4‐methylstyrene moiety in poly(4‐MSt)‐b‐PIB was brominated with azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator at 60 °C in CCl4, and then the highly reactive benzyl bromide groups were ionized by a reaction with triethylamine in a toluene/isopropyl alcohol (80/20 v/v) mixture at about 85 °C to produce the ionomer diblock copolymer poly(4‐VBTEAB)‐b‐PIB. The solubility of the ionomer block copolymer was quite different from that of the corresponding poly[(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐bromomethylstyrene)]‐b‐polyisobutene {poly[(4‐MSt)‐co‐(4‐BrMSt)]‐b‐PIB}. Transmission electron microscopy observations demonstrated that all three diblock copolymers had microphase‐separation structures in which polyisobutene (PIB) domains existed in the continuous phase of the poly(4‐methylstyrene) segment or its derivative segment matrix. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis measurements showed that poly[(4‐MSt)‐co‐(4‐BrMSt)]‐b‐PIB had two glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's), ?56 °C for the PIB segment and 62 °C for the poly[(4‐MSt)‐co‐(4‐BrMSt)] domain, whereas poly(4‐VBTEAB)‐b‐PIB showed one Tg at ?8 °C of the PIB domain; Tg of the poly[(4‐vinylbenzyl triethyl ammonium bromide)‐co‐(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐bromomethylstyrene)] domain was not observable because of the strong ionic interactions resulting in a higher Tg and a retention of modulus up to 124 °C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
